NSFCP Chapter 6

40-48

40.

The military training for the freshmen only lasted two weeks, but the training programs were quite monotonous and boring, which was quite exhausting.

At three in the afternoon, the sun was still blazing, and the atmosphere on the training grounds was hot and irritating.

Ten minutes later, a girl suddenly collapsed in the Class 3 line.

The formation scattered in a flash, several people gathered around, and the instructors quickly went over.

This instructor was the toughest one in the sports department. He really doesn’t treat these college students like flowers. Not to mention, even in the sports department, they weren’t all male; there were also quite a few female students.

This morning, while practicing body rotations, a boy from Class 3 kept making mistakes; it was unclear whether he was deliberately causing trouble or genuinely couldn’t distinguish left from right.

The instructor assumed he was deliberately causing trouble and punished the entire third platoon by making them stand at attention for a full hour.

This afternoon, after standing at attention again, one of them collapsed.

When Zhou Mengyu arrived, he saw the girl fall onto Liang Pei. Liang Pei’s bros were tightly furrowed, and although his expression was one of resistance, he still reached out to catch the girl.

The girl was tall and stood in the row behind Liang Pei; she really didn’t intentionally lean on Liang Pei

41.

Zhou Mengyu and 190[mfn]At this point, I really don’t know if they keep calling him 190 because of his height or if it’s because it’s his actual name, so I’ll just keep referring to him as 190.[/mfn] next to him were both startled and quickly went over.

Liang Pei handed the girl to 190 and stood next to Zhou Mengyu with an utterly innocent expression.

The scene was chaotic, and no one really noticed this small detail.

While everyone was filled with fear, the instructor spoke up, “Wake up. In previous years, some girls would pretend to faint to avoid military training. I advise you not to use that trick on me.”

A moment of silence followed. The girl’s eyes were tightly closed, and her lips were pale. 190 glanced at the instructor, muttered “Damn it,” and, avoiding the instructor’s outstretched hand. carried the girl directly to the school clinic.

Zhou Mengyu was also provoked by these words, but he still spoke in an even tone: “Instructor, they are just students, they can’t be compared to soldiers, they need to be given a break.”

Whether the instructor was genuinely worried or not, he waved and gave everyone a break.

42.

Class 3 finally had a chance to rest for a while. Zhou Mengyu was still shaken, and his heart was pounding.

He didn’t dare give Liang Pei the ice water in his hand, saying, “When your body is feeling hot, you shouldn’t drink anything too cold. Where’s your own water cup?”

Liang Pei’s gaze was fixed on Zhou Mengyu’s wrist.

Fine droplets of water condensed on the mineral bottle from the alternating hot and cold temperatures, sliding down Zhou Mengyu’s wrist.

Zhou Mengyu didn’t notice his gaze. His beautiful and delicate brows furrowed, and he whispered in Liang Pei’s ear, “You’re so unlucky. I’ve been doing military training for three years, including my own and the freshmen’s, and this is the first time I’ve encountered such an inhuman instructor. How are you? Are you feeling unwell?”

He asked a question, but no one answered.

Zhou Mengyu put some distance between himself and Liang Pei, and he looked into his eyes. “What are you daydreaming about?”

Liang Pei stared at him. “Huh, what did you say? I didn’t hear you.”

“I could practically stick my tongue in your ear, and you still couldn’t hear me! Do you have tinnitus? Oh no, I’ll go get you some Huoxiang Zhengqi Water[mfn]A traditional Chinese medicine for heatstroke[/mfn].” Zhou Mengyu suddenly stood up.

Then suddenly his legs buckled, and he knelt on the ground.

43.

Zhou Mengyu’s vision went black for a moment, then he slowly came back to his senses. Liang Pei wrapped his arms around him, his arms around the back of Zhou Mengyu’s neck. “Zhou Mengyu?”

Zhou Mengyu took a breath and quickly said, “It’s nothing, it’s nothing. I did some things for the Youth League Committee earlier, so I might be a bit tired.”

Liang Pei’s expression wasn’t pleasant, and his tone became unintentionally harsh. “Then why aren’t you heading back to the dorm?”

Zhou Mengyu hesitated, brushing away a slightly damp strand of hair from his ear, feeling oddly guilty, “I just came to see you.”

Liang Pei immediately lost his anger and helped Zhou Mengyu sit on the bleachers.

Zhou Mengyu’s vision had been faintly darkening, and he felt unwell, but he still waved a hand. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’ll just head back to the dorm to lie down for a bit later.” Then he turned his head and randomly called out to someone, “Hey, are you from the student council? Do you have any Huoxiang Zhengqi Water? Give some to Class 3, it’s the middle of the day, don’t let a bunch of them get heatstroke. If that happens, their instructors won’t be responsible, and the teachers will only blame us.”

Zhou Mengyu was actually holding back his anger. Whenever someone fainted, it was a serious matter, even if it was faked. This was a military training ground, not an execution ground. He felt that his instructor was deliberately showing off his power, and he didn’t like him.

He didn’t deliberately lower his voice, and the students from the sports department were handing out Huoxiang Zhengqi Water in a grand manner. The instructor stood under the sun with his hands behind his back and glanced at Zhou Mengyu.

44.

190 came back alone. The girl did suffer from heatstroke and was now resting at the school clinic.

It was normal for some people to suffer from heatstroke; everyone else couldn’t be expected to stop training.

At the instructor’s whistle, Class 3’s squad assembled again.

Liang Pei reached out and touched Zhou Mengyu’s forehead to make sure he was alright before standing up.

Instead of going to the assembly point, he looked down at Zhou Mengyu and said, “Go back to your dorm.”

Zhou Mengyu thought to himself: This little brat, how can he be so disrespectful to his senior! But he really felt unwell, his hands and feet were a little weak, so he could only nod. Not wanting Liang Pei to worry, he forced himself to stand up without using the bleachers for support.

He turned around and took two steps before suddenly fainting.

45.

Another gasp of surprise rippled through the room.

Liang Pei rushed over almost immediately, overtaking 190, who also rushed over.

Everyone watched as Liang Pei swept Zhou Mengyu up in a princess carry.

190 glanced at Liang Pei, who looked back at him.

190 was so frightened that he didn’t dare utter a sound.

Unexpectedly, the instructor grabbed Liang Pei’s arm and said, “It’s training time. Have someone else take this student back. Come back to training.”

“I’ll take him, I’ll be right back,” Liang Pei said.

“Trying to skip training? What’s your name?!” the instructor raised his voice.

“This training isn’t worth my running away from. My name is Liang Pei.” Liang Pei said impatiently.

46.

When Zhou Mengyu opened his eyes, he found himself already in his dormitory.

He let out a soft “sigh,” remembering how he had fainted in front of everyone- how embarrassing! One second, he was worried about others getting heatstroke, and the next, he was the one who fainted. How shameful, Zhou Mengyu!

“Awake? How are you?”

Zhou Mengyu was so startled that he almost jumped out of bed.

Turning his head, he saw that Liang Pei had taken off his military training jacket and was only wearing a camouflage short-sleeved shirt on his upper body. Liang Pei didn’t seem to have gotten much of tan these past few days, but it’s only been three days, and he’ll definitely get a bit darker later, but he’ll definitely look good when he’s tanned.

“Zhou Mengyu,” Liang Pei called out to him.

Zhou Mengyu snapped back to reality and let out a blank “Ah!”

Liang Pei paused for a moment, looked away for a second, then looked at him again. “How are you feeling?”

47.

“I feel a little dizzy…” Zhou Mengyu bowed to xiatian[mfn]Conceding and admitting defeat to summer/the heat. [/mfn], admitting that he was really suffering from heatstroke. He felt like he was burning up all over, reaching out to grab Liang Pei’s hand, and after grabbing it, he immediately pressed it against his forehead. “I think I might have a fever.”

After holding Liang Pei’s hand against his forehead for a while, Zhou Mengyu asked weakly, “Is it burning?”

He was genuinely a bit feverish, his beautiful face now tinged with exhaustion and paleness, looking like a precious, fragile item.

Liang Pei just stared at him, not saying a word.

Staring at him made Zhou Mengyu feel a bit uncomfortable. He released his hand and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Fever.” Liang Pei stood up, threw the wet towel he had just rinsed under the faucet directly onto Zhou Mengyu’s face, and then went to find him some Huoxiang Zhengqi Water.

Zhou Mengyu was stunned by the hit and held the towel, pressing it against his forehead.

How can this child have such a bad temper?

48.

That night, a friend from the student council came to the dorm to see Zhou Mengyu, and only then did Zhou Mengyu learn that Liang Pei had clashed with the instructor earlier.

He had been lying down all afternoon and was already feeling much better, though he still had a bit of weakness; sitting up suddenly still made him a bit dizzy.

“Did he curse at the instructor?”

“It wasn’t really cursing, just that his tone wasn’t very good.”

“Good for him for cursing!” Zhou Mengyu slapped the bedding.

The instructor was just asking for it. He was just being considerate of his position in the student council, so he didn’t dare to yell at him personally; otherwise, he would have yelled at him too. But even after he felt better, he was still worried about Liang Pei. “He didn’t tell me. I also told him to go back to training this afternoon. Did the instructor let him go back?”

“The instructor of Class 3 was brought here after two incidents. The instructor was actually afraid. Besides, the class advisor is on Liang Pei’s side, so there’s no need to worry.”

How could I not be worried! As expected, that advisor has impure intentions! How could this not be worrying!

What if… what if…?

Zhou Mengyu paused for a moment. It seemed there was nothing much to worry about anyway; it was just that the advisor had taken a liking to Liang Pei and they had ended up together.

Alright, there really wasn’t much to be concerned about.
