SC Chapter36

Immediately after the white-clothed person finished speaking, two more people followed and carried in a crate. The heavy black wooden box thumped onto the ground. When it was opened, a pile of gold ingots from inside was revealed.

“What do you think, Boss Xiao?” The white-clothed person said softly.

Xiao Ning’s fingers dug deep grooves into the staircase railing. He didn’t spare a glance for the wooden box, only staring intently at the white-clothed person wearing the veil. After a long moment, he suppressed his pounding heart, forcing himself to calm down, and said, “May I ask what business you wish to discuss?”

The white-clothed person said, “Someone came to Boss Xiao last month to change their appearance. We are under orders to investigate, and we need Boss Xiao’s cooperation to draw their current appearance.”

Xiao Ning descended the stairs and walked closer step by step. He lowered his gaze to look at the white-clothed person intently. He stopped when only one step separated them, saying, “If you don’t show your true face, what business is there to discuss?”

The attendants accompanying the white-clothed person rested their hands on the curved sabers at their waists, immediately radiating killing intent. Then he raised his pale, slender hand slightly, signaling the attendants to restrain the killing intent. The white-clothed person reached up and gripped the veil. The white veil then fluttered, allowing the black hair to flow. Beneath the veil, a clear, beautiful, and refined face was revealed.

“Is this enough sincerity?”

A line of red appeared at the corner of Xiao Ning’s eye. The room was dead silent. After a long time, he first closed his eyes and laughed softly, and then the laughter grew louder and louder. His body swayed, bordering on madness.

The white-clothed person only watched him, frowning after a while, thinking to himself: The legendary Ghost Hand of the Xiao Clan is he perhaps a lunatic?

Xiao Ning laughed until he bent over. When he looked up again, his face was both wet and cold. He vigorously rubbed his chin, wiping away his tears, and said in a hoarse voice, “Who are you?”

The white-clothed person did not intend to hide it either and simply pulled out the dark gold plaque from his waist, saying, “Tianyi Division is on official business.”

“Tianyi Division… Shen Guan?” Xiao Ning’s tone was full of sarcasm, his eyes reflecting an indescribable weariness and desolation.

Shen Guan was slightly surprised: “You know me?”

Xiao Ning looked into Shen Guan’s eyes, a pair of eyes that were etched into his heart from those midnight dreams, once filled with gentle affection. But now, Shen Guan’s eyes were as still as a pool of stagnant water, they were cold and unfeeling. Xiao Ning suddenly felt a surge of absurdity. He wasn’t even sure if the Shen Yunjie of the past had been a dream. Now that the dream had ended, the person standing before him was the ever-cold Shen Guan.

“I’ve heard the name for a long time.” Xiao Ning pressed his chest, his face as pale as paper.

Shen Guan said, “Since Boss Xiao is willing to cooperate, let’s begin.” He lightly clapped his hands. His attendants quickly laid out brushes, ink, paper, and an inkstone before Xiao Ning.

Xiao Ning looked at Shen Guan with cold eyes, the edges of his eyes blood-red, as his heart filled with grief. He raised a finger and flicked the inkstone, splashing ink all over the paper on the table.

“Who said I was willing? The Xiao Clan never reveals the appearance of its clients. That’s the martial arts world rule.”
