Mu Yanxi had deliberately lifted Yi Wulan’s coat, picking a spot where the clothing was thin to bite down.
She didn’t hold back, and the sudden action made Yi Wulan suck in a sharp breath of cold air.
Hearing the sound, Mu Yanxi immediately lessened the force of her bite. But she didn’t let go, continuing to grind her teeth against Yi Wulan’s shoulder in a retaliatory manner.
A dark, wet patch quickly formed on Yi Wulan’s royal blue chiffon blouse.
Feeling the dampness on her shoulder, Yi Wulan shifted. This movement finally made Mu Yanxi stop. Feeling a little embarrassed, she released Yi Wulan, her gaze filled with a bit of bewilderment.
A blush spread from the tips of her ears all the way to her collarbone. Her beautiful, fox-like eyes still held the lingering effects of the earlier stimulation, misty with moisture.
In particular, her thin, water-stained lips were trembling imperceptibly, their initial paleness now restored to a tender, rosy pink.
With a guilty conscience, Mu Yanxi even straightened Yi Wulan’s trench coat, trying to hide the evidence she had created. After doing this, she seemed to feel it was a bit too deliberate and could only stare at Yi Wulan expectantly.
Yi Wulan had originally wanted to scold her about getting the clothes dirty, but the words caught in her throat. She sighed, “You…”
“Thirsty.” Fearing Yi Wulan would say something that would make her want to crawl into a hole, Mu Yanxi spoke first. “I’m thirsty.”
Yi Wulan gave her own shoulder a meaningful look, then got up to pour Mu Yanxi a glass of water.
In truth, Mu Yanxi was extremely thirsty. She had only eaten two shrimp dumplings since waking up and hadn’t had a single sip of water. Having just expended some moisture, her lips were now incredibly dry.
When Yi Wulan handed her the water, Mu Yanxi instinctively reached out with her right hand to take the glass. But just as the glass touched her palm, her hand felt as if it were soft and boneless. Her weak wrist trembled violently, and the glass instantly slipped from her grasp.
The smooth glass crashed to the floor, splashing water everywhere and making a loud noise.
Mu Yanxi: …
Yi Wulan, who had just turned to pour herself some water, paused. She turned back to meet Mu Yanxi’s gaze, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
Only then did Mu Yanxi notice that Yi Wulan’s usually impeccable trench coat, which rarely had a wrinkle, now bore several obvious, deep creases.
As if in response, the culprit’s fingertips couldn’t help but tremble again.
She gave a dry cough, pulled her hand—which hadn’t yet recovered from being clenched too tightly in a state of high tension—back under the covers, and said with forced composure, “Could you pour me another glass of water?”
Yi Wulan did as she was told, but when she brought the water over again, she didn’t let Mu Yanxi take it herself. Instead, she brought the rim of the glass directly to Mu Yanxi’s lips.
“I, I’ll get it myself,” Mu Yanxi said, hurriedly reaching for it.
Unexpectedly, Yi Wulan moved her hand away, avoiding her grasp, and then brought the glass to her lips again. “You were on an IV drip all night. Your hand must be affected. Let me feed you.”
Mu Yanxi thought about it and felt it made sense. In a daze, she drank from the glass Yi Wulan held. As she drank, she thought that, for once, Yi Wulan’s words were actually pleasant to hear.
But she had completely forgotten that the IV had been in her left hand, while she had just tried to take the glass with her right.
With her head lowered to drink, her field of vision was limited, so she naturally didn’t notice the fleeting smile on Yi Wulan’s lips.
A glass of lukewarm water settled in her stomach, dispelling much of her internal heat. Mu Yanxi finally, belatedly, realized something rather important. “When did you get here last night?”
Yi Wulan placed the glass on the bedside table, then took a broom to clean up the glass shards on the floor. “It was already past midnight when I arrived.”
“Then, then…” Mu Yanxi’s eyes darted around. “Did my manager and the others see you?”
Yi Wulan’s appearance at the press conference for Shuilin Fang had attracted a lot of attention. Her manager and assistant, who were practically permanent residents of Weibo, would definitely recognize Yi Wulan.
“I suppose you could say that?”
Mu Yanxi was confused. “What do you mean, ‘you could say that’?”
Yi Wulan explained, “Coincidentally, the family doctor who treated you before has a project here. Your manager and the others didn’t dare send you to a random hospital. After hearing Chen Xu mention it, they brought you to this private hospital. By the time I arrived, your manager had already left.”
Mu Yanxi: …
It seemed her manager and assistant weren’t just not very bright, but their luck wasn’t great either.
Speak of the devil. Mu Yanxi’s WeChat rang with a video call from her manager.
Yi Wulan finished sweeping up the glass shards and took them out.
Mu Yanxi answered the video call. Her manager on the other end scrutinized her carefully for a few moments before smiling. “Looks like having someone with you has helped you recover quite well. You scared me to death last night.”
Mu Yanxi couldn’t be bothered to discuss her unusual illness and just asked probingly, “You just left me here all alone last night? Weren’t you afraid I’d be kidnapped and sold?”
The manager gave her an exaggerated look and began to ramble:
“I’m telling you, even though your lover doesn’t usually treat you that well, the hospital and room she found for you are no joke. I was going to pay the bill for you, but when I asked, the room fee alone is five figures a day. I figured I shouldn’t compete with your lover for that.”
“Anyway, before your lover arrived, the hospital was definitely treating you like a god of wealth. Besides, with that bodyguard of yours who looks at everyone like they owe him a house, who would dare bully you.”
Relying on what Yi Wulan had said about not meeting her manager, Mu Yanxi righteously accused, “So you could just abandon me?”
“Last night, Xiao Qi was bullied on set, so I had to fly over immediately.” The manager paused, then added with a desperate desire to save herself, “But I waited until your lover arrived before I left. I saw her enter the hospital.”
Mu Yanxi knew her manager had recently signed two new talents and was swamped. She didn’t really mind, since she wasn’t short on money herself and couldn’t let her management team starve.
Besides, whether it was because Yi Wulan needed her special abilities or because she never intended to become a hard-working drone on a 996 schedule, Mu Yanxi wholeheartedly approved of her manager shifting focus to other artists.
However, Mu Yanxi’s silence wasn’t because of the two new talents, but because of the manager’s line, ‘waited until your lover arrived before I left.’
That seemed… a little different from what Yi Wulan had said?
Mu Yanxi suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
Before Mu Yanxi could figure out what to say, her manager assumed she was bothered by the new talent and tentatively asked in a low voice, “Teacher Mu, you were the one who helped me pick that Xiao Qi. She really likes you. She just asked if she could come see you.”
Mu Yanxi snapped back to reality and deliberately made things difficult. “Oh? Am I someone just anyone can see whenever they want?”
The manager was stunned for a moment. “Then, then I’ll tell her to stay away from you.”
After all, she had managed Mu Yanxi for over two years; their bond was naturally different.
Who knew that in the next second, Mu Yanxi would burst out laughing. “When I get back to Yuncheng, I’ll meet her if there’s a chance.”
“Great! Then I’ll have to trouble Teacher Mu to teach her a thing or two.” The manager was very accommodating, saying exactly what Mu Yanxi liked to hear. “After all, Teacher Mu’s beauty outshines the entire entertainment industry. You could have a box office hit just by acting casually, but filming movies is too hard. I could never bear to let Teacher Mu suffer like that.”
Afterwards, the manager asked a few more questions about Mu Yanxi’s recovery. After all, there was still a good portion of the third episode of 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 left to film, and the production team couldn’t give Mu Yanxi too much time.
Mu Yanxi replied, “My fever’s gone. I can film tonight.”
“Let’s make it tomorrow. I’ll fly back to Fengcheng tomorrow to be with you.” After discussing business, the manager looked at Mu Yanxi, hesitated for a few seconds, and seemed to want to say something but held back.
Seeing her expression, Mu Yanxi knew what the manager wanted to ask. Since there was no escaping it, she resignedly brought it up herself. “You saw her yesterday?”
The manager’s face was filled with the excited expression of ‘You brought this up yourself, not me.’ “Yeah, I saw her enter the building from upstairs last night. It’s just bad luck we didn’t run into each other.”
Mu Yanxi blinked, her previously tense body relaxing. She adjusted her position. Recalling the height from which she had looked out of the small living room earlier, she could understand how her manager wouldn’t have been able to see Yi Wulan’s face clearly in the dark of night.
“Based on my years of experience judging people, just from her clothes and the way she walks, she seems pretty good.” The manager seemed to have a new idea, her tone pleading:
“Seriously, can’t your lover cooperate with us for some publicity? I only got one glance from a dozen floors up, and I just feel she’s perfect for it. It would be great for a married artist like you to market your loving relationship. Then, even if Jiang Tong wanted to suppress your popularity, he wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice his single persona, right?”
“No,” Mu Yanxi rejected it outright. “She, she…”
Yi Wulan’s last two public appearances were, one, for the ten-billion-yuan Shuilin Fang and the future holographic project worth hundreds of billions, and two, a year ago when she spoke at the Asia-Pacific Summit as an outstanding representative.
Cooperate with her for publicity?
Never mind whether Yi Wulan would agree, Mu Yanxi herself would be the first to refuse.
After all, in Mu Yanxi’s heart, she subconsciously considered Yi Wulan her possession. She couldn’t bear to let Yi Wulan waste time playing house with her in the entertainment industry; it would be too demeaning.
But the words changed as they reached her lips. “Aiya, didn’t I tell you last time? There’s a wall between us. It’s not appropriate for us to appear together.”
The manager recalled their previous conversation and agreed. “You have a point. Although your lover seems to have a good aura, her old age would definitely give those anti-fans something to make a big deal about.”
Mu Yanxi’s expression didn’t change. “Yes…”
But she had only said one word before she quickly changed her tune. “I have to go, the doctor’s here.”
Then, without another word, she hung up the video call with a click.
Then, she timidly looked towards the doorway, where Yi Wulan stood with a report in her hand, having been there for who knows how long.
Mu Yanxi’s mind went blank. She tried to calm herself down, consoling herself that Yi Wulan probably hadn’t heard what her manager just said.
However, in the next second, Yi Wulan walked in. Her eyes were cold, and her tone held a hint of uncertainty. “Old age?”
Mu Yanxi: …
Mu Yanxi’s mind was a mess, completely unable to function. She could only stare blankly at Yi Wulan, unable to muster a shred of resistance.
Yi Wulan asked again, her voice now tinged with coldness, “Is this how you introduce me to others?”
Mu Yanxi choked. “Uh…”
She blinked her eyes, forcing herself to well up, and actually managed to squeeze out a layer of mist.
Then she logically played the victim. “My manager isn’t very bright. She’s managed me for two years and still hasn’t figured out my family background. Please don’t hold it against her.”
Yi Wulan looked at her searchingly. “But from what I just heard of your conversation, she wasn’t just spouting nonsense.”
Mu Yanxi sighed. Playing the victim wasn’t working, so she could only…
Mu Yanxi decided to throw face to the wind, putting on a deeply affectionate expression as she looked at Yi Wulan. “I have longed for you for so long, my lovesickness has made me ill.”
Yi Wulan: …
Yi Wulan had no idea what Mu Yanxi was trying to explain.
Based on past experience, it was highly likely that Mu Yanxi was just using this line to fob her off.
She frowned, glanced at Mu Yanxi, and was about to say something, but she pressed her lips together and turned to sit on the sofa instead.
Seeing this, Mu Yanxi bit her lip and decided to follow. “Hey, you haven’t answered me yet.”
When Yi Wulan saw her approach, she just sized her up for a moment before getting up to close the nearby window.
It was already the end of October. The summer heat had completely dissipated, and the wind carried a biting chill.
Mu Yanxi sat on the sofa next to Yi Wulan. They were silent for a moment, and Mu Yanxi had already thrown all the shame from what she’d just said to the back of her mind.
Seeing Yi Wulan’s embarrassment, she grew bolder, kicking Yi Wulan’s calf and demanding an answer. “Yi Wulan, say something. Did you not understand?”
Yi Wulan frowned. “Does what you just said have anything to do with your manager?”
Here it comes.
The fish has taken the bait.
Mu Yanxi suppressed her excitement, blinked her moist eyelashes, and gently explained to Yi Wulan, “I have longed for you for so long, my lovesickness has made me ill. So long that my manager thinks you’re very old. So you really can’t blame me for this.”
Yi Wulan: …
Just when Mu Yanxi thought she had Yi Wulan wrapped around her finger, Yi Wulan suddenly looked up and asked, “Didn’t you say that to you, I was like an unreachable deity in the heavens, and that you were deeply in love with me, longing for me for many years?”
Her tone was cold, completely devoid of the tender ambiguity of the words, and it even sounded a bit chilly to Mu Yanxi’s ears.
Mu Yanxi grabbed a throw pillow and hugged it. After a long pause, she haltingly fabricated a line, “Doesn’t that just prove that we’ve been in love for a long time and are a match made in heaven?”
After saying this, she didn’t dare look at Yi Wulan’s reaction and buried her entire face in the pillow out of shame.
Yi Wulan looked at Mu Yanxi, who was acting like an ostrich, her gaze lingering on the tip of her exposed ear, which was as red as a drop of blood.
Mu Yanxi was the one who had spouted all the flirtatious nonsense, yet she was also the one who ended up too shy to show her face.
Yi Wulan shook her head and chuckled softly, noncommittal about the little ancestor’s temper tantrum.
Afterwards, Yi Wulan handled some documents on the side, while Mu Yanxi opened her phone and scrolled through Weibo as usual.
Last night’s live broadcast of 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 had ended abruptly. To say it ended was an understatement; it was forcibly stopped because the show couldn’t go on.
But fortunately, this was the third episode of the variety show, and the audience was used to the inhumane production team always cutting off at a critical moment. So, at most, they would just rant online about sending the crew razor blades.
However, as 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 went from an obscure variety show to a minor hit in just three short episodes, the increased attention also brought dissenting voices.
During last night’s recording, Jiang Tong’s unexpectedly brilliant leadership of his team sparked a lot of discussion online. At first, things went smoothly. With fans and paid commenters guiding the rhythm, the hashtag #JiangTong,SecretRoomKiller# trended high on Weibo, and the topic page was filled with praise.
Jiang Tong’s management team had always prioritized popularity over money. Seeing a rare opportunity for Jiang Tong to steal the spotlight from the other guests, they kept his topic trending into the next day.
Jiang Tong had never understood the principle that things reverse when they reach an extreme. By the next morning, several marketing accounts began to subtly insinuate that the variety show 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 had a script.
【Gossip Patriarch: Is a certain escape room variety show treating its audience like idiots? People are actually praising such obvious script-reading. The money in the entertainment industry is really easy to make.】
Gossip Patriarch was a marketing account that had long been known for speaking boldly and going against trending celebrities. What he said was a mix of truth and lies, but he had attracted a large following.
After his Weibo post, the comment section was flooded with people who agreed:
【Variety shows have memories. There are still records of Jiang Tong pretending to be something he’s not in the first two episodes. Even if the production team wants to promote someone, can they at least pick a different persona?】
【Even if I used my feet to think, I wouldn’t connect Jiang Tong with ‘secret room killer.’ How desperate for money is the production team?】
【I’ve been wanting to say this for a while. If you can’t handle escape room games, don’t play. The whole point is the thrill. Last night’s episode was unwatchable, okay?】
【Who is this Jiang Tong anyway? He’s trending every other day. Can someone who looks like that have a backer?】
【Blocking 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》. I don’t want to waste my precious time watching a pre-written script and seeing the production team play dumb while promoting someone. Yuck.】
【Goodbye, 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》. Goodbye, Jiang Tong. Goodbye forever.】
Jiang Tong’s team had been monitoring the online trends. Seeing the growing suspicion that 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 was scripted and that Jiang Tong was being boycotted along with it, they quickly bought a trending topic for Mu Yanxi to divert the netizens’ attention.
Thus, when Mu Yanxi opened Weibo, she saw her own hashtag trending at number fifteen: #MuYanxi,NotAfraidOfGhosts#.
Clicking on the topic, she saw a compilation of her encounters with the NPCs from previous episodes, with a special highlight on the complete clip of her easily obtaining the evil-warding jade this time. The level of discussion and the position on the trending list made it obvious that someone had deliberately paid for it.
Mu Yanxi sneered. She didn’t know whether to call Jiang Tong stupid or foolish. At a time like this, posting something like ‘My teammate isn’t afraid of ghosts, she’s the one with the script’ was basically confirming that the production team really did have a script, wasn’t it?
Would the production team really take the fall for a rich kid like him and ruin their future recordings?
Mu Yanxi took a deep breath and clicked on her hashtag. Sure enough, her group of anti-fans was already mocking her:
【No way, no way, the little vase has become a tool to take the fall one day?】
【It’s over, the little vase is famous. I’m afraid I’m not good enough for her anymore. @Mu Yanxi, hurry up and transfer 10,000 yuan to your daddy.】
【I was going to come in and mock her, but after seeing that edited video… Never mind, sisters, I’m going to take screenshots for my profile picture, hehe.】
【So the fight is on, is it, is it, is it? As expected, the little vase’s variety shows are never as peaceful as they seem. The drama may be late, but it will always arrive (watching the show.jpg)】
While various factions fought fiercely on Weibo, the production team of 《Secret Room Rush Rush Rush》 was shrouded in gloom.
The director’s team was still discussing how to film the remaining half of this week’s episode when they were blindsided by the online storm, forcing them to change their workshop into an emergency meeting.
For a variety show, having a script was common, but it was usually not brought out into the open. Once exposed, the show’s reputation would be greatly affected, the audience and fan ratings would drop, and it would cause irreversible damage to the production team.
From then on, whenever an artist felt wronged or someone said something sensitive, it would be blamed on the production team’s arrangement. The team couldn’t bear such consequences.
The faces of several directors and producers were grim.
The assistant director suggested, “Contact Weibo quickly and get the trending topic taken down first.”
But the director rejected it with a sharp insight. “It’s not that simple. Right now, the production team and several artists are on the negative trending topics. The other party is coming on strong. They’re not trying to take down Jiang Tong; they clearly want to ruin our show.”
The producer nodded. “If we can’t clarify this and just spend money to remove the topic, the other party might have more tricks up their sleeve. We can’t be so passive.”
The director glared at the assistant director. “It’s all because you insisted on giving Jiang Tong a script. How are we supposed to clean up this mess now?”
“Why don’t we just push all the blame onto her? Anyway, a lot of people online are saying that the part where Mu Yanxi got the jade was very fake,” the assistant director suggested.
The director seemed to be struck by a sudden inspiration, said, “I know what to do,” and walked out.
Seeing this, the assistant director immediately sent a message to Jiang Tong, telling him it was handled.
Jiang Tong breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving the message and immediately arranged for paid commenters to clean up his topic page.
The production team didn’t delay. Five minutes later, they posted two consecutive Weibo posts from their official account.
The first was an explanation for Jiang Tong’s god-like performance in the secret room. The team claimed that Jiang Tong had experienced it once before, so he still remembered the layout of the room. They also promised to thoroughly investigate which secret rooms Jiang Tong had visited in the future and never make such a mistake again.
At first glance, this statement seemed to explain Jiang Tong’s performance and clear him of having a script. But it implied that the script Jiang Tong had wasn’t given by the production team, but one he brought himself, directly slapping him in the face regarding his ‘secret room killer’ trending topic.
The persona Jiang Tong had spent over a hundred thousand yuan marketing all night was now a complete waste.
If that was enough to displease Jiang Tong, then the second Weibo post from the production team made him so angry he flipped over the table in his studio.
When clarifying his situation, the team used the excuse of prior experience. But when clarifying Mu Yanxi’s, they used a video.
Jiang Tong had been in the same secret room at the time. He clearly remembered the camera being far away, making it impossible to hear anything.
But who knew that the camera in the video was placed inside the coffin, recording Mu Yanxi’s line, “The Civil Code stipulates that sexual harassment based on employment is not allowed,” with perfect clarity. The zombie in the frame also let go at that exact moment, just as the audience had seen from a distance during the live broadcast.
The comments section exploded:
【Dying of laughter, family. So the little vase was using this to fool those NPCs before?】
【Zombies used to fear Daoist priests the most, but now they fear the Civil Code. Is this the decay of morality or the distortion of human nature (doge)?】
【Mu Yanxi, you never fail to impress.】
【Help, I just Baidu-ed it, and Article 1010 of the Civil Code really says that???】
【How dare you! I want to report Mu Yanxi for piggybacking on the Civil Code’s popularity!】
【Look at how wronged Brother Zombie looks. I’m starting to think the little vase was actually holding back when she roasted me? Mu Yanxi, be honest, do you have a secret crush on me?】
【It’s over, I also think the little vase has a secret crush on me (doge).】
Mu Yanxi looked at the flood of comments from her anti-fans, sneered, and couldn’t even be bothered to reply, closing her phone with a noble, cold, and aloof air.
Just then, there was a knock on the hospital room door. It was Doctor Hao, the family doctor who had treated Mu Yanxi before. He had shares in this hospital and occasionally worked here, so he naturally took charge of Mu Yanxi’s case.
Mu Yanxi’s fever had subsided, and there was nothing seriously wrong with her. Even her spirits had lifted a bit thanks to Yi Wulan’s company. However, Yi Wulan was still worried as she held the test results, looking at Doctor Hao and asking:
“Is she really okay? This isn’t the first time she’s had a sudden high fever. Are the test results the same as last time?”
Doctor Hao nodded. “President Yi, Miss Mu’s body is indeed fine. I arranged a full-body check-up this time, and all her values are perfectly standard. She should just eat a healthier diet, exercise more, and try to work less.”
Yi Wulan glanced at Mu Yanxi and insisted on asking, “Do other people also get this…”
“It’s probably because I’m not used to the climate in Fengcheng, and the recording venue was rather damp and cold. Being in that environment for a long time made me feel unwell,” Mu Yanxi explained on the doctor’s behalf, then pulled Yi Wulan’s hand. “Help me with the discharge papers. I don’t like the smell of disinfectant in hospitals.”
“Don’t be so handsy.” Yi Wulan’s hand stiffened when it was grabbed. She was clearly very uncomfortable with it in front of an outsider, but she didn’t pull away.
Mu Yanxi said “oh” and obediently shut her mouth.
As Doctor Hao was about to leave, Yi Wulan called out to him again. “Is there any kind of…”
Yi Wulan looked at Mu Yanxi and slowly enunciated the last few words, “medicine to clear heat and reduce fire?”
Mu Yanxi: …
Don’t think she didn’t know Yi Wulan meant that for her.
It was most likely because Yi Wulan found her too clingy and wanted her to clear her heart and reduce her desires.
But… could any normal person possibly clear their heart and reduce their desires when faced with Yi Wulan’s face?
Mu Yanxi coughed lightly.
The doctor looked at her. “Your fever has already broken. Just be more careful in your daily life. There’s no need for special medication.”
Mu Yanxi was about to nod when Yi Wulan unexpectedly took the blame. “It’s for me.”
Doctor Hao was suddenly in a difficult position. “President Yi, you can’t take medicine indiscriminately, especially with your delicate health. It could be counterproductive. If you really need it, you’ll have to cooperate with a check-up, and I…”
“No need, no need.” Mu Yanxi hurriedly pulled Yi Wulan up. “Thank you for your trouble, doctor. We’ll go handle the discharge procedures now.”
Although Yi Wulan’s leg had mostly recovered, Mu Yanxi still subconsciously slowed her pace every time she pulled Yi Wulan up.
After they finished the discharge procedures and were about to leave the hospital, Yi Wulan suddenly stopped, pulled Mu Yanxi over, and began to button up her clothes one by one, not satisfied until every button on Mu Yanxi’s inner and outer layers was fastened to the very top.
When the hospital doors opened, Yi Wulan felt the temperature outside and wanted to take off her own coat.
Mu Yanxi quickly stopped her hand, reminding her in a low voice, “I’m not cold.”
Fengcheng was further north, and the temperature was much lower than in Yuncheng. It was already early winter by the end of October. The hospital room had a thermostat-controlled central air conditioner, so even with the window open, the incoming breeze wasn’t that cold.
Yi Wulan had clearly flown over on short notice and was completely unprepared. Her clothes were even thinner than Mu Yanxi’s, so Mu Yanxi was naturally afraid Yi Wulan would get cold.
Yi Wulan glanced at her but said nothing.
Mu Yanxi leaned in closer. “Didn’t you want to get me some medicine to clear heat and reduce fire? How could I possibly be cold?”
Yi Wulan’s back stiffened. She glared. “Get in the car. And be quiet.”
Mu Yanxi suppressed a laugh and got into the car.
The car was a last-minute rental and wasn’t as comfortable as their car back home. The shock absorption was particularly poor. Yi Wulan found it too jarring to look at her computer for more than half a minute and closed it.
Seeing this, Mu Yanxi asked, “Are you very busy? When are you going back to Yuncheng?”
“I have a meeting tomorrow morning, so I have to go back today.” Yi Wulan reached out and ruffled Mu Yanxi’s hair. “Take care of yourself. If you get sick again before you come back to Yuncheng, you can forget about ever leaving the house again.”
“You’re so fierce, Yi Wulan,” Mu Yanxi pouted. “So, do you have anything to do this afternoon?”
“Not for now. I can accompany you.”
Mu Yanxi’s lips curled into a smile. She called out to Chen Xu, “Let’s go to the mall.”
“What for?”
“To… buy some things.” Mu Yanxi touched her nose, feeling a little guilty.
Seeing her like this, Yi Wulan couldn’t help but scold her. “Didn’t I tell you before to bring more clothes? What can you possibly fit in that tiny suitcase of yours? Chen Xu, to the mall!”
On the way to the mall, Yi Wulan’s usually quiet persona crumbled as she nagged Mu Yanxi incessantly, to the point where Mu Yanxi felt like covering her ears.
But in the end, Mu Yanxi felt that covering her own ears was too embarrassing, so she simply covered Yi Wulan’s lips and threatened fiercely in her ear, “Say one more word and I’ll kiss you.”
And so, her ears were finally quiet.
Rongjia’s Huazhen Shopping Centers were located in many first-tier cities. Chen Xu wasn’t familiar with the different levels of malls, so he drove directly to the Huazhen Shopping Center.
As soon as they got out of the car, Mu Yanxi pulled Yi Wulan straight to the eighteenth floor.
Just like the Huazhen Shopping Center in Yuncheng, the eighteenth floor and above in Fengcheng were all luxury brand stores. Late October was the perfect time for new early winter collections to be released. Mu Yanxi was like a fish returning to the sea, her mood visibly brightening.
Especially this time, with Chen Xu there to carry things, Mu Yanxi picked and bought things all the way, becoming the god of wealth for the sales associates on that floor.
When Mu Yanxi brought over a business-style suit for the fifth time, Yi Wulan finally couldn’t help but interrupt, “Why have you taken a liking to these kinds of clothes recently?”
After all, in her eyes, the little peacock had never liked overly formal clothes, wishing she could pile every beautiful thing onto herself.
Mu Yanxi glanced at Yi Wulan matter-of-factly. “Of course, this is… for you.”
Now that she was exposed, Mu Yanxi stopped holding the clothes up to herself. She directly pulled Yi Wulan over and held the clothes against her. “It’s so cold in Fengcheng. You didn’t even check the weather forecast before you came. It’s going to get colder this evening. You might get cold.”
Yi Wulan’s stern face was about to break. She took the clothes and chided in a low voice, “All you know is how to spend money recklessly.”
Mu Yanxi didn’t care at all and replied smoothly, “Then I’ll just use my sister’s card later.”
Yi Wulan: …
Yi Wulan held back for two seconds before taking a new card out of her bag and stuffing it into Mu Yanxi’s hand. “Use this one.”
Mu Yanxi raised an eyebrow slightly, took the card obligingly, and said no more.
After leaving the mall, the car finally stopped in front of a resort hotel in the suburbs. The hotel wasn’t far from the show’s filming location, but just from the exterior, it was clear that it was countless times better than the hotel arranged by the production team.
Mu Yanxi looked at Yi Wulan. “You’re staying here?”
“You’re staying here starting today. Don’t get a fever again because the hotel is uncomfortable or you’re not used to the climate.” Yi Wulan led her towards the elevator. “I’ve already spoken with the hotel. No one else will come up to the top floor. Your manager and the others can come stay here too. Turn on the heat at night. If you get sick again, I won’t be rushing over.”
The top floor consisted of three presidential suites, fully equipped with all amenities, countless times better than the small rooms arranged by the production team.
Mu Yanxi stepped out of the elevator and looked in the three directions, only then remembering what Yi Wulan had said at the beginning. “The entire floor?”
“Didn’t you say you have a lot of fans? This is safer.”
Mu Yanxi suppressed a laugh. Although she hadn’t seen a single fan of hers since arriving in Fengcheng, she still put on a troubled expression. “I thought no one would come to a suburb like this. I didn’t expect them to follow me here so enthusiastically. I really didn’t expect them to be this passionate.”
Yi Wulan’s face immediately darkened a shade. She walked over to the central air conditioning controls to adjust the temperature and subconsciously turned it to the lowest setting.
As if to dispel that passion.
But then she thought of Mu Yanxi’s body, which had just recovered from a fever. Yi Wulan pressed her lips together.
And turned the temperature back up.
