AMMSCF Chapter 39

Zuo Nian had a pair of fraternal twins—an Omega baby girl and an Alpha baby boy. Duan Baisui was overjoyed and practically bursting with happiness, wishing he could throw a banquet that lasted three days and three nights.

They hired four nannies at home, taking shifts to look after the children. But the two little ones still preferred their two fathers the most. With the ample nourishment of pheromones, the little ones were growing up especially well.

Zuo Nian had once worried that his gland deformity might be hereditary, but with each check-up, the doctors consistently concluded that the children were perfectly healthy. That eased Zuo Nian’s heart quite a bit.

He adored these two chubby babies. He didn’t let them sleep with the nannies. No matter how exhausting it was, he found joy in it.

Zuo Nian bought many fairy tale books. After the children had their fill of milk, he would hold a book and read them stories.

His gentle Omega voice was soothing and affectionate. Whenever he came across little animals in the stories, he’d even imitate their sounds: “The puppy goes, woof woof woof~”

The children looked at him, kicking their little legs and giggling. Zuo Nian’s heart grew even softer. He leaned down and kissed both of their cheeks, rubbing his nose against the babies’ necks, playfully saying, “Little piggy, oink oink oink~”

When Duan Baisui pushed open the door, what he saw was exactly this warm, cozy scene.

Even though Zuo Nian had given birth to two children, his innocence hadn’t faded in the slightest. He still loved wearing cartoon pajamas and remained as adorable as ever. Where did he look like a dad? He clearly looked more like a big brother.

Duan Baisui walked over and pulled him into his arms from behind, kissing the back of Zuo Nian’s neck. “What are you reading? Let me hear too.”

Zuo Nian tilted his head to look at him, and Duan Baisui took the chance to kiss him. Zuo Nian’s eyes curved with a smile, and he said, “It’s the story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Yellow Dog.”

“Where are you at in the story? Did I miss any good parts?” Duan Baisui played along.

“It’s just getting started~”

Duan Baisui lay down on his side and said, “Then Papa Nian, please continue.”

Zuo Nian smiled sweetly. “I wonder when Yuan Yuan and Man Man will start calling us Papa…”

“Very soon.”

Yuan Yuan and Man Man were the nicknames Zuo Nian had given the babies. The daughter was named Duan Yuan, and the son Duan Man, together, meaning “wholeness and completeness”.

Perhaps understanding how hard their fathers worked during the day, Yuan Yuan and Man Man were rarely fussy at night. Once they were full of milk, they’d be lulled to sleep by their fathers’ pheromones and usually slept through until six in the morning. When they got hungry, they’d use their little hands to paw at their Alpha father’s face, then let out a couple of symbolic cries.

Duan Baisui usually got up around that time. He’d stop Zuo Nian from getting up and tell him to sleep a bit longer, while he carried one child in each arm to the living room, where the nanny had already warmed up their bottles.

As soon as the pacifier reached their mouths, the babies would instantly stop crying and focus on filling their tummies.

Zuo Nian was always worried, so he’d come down wrapped in a coat, then kiss their little feet and say, “Even baby’s little feet smell so nice~”

To spend more time with the kids, Zuo Nian specially hired a clerk for his little shop. He only needed to stop by occasionally to restock; most of his time was spent at home.

In truth, there were plenty of people to care for the babies. It wasn’t like they couldn’t manage without him. But he just couldn’t bear to be apart from them.

While the babies napped, he would sit beside them and knit hats and socks.

Yuan Yuan had a pink bunny hat, and Man Man had a yellow tiger hat. The brother and sister looked as well-behaved as little elves from a fairy tale.

Zuo Nian couldn’t wait to take a photo of them and sent it to Duan Baisui, saying, “The babies are so good.”

Just then, the door opened, and Duan Baisui walked in, holding a phone in one hand and a bouquet in the other.

Zuo Nian was surprised. “You’re back so early today?”

Duan Baisui smiled. “I came home since there wasn’t any work. Dad and the others will be coming over later to see the kids.”

Zuo Nian said, “Then I’ll have Auntie Liu prepare dinner.”

“No rush,” Duan Baisui stepped forward and handed him the flowers.

The nannies, carrying the children, tactfully stepped aside. Duan Baisui kissed Zuo Nian and said, “Papa Nian is also being so good.”

Duan Baisui didn’t neglect Zuo Nian just because they had kids now. On the contrary, he became even more attentive to rituals and romance. His spoiling of Zuo Nian knew no bounds.

Zuo Nian couldn’t bear to be apart from the children, and Duan Baisui couldn’t bear to be apart from Zuo Nian. Every day at work, his mind would be filled with scenes of Zuo Nian humming lullabies while soothing the children to sleep.

After giving birth, the Omega had gained a slight softness to his figure. In the dim, warm light, he’d prop his head with one hand and pat the baby with the other, radiating a charm that deeply captivated Duan Baisui.

When the children turned one, they were already able to toddle around unsteadily.

The living room had been fitted with a large safety enclosure, and thick carpet had been laid on the floor to prevent injury from falls.

But accidents still happened.

That day, Zuo Nian was brushing Yuan Yuan’s hair when Man Man climbed over the bed rail and fell.

The bed wasn’t high, but after all, he was just over a year old. Still so delicate everywhere.

Man Man cried loudly, and Zuo Nian was completely frightened. He rushed to pick the child up and check him over, finding a bump on his forehead from the fall.

As Man Man cried, he cried too. Holding both children in his arms, he hurried off to the hospital in a panic.

Auntie Liu accompanied him the whole way, comforting him, saying that little ones bumping into things is perfectly normal. The more they fall, the higher they grow.

Zuo Nian couldn’t take in any of it. His guilt and self-blame made his tears fall nonstop.

Thankfully, the child wasn’t seriously hurt. The doctor said the little bump would go down soon.

Zuo Nian sat in the hospital corridor wiping his tears. Man Man kept throwing himself into his arms, his little hands patting Zuo Nian’s face as he softly murmured in his babyish voice, “Pa… pa pa.”

Zuo Nian froze and asked Auntie Liu, “Did you hear that? I think… I think he just called me Papa?”

Auntie Liu smiled kindly. “Yes, Mr. Zuo. Young Master Man Man is comforting you. He’s saying he’s okay, so you don’t need to cry.”

Zuo Nian laughed and cried at the same time, burying his face into his son’s neck. “I’m sorry…”

Man Man hugged his head and gently called out again, “Papa…”

Not long after, Duan Baisui rushed over.

Zuo Nian’s eyes were swollen from crying. “I’m sorry, honey… It’s all my fault.”

Duan Baisui sat beside him, stroking his head. “How could an Alpha be that fragile? He’s fine. He just learned how to walk. It won’t be the last time he falls. Didn’t we all grow up like this, too? Don’t be upset, baby.”

They had babies now, but Zuo Nian was still his baby.

Zuo Nian sniffled. “Man Man just called me Papa…”

Duan Baisui said, “See? Falling just made him smarter.”

Zuo Nian didn’t really agree with that and stared at him with grievance. “They… were smart to begin with.”

Duan Baisui laughed. “Alright, whatever Papa Nian says, that’s how it is.”

After bringing the children home, Zuo Nian was still filled with guilt. He laid down extra thick clothes under the bed and bought even taller railings around it, afraid something like today would happen again.

That night, when Duan Baisui came out of the shower, Zuo Nian and the kids were already asleep.

He was like a mother hen guarding her chicks, arms curled tightly around the babies, even his eyelashes still damp.

That silly little thing wanted so badly to be a good father that he couldn’t allow himself a single mistake.

Duan Baisui climbed into bed, kissed his cheek, and whispered, “Silly wife.”

After saying that, he leaned over and kissed Man Man again, saying, “You little rascal.”

Just as he was about to kiss Yuan Yuan, the little girl opened her eyes. Her pupils were dark and clear, bright as glass. She looked so much like Zuo Nian, unbelievably beautiful.

Duan Baisui gently touched her cheek and smiled, “Were you pretending to sleep to keep your Papa Nian company?”

The little girl blinked her big eyes, then said, “Dada~”

Duan Baisui paused for a moment before realizing. His little girl was calling him Daddy.

He was a complete daughter-dad. He usually held his daughter more often, so naturally, he’d spent more time teaching her to say “Daddy”.

Today was the first time he’d heard his daughter call him that. In that moment, Duan Baisui completely understood how Zuo Nian had felt. He was so moved he nearly cried.

He lowered his head and kissed Yuan Yuan, murmuring affectionately, “My little princess.”
