ATISIUP Chapter 43

In the morning, as usual, Lin Huanyan fed Dabao and Xiaobao their milk bowls.

The two fluffy black-and-white furballs hugged bowls bigger than their heads, drinking milk noisily. It was truly an amusing sight.

Lin Huanyan couldn’t resist rubbing them a few times and even pinched their little tails, hoping for some reaction.

But the two little darlings were completely absorbed in their milk, exposing their gluttonous nature, and ignored their owner entirely.

Lin Huanyan could only smile helplessly and let them enjoy their feast.

Since they had grown considerably, their old nests were no longer suitable. Lin Huanyan had ordered larger nests online—a separate one for each beast.

She had also ordered a variety of snacks produced on Planet Pika, which were said to be snow beast cubs’ favorites.

While Dabao and Xiaobao were drinking milk, Lin Huanyan unpacked a delivery that had just arrived the previous day.

The two snow beast nests, one gray and one blue, were semi-enclosed with a soft mat of unknown material on the bottom. The description said it could automatically adjust temperature, staying warm in winter and cool in summer.

The nests were shaped like small houses, with a fuzzy ball hanging from the roof, presumably for the snow beasts to play with.

The package also included a snack set, containing snow-crisp fruits, canned bamboo, and stick-shaped beast milk puree.

Curious about what was inside, Lin Huanyan opened one. A fresh bamboo fragrance immediately filled the air.

Before she could react, two little furballs appeared in her arms, jostling and wriggling with their little tails wagging, trying to reach the can in her hands.

Lin Huanyan sighed in surrender. “Alright, I get it. This is definitely the snow beast cubs’ favorite snack. Just the smell brought them over.”

But their pitiful eyes, so eager yet careful not to scratch her with their claws, made her give in completely.

She quickly divided the contents into their bowls, giving half to each.

Watching them eat so happily was truly heartwarming. No wonder so many people loved keeping pets, Lin Huanyan thought.

Suddenly, an unexpected situation arose. Dabao, being greedier, finished first and shuffled over to Xiaobao’s side, whining for more. Xiaobao, unwilling to share, pushed Dabao’s head away. But Dabao persistently squeezed back, acting like a rascal.

Annoyed, Xiaobao swatted at Dabao. It was usually nothing serious—they loved roughhousing.

But in that instant, something unexpected happened. Before Lin Huanyan could react, Dabao disappeared.

Where was Dabao? Her big, fluffy Dabao?

Lin Huanyan forgot about the commotion and hurriedly crawled up from the carpet to check.

She picked up a bewildered Xiaobao, still staring at its own paw in confusion, and began searching everywhere—under bowls, nests, and even the sofa.

But there was no trace of Dabao anywhere.

What had happened? Where could Dabao have gone? Lin Huanyan’s mind raced with worry. She had raised them from eggs and already considered them family. Losing one was unbearable.

Even after turning the entire living room upside down, she couldn’t find a single strand of panda fur.

As Lin Huanyan stood there at a loss, she suddenly felt a tug on her pants.

Looking down, she saw Xiaobao pulling at her pant leg with its paw.

Thinking it was scared because its sibling had disappeared, Lin Huanyan quickly scooped it up to comfort it.

But once in her arms, Xiaobao wouldn’t settle down, wriggling to climb out of her embrace.

Lin Huanyan’s heart ached even more, and tears almost fell. Dabao and Xiaobao might often compete for attention and snacks, but they were always close.

Whenever Lin Huanyan held them, it was always one beast on each side. Now Xiaobao was leaving room for its brother.

Lin Huanyan looked at Xiaobao with concern and noticed a faint blue glow emanating from its paw.

Just as she thought she might have imagined it and blinked her eyes, her other arm suddenly felt heavier. Staggering slightly under the weight, Lin Huanyan found herself face-to-face with Dabao, who had suddenly appeared, looking completely bewildered.

Lin Huanyan: Why did Dabao suddenly appear?

Dabao: Wasn’t I just asking my little brother for some bamboo? How did I end up in my owner’s arms?

Both Lin Huanyan and Dabao were completely baffled by the unexpected situation, while Xiaobao, the culprit, remained calm and even snuggled in her arms with a smug expression.

That little face looked quite proud.

Finally snapping out of her confusion, Lin Huanyan set both pets on the sofa. Grabbing Dabao, she thoroughly examined him, even parting his fur to make sure nothing was wrong. Finding no issues, she then turned her attention to Xiaobao. Remembering the blue glow she had seen earlier and connecting it with Xiaobao’s proud demeanor, she quickly pieced it together: Xiaobao was showing off.

And what was it showing off? There wasn’t much doubt—it must have been bragging about making Dabao disappear and then reappear.

Though a bit annoyed at Xiaobao for giving her such a fright, Lin Huanyan still checked it over for any anomalies. Finding none, she placed it back on the sofa. Soon, the two little ones were playing together as if nothing had happened.

Lin Huanyan’s frazzled mind finally calmed down, and she recalled what the store owner had told her when she bought the snow beast eggs.

The owner had explained that snow beast eggs with colorful patterns were laid by snow beasts with special abilities, and there was a chance that the hatchlings could inherit these abilities. However, the owner also said the chances were slim and advised buyers not to get their hopes up. Since Lin Huanyan had been busy and her two pets had never shown anything unusual, she had forgotten all about it.

But now it seemed Xiaobao had awakened its abilities. When Dabao pressured it for food, Xiaobao must have used its powers in desperation. Judging by its initial bewildered expression, it probably didn’t even realize what it had done. But once it figured it out, it must have felt proud enough to show it off to her.

It was indeed an impressive ability, but Xiaobao, you really scared me!

Though still shaken, Lin Huanyan resigned herself to her fate and got up to search for information on the interstellar web.

Ordinary websites didn’t have much useful information. After much effort, she finally found a promising source, only to be greeted by a message:

“To continue reading, please make a payment.”

How could she not read it? She paid the fee, and the detailed information became available. After reading it thoroughly, Lin Huanyan gained a deeper understanding of the snow beast species.

However, this alone wasn’t enough. Glancing at the two carefree little ones playing on the sofa, she realized she needed to figure out several things: What exactly was Xiaobao’s ability? What was its use? Where had Dabao been sent? Was that place dangerous?

And what about Dabao? The information mentioned that snow beasts might awaken abilities before reaching adulthood. She needed to keep an eye on Dabao to prevent any more mishaps.

Lin Huanyan decided to contact the owner who had sold her Dabao and Xiaobao.

The owner had claimed that their family had been in the snow beast business for generations and could address various issues during their growth. Since Dabao and Xiaobao had always been healthy, Lin Huanyan had rarely contacted the owner, except for occasional consultations about pet food.

Now that there was a real issue, she decided it was time to ask for help.

The owner was very approachable. Upon hearing that her snow beasts were having issues, he immediately reassured her and asked her to describe the situation in detail so he could help analyze it.

Lin Huanyan recounted everything that had happened that day.

Owner: “This is good news! You don’t need to worry too much. Snow beasts expend a lot of energy when they first awaken their abilities. Just make sure to feed them well over the next few days to replenish their strength.”

“As for what ability it has, I can’t say for sure. Some evidence suggests that a snow beast’s ability might be related to its parents. Do you still have the pedigree certificate I gave you? Check the lineage chart on it and see what’s written there.”

Following his instructions, Lin Huanyan dug out the documents. She had originally dismissed them as too lengthy to read, but now she had to go through them carefully.

Page by page, she finally found Xiaobao’s pedigree certificate. Looking at the lineage chart, she saw that the father snow beast had fire-type abilities, while the mother had wind-type abilities. Going further up the lineage, the paternal grandfather also had fire-type abilities, the paternal grandmother had none, and the maternal side had no abilities until an anomaly occurred with the mother.

Lin Huanyan relayed the findings to the owner.

Owner: “Ah, I see. That makes it tricky since there’s no direct connection to the grandparents. Let me think…”

The owner pondered for a while.

“Alright, is it convenient for you if we come over? We can bring equipment to test it. Situations like this need to be assessed in person.”

Lin Huanyan agreed. Having a professional take a look was reassuring. However, glancing around her home, she realized it wasn’t easily accessible to just anyone.

She asked the owner for his address and decided to arrange transportation to bring them over.

After confirming the specific time and location with the boss, she ended the call.

She immediately messaged Gu Yincheng and briefly explained what had happened.

Gu Yincheng reassured her, saying he would handle everything and told her to relax at home.

Lin Huanyan felt her anxious and restless heart settle down temporarily upon reading his words.

She looked at the two little creatures still playing without a care, chasing each other’s tails.

The belated joy finally bubbled up—her Snow Beast babies had awakened their abilities. Such a small chance, yet it happened.

Lin Huanyan rubbed the two little ones, grabbing one in each hand, and brought them over to their food bowls.

Following the boss’s instructions, she filled their bowls with nutritious beast feed and didn’t forget to add the special treats she had bought. She even cut up some of her homegrown zero-pollution watermelon, ensuring both the little one and the big one got a share.
