She wasn’t like a flower.
Yun Chu thought, under Jian You’s touch, she wasn’t a ravaged or delicate flower. She was the spring rain itself, drizzling on the lush grass. In the birth of all things, she saw the light of hope. Under Jian You’s tireless watering, the world bloomed with flowers.
She was the rain, and she was also drenched by the rain.
When it was all over, she lay panting in Jian You’s arms as if she had been fished out of water, hoping Jian You would share with her the oxygen she needed to live. Jian You kissed her, and a continuous stream of vitality was passed over.
She died, and then she came back to life.
In the dead silence, she finally found her voice. “Teacher Jian, my parents have something for you.” She struggled out of Jian You’s embrace, but before she could stand up, her legs gave out and she knelt back down. She shot Jian You a resentful look and muttered, “You’re too ruthless.”
Jian You licked her dry lips, forced herself to look away, then remembered that this person was hers anyway, so she looked back again, taking her fill.
Yun Chu had been thoroughly tormented by her. Her nightdress was a mess, the hem was wet with the saliva she had left when Jian You had made her hold it in her mouth. It had slid down Yun Chu’s snow-white legs, sticky, making one want to make her even more disheveled.
Yun Chu noticed her gaze and quickly straightened her clothes. “Look at the things first!”
Jian You sat up, finally shifting her attention. “Auntie and Uncle brought something for me?”
“Yes.” Yun Chu dragged her suitcase out of the walk-in closet. “My parents said that Teacher Jian is famous and rich. Our family only has a bit of stinking money, so we can only offer some money.”
Jian You laughed in spite of herself. “A bit of stinking money? Is that how you talk about your own family?”
She got out of bed. “You didn’t carry a whole suitcase of cash, did you?”
Yun Chu opened the suitcase. It wasn’t as exaggerated as Jian You had imagined. It contained normal luggage. Then, Yun Chu took out a bag from a hidden compartment, and from the bag, she took out several small booklets.
Jian You asked, “What are these?”
Yun Chu: “Property deeds.”
Jian You: “???”
Yun Chu was a little embarrassed. “Our family used to have a fishpond in the Xiaxi District of Yunzhou. Later, it was developed and demolished, and we were compensated with houses and money. My parents took the money and went north to do business. These property deeds are all in my name. They are all my dowry for you!”
Jian You: “…”
Yun Chu took out a bank card from her bag. “This has the money I’ve earned from my restaurant over the years. It’s not a lot. The big money all went to Zhou Zhitao for stock trading. She’s very good at it.”
Jian You: “………”
Yun Chu cupped her face. “Teacher Jian, can I take you home now?”
Jian You blinked. “Don’t take me home.”
Yun Chu tilted her head.
Jian You: “You should keep me.”
Yun Chu: “?”
Jian You held back a laugh. “Hide me in a little villa. You have to come and keep me company every day, buy me food and clothes, coax me and spoil me. If I say east, you can’t go west.”
Yun Chu: “…How is this different from the ‘kept’ I imagined? Does any kept lover treat their sugar mommy like this?”
Jian You let out a long “mhm.” “I do.”
Yun Chu straddled her, her warmth pressing against Jian You’s coolness. She kissed Jian You’s lips softly and whispered, “Teacher Jian, you’re so cold. Are you cold?”
Jian You wrapped her arms around her waist. “Then warm me up.”
Yun Chu wrapped her arms around Jian You’s neck and buried her face in her collarbone. “I want to keep you too, Teacher Jian. I’m so infatuated with you that I’m all mixed up. I want to fool around with you in bed all day and have no mind for work. But your fans would tear me to shreds!”
Jian You laughed softly.
She nibbled lightly on her delicate skin. “Why are you so good to me?”
“Because I like you.”
“Then what if you don’t like me anymore in the future? What will I do?”
The words came out almost instinctively, with no room for retraction. The moment they landed, Jian You regretted it. She didn’t want Yun Chu to see her insecurity and panic. These uncertainties shouldn’t exist in their relationship. Just as she was about to change the subject, Yun Chu had already lifted her head.
She was still cupping her face.
Yun Chu seemed to really like this position. The two of them were very close, their warm breaths intertwining. They could see their own reflections in each other’s pupils. Yun Chu looked at her, and her gaze made Jian You’s heart race.
Many people said she was aloof, that she was composed, that she was always unfazed.
But in love, she was also a coward. Being stared at like this by Yun Chu, she would blush, she would want to look away, her heart would pound uncontrollably.
But Yun Chu wouldn’t let her move an inch.
“That day will never come,” Yun Chu said, then laughed self-deprecatingly. “I know forever is too far away, and I don’t know if my promise now will last forever, but I still want to say, I will love you forever.”
She didn’t care how far away forever was. This was her true heart at this moment, and this moment was forever.
Jian You’s eyes flickered. She grabbed her wrist and flipped her onto the bed. She was moved by Yun Chu’s words, so moved that she had to do something to calm the fluctuations in her heart. So she said, “Baby, one more time, okay?”
Yun Chu had no chance to refuse and could only reflect amidst the tossing and turning: She should never have taught Jian You to call her baby!
Yun Chu slept soundly and sweetly. She was woken up by Jian You. She opened her mouth and found that her voice was hoarse. She gave Jian You an annoyed pat and still gave her a good morning kiss.
“I bought your favorite mini wontons.” Jian You stroked her hair. Her bangs had grown a little long, and she had tied them up on her forehead with a small elastic band, like a little apple. “I talked to Wen Yi. Although she was very shocked, she was able to accept it after a night.”
Yun Chu yawned and asked her, “Did she find it very strange?”
“It was alright,” Jian You said.
Wen Yi had just been stunned for two minutes before blurting out, “No wonder you’re so different with her.” Then she let out an “ah.” “So when I was sleeping downstairs, you two were upstairs-”
Her worldview was shattered again. She went to buy the mini wontons in a daze.
Jian You nodded again. “She didn’t find it strange.”
The weather today was surprisingly good. The winter sun was bright and warm. Yun Chu, wrapped in Jian You’s Bei City Film Academy down jacket, sat in the courtyard, eating her wontons in small bites. Halfway through, she suddenly remembered, “Teacher Jian, I have this down jacket too!”
Jian You: “Mhm.”
After all, it was a school uniform.
Yun Chu was delighted. “So we were wearing couple’s outfits so long ago!”
Jian You: “…That’s not an incorrect way to put it.”
They were about to go to Jian You’s studio for a script reading. Wen Yi didn’t need to prepare lunch. She was currently busy in the small vegetable garden she had cleared out in the courtyard. She heard their conversation and couldn’t help but glance at Jian You.
She thought, this is quite nice.
She rarely paid attention to things online, so she saw more of the everyday Jian You. Jian You loved this little courtyard. Every blade of grass, every tree, every detail had been personally supervised by her. Here, she could completely relax, pet her cat, play with her dog, and live like a normal person.
But after Yun Chu came, everything changed.
Jian You was like a calm, ancient well. Neither stones nor flying birds could attract her attention. But a flower had bloomed from the bottom of this well, passing through the calm water, growing towards the sun.
Jian You had also become lively and cute.
Meanwhile, Yun Chu finished the last sip of her soup, feeling warm from her feet to her hands. She listened for any sounds from next door. She thought she could faintly hear something, so she simply asked Jian You where the ladder was, moved it, and climbed the wall.
The higher she climbed, the clearer she could hear. It sounded like the TV.
Yun Chu didn’t rush to peek over. She listened carefully again. This time, she was sure it was the TV. After listening for a couple more seconds, she indeed heard her own voice.
Once she was sure, Yun Chu carefully climbed onto the top of the wall. As if afraid of startling the old lady, she called out in a small voice, “Grandma.”
In the courtyard next door, Ding Linping was doing her morning exercises. There was a tablet on the table, which was playing The You I First Met. From this angle, it looked like a supercut of just Yun Chu’s scenes.
The old lady was still startled. She subconsciously closed the tablet. “You dead girl, climbing other people’s walls again!”
“Grandma, are you watching the drama I acted in?” Yun Chu’s eyes were sparkling. “Don’t you look down on TV dramas? You’re so old, why are you still playing the ‘saying one thing but meaning another’ game!”
“What are you talking about? Who’s old?” Ding Linping put her hands on her hips and looked up to scold her. “When did you get back? You never use the front door. Believe it or not, I’ll call the police and have you arrested!”
Just as she finished speaking, another head popped up over the ladder.
Ding Linping: “!!!”
Yun Chu had already seen Jian You climb up. She happily introduced her to Ding Linping. “I came back last night and stayed at Teacher Jian’s place. You know Teacher Jian, right? She’s my girlfriend!”
Ding Linping: “…”
Jian You: “Hello, Grandma.”
Ding Linping looked at Jian You. “So you’re the one dating my granddaughter?”
Jian You: “I am.”
Ding Linping: “You’re prettier than my granddaughter. What do you see in her?”
Jian You: “Yun Chu is cute.”
Ding Linping: “What else?”
Jian You: “Many other things.”
Yun Chu: “…Can you two not have a private chat in a group chat? I’m still hanging on the wall! And Grandma, you should answer my question too. Why are you secretly watching the drama I acted in!”
“Who’s watching you!” The old lady’s eyebrows shot up. She grabbed a slipper that was drying nearby and threw it at them.
Yun Chu and Jian You quickly ducked their heads and scrambled down the ladder as fast as they could. The slipper landed right next to Liuyue, who was playing with Ludeng in the courtyard. Startled, Liuyue started barking and running around the courtyard.
Yun Chu thought, since she had already been hit, she might as well say what was on her mind. “Grandma, don’t get so angry! Grandma, you love me, don’t deny it! I even saw that you shared my post on your Moments, but blocked me! You told everyone to watch the drama I acted in! You stubborn old lady!”
Ding Linping cursed, “Did your dad show you that? I’m blocking him right now!”
And so, on that chaotic morning, Yun Chu’s father earned a spot on his own mother’s block list.
