ARIWLBBC Chapter 93

Crossing the line

Before making a decision, Lei Beishuang always lists the pros and cons. Now, he’s passed this habit on to Bo Ge.

Ever the good student, Bo Ge obediently opened his notebook, splitting the page in half—one side for benefits, the other for drawbacks.

“If the drawbacks exceed three, decline,” Lei Beishuang instructed strictly.

“Drawbacks?” Bo Ge thought for a while. “It might take up some of my study time.”

Lei Beishuang nodded in agreement.

“But participating in this activity could help me make friends and learn new things,” Bo Ge listed two benefits in the pros column. “And it’s part of the Alliance Celebration—it feels like an honor to be involved.”

“And I want to see this Luo Qi. Is he really as beautiful as they say? How closely does he fit human aesthetics? Is he a perfect example of it?” Bo Ge quickly jotted down in the pros column. “Maybe I could even get an autograph and make some money off it.”

The list grew longer and longer. When it was done, the pros far outweighed the single con. Lei Beishuang’s expression darkened slightly.

“Then it’s settled!” Bo Ge cheerfully accepted Luo Qi’s friend request and began typing a greeting.

“Hello, I’m Bo Ge. [Handshake]”

Lei Beishuang hugged the boy tightly, staring at the [Handshake] emoji with a blank expression.

“Hello, I’m Luo Qi,” came a quick reply, followed by a voice message.

Bo Ge played the audio but found the volume a bit low, so he instinctively increased it and leaned closer to the communicator.

“Would you be willing to participate in the Alliance Celebration activity? If so, I can send you the specific details for your review.”

“I’m willing.” Bo Ge typed the response but hadn’t sent it when a cough sounded above him.

“Got a cold?” Bo Ge tilted his head up. This person had been wandering the wilderness half-naked—could he have caught a chill?

“I’m fine,” Lei Beishuang replied, gazing seriously at the boy. “Are you sure you don’t need more time to think this through?”

“Did I miss any potential drawbacks?” Bo Ge asked, puzzled. From this angle, the man’s expression looked a bit unusual.

“You should give yourself more time to think it over and fully understand the nature of the activity you’re about to join,” Lei Beishuang said calmly.

“That makes sense.” Bo Ge gave him a thumbs-up. “As expected of my Leopard!”

Deleting the words “I’m willing,” Bo Ge rephrased his response. “Sorry, I’d like to consider it carefully. Can I give you an answer this afternoon?”

“Of course. [Smile]”

Looking at the [Smile] emoji with its downward-tilting eyes, Bo Ge frowned slightly at its mysterious expression.

When they arrived home, Nice and Scepter were amazed by the grass skirt Lei Beishuang had woven. Bo Ge watched as Lei Beishuang reattached his buttons, then snatched the grass skirt away to carefully add it to his collection.

“If Master and Little Master have offspring, you can proudly tell them, ‘This is the grass skirt your father once wove,’” Scepter teased gleefully. “I never knew the Chief had such a skill!”

“I can do needle felting, and he can weave grass skirts. At least we won’t have to worry about our kids’ craft projects when they’re little,” Bo Ge chimed in, admiring the tightly woven grass skirt with satisfaction.

Lei Beishuang emerged from the collection room, dressed in a sleek black suit. He adjusted the cufflinks on his wrist as he walked and overheard Bo Ge’s words. Looking at the boy, his gaze softened with indulgence.

On the way to work, Scepter floated beside Lei Beishuang’s face and cautiously suggested, “Master, if you and Little Master are planning to have offspring in the future, I recommend that you freeze your sperm now.”

“No need,” Lei Beishuang replied calmly, his eyes on the document in front of him.

“But even though your health is excellent, you’ve missed the optimal reproductive age. If you don’t freeze it now, the quality of your sperm will decline as you age.” Scepter treaded carefully.

With current technology, even two males could produce offspring. One partner would undergo treatment to develop a parthenogenetic embryo internally, while the other provided high-quality sperm. The embryo and sperm would then be combined at the Alliance’s breeding center to create healthy offspring.

High-quality sperm was crucial for success.

Scepter had been tactfully suggesting sperm freezing for six years, but Lei Beishuang always reacted negatively to the idea.

After all, it was through this very method that Laplace had obtained superior sperm from Lei Lanyang, leading to an unfortunate and regretful series of events. Lei Beishuang had learned his lesson and refused to let such a mistake happen again.

Since meeting Bo Ge, Lei Beishuang found himself increasingly able to empathize with the Lei couple, particularly Lady Anmei’s resentment toward him.

The arrival of a lover’s illegitimate child was enough to drive anyone to the brink, himself included.

“If you’re not freezing your sperm, does that mean you plan to have offspring soon?” Scepter suddenly entertained the possibility.

Lei Beishuang continued flipping through his document, saying nothing.

After observing his master’s expression, Scepter concluded that he didn’t seem to have immediate plans for children.

So, what was the plan?

No kids at all?

Scepter was conflicted. Given Little Master’s rare species status, the Alliance would never allow someone of his kind to have no descendants.

Listing several possibilities and eliminating the less likely ones, Scepter was left with only one answer: parthenogenesis, leaving Bo Ge to pass on his own lineage alone.

“Master, are you seriously planning to abandon your genetic legacy?!” Scepter stared in disbelief at the conclusion. “This won’t do! You need to have more faith in the Alliance’s breeding center. Things are completely different from 36 years ago!”

“Scepter.” Lei Beishuang looked up, his gaze calm but firm as he addressed the golden orb that had accompanied him for eight years.

“You’re overstepping.”

While studying, Bo Ge was still contemplating the downsides of attending the event. Sea Hare noticed his distracted state and tried to grab his attention.

“What’s wrong? Your big cat isn’t clinging to you today? Missing him already?” Sea Hare teased, winking.

“Not really,” Bo Ge replied earnestly. “Because he’s always here.” He pointed to his chest.

The single Sea Hare immediately felt the sting of envy, rolling his eyes dramatically. “Then what are you brooding over?”

“I’m thinking about the downsides of attending the Alliance Celebration event,” Bo Ge confessed. He’d been pondering for a while and even searched the interstellar web but came up with nothing.

“What nonsense!” Sea Hare exclaimed, shocked. “You’re the prospective mate of the Alliance’s Chief! Are you saying there are downsides to participating? Do you have issues with the Alliance, or are you falling out of love with your big cat?”

“Of course I love him,” Bo Ge answered sincerely. “When I first came here, I had nothing. The Alliance gave me shelter and even a monthly stipend. I’m grateful to the Alliance.”

“Then why are you struggling with this?” Sea Hare was baffled. “Attending the Alliance Celebration is every citizen’s responsibility. It’s a major holiday, like New Year’s! Would you skip New Year’s?”

“It’s not what you think,” Bo Ge explained, pulling up the message from Luo Qi. “It’s about participating in a specific event with Luo Qi.”

Sea Hare stared at the message, stunned, as two tears slowly trickled down his face.

“Why are you crying, Professor ?” Bo Ge quickly offered him a handkerchief, but Sea Hare grabbed Bo Ge’s wrist with one hand and pointed at his tears with the other.

“Do you see this? These are tears of envy!”

Sea Hare wanted nothing more than to pry open Bo Ge’s head and see what was going on inside.

“Are you crazy? You’re hesitating over something like this?! This is a chance to show your face in the Alliance and stand next to your dream person! People would break their necks for such an opportunity, and you’re still hesitating!”

“But it might interfere with my studies.” Bo Ge pointed to the sole con in his list.

“You idiot!” Sea Hare stomped his feet in frustration and grabbed Bo Ge’s head, forcing him to look at him directly.

“Bo Ge, listen to me. I’ll tell you this straight.” Sea Hare’s expression turned serious. “No matter which school you aim for, attending an Alliance Celebration event will guarantee your admission!”

“Even the First Military Academy?” Bo Ge asked, surprised.

“Yes!” Sea Hare practically swore to the heavens. “If you perform well at the Alliance Celebration event and still don’t get into the First Military Academy, I’ll cut off my head and let you use it as a football!”

Bo Ge quickly crossed out the sole item in the “Cons” column.

“Alright, I’ve decided. For the upcoming event, I’ll focus on participating,” he said resolutely.

“Hurry up and reply to your dream guy!” Sea Hare urged, almost frantic. “Things like this can change in an instant. The sooner you lock it in, the better!”

Bo Ge quickly messaged Luo Qi back, and both of them stared intently at the holo-brain. One second, two seconds, one minute, two minutes…

No reply from Luo Qi.

While Bo Ge remained calm, Sea Hare was already hopping in place. When no response came after a while, Bo Ge simply resumed his online class.

“Ahhh!” Sea Hare cried out, nearly hysterical. “If you miss such a golden opportunity, I’ll never forgive myself!”

“It’s fine,” Bo Ge reassured Sea Hare. “Even if I miss it, it’s no big deal. Let’s keep studying.”

“I really admire you!” Sea Hare grabbed Bo Ge’s hand and placed it on his chest. “Feel my heartbeat—it’s all over the place! I’m one step away from dropping dead right here!”

Compared to Sea Hare’s over-the-top reaction, Bo Ge appeared unusually composed.

Over a thousand years of life had slowly worn down his sharp edges. Bo Ge felt like a plain steamed bun—mild in flavor, offering little sensory stimulation, but filling enough to satisfy hunger. It carried only a faint hint of sweetness.

Thankfully, Bao Bao liked it just the way it was.

While Sea Hare spun around in circles, Bo Ge finished another online lecture. As he worked on his exercises, his holo-brain chimed. Sea Hare darted over immediately, his large eyes wide with anticipation.

“Is it a message from Luo Qi?”

“Um…” Bo Ge glanced at the sender, a bit surprised. “No, it’s not Luo Qi.”

“Ugh.” Sea Hare turned away in disappointment.

Bo Ge took the chance to open the message from Lady Anmei.

Lady Anmei:
“Dear Bo Ge, do you have time this afternoon? I’ve discovered a lovely beauty salon with excellent services. Would you like to join me for some relaxation?”

Receiving an invitation from an elder, Bo Ge promptly agreed. Lady Anmei had always treated him kindly. Besides, after Bao Bao’s outburst last time, which injured Lei Lanyang and caused significant damage to the Lei family’s property, they hadn’t held Bao Bao accountable. Bo Ge felt deeply grateful for that.

The holo-brain chimed again. This time, it was Luo Qi.

Luo Qi:
“Apologies, I was in rehearsal earlier. Here’s a document detailing the general structure and content of the event. Please review it and let me know your decision. I’ll be keeping an eye on my holo-brain, eagerly awaiting your response.”

“Is it Luo Qi this time?” Sea Hare bounced over again at the sound.

“Yes.” Bo Ge opened the file and skimmed through it quickly, surprised to discover that the event unexpectedly aligned perfectly with his interests!
