ATIMFL – Chapter 26

Unexpected Encounter

According to statistics, there are quite a few cases of omega sexual assault each year, and most of the perpetrators are not alphas, but betas, especially male betas.

Betas can’t leave marks on omegas, and there’s no pheromone residue. It’s also not easy for omegas to get pregnant by betas, making it difficult to gather evidence, which greatly facilitates their crimes. 【This only discusses omegas, not betas as examples】

Despite the country repeatedly increasing the penalties for sexual assault, some people still reach out with their claws.

Qin Mu was drugged and raped by that thug on a moonless night.

She was injected with a drug and dragged into an alley. She tried to escape and call for help, but was grabbed by the hair and pulled back. The hair tie was ripped from her hair and discarded on the ground.

Qin Mu wasn’t schizophrenic, but Qin Chao was indeed the embodiment of her revenge, a reflection of her inner self. When the plan started, Qin Mu used the thug as her first target.

She injected the thug with a drug, a muscle relaxant that would dissipate in the constantly moving bloodstream within a few hours, making it impossible to detect.

Before strangling the thug, Qin Mu thoroughly enjoyed his pathetic state, watching him grovel at her feet like a dog, watching him repent for his sins, watching him repeatedly tormented by the threat of death.

Li Chu stood in front of the full-length mirror, immersing herself in Qin Mu’s pain and hatred. Qin Chao had long existed in her imagination, and on the night of her suffering, Qin Chao materialized.

If Qin Chao really existed in the world, she would definitely… definitely be like this.

The girl’s face reflected in the mirror was like a pale sheet of paper, malice spreading like ink stains, her dark eyes filled with gloom, her lips stiffly upturned, revealing a chilling coldness.

The light suddenly flickered. Li Chu snapped back to reality, startled by her reflection.

She patted her cheeks, pulling herself out of character.

In the air-conditioned room in the middle of summer, Li Chu poured herself a cup of hot water to warm her chilled body. She sat on the sofa, her eyes continuing to follow the inky words.

The nurse and Qin Mu, in fact, had no overt conflict. No matter how anyone investigated, they would appear to be strangers who happened to meet.

But the truth, of course, wasn’t so simple.

As the investigation deepened, the forensic doctor discovered during the autopsy that the nurse had undergone plastic surgery. According to tests, she and the thug were related; based on their ages, she should be the thug’s older sister.

That also meant that what she said about the thug before her death was a lie, but what the truth was, the dead couldn’t speak.

Li Rui’s adoptive father was the director of a private plastic surgery hospital, and the perfectly preserved note found in the nurse’s home dragged Li Rui’s adoptive father into the spotlight.

The nurse was actually Qin Mu’s first pawn. She was inextricably linked to Li Rui’s adoptive father and Qin Mu’s plan, but unforeseen circumstances led Qin Mu to change her plan in her resentment.

Qin Mu’s revenge was never a solo act. Seven years was enough for her to cultivate many helpers and lay down hidden pieces. She didn’t plan to deal with the nurse herself.

Qin Mu and her mother had once helped a juvenile delinquent involved in a robbery. The teenager, out of so-called brotherhood loyalty, had participated in the robbery. After being released, his only family, his grandmother, had passed away. Qin Mu and her mother took care of the grandmother’s funeral arrangements and looked after the teenager after his release.

For this kindness, he was willing to repay them. A year after Qin Mu’s mother passed away, Qin Mu had him stay close to the nurse for three years, and then, when the time was right, kill her.

On the night the nurse died, Qin Mu watched the live stream of the death with a smile, and the next day, she appeared at the police station again, confused and fragile, pleading with the officers to find her missing sister.

Li Chu’s fingertips moved across the black text, as if touching the soul within the story.

Qin Mu was a dark pool, and for Li Chu to become her, she could only sink.

Tang Congnan called the next day, saying that the time and place for dinner with Director Ji Yun and Writer San Qiu had been finalized for the day after tomorrow evening.

Li Chu softly agreed, and for a moment, only the sound of breathing could be heard on both ends of the phone.

“Xiao Chu, what’s wrong? Why are you like this?”

Tang Congnan subconsciously felt something was off. Given Li Chu’s personality, she shouldn’t be so calm and quiet. It felt strange and even a little frightening that she hadn’t said anything after replying.

Li Chu’s reply was listless: “Nothing, just stayed up late studying the script, a bit tired.”

“You don’t have to work so hard. Your health is important. Don’t get too immersed in the role.”

Tang Congnan had also read the script and knew the protagonist’s situation. He didn’t want Li Chu to think too deeply and fall into it.

“I know. By the way, Brother Nan, can you do me a favor?”

Li Chu perked up, her eyes shining as she made the request.

Last night, while researching, Li Chu found someone she really wanted to meet. The person’s photo was online. Even after being arrested, the young man’s eyes held a contempt for the law.

“Go to prison? To see that person?!”

Tang Congnan’s voice rose, as if he wanted to climb through the phone and pull Li Chu’s ear.

The person Li Chu wanted to meet was Chen Qiu, a serial killer who shocked the nation two years ago. He wore the halo of a genius alpha teenager, but was a complete sociopath.

He committed six crimes in four years. In the last case, he exposed the body to provoke the police, and while the police were searching for evidence, he committed two more crimes. Finally, a veteran detective discovered a clue and arrested him.

Li Chu wanted to meet such a dangerous person? Tang Congnan felt like he was about to have a heart attack, even though he didn’t have any heart problems.

“Yes, please, Brother Nan. It’s very important. I really want to get this role, and I have to understand more.”

Chen Qiu’s act of provoking the police and even playing them around was similar to Qin Mu in a way. Li Chu really wanted to observe him.

She wanted to know what the eyes of a murderer who toyed with human lives looked like.

Chen Qiu was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve. Li Chu checked the time; his execution date was approaching.

“I’ll contact the company and see what can be done.”

Tang Congnan sighed. He could feel Li Chu’s urgency through the phone. How could he not help?

“You’re the best, Brother Nan!”

Li Chu’s sweet words coaxed Tang Congnan into a cheerful mood. Seeing that Li Chu’s spirits seemed to have returned, he went to find a way for her.

Tang Congnan actually managed to get Li Chu this opportunity, not through the company, but through his own network.

A newspaper had obtained an interview opportunity. Tang Congnan knew the reporter, so Li Chu got the chance to be the reporter’s assistant, allowing her to get close to Chen Qiu.

Li Chu called the reporter Sister Meng. Before they left, Sister Meng repeatedly warned, “You can’t interrupt, and you can’t ask random questions, okay?”

Li Chu nodded like a pecking chicken, saying, “I promise not to interrupt, but when you’re resting or finished, can I ask a couple of questions? You can record it.”

Sister Meng asked her what questions she wanted to ask, thought for a moment, and nodded.

The prison gates opened, and a sense of oppression washed over them.

After the interview, the sky outside was clear, but Li Chu still felt a lingering chill.

She returned home and, as if enlightened, immersed herself in the role. She rehearsed repeatedly, looking at her bloodless face in the mirror, layers of images flashing before her eyes.

Her nerves screamed, raising a red alert. Li Chu hurriedly ate something and fell into an exhausted sleep.

The dream vividly replayed the scenes from the day. Li Chu saw those cold, arrogant, contemptuous eyes that didn’t seem human.

Faced with Sister Meng’s questions about whether he regretted his actions, whether he wanted to go out, and whether he had anything to say to the victims’ families or friends, Chen Qiu answered with disinterest.

It was clear that this vicious serial killer hadn’t repented for his crimes in two years of prison life, because he felt no guilt at all. He divided himself, a genius, and those inferior to him into two different worlds, considering himself a god among the expendables of lower dimensions.

Sister Meng was supposed to remain calm, but she was disgusted by Chen Qiu’s words, so in the end, she sneered, saying that he was still locked up by justice.

Chen Qiu, however, said nonchalantly that it was just that his previous self wasn’t meticulous enough. If he could live, he guaranteed he could do better.

That was pure malice laid bare. Li Chu also heard the voice coming from her own mouth.

“What did you feel when you were planning and carrying out the murders?”

“What was your mood when you achieved your goal?”

“What were your thoughts when you saw those people fall into the mystery traps you set?”

Chen Qiu seemed more willing to answer these questions. His eyes, gleaming with excitement and intoxication, seemed to peel away Li Chu’s mask, her skin, reaching straight into her brain.

Li Chu woke up from her dream with a start.

She sat up in bed, wiping the cold sweat from her forehead.

—”Two years ago, you would have been the kind of prey I’d like.”

These were Chen Qiu’s words as he stared at her when she left.

Li Chu pressed her stomach, feeling nauseous. The chilling sensation clung to her like a leech.

The curtains were open, but the room was dark. Tonight, the clouds were thick and the moon couldn’t shine through.

Loneliness, mixed with a hint of panic, surged towards Li Chu like a black tide. She clutched her phone tightly, but didn’t know who she could confide in about her current indescribable feelings.

There were no familiar friends here. She didn’t want to bother her agent or assistant, let alone other less familiar people.

There was ‘Mom’ in her contacts, but that was the original owner’s mother, not hers, and this mother had already remarried.

Li Chu hadn’t considered Ning Manqing. She didn’t want to transmit negative energy to her, nor did she feel the need to rely on her for such a small matter.

Li Chu just sat quietly, letting the current emotions engulf her.

In this quiet, dark night, the phone in Li Chu’s hand suddenly lit up in a moment she held no expectations for.

【Teacher Ning】: Good night.

The black tide retreated and dispersed as if encountering a natural enemy. Li Chu felt a pang of sadness.

She didn’t reply, just watched the light dim with time, suddenly extinguishing at a certain moment.

At this moment, her loneliness and vulnerability also dissipated with the light.

She suddenly thought of a short poem:

—”At this moment, I feel your gaze upon my heart, like the silent morning sunlight falling upon a harvested, lonely field.”

Li Chu slept well that night.
