Cen Lingqiu, a veteran agent of the Book Transmigration Bureau, takes on one last mission before retirement: to stop the female lead from committing suicide.
The female lead is beautiful and frail, disabled in both legs. The male lead treats her as a stand-in for the woman he can never forget, locking her away in his mountainside manor and keeping her in total seclusion. Cen Lingqiu is transmigrated into the body of the male lead’s older sister—a villainous side character who relentlessly torments the frail female lead.
The System informs her that the female lead has developed severe self-destructive tendencies. To advance the plot, she must prevent the female lead’s suicide and lower her self-destruction value.
Yu Mingjiao is beautiful but extremely world-weary and gloomy. Dutifully, Cen Lingqiu ignores her coldness, taking her to watch sunsets, nursing her back to health, and showering her with all kinds of kindness.
After faking her death to complete the mission, Cen Lingqiu is on the verge of retirement when the System informs her that the female lead has relapsed. Her mission is a failure.
Cen Lingqiu has no choice but to return to Yu Mingjiao’s side, only to die again by accident.
When she returns to Yu Mingjiao’s side for a third time, the once gloomy and taciturn female lead has completely descended into madness. Mentally unstable and plagued by hallucinations, she develops an intense possessiveness over Cen Lingqiu, whispering in a neurotic voice:
“Sister Lingqiu, if you leave me again, I’ll kill myself.”
Cen Lingqiu: “…”
She realizes the plot has gone completely off the rails; the female lead is insane.
Yu Mingjiao finds Cen Lingqiu hypocritical and disgusting. She rejects the woman’s kindness, wishing only for her death.
Later, when Cen Lingqiu really does die in front of her three times, it’s as if Yu Mingjiao dies with her each time.
Throughout her life, Yu Mingjiao has hated this woman most of all, but she has also loved her most of all. She never imagined that one day, she would be the one crying and begging her not to go.
She would die.
A gloomy, disabled, and fragile younger beauty who is also dangerously unstable.
A cool, indifferent, fiercely protective, and emotionally stable older sister figure.
Notes:
- The younger partner (Yu Mingjiao) is the top. Her legs are disabled and the condition is incurable.
- There is an eight-year age gap (20 & 28). Both are initially straight and fall for each other.
- Yu Mingjiao has no real relationship with the male lead.
