AITFYMIBP Chapter 14

Truly fragrant scene

TL: Hua

After parting ways with the trainees, Lin Yanran was about to go back to the hotel the production team had arranged.

Just a few steps away, as he passed by Pei Luo’s group’s practice room, he heard the backing track still playing inside.

He stopped and quietly asked a staff member next to him, “Is their group still practicing?”

A young woman from the production team shook her head. “No, it’s just Qiao Ye.”

Hearing Qiao Ye’s name, Lin Yanran was a little surprised.

He had a strong impression of this person.

He was one of the contestants on the show with great skills and a very huge fan base. In the original novel’s plot, he was a strong competitor for Xuan Yihan’s C-position debut.

Logically, a contestant with this kind of skill would have already mastered the song and dance. It was unlikely that he would still be practicing alone so late…

Just as Lin Yanran was thinking this, he heard a harsh sound from inside, as if something had fallen.

He quickly pushed the door open and found Qiao Ye, drenched in sweat, sprawled on the floor in a mess.

The mentor’s stool was also lying tilted next to him.

Qiao Ye clearly hadn’t expected anyone to be there so late. When he saw that it was Lin Yanran, he was stunned for a long moment.

“Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?”

In the quiet of the night, Lin Yanran’s low voice, paired with his slightly tired but still handsome face, made him seem especially gentle.

Qiao Ye’s eyes moved slightly at the sight, and then he snapped back to reality.

He quickly stood up, shook his hair, which was soaked with sweat, and said flatly, “I’m fine.”

Seeing that the other person was not in high spirits, Lin Yanran decided not to say anything more. He just picked up a bottle of mineral water from the table and handed it to Qiao Ye.

“You look a little tired. Have some water.”

Qiao Ye glanced at Lin Yanran’s slender, fair hand and waited a few seconds before taking the water.

“Thank you.”

Lin Yanran gave him a small smile and then left.

Qiao Ye held the bottle tightly in his hand, standing motionless.

The image of that faint smile kept flashing in his mind. After a few minutes, he finally picked up his jacket and left the practice room.

Taking a sip of the mineral water that Lin Yanran had given him, Qiao Ye felt as if the frustration he had felt because Pei Luo had deliberately given the C-position and all the spotlight to Xuan Yihan had suddenly been soothed.

After leaving Pei Luo’s group’s practice room, Lin Yanran’s mind was still on the music Qiao Ye had been playing.

“Was their song rearranged? It sounded a bit different from before.”

The staff member confirmed, “Yes, Teacher Pei Luo had his team rearrange it today.”

Lin Yanran, who had been feeling tired from staying up late, suddenly perked up. “Are we allowed to rearrange the music for this round?”

The staff member nodded. “Of course.”

Lin Yanran suddenly felt like he wasn’t so tired anymore.

The next day at 8 a.m., Xia Xingxing was woken up by Ji Shuai from his group.

Just after he finished washing up, Gao Yu, who had brought back breakfast for the entire team, greeted him and invited him to eat.

Because of the matter regarding Lin Yanran, Xia Xingxing had defended his idol several times, and his relationship with Gao Yu had not been very pleasant.

He was truly surprised to see Gao Yu act like a completely different person that morning.

After everyone had their fill, they all tacitly went to the practice room and ran through the song that Lin Yanran had helped them perfect the night before.

With the foundation Lin Yanran had laid for them, their practice was very smooth.

After running through the song a few times, the trainees looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 9 a.m.

They remembered clearly that Lin Yanran had said he would be here at 8 a.m.

After waiting for a while without seeing his idol, Xia Xingxing couldn’t help but ask the staff member across from him, “Has Teacher Yanran not arrived yet?”

The staff member nodded. “Please continue practicing on your own for now. Teacher Yanran has a few things to attend to.”

Upon hearing this, Gao Yu was the first to speak up: “It’s okay, it’s okay. The teacher worked so hard practicing with us until 3 a.m. last night. He deserves a good rest.”

No one in the group was willing to blame Lin Yanran for being late.

After all, among all the mentors, he was the only one who had stayed up with them until late at night.

They weren’t blind or heartless; they were all very grateful.

However, everyone was surprised that Gao Yu, who had the most issues with Lin Yanran before, was the first to defend him and feared that others would blame him for being late.

If this had happened yesterday, the atmosphere would definitely not have been so harmonious.

After Gao Yu started, Lu Tianlang also stood up and clapped his hands. “Yes, brothers, the teacher has already helped us with the vocal part. Today, let’s put in some extra effort and tackle the dance.”

“Right, right! We can’t be a drag and hold the teacher back with the dance. Let’s all put in some extra effort today, brothers!”

Inside the practice room, no one was as dispirited as they were yesterday. Everyone had a positive attitude.

The group, which had been a disorganized mess, seemed to have suddenly become united after a night’s sleep.

Not only were they united, but they had also learned to help each other.

The dancers in the group no longer practiced on their own. After discussing it together, they broke down the entire song’s choreography and patiently began teaching it in small groups.

When Lin Yanran walked into the practice room with the new arrangement he had stayed up late creating, he was greeted by a scene of harmony and mutual help. The atmosphere in the practice room was exceptionally good.

He smiled and gently knocked on the practice room door three times.

Upon hearing the sound, the trainees happily turned and ran toward him.

Then, they all stood in front of him and bowed in unison, greeting him, “Hello, Teacher Yanran.”

Lin Yanran nodded at them, gathered everyone together, and opened his laptop.

“Our song is a little flat compared to the other groups’ and not as catchy. This morning, a staff member told me we could rearrange it ourselves, so I tried to do just that. Let’s all listen and see what you think.”

After speaking, Lin Yanran played the rearranged song for them.

To be able to handle an arrangement like this, Lin Yanran was incredibly grateful to his music professor grandmother.

She had taught him many vocal techniques and music theory concepts since he was a child, which allowed him to be so successful in this world.

A few minutes later, the music stopped.

The trainees listened to the brand-new track, and their admiration for Lin Yanran was now unstoppable.

“It’s incredible!”

“Teacher, you must be a god who came down to save us!”

“Is this still our ordinary Not Me??”

“The musical taste is absolutely amazing!”

Amidst the trainees’ showering of compliments, the on-site director couldn’t help but laugh.

She told the excited trainees, “Teacher Yanran barely slept last night; he was rearranging this song the whole time.”

She had been filming Lin Yanran the entire time he was awake, so she had seen everything he did for the trainees.

She couldn’t help but speak up, hoping that these boys would understand how much their mentor cared about them.

Clearly, everyone felt it.

Xia Xingxing felt both distressed and moved after hearing this.

He had noticed his idol’s dark circles this morning and had initially thought it was just from staying up late.

It turned out that he had stayed up to rearrange their song to make it stand out.

He couldn’t help but hug Lin Yanran, his eyes a little red. “Teacher, you’re too good to us…”

The other boys also couldn’t help but embrace Lin Yanran, repeatedly saying, “Thank you, teacher, for all your hard work.”

The beginning of everything is always the hardest, but once you get it right, everything that follows seems to become much smoother.

The trainees focused on practicing the dance all morning. By the time Lin Yanran arrived, they could pretty much dance along with the music.

However, because they hadn’t had enough time to practice, the overall effect and details of the group still had many issues.

Compared to singing and arranging, Lin Yanran was more professional when it came to dancing. He quickly found each person’s problems and used simple, easy-to-understand language to teach them how to improve.

But because everyone had different levels of basic skills and comprehension, some moves were not performed correctly by the trainees without a demonstration from a teacher.

Ji Shuai had a move where he had to pull off a silk ribbon covering his eyes and immediately transition into the choreography.

As the main dancer of the group, he had tried it many times but still couldn’t get it right.

Lin Yanran explained it to him a few more times, but his transition was still not smooth enough.

He either forgot the next move, or his facial expression fell apart.

Seeing that Ji Shuai was truly struggling, Lin Yanran stood up directly in front of him to demonstrate.

“You need to remember what you are trying to express.”

With that, Lin Yanran tied a black ribbon over his own eyes.

“You are a dignified and arrogant young nobleman. After you remove the ribbon, pay attention to your facial expression. Look down and to the left, and keep your hand up the whole time.”

“After you pull the ribbon off, don’t just throw it; let it float gently from your hand, then immediately go into the dance.”

With that, Lin Yanran pulled off the black ribbon covering his eyes.

The corners of his lips curved into a small smile. After a brief glance forward, his eyes shifted slightly, and he looked down and to the left.

His gaze was disdainful, elegant, and arrogant, like a beautiful and proud white swan.

The moment the black ribbon slid from his hand, Lin Yanran immediately performed a beautiful and clean set of dance moves.

Ji Shuai was completely stunned.

The moves that he had been unable to do, the mentor performed them with such ease…

And the execution of the moves and details was incredibly clean and perfect.

To be able to do this with such ease, a normal person would need years of solid dance experience to reach his level.

Ji Shuai was frozen in place.

And the other trainees who had been practicing in their own corners, upon seeing this scene, were just as bewildered as he was.

Many of them rubbed their eyes.

Just now…

They had seen the mentor dance, right?

Who had given them the wrong impression that their mentor was useless at both singing and dancing and was just a beautiful airhead?

He could sing, dance, and arrange music—he was an all-around perfect mentor!

After watching Lin Yanran dance, the trainees swarmed him, their eyes sparkling. They all asked for his help with their dance problems.

Lin Yanran patiently taught them one by one.

He hadn’t demonstrated earlier because he had been up all night and hadn’t eaten anything, so he had no energy.

Now, after teaching for a while, he felt much more awake. After getting a little food in his stomach, he simply started dancing with the trainees.

He stood at the front of everyone, teaching the choreography over and over again.

Every dance move was precise and beautiful. He seemed to be glowing, exuding charm with every gesture.

Everyone’s eyes were fixed on him.

The team looked brand new, and the trainees rejoiced as they danced.

When they had first found out they were assigned to Yanran’s group, they thought they were the cannon fodder group that the directors had given up on.

Only now did they realize.

That fate was actually on their side, and they were lucky enough to meet such a good mentor.

This dance session also went on until the early morning.

Every trainee was exhausted, but they were all exceptionally excited.

After hugging and cheering each other on, they reluctantly returned to their dorms.

The first thing Xia Xingxing did when he returned was soak his feet.

In the past, his roommates would come back and just collapse on their beds from exhaustion.

Today, they were too happy to sleep. Seeing how much Xia Xingxing was enjoying his foot soak, they proactively pulled out the foot basins they had left in a corner to use themselves.

While putting the Chinese medicine bag in, Jin Letian asked Xia Xingxing doubtfully, “Is it really that effective?”

Xia Xingxing nodded with a look of satisfaction. “Of course! I get such a good night’s sleep every time I do this.”

Hearing this, the guys who were already tempted didn’t hesitate and immediately put their feet in.

Half an hour later…

Jin Letian: “Soaking my feet feels so good!”

Gao Yu: “Taking care of my health is amazing!”
