Pregnant Salted Fish Chapter 24

TL: Hua

“Auntie Li, that’s not my fault!” Mu Yu fed his chicks, then ran to the kitchen to help Auntie Li. He didn’t know until he looked, and when he did, he was truly startled.

Everything in the kitchen was in disarray. The dipper for water was left in the kitchen, pot lids were scattered, and the area in front of the stove was even more unsightly. Mu Yu then thought of the Taoist priest he had taught how to light a fire yesterday and couldn’t help but slap his forehead.

“Last night, it was raining heavily, and a few Taoist priests came to stay. They probably made this mess while boiling water for bathing. Auntie Li, let me clean it up.” Mu Yu quickly tidied up the mess and then gave Auntie Li a few instructions: “There are three extra men this morning, Auntie Li, please make more food.”

“Oh, are those the three Taoist masters who went to Zhang Family Village for the free clinic?” Auntie Li quickly boiled water and cooked while chatting with Mu Yu. “I heard it from my sister-in-law when I got home yesterday. She said there were three kind Taoist masters who went to her maiden family’s village for a free clinic. My sister-in-law even went back to her maiden home specifically to see them and get some medicine!”

Mu Yu listened with great interest: “It’s probably those three. We also let them into the courtyard because they looked harmless; otherwise, we wouldn’t dare let anyone in during the night.”

“They were very busy yesterday until late, and they’re probably not familiar with the roads around here. Plus, the rain yesterday was heavy, so they took a wrong turn.” Auntie Li didn’t think much of it. Mainly, the people in their area were always simple and honest, and nothing like theft had ever happened, so everyone’s guard wasn’t very high.

The real culprit behind the messy kitchen was actually not Wen Jing, but Yin Yuancheng. He thought that since His Majesty had been caught in the rain, and he saw brown sugar in the kitchen, he decided to boil a bowl of brown sugar water for His Majesty. Who knew the idea was good, but the execution was difficult?

He then dragged Wen Jing to be busy with him for a long time. They finally managed to boil some brown sugar water and served it to His Majesty, which finally put his mind at ease. However, he had never done kitchen work before, so he only thought of scrubbing the pot clean and left everything else unattended.

The clothes washed last night, thanks to Wen Jing’s special treatment, were almost dry by now. Wen Jing helped Yin Yanjun put on his clothes and then wanted to go outside to get water for His Majesty to wash, but Yin Yanjun refused.

When they stepped out of the room, Qi Chen was washing his face by the water vat. He waved to the three Taoist priests: “Come over here to wash up; we’ll be eating soon.”

Qi Chen wiped his face with a cloth towel, making space for the three of them. Wen Jing emptied the water Qi Chen had used from the basin and scooped fresh water from the vat.

During the meal, Yin Yuancheng couldn’t help but ask, “Isn’t your young master getting up to eat?” He had heard Mu Yu and Qi Chen refer to “Young Master” repeatedly last night, and after all this time, he still hadn’t seen the master of the house!

Mu Yu picked up a steamed bun and ate it with pickles. Hearing the question, he looked up in the direction of the young master’s room. “Young Master will probably be up soon.”

Yin Yuancheng couldn’t help but click his tongue. It was strange that the servants could eat directly while the master of the house hadn’t gotten up. However, he didn’t voice his thoughts, only looking at Mu Yu with a hint of scrutiny. It had been dark last night, so he hadn’t paid much attention, but now he felt more and more that Mu Yu looked familiar.

Mu Yu also felt that Yin Yuancheng looked familiar, so the two often met each other’s eyes unintentionally during the meal. Just as Mu Yu felt he was about to remember where he had seen this young Taoist, he heard a creak, and the door behind him opened.

Xu Yanqing had a fairly peaceful sleep. After waking up, he first folded the cloak hidden in his quilt as usual, then slowly pushed the door open and walked out of the room.

“Xu Yanqing!” Yin Yuancheng exclaimed in surprise, standing up at the sight of the young master emerging from the room.

Xu Yanqing was startled by the commotion and turned his head, only to see another extremely familiar figure: “Taoist Master.”

The Taoist master sitting at the table carried his usual otherworldly aura. Even with a steamed bun in his hand and a bowl of corn and mixed grain porridge in front of him, it did not diminish his noble presence in the slightest.

He looked up, his clear and cold gaze falling on Xu Yanqing, making Xu Yanqing unsure how to react. His belly was already showing a bump; would Taoist Xuanchen notice?

But Yin Yanjun said nothing. He remained as gentle and dignified as ever, without even a hint of surprise, as if he had long known that the person living here was the young master of the Xu family.

“Does this Taoist Master know our Young Master?” Qi Chen blinked, pulling the still-standing Yin Yuancheng to sit down. He asked the question, but his gaze was fixed on the distant and serene Yin Yanjun.

Xu Yanqing was actually a little embarrassed at this moment. He had been dreaming of intimate moments with Taoist Xuanchen last night, and now suddenly seeing him in person, the usually thick-skinned Xu Yanqing felt a rare sense of bashfulness.

After washing up, Xu Yanqing sat down at the table. For some reason, there was only an empty seat next to Taoist Xuanchen at the large table, so he had no choice but to sit there.

Compared to the cloak, which had a very faint scent, the clear and light fragrance emanating from the real person was simply overwhelming.

The tingling and swelling at the back of his neck became restless, like boiling water, with their clamor filling every part of him.

Yin Yanjun raised his hand and took a steaming hot bun, handing it to the young master beside him. His eyes always held that composed calmness, like an unmoved deity.

Yet, Xu Yanqing felt that the Taoist master possessed a charm unlike any other man. In the language of his previous life, the Taoist master was a complete “abstinence-style” handsome man; just sitting there, he was like an intoxicating painting.

The heat in the back of his neck continued to rise, and a faint peach scent emanated from him. Xu Yanqing took the bun with one hand and couldn’t help but scratch the back of his neck with the other. Soon, his neck was scratched a bright red.

That crimson color, on the young master’s jade-like fair skin, appeared somewhat vivid. Yin Yanjun frowned slightly as he watched the movement of his hand.

Xu Yanqing quickly put his hand down, enduring the sudden swelling sensation. He picked up some scrambled eggs with shredded meat with his chopsticks, put them into the bun, and ate slowly, bite by bite.

At this very moment, the little bean in his belly seemed to sense the presence of its other father and became a bit restless, but since the little bean was still small, the fetal movement wasn’t obvious.

Although the reaction in his abdomen was minimal, his bodily reaction was significant. A wave of nausea rushed up, prompting Xu Yanqing to immediately put down what he was holding and quickly walk aside to throw up.

Because Xu Yanqing had slept through the night, whatever he ate last night had long been digested. At this moment, he had only just eaten two bites, so there was not much to throw up; it was basically dry heaving, which made his eyes slightly red and watery.

Qi Chen glanced at Yin Yanjun thoughtfully, then quickly got up and walked to Xu Yanqing’s side, gently patting the back of the breathless Xu Yanqing.

“What’s wrong with your young master? Is he sick?” Yin Yuancheng stared at the continuously dry-heaving Xu Yanqing, then turned to poke the anxious Mu Yu.

Mu Yu didn’t answer him. He went to the kitchen to get warm water for the Young Master to rinse his mouth and then made some sweet water for Xu Yanqing to drink.

Xu Yanqing, who had returned to the table, had no desire to eat anything. He reluctantly drank a little more corn and mixed grain porridge, his delicate little face pale from vomiting.

Xu Yanqing was so exhausted that he couldn’t muster any strength, so after saying a few words to Yin Yanjun, he returned to his room to rest.

Xu Yanqing’s mind was very complex now. The little bean had only just begun to show, and he was already this uncomfortable. One could only imagine how difficult the rest of his pregnancy would be.

Then, thinking about Yin Yanjun sitting outside, Xu Yanqing started to get angry again. He was just an unlucky fellow; in his previous life, showing off his exam papers led to his sudden death from overwork. After transmigrating, he slept with someone on the very first day, and now he was even carrying this little burden in his belly. It was simply the absolute worst luck.

“Is Young Master Xu ill?” Yin Yanjun had heard the guards next door call Qi Chen “Young Doctor Qi” last night, and recalling Xu Yanqing’s recent behavior, he had some suspicions.

Yin Yuancheng looked at Yin Yanjun in surprise. His Majesty had always been cold and showed no interest in anyone or anything. This was the first time he had seen His Majesty actively inquire about someone’s physical condition.

Qi Chen, however, did not answer the question directly. Instead, he took a sip of water and then slowly said, “Taoist Master held a free clinic in Zhang Family Village yesterday, so you must also be skilled in medicine, right?”

Yin Yanjun subtly raised his eyes, looking at Qi Chen, who was testing him, but did not reply.

Qi Chen didn’t need Yin Yanjun’s answer. He simply continued, “If Taoist Master has time, perhaps you could take our Young Master’s pulse. After all, I am young and haven’t seen many cases. I’m quite helpless with Young Master’s condition. I imagine Taoist Master, being older, might be able to resolve Young Master’s illness.”

A mere young doctor dared to direct His Majesty to do something. Although His Majesty had not revealed his identity, Yin Yuancheng still felt a bit indignant. He opened his mouth to say something but saw His Majesty nod in agreement.

When Yin Yanjun knocked on the door, Xu Yanqing was sitting at his desk drawing. His only two hobbies were reading novels and doing handicrafts.

He had lived at his grandfather’s house for a while when he was a child. His grandfather was a very skilled carpenter, so he learned some crafts from him.

At this moment, he had a sudden idea and wanted to make a mechanical clock. The main reason was that he was usually bored in the yard, eating and sleeping. Sometimes when he woke up, he felt dizzy and couldn’t even figure out the time.

Upon hearing the knocking on the door, Xu Yanqing did not get up and let someone in directly.

Yin Yanjun pushed open the door and looked at the young man who was sitting in front of the desk with extreme seriousness. The young man seemed to have gained a little weight compared to the last time they met by chance at Su’s house, but his face was a little paler.

Feeling someone’s eyes on him, Xu Yanqing raised his head; his eyes fell on Yin Yanjun, who was standing at the door with an elegant demeanor and a face like a lily. He called out in surprise, “Taoist Master!”
