Chapter 34: Tempting Jiang Yan with Blood
“That dumb wolf giving you a headache again?” Jiang Yan’s soft, listless voice suddenly drifted down from above. I immediately sat up, turned, and took a few steps back. Sure enough, Jiang Yan was sitting on the roof. Moonlight bathed his lifeless face, making him look even more like a zombie crawled out from a grave, exceptionally pale and devoid of vitality.
Above him stretched the vast starry sky and the luminous Milky Way. He seemed to be sitting beneath the stars, as if he could easily reach out and pluck them to play with in his hand.
I thought for a moment, then used my cloud-walking shoes to ascend the roof. He was, once again, sucking on a blood bag, his body having readjusted to dog blood over the past few days.
I sat down beside him: “Jiang Yan, who is Qi Yuan William?”
He bent his knees, his arms resting limply on them. His pale hands drooped, even his fingernails had turned bluish-black. He glanced at me listlessly, then looked ahead: “Qi Yuan William is the second-ranked candidate in the Wolf God Clan, second only to Mo Ming in ability. His father is from the Western wolf tribe, and his mother is Mo Ming’s father’s younger sister. So he’s very powerful, and because of his outgoing personality, he’s much more popular than Mo Ming.”
“With Mo Ming’s temper, how could he be popular? I think everyone else in the Wolf God Clan is more popular than him.” That short-circuited wolf, talking to him was truly exhausting.
“But he’s a pureblood, the heir to the main family.” Jiang Yan’s words surprised me. Mo Ming seemed to be really something. Jiang Yan looked ahead expressionlessly, “He’s destined to be the future clan leader of the Wolf God Clan. Before, he didn’t have a master for a long time, which worried the Wolf God family. The family hoped he would become Xuan Yuan Chen’s guardian, but… he chose you.” Jiang Yan glanced at me listlessly, “He’s probably lost his chance at the position of main family head. Qi Yuan William will probably succeed him.”
“What?” I looked at him in shock.
Jiang Yan retracted his gaze and stretched: “His feelings for you are no less than the infatuation mortal men have for women.” He clutched the blood bag weakly like a dying man in dire need of a transfusion.
I stared at him blankly, my heart suddenly touched.
Jiang Yan’s green eyes flashed with a cold light in the moonlight: “But the way he formed a contract with you is… inexplicably irritating.” He narrowed his eyes, biting the blood bag. “That wolf isn’t so dumb after all…”
I turned my head and sipped my milk, feeling guilty: “I shouldn’t have become Mo Ming’s master.”
“The Wolf God Clan is a guardian clan, so the choice of a master is more important than being the clan leader. Don’t feel guilty, he’s happy about it.” Although Jiang Yan said this, his tone was strange, almost mocking.
I remained silent. Mo Ming gave up the position of clan leader to become my guardian, and I was still picking on him. What right did I have to complain about him?
“Why are you suddenly asking about William? Is it… is he more handsome?” Jiang Yan couldn’t resist being frivolous when he had a bit of energy.
I ignored him: “I think Mao Mao likes him.”
“Oh?!” Jiang Yan suddenly perked up. “Mao Mao has good taste! What about Lao Qing?”
I looked at him: “You’ve noticed too?”
Jiang Yan narrowed his eyes while sucking on the blood bag: “Yeah… Lao Qing doesn’t talk much. That’s not good. If Mao Mao really shaves his fur, he’ll probably be a beautiful woman.”
“Then what should we do?!” I suddenly became anxious.
Jiang Yan slurped the blood: “Freedom of love, we can’t interfere~~~” He shrugged helplessly and stretched languidly, lying down on the roof. The starlight covered him with a thin, hazy blanket of light.
I looked up at the stars and moon, homesick.
“By the way, Jiang Yan, have you made any progress on the pendant I asked you to look at?” I asked, looking at the stars.
He didn’t speak for a long time. I lowered my head to look at him; he had his hands behind his head, seemingly lost in thought.
“Jiang Yan?” I nudged his leg with my foot.
He came back to his senses, his eyes flickering in the moonlight, then looked away: “I don’t know.”
I narrowed my eyes: “Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to know?”
He frowned: “I really don’t know.”
Looking at his unyielding face, I squinted. I decided to pester him relentlessly, wear him down! If all else failed, I’d seduce him! Uh… seduction probably wouldn’t work on Jiang Yan. He was practically a god, what beautiful woman hasn’t he seen? Then… blood temptation!
I slowly rolled up my sleeve, crawled over to him, and he immediately widened his green eyes. The vigilance and tension in them were like he was guarding against me molesting him.
“Hey…” I smiled mischievously, extending my arm towards him, “Jiang Yan~~~ Fresh blood~~~ Come on~~~ Take a bite, it’s good for your skin~~~”
His green pupils contracted instantly. He sat up abruptly, pushed my hand away, and pressed his hand to his forehead in distress: “You’re going to be the death of me!” His choked, hoarse voice seemed to be suppressing something.
I crawled back: “Jiang Yan~~~”
Suddenly, he turned sharply. As his arm reached for my shoulder, he pressed me down onto the roof. I saw only the stars and moon in my eyes, and his other ice-cold hand gripped my chin, turning my head to expose my neck. He pressed down on me, his heavy body tightly against mine. I could clearly feel his rapid breathing against my neck, a little hot, a little itchy.
My heart stopped. I was completely unprepared for this sudden turn of events because I had only prepared myself for him possibly biting my arm.
“What secret is so important that you’re willing to sacrifice your own blood…” His hoarse, coughing voice brushed against my neck. My heart pounded violently in my chest. I turned my head away and closed my eyes tightly: “It’s a very important truth!”
“The truth in the Immortal Realm… knowing it isn’t necessarily a good thing…” He slowly released me. I frowned and slowly opened my eyes. He pulled me up and gazed at the night sky again, his eyes vacant.
I glanced at him stealthily and touched my face: “You scared me.”
“I’m warning you.” He picked up the blood bag and put it to his mouth. “Even I have limits to my patience. Next time, I won’t let you go.”
“I’m willing!” I stared at him, my face flushed, my gaze firm. He turned his head, slightly surprised. I looked at him seriously: “As long as you tell me the truth!”
His green eyes held a burning gaze.
