HPMC Chapter 25

What's There to Fear About Scheming?

Having figured out Wu Hui’s background, Mu Zirun returned to Yu Tianze’s side and recounted everything he had learned, truthfully and without exaggeration.

Yu Tianze picked up the last piece of boneless fish with his chopsticks, ate it, and nodded. “Understood.”

Seeing the Peak Master’s expression, Mu Zirun knew the man hadn’t taken the matter to heart. He considered the situation and realized that Wu Hui seemed petty enough to complain as soon as he returned home. He didn’t know what kind of person the brother, Wu Yao, was, but judging by how much he doted on Wu Hui, he would likely cause trouble.

However, everyone here was a disciple of the Zhenggang Immortal Sect. Since his Peak Master was being promoted from a subsidiary sect, he would certainly enter the inner sect directly. If he proved strong enough, he could even compete for a core disciple spot. Wu Yao was merely a core candidate; even with a deep foundation, he probably wouldn’t openly oppose a Nascent Soul cultivator. Yet, they would only know for sure after entering the main sect and learning its explicit and implicit rules.

Yu Tianze watched the little brat calmly picking fish bones and somehow knew the boy was still scheming. He pursed his lips and lightly slapped Mu Zirun on the head. “What are you afraid of? By the time that guy breaks through to the Nascent Soul stage, I might have broken through again. Eat in peace.”

Mu Zirun was taken aback, then chuckled. “What the Peak Master says is true… the Peak Master will surely break through first, and my life will be in the Peak Master’s hands from now on.”

Yu Tianze glanced at him and snorted coldly. “It has been in my hands for a long time.”

Mu Zirun found the response amusing. “Yes, yes, the Peak Master is right.”

After their meal, the two stayed at the inn for several days. The innkeeper had initially worried that Wu Hui would return to demand compensation, but when he saw that the troublesome Nascent Soul cultivator remained comfortably in residence even after learning of Wu Hui’s background, he breathed a sigh of relief. However, his wariness of Yu Tianze increased; sometimes, fearlessness wasn’t recklessness—it was pure confidence.

Three days later, Wu Hui still hadn’t appeared. Yu Tianze calculated that the internal exchange meeting of the nine immortal sects should be over, meaning they could finally head to the main sect. It was a pity, though; he had originally planned to beat Wu Hui up again if the boy sent more people, but that seemed unlikely now. Some matters would simply have to be dealt with once they arrived at the Zhenggang Immortal Sect.

Once the decision was made, Yu Tianze didn’t dawdle. He had Mu Zirun pay the bill, then whistled to summon the Thunder Eagle King. The two of them and the eagle flew straight toward the Zhenggang Immortal Sect.

The City Lord’s Mansion

In the living room of the inner courtyard of the city lord’s mansion, the arrogant young master, whose head was just beginning to sprout new hair, paced the room in a fit of rage.

“Father! Why won’t you let me go and settle accounts with that scoundrel?” he shouted. “He dared to shave my head in public and almost killed me! He made me lose face and showed you no respect! How can I just cower here in the manor?”

Sitting cross-legged nearby was a middle-aged cultivator with a long beard and a refined air. He spoke calmly. “What nonsense are you spouting? If that person’s cultivation far surpasses yours and he really wanted to kill you, would he have missed? It was a warning. Think about it: if he were alone, how would he dare treat you like that? It is one thing for you to cause minor trouble, but if you cause a true disaster, even I cannot protect you. Your life would be over.” He sighed deeply. “In the past, I would have personally taken you to apologize…”

The young master’s eyes widened. “Father, you still want to apologize? I don’t want to—”

“Shut up!” The middle-aged cultivator snapped, annoyed by the noise. “I said ‘in the past’! He shaved your head, which made me lose face as well, so there is no need for an apology. Just do not provoke him further. It is better to avoid trouble. Even if he has no powerful background, his strength alone makes him an enemy you shouldn’t make out of thin air.”

The young master remained unconvinced. He turned toward the door. “Father, you’re a coward!”

The middle-aged cultivator slammed his hand on the table. “How dare you talk to your father like that—wait!” As the boy tried to bolt, a white light burst from the father’s hand, wrapping around the young man’s ankle and dragging him back. “Don’t even think about going to your brother. He is at a crucial moment, having just participated in the ranking tournament. Do you want to jeopardize his status as a core candidate? You are nothing but a headache!”

Hearing this, the young master reluctantly quieted down. “I won’t go looking for my brother, then…”

The father stroked his beard again. “If you are bored, I will open another restaurant in a few days so you can have some fun.”

The young master turned his face away and snorted.

ZhengGang City

The Zhenggang Immortal Sect was located in a vast territory in the southeast, encompassing tens of thousands of acres. Over time, the convergence of people had formed a massive city that led directly to the sect.

The skies above the city were sealed. No one was allowed to fly freely unless they possessed a city entry order, a disciple token, or were a peerless expert above the Mahayana stage. Since Yu Tianze was neither of those things, he had Lei Huang land in front of the city gate. Though he was proud, he would not break the fundamental rules of the land.

Mu Zirun looked around with wide eyes. Having lived at the Jiuyang Sect, he found this place far superior. The city was so large it reminded him of the major economic hubs he had seen from airplanes in his previous life. While it lacked modern technology, it possessed a magical, majestic quality unique to the world of cultivators.

Yu Tianze had never been to Zhenggang City in his previous life. Because of his former master’s interference, his status had never reached the heights a genius deserved, preventing him from attending major events here. He pushed those memories aside. Though he hadn’t been to this specific city, he was well-traveled and knowledgeable. He patted Mu Zirun on the shoulder. “Let’s go.”

Mu Zirun paid the entrance fee at the gate. The guards, who were used to seeing powerful cultivators arrive on foot due to the flight ban, recognized the purple-clad Yu Tianze as a Nascent Soul expert and did not dare cause trouble.

Once inside, Yu Tianze noticed his country bumpkin companion looking around with great curiosity. He frowned slightly but allowed a quick stroll around the city. They mapped out the street layout and visited several shops to buy necessary utensils and clothes.

Finally, they arrived at the City Lord’s Mansion. Because the city was a vital gateway, the elders guarding it were powerful and far too busy to meet a new arrival personally. After Yu Tianze delivered his letter of invitation, a respected steward named Yao appeared to entertain him. The process was efficient. After confirming his identity, Yu Tianze received an entry token, an identity plaque, and a wisp of “immortal fire smoke” for communication.

Without further ado, Yu Tianze led Mu Zirun to the wilderness behind the city, standing before the gates of the Zhenggang Immortal Sect. Towering mountains rose before them, fronted by cloud ladders that stretched into the sky. Tiny black dots—people hoping to join the sect—struggled to climb them.

These struggles had nothing to do with Yu Tianze. He didn’t even glance at the climbers. He simply raised his hand and ignited the Immortal Fire Smoke. A dazzling streak of light shot into the sky with a loud bang.

Moments later, a lean, capable cultivator with flowing sleeves appeared on a flying sword, hurtling through the air toward them.

“Who released the immortal fire smoke?” the cultivator asked hurriedly. “Was it a disciple from a mid-level sect arriving for seclusion?”
