Wu Xiaoqiong was a bit surprised to hear this, but mostly happy for Shen Ningruo: “Really? That’s wonderful, bring them next time you come!”
“Okay, I will,” Shen Ningruo’s smile didn’t fade.
Wu Xiaoqiong’s voice was full of laughter: “How is Xiao Qiu? Has she moved on from the sadness of her breakup?”
“She’s moved on, she’s also in a relationship.”
Wu Xiaoqiong: “Ah?”
Wu Xiaoqiong sighed: “I was really worried she’d get hurt again, I was just thinking of introducing her to someone reliable.”
Wu Xiaoqiong continued: “But it’s a good thing that Xiao Qiu can get into a new relationship, I fully support it.”
“Yes, I support it too.” Shen Ningruo lightly traced Qiu Yang’s palm. When the other person looked over with bright eyes, she continued to coax Wu Xiaoqiong, “Oh, I’ve met her partner, don’t worry, I think they’re quite good.”
“Is that so? Alright then, I’ll have Xiao Qiu come visit us sometime too. We two aunties have seen countless people in our lives, if that person isn’t good, we’ll be able to tell at a glance,” Wu Xiaoqiong said confidently.
Shen Ningruo: “Okay!”
Shen Ningruo’s smile deepened: “Then Auntie Xiaoqiong, you can help me take a look too.”
As she said this, she quietly turned on the speakerphone.
“Definitely, just bring them over.”
“We two aunties will be like a formidable duo, ready to deal with any idiots.”
“Okay, then you two aunties enjoy yourselves. We’re about to get off the car.”
“Alright, go ahead and get busy.”
The call ended the next second. Qiu Yang looked at Shen Ningruo, narrowed her eyes, and lightly snorted: “How can you even lie to elders? One minute you say you’re in love, the next you say I am.”
“Or would you rather the elders introduce you to someone?” Shen Ningruo put her phone back in her pocket and also let out a light snort, “I definitely don’t want that.”
Saying this, she leaned in and whispered in Qiu Yang’s ear: “You are my Xiao Yang.”
Her voice was low and deep, her breath fanning around Qiu Yang’s ear, making her feel a little ticklish.
After Shen Ningruo finished speaking, it felt like it wasn’t enough. She raised her hand to cover her chin area and kissed Qiu Yang’s ear.
They weren’t in their own car right now, so there were many inconveniences, and she still needed to be careful.
Qiu Yang’s ears instantly turned a shade of pink, looking particularly noticeable. She turned her head and glared at Shen Ningruo “fiercely,” but the upward curve of her lips couldn’t be suppressed.
It felt inexplicably like two people in a budding, innocent romance.
What Shen Ningruo said to Wu Xiaoqiong wasn’t just an excuse. A few minutes later, they got out of the car.
The sun was strong at the moment, and most pedestrians on the street were holding umbrellas. Some even had small portable fans to cool themselves down.
The milk tea shops and cold drink stores by the roadside were doing good business. Some people came out of supermarkets holding bottles of iced water or ice cream.
Although it was spring, Xicheng felt like summer. Everyone was wearing short sleeves, shorts, and skirts, dressed for cool weather.
But it was too hot. The heat kept rising from the ground, enveloping and covering people, making it impossible to escape.
Qiu Yang looked at all this and couldn’t help but sigh: “I don’t really like summer anymore.”
Shen Ningruo held the umbrella, constantly watching the people passing by to make sure they didn’t bump into Qiu Yang. Hearing Qiu Yang say this, she smiled: “I don’t really like it either.”
She walked and talked: “When summer comes to Yuncheng, we’ll stay home on weekends, each with half a chilled watermelon, eating it with a spoon.”
“And then both get diarrhea?” Qiu Yang finished the sentence. The surrounding noise faded from her ears; her eyes were only on Shen Ningruo now.
Imagining the future was a beautiful thing. Qiu Yang already had a mental image.
“You,” Shen Ningruo couldn’t help but raise her hand and gently pinch Qiu Yang’s earlobe, like a parent scolding a naughty child, “You’re ruining the mood.”
“How so?”
“It’s just realistic.”
They chatted all the way and joined a queue.
The place they arrived at was the Xicheng Museum. It wasn’t hot inside, it was nearby, and the museum was very famous, making it their travel destination for the day.
The holiday crowd was indeed too large. There were two lines of security guards stationed outside the museum entrance. Nowadays, tickets are mostly bought online and entered using ID cards, which makes it easy for scalpers to inflate prices during holidays and make a fortune.
However, they didn’t buy from scalpers but on a ticketing app. Since they bought relatively early, they didn’t encounter scalpers inflating prices.
There were people in front and behind them. The queue to enter the museum was longer than any queue they had seen in the past two days. After slowly passing through security, they finally entered the museum.
It instantly felt cooler all around. The air conditioning inside was running at full blast. After just a few steps, it made you feel like outside was the Flaming Mountains, while inside was like the refrigerator’s crisper drawer.
It was very comfortable and pleasant.
“I wish there were fewer people,” Qiu Yang said, looking at the crowded people in front, momentarily speechless.
Shen Ningruo turned to look at her: “If we have a chance in the future, we’ll come on a weekend. It shouldn’t be as exaggerated as it is now.”
Qiu Yang nodded: “Okay.”
The Xicheng Museum was also a popular spot for many people to visit. It had three floors. The exterior architecture of the museum was grand and imposing, while the interior was exquisite and magnificent.
A tour guide from a travel group was quietly explaining the historical figures and events featured inside. Some other tourists went over to listen for a few sentences, found it uninteresting, and pulled their companions to continue squeezing forward.
Qiu Yang held Shen Ningruo’s hand the whole way. They didn’t walk fast, looking at the displayed artifacts very carefully. Occasionally, when she recognized something, she would earnestly explain it to the other person.
For them, coming to the museum was essentially a date. So, for a date, they naturally did whatever felt comfortable. If they just rushed through to get to the next place, it would go against their original intention. Looking around like this, they reached the third floor without realizing it.
Time was flowing normally at this point, yet it felt much slower. Only when they finished looking at the artifacts in the last area and saw the word “Exit” did Qiu Yang realize they had finished exploring the museum.
She blinked, looked at Shen Ningruo, and said in disbelief: “Is that it?”
“Yes,” Shen Ningruo said.
Qiu Yang looked at her watch again, even more surprised that time had leisurely drifted to five o’clock.
The museum stopped admitting new visitors at 5:30.
“That was fast,” Qiu Yang and Shen Ningruo walked side-by-side onto the escalator going down.
Shen Ningruo nodded: “It was very fast.”
“Comfortable days always pass quickly.”
Qiu Yang deeply agreed. She followed the crowd out of the museum. The sky outside had returned to how it was yesterday afternoon; the sunset glow in the sky was so beautiful that many people started taking photos and videos as soon as they came out.
Shen Ningruo also picked up her phone, but she opened the front camera and pointed it at herself and Qiu Yang.
Qiu Yang tilted her head and leaned on Shen Ningruo’s shoulder. Both their faces were tinged with orange, which was very noticeable under the camera. Shen Ningruo looked at Qiu Yang in the frame and said: “With Pingzi, it’s a family photo; without Pingzi, it’s a couple’s photo.”
“Yes,” Qiu Yang just responded, her mouth still slightly open, when Shen Ningruo pressed the shutter. Then she looked at the photo she had just taken.
Shen Ningruo laughed: “Xiao Yang, you look like you’re faking a smile.”
“Wasn’t that on purpose?” Qiu Yang snatched the phone, “You’re not professional, I’ll take it.”
Shen Ningruo: “Okay, okay.”
Shen Ningruo’s tone was doting: “Our Photographer Qiu is the most professional.”
Qiu Yang found good lighting, angles, and background, and adjusted the phone’s position. As expected, she took a very good selfie.
Without a word, Shen Ningruo set her favorite one as the home screen wallpaper. She swiped her phone, very satisfied.
Qiu Yang saw her action, clicked her tongue, and didn’t say much, but the meaning was clear.
Shen Ningruo looked up at her proud expression and couldn’t help but curve her eyes into a smile: “Photographer Qiu really worked hard and did a great job, the photos are beautiful.”
“You’re right,” Qiu Yang nodded, satisfied.
They didn’t plan to wander around anymore because going out was quite tiring, so they prepared to hail a taxi by the roadside.
However, this area was very congested right now, even harder to get a taxi than yesterday. It felt like yesterday’s experience was repeating itself, only worse this time.
Qiu Yang held her phone tightly, worried about it being stolen again. Watching car after car pass by, she let out a slight sigh.
After waiting for at least fifteen minutes, they still couldn’t get a taxi. She felt a bit defeated and turned to suggest: “Ruoruo, let’s walk a bit first.”
“Okay.”
“This isn’t a good spot to get a taxi.”
Shen Ningruo had already gone to the supermarket by the roadside to buy water. Now they both held a bottle of water, but they were both about half empty.
They were really thirsty after walking for so long.
The trees on the street swayed in the wind, their leaves casting shifting patterns of light and shadow on the ground. They walked along, stepping on these moving shadows, and unknowingly walked quite a distance.
This area was indeed less crowded and seemed much easier to get a taxi.
A taxi was approaching from the left. Qiu Yang waved, but unfortunately, the taxi passed them by without stopping.
Qiu Yang: “…”
Shen Ningruo: “…”
“It’s driving me crazy! That taxi just now showed ‘Empty,’ but it was full?” About two meters ahead, a girl was complaining to her friend. She waved forward again, not giving up, but another taxi showing ‘Empty’ but full of people passed by.
Shen Ningruo heard this voice and found it somewhat familiar. But looking at the girl’s outfit, she couldn’t recognize her.
The girl had her hair in a bun, wearing a short, tight T-shirt that revealed a section of her slender waist, paired with a super short skirt. She was also wearing high heels, and her heels were rubbed red, looking a bit sore.
Qiu Yang also heard the voice. She exchanged a look with Shen Ningruo, neither daring to match this person with the one in their memory.
It wasn’t until the girl complained to her friend again and tilted her head slightly that they saw her profile.
The next second, the girl inadvertently looked back, just wanting to see how many people were waiting for a taxi, but she didn’t expect to see Shen Ningruo and Qiu Yang’s faces.
Ke Yezi: “…”
Oh my god, did I just see a ghost!
