Unlike traditional programs, the script Luo Qi sent to Bo Ge resembled a short drama. It told the story of various races banding together to combat the insectoid threat.
Humans didn’t have much screen time, but their portrayal was remarkable. The script objectively depicted the bravery and ruggedness of beastfolk, the wisdom and cunning of elves, the craftsmanship and selfishness of dwarves, but it had nothing negative to say about humans.
The scriptwriter was likely a beastfolk.
And one who was fond of humans.
“I’ve reviewed the event details. It’s excellent, and I’ll participate,” Bo Ge messaged. Luo Qi instantly replied with three 🎉 emojis to express his delight.
“Here are the IDs of the director and assistant director. They might send you some agreements to sign. Once the formalities are complete, rehearsals should start tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you. [Cute face emoji]”
While Sea Hare was bouncing around in excitement, Bo Ge added the two directors as contacts, signed the agreement, and finalized the arrangements. Sea Hare was so thrilled he nearly fainted.
“If rehearsals start tomorrow, let me take care of you!” Sea Hare declared proudly. “The other actors will surely have managers attending to them. My Bo Ge mustn’t go without!”
“Alright,” Bo Ge replied with a bright smile.
“That’s it for today’s lessons. Rehearsals for the celebration will definitely be exhausting. The closer you get to the event, the more likely you’ll need to rehearse around the clock. Once it’s over, we’ll resume classes!” Sea Hare had everything planned out.
“I’ll go train my muscles now. Strong and capable—that’s me!” Sea Hare strode off, exuding a heroic air despite his petite frame.
With some free time, Bo Ge started researching tips for visiting a beauty salon.
A beauty salon was uncharted territory for Bo Ge.
The unfamiliarity gave it a sense of mystery. He couldn’t help but imagine himself with a face mask, a towel wrapped around his head, and a bathrobe draped over his body.
That… unmistakably resembled a pampered aristocratic pigeon.
“‘It’s best not to eat before a beauty treatment?’” Bo Ge read aloud from an answer he found online. That made sense—if a vigorous masseuse pressed too hard on a full stomach, it might end up with unintended consequences.
Before heading out, Bo Ge took another shower for good measure. After informing Nes, he chose one of the big cat’s flying vehicles and headed to the agreed meeting spot with Lady Anmei.
Bo Ge arrived ten minutes early. Stepping out of the flying vehicle, he saw Lady Anmei already waiting for him.
“Apologies for keeping you waiting,” Bo Ge said cautiously.
“I just got here too,” Lady Anmei replied naturally, linking arms with Bo Ge and smiling warmly.
Faced with such a smile, Bo Ge felt a twinge of unease.
Lady Anmei, by seniority, was his future mother-in-law. While she didn’t seem fond of Lei Beishuang, she was leagues better than Laplace. At least she had contributed to the big cat’s upbringing.
Seeing his future mother-in-law beam so warmly and act so close could easily be mistaken for a mother-son dynamic. As the prospective son-in-law, Bo Ge felt a bit of pressure.
“Bo Ge, come on. I saw online that this beauty salon has excellent services. Let’s enjoy it together,” Lady Anmei said enthusiastically, pulling Bo Ge into a building surrounded by vines. A petite female beastfolk greeted them with a smile and led them to the waiting lounge, introducing various beauty treatments.
“Are there any treatments suitable for humans?” Mrs. Anmei was the first to raise the question.
The female beastman glanced at the somewhat reserved young man and couldn’t help but take a second look. “Please wait a moment. I’ll call the manager to assist you.”
Before long, a short-haired beastman with a refined appearance—making it hard to discern their gender—approached with a gentle smile.
“Greetings, dear guests. I am the manager of this beauty salon, and it’s an honor to serve you.” The short-haired beastman swiped open a page. “These are the treatments suitable for humans. Additionally, we provide human customers with specially colored robes to distinguish their identity, ensuring the technicians are attentive.”
Mrs. Anmei nodded and began selecting treatments. Bo Ge watched helplessly as she chose a “natural professional skincare” treatment, a “full-body massage,” and, finally, an “ovarian care treatment.”
Wait…
Bo Ge glanced down at his own abdomen.
I don’t even have that organ, and I wouldn’t dare ask.
“Alright, your treatments have been arranged,” the manager said with a polite nod before turning to Bo Ge. “Dear human guest, do you have any other requests? We’ll make sure to meet them.”
“No,” Bo Ge said, trying to muster a smile.
“Very well.” The manager maintained their smile. “Please follow me to the second floor to change.”
In the private changing room, Bo Ge noticed there was even a bed inside. He stared at the transparent hair cover and semi-transparent undergarments in a daze. Thankfully, there was a yellow robe outside to cover everything.
When Bo Ge finally emerged after much hesitation, he saw Mrs. Anmei waiting with her legs crossed. Dressed in a pink robe, she exuded an air of elegance and nobility.
Bo Ge also noticed other customers. The males wore blue robes, females wore pink, hermaphrodites wore purple, and elves wore green.
In contrast, Bo Ge’s bright yellow robe stood out dramatically.
The gazes from passersby gave Bo Ge the illusion of wearing an imperial robe.
Upon entering the treatment room, Bo Ge immediately noticed two beds, each with a technician standing beside it. His assigned technician, despite wearing a mask and hair cover, was unmistakably the same manager who had greeted them earlier.
A fragrant aroma filled the air from the bedside cabinet. Feeling slightly nervous, Bo Ge lay down on the single bed, gripping his robe tightly.
“We’ll start with a full-body massage,” the manager said, putting on gloves. Their excitement and enthusiasm were evident. Bo Ge glanced over at Mrs. Anmei, who had already removed her robe and was lying face down on the massage bed with a towel covering the rest of her body.
Quickly averting his gaze, Bo Ge felt uneasy.
Mrs. Anmei really does see herself as a female now, doesn’t she?
Reluctantly, Bo Ge removed his robe and mimicked Mrs. Anmei’s posture. The manager applied a specially prepared ointment to Bo Ge’s back and began a gentle massage.
“Bo Ge,” Mrs. Anmei called out casually, “how does it feel?”
“Pretty good,” Bo Ge replied, gradually relaxing from his initial tension.
“It’s been a while since we last met after you saved me,” Mrs. Anmei remarked in a conversational tone.
“That time, he completely lost control. I’m so sorry for the harm caused to you,” Bo Ge said cautiously. “It won’t happen again.”
“It’s no big deal. Beastmen have thick skin, after all. As long as you weren’t hurt, that’s all that matters,” Mrs. Anmei said gently.
“Thank you,” Bo Ge replied politely.
“No need to be so reserved. Looking at you and that kid, it’s only a matter of time before we’re family,” Mrs. Anmei said, glancing at Bo Ge. “Although I don’t like him, I do approve of you.”
“Ever since that day, your uncle hasn’t stopped talking about you. My sons and grandsons have been so dejected they’ve lost their appetites. I told them, ‘If you’ve got the guts, defeat that kid. If you’re even a little better than him, you’re not worthless.’”
Bo Ge couldn’t help but look at Mrs. Anmei again. Despite having given birth to so many children, her figure was still impeccably maintained.
“Mrs. Anmei,” Bo Ge said softly, his voice making the beastmen in the room inexplicably excited.
“What is it?” Mrs. Anmei turned her head to look at him. “Are you being mistreated by him? If so, come stay with me for a while.”
“No,” Bo Ge replied, biting his lip before cautiously asking, “You’ve had so many children. Before giving birth, do you inform your other children?”
“Of course,” Mrs. Anmei said firmly. “No matter how young a child is, they’re part of the family. If a new member is joining, every family member must be informed and prepared to welcome them.”
“What if one of them disagrees?”
“It’s simple: either I persuade them, or they persuade me,” Mrs. Anmei said, opening her light-brain and showing Bo Ge a picture.
“When I was preparing for my twelfth child, my third son objected. The environment was unstable at the time, and Lan Yang had gone to war. My third son successfully persuaded me. He’s a very responsible older brother.”
Bo Ge looked at the photo of Mrs. Anmei with her third son, feeling a bit envious.
“Honestly, having so many children isn’t always a good thing,” Mrs. Anmei said, her expression softening as she gazed at a family photo. “You wouldn’t believe how much it costs to raise just one child to adulthood—at least 800,000 credits. Look at how many I’ve raised.”
“I used to be a professional wilderness training instructor, but I ended up devoting all my time to my children. When it came to choosing between work and family, I chose family. Being surrounded by dozens of kids is an experience you can’t imagine. I’m still an instructor, but now I teach my own children.”
Bo Ge studied Mrs. Anmei’s face, searching for even a hint of regret, but found none.
“Honestly, having so many kids became a kind of obsession,” Mrs. Anmei sighed. “Lan Yang and I originally planned to have only thirty cubs, but that number has doubled now.”
“Why?” Bo Ge asked curiously. Could it be a failure of birth control?
“I’m competitive,” Mrs. Anmei admitted. “When I was an instructor, I wanted my students to be better than everyone else. As a mother, I feel the same way. If I’m going to do something, I want to do it to the best of my ability—including raising children.”
Bo Ge nodded. Was this what they called a tiger mom? Though with so many kids, if that tiger energy was divided among them, it didn’t seem so overwhelming.
“But, as you can see, I encountered my greatest setback,” Mrs. Anmei said, her voice tinged with melancholy. “That kid—he was the easiest I’ve ever raised. He ate whatever was given to him, never knowing what it meant to be picky or to care about balanced nutrition. I never set any expectations for his studies, nor did I tutor him, yet he excelled every single time.
“Meanwhile, the other kids around his age gave me endless headaches. I was so stressed I almost gave myself a heart attack. And yet, they couldn’t even come close to matching him—not by a long shot.”
“For a time, I doubted my own methods of education and even secretly observed him for a while. The truth is, that kid is simply naturally gifted. His genes are exceptional. He seizes every opportunity around him, works hard, and is incredibly disciplined.”
As Bo Ge listened to Mrs. Anmei recount her experiences, his eyes sparkled with admiration for the “big cat’s” past accomplishments.
“So I thought, if one turned out this good, maybe I could raise another to surpass him. But no matter how many I had, none of them could beat him,” Mrs. Anmei sighed, visibly frustrated.
The two massage therapists remained silent throughout. Upon closer inspection, Bo Ge noticed something plugged into their ears.
“Don’t worry, whenever we start chatting, they instinctively block out the sound,” Mrs. Anmei said with a wink. Then, turning to Bo Ge, she added, “By the way, Bo Ge, when are you and that kid planning to have cubs?”
Cubs?
Bo Ge’s face turned a little red, and his voice softened. “We haven’t decided yet.”
“If you do have kids, make sure to bring them by often to see their grandparents. Let their grandma teach them a thing or two,” Mrs. Anmei said with a sly smile. “Who knows, I might just manage to raise one who’s better than him.”
Bo Ge forced a polite smile. Was this a not-so-subtle push for grandchildren? Besides, he and the “big cat” hadn’t even gotten their marriage license yet.
“You’d better hurry,” Mrs. Anmei said thoughtfully. “I hear the reproductive assessment is about to get even tougher. And you two should settle your marriage soon. With the changes to the marriage-matching system, it’s giving plenty of others a chance.”
After pondering for a moment, Mrs. Anmei added, “Speaking of those changes to the marriage-matching system, isn’t that kid just creating risks for himself?
“Or is he so sure you’re set on him, that you wouldn’t marry anyone else? He doesn’t seem to have the slightest sense of danger—so self-absorbed!”
