ISWMQ – Chapter 21

A cold sweat instantly broke out on Jiang Yuan’s back.

Several people had formed a near-circle, trapping her and Rong Guang in the center.

However, Jiang Yuan was, after all, a veteran who had been around film crews for a long time. Her mind raced, and she quickly spoke up, “What are you talking about—Teacher Chu, you must have misunderstood. I was just worried that Teacher Rong would be late on her first day, so I came to the gate specifically to pick her up. Look, I even prepared a red envelope for the security guard.”

Teacher Rong?

Rong Guang raised an eyebrow. Jiang Yuan’s reaction was certainly quick.

Jiang Yuan’s smile was a grimace.

Ye Zi said, “It’s not nice to lie.”

Chacha popped a big bubblegum bubble with a ‘pop’ and said animatedly, “Wow, you even give the security guard a two-thousand-yuan red envelope just to pick up a minor supporting actress. Uncle, your job pays really well. How about an introduction later?”

The red envelope that had been on the table in the guardhouse had already been snatched by Chacha and Ye Zi through the window. They were now happily counting the money off to the side.

Sun Yuzhi frowned.

Jiang Yuan was sweating all over. It was already cooling down in the late summer and early autumn, yet she was breaking out in a cold sweat. She never imagined that a teenage girl could understand everything so clearly.

But by now, it was too late for her to say anything.

Among those present, aside from Rong Guang and Chacha—even Ye Zi, who had grown up on film sets—who wasn’t sharp and perceptive?

In this situation, who couldn’t tell what had just happened?

Sun Yuzhi glanced around. After this delay, it was already almost eight-thirty. The person had to be dealt with, but he couldn’t hold up the crew’s schedule.

He immediately tried to smooth things over, saying, “Let’s go in first—you’re Jiang Yuan, right? Come find me after the script reading.”

Jiang Yuan could only nod meekly in agreement. Rong Guang glanced at her, waved at Chacha, and followed behind.

Sun Yuzhi drove off first. After seeing Chacha, Ye Zi didn’t want to ride back with him and wanted to go with Chacha instead.

Sun Yuzhi didn’t force her. Plus, he seemed to be in a hurry, so he drove off and vanished in a cloud of dust.

Chu Feiliang looked around. Except for the security guard who hadn’t come out of the guardhouse, there wasn’t a soul in sight now that the call time had passed.

After observing the dirt on Chacha’s face, clothes, knees, and hair, she asked, “How did you two get here?”

Rong Guang explained everything in detail, “Tang Yuan drove us here.”

The remaining few then looked at each other in dismay.

Rong Guang widened her eyes innocently, staring at Chu Feiliang with a hopeful gaze.

After a long moment, Chu Feiliang spread her hands, shrugged, and said, “Well, no car.”

It was at least a ten-minute drive from the main gate of the base to the parking area near the office for the script reading.

A ten-minute drive meant it would take an hour to walk on two legs.

Rong Guang asked cautiously, “Then you are…?”

“Didn’t I just say so? You’ve already forgotten?” Chu Feiliang smiled and said, “I came out for a walk.”

Rong Guang froze, then quickly blushed and waved her hands, saying softly, “I-I didn’t forget. I remember you said you were out for a walk. I thought you were joking…”

This time, Chu Feiliang let out a short laugh. “Then I’ve misjudged you. You pay quite a bit of attention to me.”

Rong Guang immediately felt a little embarrassed, but she still nodded like a chick pecking at rice.

If you don’t say you like someone, they’ll never know.

She was just worried that being too intense would be a burden to the current Chu Feiliang… but from the looks of it now, it seemed to be… not bad?

After staring at Rong Guang for another moment, Chu Feiliang finally curled her lips into a slight smile and calmly averted her gaze.

Jiang Yuan waited for their conversation to end before cautiously shuffling over, wringing her hands.

“T-Teacher Rong, Teacher Chu, this… if you two don’t mind, you can take my car. I’ll drive you in?”

Teacher Rong?

Rong Guang looked at her without any expression.

Jiang Yuan’s breath caught in her throat under Rong Guang’s stare. She quickly struck while the iron was hot. “It’s all my fault. This is all my fault. It’s my fault for looking down on people. Please give me a chance to make up for my mistake. It’s getting late, and if we don’t go now, we’ll really be delayed.”

“But you’re the one who caused this in the first place,” Chacha pointed out Jiang Yuan’s nonsensical argument. “How can you make up for anything? Not only did you harm my Sister Guangguang, but you also implicated Teacher Chu.”

“How tragic,” Ye Zi blinked and pointed at Chu Feiliang beside them. “It won’t be a delay. Teacher Chu is here. The crew can’t start without her, so don’t you worry.”

How could she possibly not worry!

Jiang Yuan’s face turned green!

Never mind Ye Zi, the biggest connection in the entire crew—where on earth did this little girl named Chacha pop up from?! How did she manage to get in with this legendary little devil?!

She wanted to try again, but Chu Feiliang’s phone rang.

The words Jiang Yuan wanted to say got stuck in her throat, leaving her in an awkward position and making her expression even uglier.

Chu Feiliang glanced at the caller ID before answering and walked a short distance away.

Once Rong Guang was sure that Chu Feiliang was too far away to hear them, she blinked and said in a heartfelt tone, “I know it’s not easy for you.”

Jiang Yuan was taken aback, a hint of joy appearing on her face. “Yes, yes, it’s wonderful that you think so. We’re just little guys who follow orders…”

“But you seem to have a pretty easy time bullying people.” Rong Guang’s tone was mournful, not giving her a chance to continue her nonsense. “Teacher Jiang Ruyi is a senior. I can’t compare to her.”

Jiang Yuan froze.

She never expected that Rong Guang could also directly guess it was Jiang Ruyi. She could only make a last-ditch struggle. “You must be joking…”

Rong Guang ignored her. Seeing a car approaching in the distance, she smiled and said, “The production services staff always treat people according to their status. Sucking up to the powerful and trampling on the weak is an old trick for you veterans to skim some benefits. I know that.”

With every word Rong Guang spoke, more cold sweat appeared on Jiang Yuan’s face.

“It’s just that your face-changing skills aren’t quite perfected yet. You’re far worse than me. You should learn more from me.” Rong Guang patted her shoulder and said with a grin.

Hearing this, Chacha fumbled her bite, and her bubblegum fell to the ground.

She felt a pang of regret, picked it up, wrapped it in its paper, and stuffed it back into her pocket. Staring at the big red envelope in her hand, she exchanged a look with Ye Zi, and a glint of green light flashed in both their eyes.

Splitting! The! Loot!

Chacha instantly stuffed the red envelope into Ye Zi’s schoolbag.

After watching her finish, Ye Zi cleared her throat and said with feigned casualness, “Is your Sister Guangguang praising herself?”

“Mhm, yes!” As Rong Guang’s number one loyal fan, Chacha nodded without hesitation and said, “A compliment that can infuriate the enemy is a good compliment. Look, Auntie Jiang is about to emit a green glow from the top of her head!”

Ye Zi let out a series of ‘wows,’ playing along enthusiastically.

Jiang Yuan felt like she was grinding her teeth to dust out of hatred!
