逆转 (Reverse) – 莲鹤夫人

Chapter 4

“Reverse?” The alpha paused mid-motion as he removed the pen cap, then said quietly, “That’s a bold claim.”

“But it fits, doesn’t it?” His friend laughed. “All right, speed things up over there. We’ve already begun drafting the bill here.”

The alpha laughed briefly and mockingly. “So, what is it—a law stating that an alpha’s decision while in rut is completely not valid?”

“It’s not really that cruel.” his friend responded casually. “But when an omega is in that state, you’ll do anything they say. It’s still something we need to watch out for. I mean, think about it—if your omega told you to jump off a building back then, you’d probably just do it.”

The alpha ignored the insult and shook his head, “Let’s not rush into this. When plans aimed at omega heat cycles were proposed, they were changed thirty-four times. It went on until the Human Rights Association got involved, got people in many different areas to support them, and put pressure on the government. Only then did something barely pass.”

His friend scowled, “That’s because those old bastards were so stubborn! Saying things like, “If an omega gets fucked during heat, they have to marry the alpha who marked them.” Have they ever considered rape or other extreme situations? To make it worse, they say a mark can simply be removed—where does that kind of old bullshit even come from?”

“So?” the alpha countered, “The moment the reverse virus emerges, a bill aimed at alpha rut becomes law right away, and there’s no attempt to make the bill better. Aren’t you scared people will accuse you of having double standards?”

His friend was choked up.

“H-how is that the same thing?!” he yelled in anger. “We alphas succeed in all fields! If someone with ulterior motives takes advantage of this, the consequences will be horrific, alright?! Of course, alphas like you and me don’t get pressured by omegas or their families. But what about alphas who aren’t like us? Don’t they deserve rights too?!”

The alpha calmly answered, “I don’t even want to start pointing out how many logical flaws there are in your argument. Maybe your perspective represents 95% of alphas, but I doubt that 5% of omegas would agree with you.”

“Omega opinions have never really been relevant to mainstream society,” his friend said softly, his tone becoming sarcastic. “They are a small minority, after all…”

“And betas?” the alpha looked up, his eyes cold, “Your point is that omegas’ opinions have never been heard in society, mainly because most of the power is held by alphas like yourself and me. But who makes up the majority of the ABO population? Did you forget?”

His friend fell silent.

The alpha went on, “In the last few years, mainstream talk has started to see omega views as a force that can’t be ignored. The most basic explanation is that the alphas have so much more power and influence than the other two. There are a lot of betas. They don’t say much and don’t stand out, but they’re showing more empathy for omegas and are more likely to advocate for them on social issues. Right now, everybody is following the reverse virus situation. If the government passes a law quickly, it will only get negative feedback from everyone, even if it’s just for show. Haven’t you thought about that?”

After a long period of silence, his friend finally clicked his tongue and said, “Tsk. My rut just ended a few days ago, and my brain’s still messed up. Alright, alright—I see your point. I’ll go talk to those people about it.”

“You—” the alpha said before suddenly cutting off.

The omega, fully clothed, stood in his line of sight. He wore his shirt buttoned up to the collar. He had obviously just stepped out of the shower since his face was pale, his lips were red and puffy, and his hair was still wet. He was about to knock when he unexpectedly locked eyes with the alpha’s emotionless stare.

“We’ll talk again later.” The alpha hung up. Wearing nothing but a towel around his waist, he quickly tackled the piled-up work in front of him. Seeing his wife standing there was like facing a familiar stranger.

His feelings towards the omega were, in fact, conflicted.

He was the right age, and his status and circumstances demanded him to have a top-tier, obedient, marked partner at home. The omega’s family needed political protection. So the arrangement came to be. This omega, who was so much younger than him, had likely fantasized about love and affection in the early days of their marriage. He could tell. Of course, he could. Tragically, all he needed was a pressure valve: a pet. A bird in a cage, a cat in his lap—anything would do. Whether it was the omega obediently licking the back of his hand when he felt like it, or the satisfaction of watching tears trickle down his face, eyes rimmed bright red as he cried and begged pitifully—it all satisfied his appetite for control and destruction. That was enough. Wasn’t that what omegas were supposed to do?

After he collected himself and gave it some serious thought, the alpha was taken aback by his wife’s actions.

When in heat, both alphas and omegas are more than ten times more sensitive to pheromones. And yet, throughout the six long days of his heat, what he felt from his wife was nothing but kindness—and a level of tolerance that bordered on love… No. Not love. Love wasn’t the right word. He gave it a quick thought. That emotion was better described as pity.

“You arrived just in time.” the alpha said with a relaxed tone.

An omega feeling pity for an alpha?

“There are still some things I need to warn you about.”

It was quite amusing to see how naive he was.

“The virus may have effects that last for a long time. During those times, remember your place. Whatever things were like before—keep them that way now. Don’t start demanding things that you know you can’t have. Do you understand?”

The omega’s lips trembled faintly. He stayed quiet for a long time, then softly answered, almost whispering, “…I understand, sir.”
