ALWARFC Chapter 58

Why are there bird eggs in Su Miao’s bed? Could it really be a case of hatching eggs to bear children? That would be beyond absurd! Neither science nor mysticism can provide a reasonable explanation.

For a moment, both great-grandfather and great-grandson were left utterly shaken.

Su Weisheng was initially shocked, but his greater reaction was embarrassment. He absolutely did not want to be associated with this ridiculous spectacle. Meanwhile, Su Ning had his worldview completely overturned. What started as a simple attempt to enjoy some drama now had him questioning whether he might have also been born from an egg. That thought alone sent chills down his spine.

“No way…” he murmured uncertainly. “Could there be some kind of misunderstanding here?”

The scene on the large screen continued to unfold—an agitated Third Elder attempted to smash the eggs in an effort to erase this disgrace, but his attempt was fiercely resisted by Su Miao and quickly halted by the other elders, who had rushed over upon hearing the commotion. The farcical ordeal barely came to an end.

“No matter what, they are still descendants of the Su family! How could an elder personally kill their own younger kin? This is outrageous!”

“If they haven’t hatched, they don’t count as people yet, so what’s stopping us from handling them accordingly? Or do you intend to let them hatch and disrupt the existing rules of the Su family? How are we supposed to explain the origins of these seven children to outsiders?”

“This matter requires careful deliberation…”

For the time being, both Su Miao and the eggs were confined in the forbidden grounds, while the devastated Third Elder was carried away by a group of people and placed in a separate room to calm down. As a result, Su Weisheng and the others were left without any additional information.

However, instead of being discouraged, Su Ning’s eyes gleamed with excitement. He declared eagerly, “Great-grandfather, don’t worry! Within three days, I’ll uncover every last detail of this incident. Just wait for the results!”

Su Weisheng withdrew the projection, looking at Su Ning’s confident expression with understanding. “You already have a plan, then?”

“I do.”

Su Ning kept his plans under wraps, not revealing what he intended to do. Instead, he confidently declared, “The elders have made such a glaring mistake this time. If I can’t uncover the truth, wouldn’t that make me utterly useless?” With that, he left in high spirits, wasting no time lingering.

Su Weisheng remained seated, unmoving. After everyone had left, a shadow silently emerged from the darkness.

“…Father.” Su Laijin coughed awkwardly and said, “I never expected my younger brother’s actions to be so outrageous. Could he really have been born from an egg?”

Still pondering the mystery of the egg, Su Weisheng finally responded to his eldest son, whom he had summoned. “Before Yinzi ran away from home, did he find a partner he was fond of?”

Su Laijin shook his head firmly. “No. After you went into slumber, he seemed to mature overnight. He spent all his time either helping me manage family affairs or assisting the monarch with governance. He didn’t have anyone serving him, nor did he have the time or inclination to think about romance.”

Mentioning the monarch reminded Su Weisheng of something. “After I went into slumber, did their teacher-student relationship remain the same?”

“It did. My younger brother trusted the monarch deeply. There was a period when the monarch lost interest in ruling and almost handed over all authority to him. If he hadn’t suddenly run away from home, the monarch might have even considered him as a successor.”

These two had always been like-minded. Su Weisheng couldn’t believe Yuan Le wasn’t involved in stirring up trouble. Thinking about the disgraceful antics these two must have pulled behind his back, Su Weisheng grew increasingly furious. He dismissed Su Laijin and summoned Bug, handing him a wooden fish and instructing him with a blank expression, “Knock on the wooden fish and pray for the redemption of the wicked.” He then tossed a bracelet of Amazonite beads onto the table.

Bug protested, “I’m not Yuan Le, so why am I being dragged into this?”

“How can you call this torment? Isn’t it an opportunity for you to knock on the wooden fish and take revenge on the one who wronged you?” Su Weisheng retorted.

Bug: “…” Logical and well-founded, with an unusual perspective.

Following Su Weisheng’s instructions, Bug spent three days knocking on the wooden fish, fueled by a determined vow to send Yuan Le away.

Before the “lingering soul” in the bracelet could be successfully redeemed, Director You had already reached his limit.

On the third night, after the live stream ended, Su Weisheng returned to the east wing only to find someone had arrived in the living room ahead of him.

You Sui was lounging lazily against the back of a chair, casually fiddling with two large pearls in his hands. Hearing the door open, he raised his head slightly, revealing a pair of sly, fox-like eyes. Locking eyes with Su Weisheng, he smiled and said, “After three days of listening to the sound of the wooden fish, my ears are about to grow calluses. My dear High Priest, if you’re dissatisfied with me, you can just say so directly. There’s no need for this kind of psychological warfare. Look, I may not know what I did wrong, but I still came obediently with a gift to apologize.”

As he spoke, he placed the two pearls over his eyes like makeshift glasses, playfully pulling a mischievous face at Su Weisheng.

Su Weisheng, both amused and exasperated, looked at him and remarked, “Are you giving me my own belongings as a gift?” These two pearls were originally part of his burial treasures, later sold off by unworthy descendants.

You Sui replied with righteous confidence, “I went to great lengths and paid a high price to track these down. Even if they’re being returned to their rightful owner, I still deserve some credit.” With that, he lightly tossed the pearls toward Su Weisheng.

Catching the pearls effortlessly, Su Weisheng turned them over in his hands, noting their smooth and lustrous texture, unchanged from the past. Standing before You Sui, he tapped him lightly on the head and said, “Credit granted, but it still doesn’t outweigh your misdeeds.”

You Sui wrapped his arms around Su Weisheng’s waist, catching him off guard and pulling him into his lap. With practiced ease, he held Su Weisheng’s hand against his cheek, nuzzling it affectionately. Feigning innocence, he said, “At least let me know what I did wrong so I can die with some clarity. What exactly did I do to make our esteemed High Priest so angry?”

Su Weisheng lowered his gaze, narrowing his eyes as he studied You Sui’s feigned ignorance and shamelessly playful demeanor.

He asked, “Regarding Yinzi, can you honestly say you had no part in this?”

You Sui’s eyes flickered, instantly sensing the dangerous shift in his wife’s mood. It was clear that Su Weisheng was far from pleased. So, with an expression of utmost sincerity, he replied, “I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I can guarantee that I absolutely did not lead my disciple astray.”

Su Weisheng pinched his cheek but didn’t press further. Instead, with a half-smile, he remarked, “You’d better hope that’s true.” Then, pushing him aside, he stood up, grabbed his vibrating phone, and stepped out to take the call.

You Sui slumped onto the couch like a boneless serpent, unmoving, his fox-like eyes blinking rapidly. Ah, he thought, my wife is furious. Looks like my attempt to be clever completely backfired.

Tch, if I can’t earn credit, at the very least, I can’t let my mistakes be discovered. He remained perfectly composed, scheming silently.

Just then, Su Weisheng unexpectedly turned back to glance at him and casually remarked, “Su Ning will be here soon to help me unravel a particularly interesting mystery. Want to sit in on it?”

You Sui’s eyelid twitched, an ominous feeling creeping in.

Moments later, Su Ning arrived—but he wasn’t alone. Somehow, he had managed to sneak Su Miao out of the forbidden grounds and bring him along!

“Great-grandfather, look! This is the massive flaw left by the Elder Council. I brought it straight to you!”

Su Ning motioned for Su Miao to enter, then excitedly turned to Su Weisheng and complained, “You have no idea how bizarre this whole thing is. If I hadn’t double-checked multiple times, I wouldn’t have believed it myself. The method our bloodline uses to continue itself is absolutely wild!”

“That interesting, huh?” Su Weisheng strolled inside at a leisurely pace, casting You Sui a meaningful look before smiling at Su Ning. “Well then, let’s hear it. What exactly is going on?”

As he spoke, he slowly retrieved a small jade hammer from his waist, absentmindedly tapping it against his palm.

Its intimidating presence was undeniable.

Su Miao sat rigidly in the living room, listening to their conversation. Clenching his teeth, he reminded them, “You promised—if I told you everything I knew, you would help save my children…”

“Don’t worry. I keep my word.” Su Ning lifted his chin, his voice cold and firm. “Repeat everything you told me, and tell Great-grandfather as well.”

Su Miao closed his eyes, clearly struggling with his thoughts. After a brief moment of hesitation, he finally began to speak.

“I heard this from my father. The Su bloodline has always faced extreme difficulty in producing heirs, once even teetering on the edge of extinction. In the end, my great-grandfather, Su Laiyin, had no choice but to take an unorthodox approach to ensure our lineage’s survival. Supposedly, his teacher found a solution for him—but even by modern standards, the method was utterly shocking…”

Su Weisheng glanced meaningfully at You Sui, letting out a cold chuckle.

You Sui: “…”

Su Miao remained oblivious to the underlying tension in the room and continued his explanation. “It’s said that centuries ago, there was a near-extinct mythical beast known as Jiaohuo—a type of flood dragon. Their reproduction method was highly unusual. Male dragons could cultivate a special technique that allowed them to conceive through sheer energy alone, and within a few months, they would lay dragon eggs. Moreover, Jiaohuo were incredibly fertile, producing dozens of eggs at a time.”

Su Weisheng asked, “Then why did they go extinct?”

“Because Jiaohuo couldn’t hatch their own eggs. The eggs require human body heat to successfully break out of their shells. However, humans are greedy, and Jiaohuo didn’t dare take the risk of entrusting their eggs to them. Over time, the species gradually disappeared.”

“And then?” Su Weisheng pressed further.

“Later, our ancestors found the last remaining Jiaohuo and reached a unique reproductive agreement with them, creating the first generation of hybrids between the flood dragons and humans—our Su family ancestors, including our grandfather.”

Su Miao paused, clearly uncomfortable, but forced himself to continue. “Due to certain accidents, I became unable to have children. I spent my days in despair, waiting for death. My father, unable to bear seeing me like that, reluctantly passed down a special secret technique to me. According to this technique, as hybrids of Jiaohuo and humans, the Su descendants can cultivate this method to conceive on their own, without needing to pair with anyone, and produce hybrid dragon eggs…”

“Self-conception through cultivation.”

“Producing hybrid dragon eggs.”

Su Weisheng listened to this utterly bizarre explanation with a blank expression, finishing the thought for him: “And after laying the dragon eggs, you can hatch them into humans yourself, correct?”

“Yes,” Su Miao admitted, so embarrassed he wished he could disappear into the ground. “You have to incubate the eggs under you for three years before they can hatch into humans. That’s how our elders were born…”

Su Ning marveled, “No wonder my great-grandfather and grandfather had so many children. While others are viviparous, our family is oviparous! If this gets out, people could mock us as ‘egg-born children’!”

Su Weisheng looked at this peculiar character with a mix of amusement and exasperation. Even in such a situation, Su Ning still had the energy for witty remarks—truly unreserved when it came to his own family’s drama.

They continued asking related questions, but Su Miao had no more information to offer. Once it was clear nothing further could be learned, Su Ning had his confidants escort Su Miao away.

With Su Miao gone, only the three of them remained in the living room.

Seeing Su Weisheng’s peculiar gaze fixed on him, Su Ning hurriedly offered a panicked explanation, “Great-grandfather, don’t overthink it—I’m not egg-born!”

“Are you sure?” Su Weisheng asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course!” Su Ning insisted. “Why did the Su bloodline start struggling to produce heirs from the previous generation onward? Because those egg-born elders found the idea of hatching eggs too humiliating, and forcibly concealed the secret technique, switching to conventional reproduction instead. That’s why my father had me so late, at seventy years old! I am definitely viviparous.”

He paused for a moment, then clicked his tongue in amazement. “But honestly, our ancestor Su Laiyin was something else. No wonder he was the first head of the family—he had guts! He went all out, hatching eleven eggs just to ensure the Su family’s survival. What do you even call that? A heroic father!” he quipped.

At his words, Su Weisheng and You Sui exchanged a knowing glance, their expressions subtly complicated.

Su Ning assumed he was interrupting their private moment and, having completed his task, prepared to leave. Before heading out, he added, “Oh, by the way, Great-grandfather—Su Miao shared an important piece of information with me. He said that deep within the forbidden forest lies a treasure left behind by our ancestor Su Laiyin. If our family ever faces a crisis, activating this treasure will lead us to the ancestor’s reincarnation.”

Su Weisheng nodded knowingly. “You want to find this treasure.”

“Yes,” Su Ning admitted frankly. “It sounds incredible—but I’m hesitant. Given everything we learned today, my ancestor’s egg-hatching methods are eerily similar to Su Miao’s. What if I activate the treasure and it turns out our ancestor’s reincarnation is actually him? That would be terrifying…” He shuddered at the thought, grumbling under his breath. Then, with a quick farewell to the two, he wisely took his leave, giving them space.

Once he was gone, the atmosphere between the remaining two grew even more delicate.

Su Weisheng finally spoke. “That kid sure enjoyed watching the chaos unfold today.”

You Sui: “…He’s celebrating the chaos a little too soon.”

Ningning… have you ever considered the possibility that the ancestor you were gleefully mocking—Su Laiyin—might actually be your past life?

Hmm. He had meant to bring it up earlier, but seeing how much fun Su Ning was having reveling in the absurdity, he hesitated. If he were to say it now, Su Ning might just completely lose his mind.
