Chapter 4

Qin Guanyu spent the entire afternoon thinking about what they should do today whenever he had a spare moment.

It wasn’t until 5:00 PM that his assistant brought over the final document. He reviewed it carefully, signed his name, and immediately shut down his computer to get ready to leave.

He gave Shen Qianci a call: “I’m off work. Have you packed your things yet?”

On the other end of the line, Shen Qianci suddenly asked, “Do you need me to stay the night at your place?”

Qin Guanyu froze instantly.

To be honest, he really hadn’t thought about this question.

This was only the first day after they signed the agreement. Wouldn’t it be a bit too much to move in together and stay the night right off the bat?

Shen Qianci seemed to sense his hesitation and let out a light chuckle. The sound felt like it carried a hook, reaching from the receiver right into Little President Qin’s throat and heart, hooking him until it hitched an itch.

“President Qin really asks for so little. I almost feel like I’m freeloading off you for nothing.”

Hearing that he was “being freeloaded off for nothing,” President Qin instantly felt a surge of indignation. He was clearly the sugar daddy here!

He didn’t know what kind of stupidity had just possessed him either. At worst, he could just tell Shen Qianci to sleep in the guest room. It was such a simple matter, yet he had actually hesitated over it, letting himself lose the upper hand for no good reason.

Determined to coldly reclaim his ground, he said, “Then bring the cat to stay over tonight. Bring a few more changes of clothes and leave them directly at my place. You’ll be coming over often in the future anyway.”

Hearing Shen Qianci obediently agree, Qin Guanyu was satisfied. It seemed he really did have a natural talent for being a sugar daddy.

Knock, knock, knock—

Qin Guanyu hung up the phone and glanced at the ajar door. “Come in.”

His assistant, Xiao Yuan, walked in with shining eyes. Xiao Yuan was an assistant personally picked for him by his maternal grandfather. He was the same age as Qin Guanyu, possessed strong working capabilities, and handled tasks properly. He was very convenient to have around.

But seeing him walk in at this moment, Qin Guanyu couldn’t help but get defensive: “Don’t tell me there are more documents for me to approve.”

“No, no, not at all,” Xiao Yuan chuckled. “President Qin, are you going to pick someone up?”

Qin Guanyu raised an eyebrow slightly.

Xiao Yuan immediately explained, “I accidentally overheard just now. I really didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”

Qin Guanyu didn’t plan on holding this against him to cause trouble, so he lowered his eyes and said, “I need to make a trip near Z University. Why?”

“Could you give me a lift? I won’t delay you. After the driver drops you off at home, I’ll just get off at my destination.”

Qin Guanyu didn’t know what was up with this Xiao Yuan guy, but he felt that the assistant was inexplicably excited, so excited he looked like a fly rubbing its hands together.

He asked suspiciously, “You have an errand to run that happens to be on the way?”

Xiao Yuan nodded like a woodpecker.

“Let’s go then. I’ll head home after I pick up the person, and you can tell the driver where you want to go then.”

“Thank you, President Qin!”

Once they reached the underground garage, Qin Guanyu sat in the back seat. After telling the driver, Xiao Fang, to head to Z University first to pick someone up, he watched with his own eyes as the driver, Xiao Fang, and the assistant, Xiao Yuan, in the passenger seat flashed the exact same expression.

Qin Guanyu found it completely baffling. What on earth were these two getting so excited about?

The car was stuck in traffic for ten minutes. By the time they arrived at the residential area near Z University, Shen Qianci was already waiting for him, carrying a cat backpack and wheeling a small suitcase.

Shen Qianci noticed that Qin Guanyu had driven that Bentley back again today and had even brought along two… audience members?

“My assistant, Xiao Yuan, and the driver, Xiao Fang.”

After getting out of the car, Qin Guanyu naturally took over the cat backpack for him and then said to the two audience members, “This is Teacher Shen.”

“Hello, Teacher Shen!” Xiao Yuan and Xiao Fang stood at attention, their eyes shining with respect for teachers.

Shen Qianci followed Qin Guanyu into the back seat. While the driver Xiao Fang loaded the luggage, Qin Guanyu took advantage of the fact that the car hadn’t started yet to take a close look at the pure white British Shorthair in his hands.

The little cat looked very healthy, with smooth fur, and it didn’t hiss randomly either. It just stared at Qin Guanyu with its green eyes without blinking once.

“Huh?” Qin Guanyu lifted the cat out of its backpack and held it up right next to Shen Qianci’s face to compare them closely. Then, he actually managed to sense a fragrant aura of scholarship from a literal cat.

He couldn’t help but chuckle: “Teacher Shen, your cat looks just like you.”

It looked so prim, proper, and pretty.

The “Little Cat Trial Card” expired in just a few minutes. Seeing his cat struggling to break free, Shen Qianci quickly took him back and put him back into the cat backpack.

“Steam Bun seems to pretty much…” like you.

Before Shen Qianci could even finish his sentence, a voice full of vitality suddenly boomed from the passenger seat.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen President Qin smile like that!”

Shen Qianci: “…”

Qin Guanyu: “…”

Shen Qianci looked toward the front passenger seat, only to see that after shouting this line, Qin Guanyu’s assistant looked completely refreshed, his whole body practically bathed in holy light, as if the entire purpose of his trip today was solely to deliver this sentence in full.

Now that his wish had been fulfilled, he had a deeply gratified air of this loyal subject can now die in peace

The car started up, and a bizarre atmosphere shrouded the entire journey.

Suppressing a laugh, Shen Qianci quietly sent Qin Guanyu a WeChat message:

[sqc: President Qin, in this melodramatic game, your assistant understands the assignment better than you do. [Thumbs up]]

Qin Guanyu looked away in sheer disgust.

It wasn’t until the car drove into Yunjing Villa that Shen Qianci couldn’t help but feel surprised. Although the luxury apartments in this area were notoriously expensive in Lucheng, he had always assumed that Qin Guanyu would live in a massive mansion.

After all, for ordinary people like them, their prejudice against overbearing CEOs was tied to a mansion.

Especially an overbearing CEO like Qin Guanyu, who was so tall and had a face that practically radiated boundless energy, it felt like only the kind of grand estate where walking from the master bedroom to the front gate took 10,000 steps could properly burn off all his stamina.

Xiao Fang drove the car into the underground garage, letting Qin Guanyu and Shen Qianci off by the elevator entrance first, and automatically went to carry the luggage for Shen Qianci.

As he handed the suitcase over to Shen Qianci, Comrade Xiao Fang was all smiles. He was young, yet his eyes reflected a kind of grandfatherly tenderness and gratification.

Shen Qianci intuitively felt that the “melodrama concentration” in the air had instantly skyrocketed.

Xiao Fang: “This is the first time President Qin has ever brought someone home.”

Shen Qianci: “…”

Qin Guanyu: “…”

As expected.

With blank expressions, the two of them stepped into the elevator. Xiao Yuan and Xiao Fang stood outside smiling, looking as though they were sending a newlywed couple into the bridal chamber…

It wasn’t until the elevator doors slid shut that Shen Qianci recalled the expressions on Xiao Yuan’s and Xiao Fang’s faces. The more he thought about it, the more amusing it became, and he burst out laughing.

“President Qin, your assistant and driver are giving me a real sense of participation as a substitute.”

His shoulders shook with laughter. When he turned his head, however, he found Qin Guanyu staring blankly at his lips without saying a word.

Inside the cramped space, the atmosphere instantly became very peculiar.

Shen Qianci stared back at him. For a moment, it felt like someone had pressed the pause button inside the elevator; the only thing moving was the floor numbers climbing continuously on the electronic screen.

Catching the subtle bob of Qin Guanyu’s Adam’s apple, Shen Qianci chuckled inwardly. Outwardly, however, he wiped the amusement from his face, deliberately pulling a look of sudden panic as he took half a step back. His voice dropped to a faint whisper: “Is it… because when I laugh like that, I don’t look like him anymore?”

“Huh?” Qin Guanyu snapped out of it violently. “What the hell are you talking about?”

With a ding, the elevator doors slid open.

Shen Qianci lowered his eyes. “I won’t laugh like that in the future.”

With that, he stepped out of the elevator. Qin Guanyu was left utterly bewildered in the wind, hurrying after him.

“Wait… what on earth? I didn’t say that!”
