ASDP Chapter 61

State of Treatment for Werewolf Symptoms

“My name is Alice. From today onwards, I’m your big sister.”
The two children looked confused when they were suddenly declared to have a big sister. Yes. I thought that’s what would happen.
However, when someone says it so confidently and proudly, it’s hard to say anything different. Especially since Alice is a beautiful girl with striking red hair. There’s no way they’d be able to dislike her based on her appearance.
“And this is Amelia. She’s my sister and I’m closer to her, you know? But I have no choice so I’ll lend her to you two for now.”
“I’m not your sister, so don’t confuse the children. She’s the Saint Alice. And she’s the Priestess Sylphia. They’ll be living in the same building as us for a while.”
Oliver, the older brother, nodded at what I said. His younger sister had heard what I was saying, but because she was too young, she looked up at me in confusion, not really understanding.

“Until your monsterization is cured, you will sleep together in my room at night and will not be allowed to leave the room alone.”
“Not allowed?”
“You may not go out unless you are with me. If you want to go out to use the bathroom or something, you have to be with me. Once the treatment for monsterization is over, you can go out on your own, but until then, you can’t.”
“Is it okay if I’m with you?”
“Yes. You can go out if you come with me. But you must follow my instructions until you are cured. And so must your sister, Rosie. If you cannot do that, there is no way to cure you of your monsterification.”
Technically, they would die before they could be cured of their demonization, so they had no choice but to comply.
But how can I get my point across to them?

“You will spend the day with my grandfather… the doctor at the clinic. You must do what the doctor says. You must not do anything on your own. Can you do that?”
I don’t know how to handle small children.
So I’m a little worried because I don’t know how much they understand.
Just as I was feeling a bit confused, Sylphia suddenly squatted down next to me.
“If you don’t want to die, you must do as Amelia says.”
“Die?”
“Yes. If you cannot do what she said, I will kill you two.”
In response to death threats, Oliver hugs Rosie protectively.
“Mom told me to protect Rosie.”
“If you don’t want to die, then protect her. If you don’t understand something, then be sure to ask Amelia. If you want to live.”
Sylphia, who looked the children in the eye and spoke to them, must know how to treat them. Rosie just looked worried, but Oliver nodded with a serious look on his face.

“…I’m sorry for making you say such unpleasant things. Thank you.”
“It’s for Lady Alice’s sake. Children do things that adults can’t imagine. So even if we have to scare them, we need to make them understand that they shouldn’t go outside alone, otherwise Lady Amelia will have a hard time.”
Sylphia, who has been thrown into a frenzy by Alice’s unexpected actions, is saying things with a sense of reality. Besides, there must be young orphans at the temple, so she probably knows more about children than I do.
I don’t want to scare them, but for now I need to make sure they follow the rule of not leaving their room under any circumstances. The measures to prevent them from escaping at night are physical, and are in place in case they turn into monsters. But with children, it doesn’t matter if they turn into monsters, they might still try to go outside because of their lack of understanding. If that happens, it could result in more injuries than necessary.

After making sure the kids understood, I took them to my grandfather in the examination room.
After consulting with my grandfather, we decided to have the children taste some of the honey my father had brought, which contains nectar from flowers, to numb the sense of taste. After confirming that they had lost their sense of taste, we would have them drink about one-sixth the amount that an adult woman would normally drink at the clinic, and observe their condition for around an hour.
If there are no signs of any sudden changes, I will take them to my house and observe their condition. If they show any severe side effects, I will give them an antidote, and once their condition has stabilized, I will give them a smaller amount of medicine.
I also decided to use the glasses to keep a detailed record of things like magical powers.

“Sis, is this okay?”
“Yes. I’ll just check.”
I asked the two of them to take off everything but their underwear, and together with my grandfather, I checked their bodies. When I looked at their arms, I thought they were hairy, but when I took off their clothes, it was obvious that the amount and length of their body hair was different from human characteristics. From the neck down, they were covered with so much hair that you couldn’t see the skin. The hair on the stomach side was lighter in pigment and appeared to be less in quantity than on the back, but it was still clearly different from that of a human.
Also, the long tuft of hair around the tailbone is probably a tail. It wasn’t very long, so it was hidden inside the clothes, but it was very different from human characteristics.
However, the overall skeleton does not seem to deviate from that of a human. It is unclear whether this is because it is before the transformation, or if this shape is that of a werewolf’s skeleton. When a person remembers a monster, their body generally becomes larger than a normal individual. If this is the case, it is highly likely that as the monsterization progresses, the body will become a little larger, and the skeleton will become misshapen from a human’s perspective.

It’s true that the transformation into a monster has progressed, but if you think about it that way, you can say that they haven’t become monsters yet, not just in terms of reason but also in terms of their bodies. The question is to what extent it can be reversed.
Through the glasses, the magical construction organ was clearly enlarged, and the joints that had been visible with Theo were now more clearly visible.
“Grandpa, you can see the blockage of magical power in the magic node more clearly than you could with Theo, right?”
“That’s right. The enlargement of the magical energy construction organs seems to be greater than Theo and Alfie’s. Whether that’s because they’re children or because of the progress of the transformation into monsters is still unclear, but it seems highly likely that the blockage of the magical nodes and the enlargement of the magical energy construction organs are proportional.”
Because the number of cases is so small, it is dangerous to jump to any conclusions. This is still at the hypothesis stage.
However, both Oliver and Rosie are showing clear symptoms of an enlarged magical energy construction organ and a blockage in their magical nodes. It is highly likely that their bodies are trying to create magical energy to flush out this blockage, causing the magical energy construction organ to swell. It is difficult to tell by palpation due to the hair, but it feels hard. Their body temperatures are also higher than normal, as if they are running a fever, but it is unclear whether this is due to their progression towards monsterization, or because they are turning into werewolves. With Theo and Alfie, it seemed as if their magical energy construction organs were hot, but their entire bodies were not in a feverish state.

“What makes you think the increased body temperature is due to werewolf form?”
“My dad once told me that dogs have a higher body temperature than humans. I thought that might be the reason why they have higher body temperatures, since they have fur. But don’t undead creatures seem to have a much lower body temperature? Well, I’ve never actually measured it though.”
While occasionally exchanging opinions with my grandfather, I wrote down their symptoms on paper.
If you keep detailed records, it will be easier to see any changes in symptoms after the medication is taken.
Oliver weighs 20kg and Rosie weighs 13kg. They’re not that different from humans, so we decide to start with the same amount of medicine as my grandfather had initially prescribed.
I would like to discuss more, but it would be boring for a child, and we have to separate treatment and research, so once we’ve finalized the dosage, we quickly stop the discussion and put clothes on them.

The taste-numbing honey my father brought me looked just like regular honey, but when I scooped it up in my spoon it was a beautiful amber color.
“You two, eat this first.”
“Wow. Sweet.”
Little Rosie seemed to like the taste as well, and licked the spoon happily.
I had been told that the sense of taste would be lost soon, so I had the patient bite into a lemon five minutes later to check whether or not the sense of taste had been lost.
“It doesn’t taste good, and it doesn’t smell good.”
They also seemed to be losing their sense of smell, as they kept rubbing their noses.
“Do you feel like your nose is going to run?”
“Well, my nose isn’t stuffy, but the strange smell in this room has gone away.”
The strange smell is probably that of disinfectant.
Since it was a werewolf symptom, it’s possible that they were more sensitive than humans, but there’s no doubt that they disappeared. So we tell the two of them not to spit it out under any circumstances and gives them medicine.

Judging from the color, it looked disgusting at first, so Rosie was hesitant, but Oliver drank it all up as an example, and when he urged Rosie to drink it too, she gulped it down.
“What about the taste?”
“It has no taste, like water.”
“Rosie is hungry.”
Oliver gave his honest feedback, but after drinking it all, Rosie was holding her stomach and looking downcast. …She hadn’t eaten anything since her lunch bread, after all.
It seems the medicine stimulated her appetite.
However, it won’t taste good if her sense of taste doesn’t return. I wish I had fed her first, but I don’t know if she’ll take her medicine when she’s not hungry. I’m especially suspicious of little Rosie. I think she took it because she’s hungry now.

“Let’s eat once you can taste and smell it.”
Although I knew that timing the administration of medication was difficult for a child, the fact that they had taken it was a step forward in treatment.
