Chapter 50: The Men in Black
On the fifteenth, while heading home, Shen Bumian was attacked again.
He looked at the seven or eight men dressed in black and wearing masks in front of him, standing still in the corner of the wall.
He had originally been waiting at the school gate for his family to pick him up when he saw a little girl on the opposite side of the street whose balloon had gotten stuck on a tree branch, unable to be retrieved.
There was no adult with the little girl. Shen Bumian guessed her parents might be shopping in the nearby store, so he walked over and helped the little girl get her balloon down.
The little girl wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. She seemed very well-behaved; even when crying, she didn’t wail loudly but just silently shed tears.
After drying her eyes, she said thank you to the big brother who helped her and even gave him the lollipop she was holding.
Shen Bumian lowered his eyes to the childishly wrapped lollipop and accepted it. As soon as the little girl got her balloon back, she went into the store, probably to find her parents.
Just as Shen Bumian lifted his foot to leave, he was abruptly pulled into a small alley nearby.
Now, looking at the group of people whose expressions were hidden, he didn’t know their motive, so he didn’t speak.
The group of men looked at each other without a word. Finally, the man in the lead, also wearing a mask, was the first to approach the youth in the corner.
They had no choice. The order they received was to bring the young man back, but they were not to harm him. Therefore, this “kidnapping” would not involve the use of pheromones or abilities.
However, as he now looked at the stunningly beautiful yet fragile youth, he was lost in thought, leading his subordinates with a sense of uncertainty about how to proceed.
The target omega truly looked as if he could be broken easily, his wrists were so slender.
Unless the omega cooperated with them voluntarily, they would probably leave marks even just by grabbing his wrist.
They were momentarily undecided. Would that count as an injury? For anyone else, it definitely wouldn’t, but this omega… it seemed like even a slight reddening of his skin would be very painful.
After a standoff for a few minutes, he finally moved. No matter what, the mission had to be completed.
During the standoff, Shen Bumian had been stealthily observing the eyes of the men in black and was surprised to find a hint of indecision in them.
Would a “kidnapper” care about their hostage? Of course not. So, it was obvious they were concerned about something—perhaps the person behind them? Or something else?
Shen Bumian raised his head slightly, his exquisite face filled with panic and fear, his eyelashes trembling as if he were terrified of this group of people.
“Who… who are you?”
The omega’s usually cool and clear voice was now trembling. He bit his lower lip, every gesture revealing his fear.
Shen Bumian took a few steps back as if he were unsteady on his feet, but behind him was a dark gray wall, leaving him no room to retreat.
It gave the impression that if not for the wall behind him, the fragile omega might have already lost his footing and fallen to the ground.
The men in black present were all Alphas. Having undergone professional training, they naturally wouldn’t be seduced by an ordinary omega.
But this was Shen Bumian. Their eyes darkened. At this moment, the omega looked so pitiful, making one want to pull him into an embrace and comfort him.
He also wanted him to be more pitiful, to be able to rely on himself.
Just like a dodder flower that can only rely on other plants to survive, they all thought at that moment that they wanted Shen Bumian to live by relying on them.
Shen Bumian was sensitive to others’ gazes. He knew what the eyes on him meant at that moment.
Although there was no great malice, just the destructive urge inherent in Alphas at work, Shen Bumian still felt uncomfortable.
A hint of an unreadable expression flashed in Shen Bumian’s eyes. He was not a dodder flower; he could live without anyone.
The leader of the group thought about the mission, swallowed hard, and with great difficulty suppressed his inner thoughts. This was wrong.
He deliberately softened his voice, as if afraid of scaring Shen Bumian, “You, don’t be afraid. We just want to take you to see our master. We won’t hurt you.”
Shen Bumian blinked upon hearing this, his bitten lip loosening and then biting again. His eyes, shimmering with a watery gleam, looked at the person who spoke, “Really?”
That person’s body trembled. The Omega’s gaze seemed to make the world lose its color, and the young man himself looked as if he had stepped out of a painting.
No, he was even more stunning than a painting.
He came back to his senses and nodded at the young man, gesturing to the people behind him not to get too close, so as not to scare the young man.
Shen Bumian pretended to believe them and nodded slightly. He moved his foot as if he was about to follow them, but his eyes were secretly darting toward the alley entrance.
However, everyone present was so captivated by the Omega that they didn’t notice his gaze. Their professional attention was now focused on other things.
No one realized that their vigilance was dropping again and again.
Just as the man was about to touch Shen Bumian’s arm, a blade of light came tearing through the air, and the man dodged.
However, no matter how fast he was, it still grazed his arm. The black sleeve instantly soaked up blood, drenching half of it.
He watched the blade of light on the wall disappear. The depth of the cut in the wall indicated that if he had been a second later, he would already be dead.
The person who arrived was Qin Lizhi. When Shen Bumian was pulled into the alley, he realized something was wrong and secretly used his comm to send Qin Lizhi his location.
So Qin Lizhi’s appearance was completely expected. However, he didn’t expect Qin Lizhi to arrive so quickly. He remembered that Qin Lizhi had no classes that morning and had gone home early.
After dodging the attack, the man began to attack Qin Lizhi. The people behind him, of course, joined in.
Qin Lizhi’s eyes darkened. He looked at the person who had almost touched Shen Bumian, and a violent thought rose in his heart.
He now only wanted to kill all these people and then lock up Shen Bumian so he wouldn’t encounter any danger, and no one else would have the audacity to come near him.
But he couldn’t. This would scare Shen Bumian.
He didn’t want the Omega to look at him with fear.
When he saw the group of espers surrounding Shen Bumian just now, his heart almost stopped. Shen Bumian’s body was so weak; he definitely couldn’t fight them off.
Qin Lizhi was a little regretful that the blade of light didn’t kill them with a single strike, but it didn’t matter. He didn’t take this group of people seriously, but he was afraid they might accidentally hurt the Omega in the corner.
So, in that second, Qin Lizhi had already teleported in front of Shen Bumian. He hugged Shen Bumian into his arms and raised his left hand.
He activated his SS-level ability, Spirit Binding, which directly locked the mental power of the several men in black.
This was an irreversible injury. The one who was hit would have their mental power collapse and would never be able to use their ability again.
Those with less severe injuries would be unable to use their abilities for a long time and could only slowly recuperate their mental power.
For a group of professional killers, this was undoubtedly a debilitating blow. When they were no longer able to work for their master, they would lose their value, and their lives would be forfeit.
Shen Bumian felt it. Qin Lizhi really wanted to kill that group of people. The hand he used to grip Qin Lizhi’s clothes tightened. Qin Lizhi couldn’t kill people.
Fortunately, Qin Lizhi seemed to have realized something was wrong and withdrew his hand in time, not activating a second ability. Once the second ability was activated, Shen Bumian felt they truly wouldn’t have a way out.
Just as Qin Lizhi was about to tie them up and wait for people to come and arrest them, the space behind the men in black suddenly ripped open, and the group instantly vanished.
They knew that someone with a space ability had come to pick them up. Qin Lizhi’s eyes darkened.
This was the second time he knew of. Both times, it happened near the military academy, in the Imperial territory, where they tried to harm Shen Bumian.
Who were these people? Why were they so determined to target Shen Bumian? No wonder the Shen family needed to cooperate with the Qin family and have him protect Shen Bumian.
Shen Bumian seemed to be truly unsafe. Had he been living like this before? Qin Lizhi’s heart ached.
Before, he only felt it was a promise between the two families that he should fulfill. But now, he looked down at Shen Bumian in his arms.
This was the person he loved, the person he was willing to protect with his life. He would definitely protect Shen Bumian well. Not for a year, but for a lifetime.
Maybe a lifetime wasn’t enough. If he could, he wanted to stay by Shen Bumian’s side and protect him forever.
Qin Lizhi suddenly hugged Shen Bumian, thinking, he had truly fallen, but if it was for Shen Bumian, he was willing to fall into a ditch.
