BMLVS – Chapter 4

The manor was built on a mountainside, sparsely populated. In the vast estate, there was only one elderly, mute maid. Cen Lingqiu and the maid took Yu Mingjiao to her room, and then she asked the maid to prepare some burn ointment.

Both Yu Mingjiao and Cen Lingqiu were soaked. After changing into dry clothes, Cen Lingqiu began to help Yu Mingjiao change.

The moment the clothes came off, Cen Lingqiu had only one thought.

The female lead was truly too thin.

Her skin was overly pale, and there was almost no flesh on her body, with her collarbones jutting out sharply. Even more startling was the scattering of numerous bruises on her body. Some looked like old injuries, leaving faint marks, while others were clearly new. These bruises on her snow-white skin looked somewhat horrifying.

She wondered how many of these injuries were inflicted by “Lin Qiu.”

Cen Lingqiu felt no great emotional stir. She had played many roles over the years and had witnessed the tragic circumstances of many protagonists; her emotions had become numb and indifferent.

She was just taking care of her in a business-like manner. Just then, the maid brought the medicine. Cen Lingqiu was skilled at treating wounds, so she personally applied the ointment for Yu Mingjiao.

The skin on Yu Mingjiao’s palm was already broken, the entire hand red, swollen, and festering. The edges of the burn were soaked white by the rainwater, a sight that was truly hard to look at.

While applying the medicine, perhaps feeling the pain, Yu Mingjiao couldn’t help but let out a few soft moans in her daze, her brow slightly furrowed.

Cen Lingqiu slowed her movements.

After treating the wound, Yu Mingjiao was still not awake. Cen Lingqiu covered her with the quilt and left the room.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw the Mute Maid standing at the entrance. The maid nodded at her respectfully. Cen Lingqiu gave a polite “mm” and walked towards the original owner’s room.

After a few steps, she thought of something and turned to look at Yu Mingjiao’s room. She saw the maid’s eyes fixed on the room, and then she took out her phone and started typing.

Cen Lingqiu remembered that this maid was one of the Male Lead’s people. Every time “Lin Qiu” finished bullying the female lead, she would send a picture of the female lead’s pitiful state to the Male Lead, who would then arrive at the manor like a pretentious savior.

This maid would also occasionally help “Lin Qiu” bully the female lead, not cooking for her, and taking advantage of her disability to take away her wheelchair, leaving her to sit in the courtyard in the cold wind.

The Male Lead knew all of this, but he chose to ignore it. He was a cold, selfish, and ill-tempered paranoid type. In the early stages, he completely treated the female lead as an unimportant substitute, not caring at all about her physical well-being, only whether she obeyed him or not.

Cen Lingqiu remembered that the next plot point to occur was the Male Lead coming to the manor as usual, continuing to play the gentleman, and expecting the female lead to rely on him as before. However, the female lead, using her burned hand as an excuse, would want to leave the manor to go to the hospital. The Male Lead disliked the female lead leaving his control. He also sensed her intentions, so he had a fit of madness, locking her in the underground storage room and forbidding anyone from seeing her.

And the female lead, who was afraid of the dark, was locked up for three days. When she was let out, she was in a daze, like a branch drained of life, becoming even more gaunt, and she didn’t speak a single word for nearly a month.

When Cen Lingqiu first received this mission, even though she was used to the love stories in many novel worlds, she was truly shocked by the concept of love in this world.

“Love is truly a painful torment.”

Cen Lingqiu couldn’t help but scoff at the System when she received the mission.

And right now, the female lead’s mental state was naturally unable to withstand the Male Lead’s madness; it would only cause her self-destructive tendencies to skyrocket.

Cen Lingqiu turned around, walked up to the maid in a few steps, took her phone, and deleted the contents of the chat box while the maid stared in bewilderment.

“From now on, you don’t need to tell my younger brother about her affairs,” Cen Lingqiu said lightly. “You’re getting old, it’s about time you retired to enjoy your life. Go back and spend time with your children and grandchildren tomorrow.”

The maid’s eyes widened, unable to believe she had been fired.

Cen Lingqiu gave her a distant, polite smile and turned to leave.

The maid watched her retreating back, finding it completely incomprehensible.

Not only had this young lady lost her usual arrogant and domineering air today, but she had also, as if seeing a ghost, personally taken care of Yu Mingjiao, even though she had been wishing that girl dead.

The elderly maid could not understand the thoughts of young people.

Yu Mingjiao slept for nearly two days after fainting. If the System hadn’t detected that the female lead was only unconscious due to extreme weakness, Cen Lingqiu would have almost thought she had contracted some serious illness.

When she woke up, the torrential rain outside the window was still raging, splattering against the windowpanes with a loud, clattering noise.

Yu Mingjiao opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling, her eyes woodenly fixed on a point in the void. She remained numb for a long time before slowly recovering from her muddled consciousness.

The glaring lights, the incessant sound of rain, all reminded her that she was still alive, still breathing slowly.

She thought she had died.

Strange, why was she still alive?

As soon as she opened her eyes, all that awaited her was inexplicable violent abuse and verbal insults, no freedom, only being caged like a stray dog with broken legs every day.

Loneliness, and no love.

Only the damn, seemingly endless pain.

How truly frustrating.

There were footsteps at the door, and then it opened. Cen Lingqiu walked into the room.

“You’re awake?” Cen Lingqiu was a little surprised. “You’ve slept for three days.”

At her arrival, Yu Mingjiao’s expression showed no ripple of emotion. Her dark pupils were gloomy and sunken, like black holes, filled only with a damp, cold aura of death.

“…Have you thought of a new way to torture me?” Yu Mingjiao didn’t even look at her, her tone unusually calm. Because she had been unconscious for so long, her voice was a little low and hoarse, very soft and weak.

“What?” Her voice was too weak, and Cen Lingqiu didn’t quite hear what she said.

Yu Mingjiao slowly blinked and said in a self-deprecating, hopeless tone, “If you want to torture me, just get it over with. I want to sleep.”

She knew with absolute clarity that this woman, Lin Qiu, had dragged her back from the rainstorm and stopped her from killing herself only because she wanted to continue humiliating her.

Yu Mingjiao was very tired now, and very hungry. She just wanted to sleep.

As long as she was asleep, she would forget everything, whether it was hunger or disgusting people.

Cen Lingqiu hummed in agreement, not refuting her. “Fine.”

The electronic voice in her mind appeared again.

【Host, are you crazy? The female lead is at her most vulnerable right now. How can you say something like that instead of comforting her? What if she gets desperate again?】

The System accompanied the Book Transmigration Bureau employees on their missions. Each system’s personality program was customized according to the host’s character. Cen Lingqiu was quiet and reserved, disliking noise and talkativeness, so her system rarely appeared.

Cen Lingqiu couldn’t be bothered to reply to the System.

The female lead’s hatred and rejection of the original owner were at a high level of animosity. In her perception, the original owner would only torture her maliciously, especially enjoying the sight of her miserable and pained appearance.

Comfort, such a considerate service, when performed by the original owner, would only make the female lead think she was devising another kind of malicious humiliation.

Cen Lingqiu had just taken on this role. Being too hasty would be counterproductive; she could only take it slow.

“You’re coming downstairs with me to eat.” Cen Lingqiu leaned against the window, her posture casual.

Yu Mingjiao guessed that this woman probably wanted to torture her with food, just like before.

Like the last time, when this woman Lin Qiu knew she hated spicy food, she had forcefully stuffed extremely spicy food into her mouth, forcing her to eat it. As a result, her stomach problems flared up, and she was in pain for two whole days.

Yu Mingjiao’s eyes were filled with gloom. She clenched her fists, her nails digging tightly into her palms. A sharp pain shot through her injured hand.

She truly detested Lin Qiu.

Every minute, every second, she wanted Lin Qiu to die.

Cen Lingqiu’s sharp eyes noticed that Yu Mingjiao’s hand by her side was trembling slightly.

She frowned, strode forward, and grabbed the female lead’s hand. Then she forcefully pried open her fingers. A faint redness seeped through the gauze.

She then went to pry open her other hand. The palm was marked with red imprints from being squeezed, but it wasn’t bleeding.

Cen Lingqiu hadn’t expected her simple sentence to drive the female lead into a frenzy. The character of “Lin Qiu” was truly a troublesome figure in front of the female lead.

This work mission seemed like it wouldn’t be so easy.

Yu Mingjiao pulled her hand back and said coldly, “Don’t touch me.”

Her words were filled with undisguised disgust and revulsion.

Cen Lingqiu ignored her temper, just sighing with some worry, “The wound… has probably opened up again.”

“So what,” Yu Mingjiao sneered. “Isn’t this what you wanted? Don’t you just hope my wound festers and I die?”

“Don’t randomly speculate about other people’s thoughts.” Cen Lingqiu picked up the medicine box in the room on her own, squatted down by the bed, and tried to help her remove the bandage.

When Yu Mingjiao got stubborn, she just wouldn’t let her do it.

“Stop pretending to be a kind, understanding person.” Yu Mingjiao’s mouth twitched strangely as she stared straight at her. “Lin Qiu, you’re truly nauseating like this. Did you know? The moment you touch me, I feel so disgusted I want to throw up.”

Yu Mingjiao waited for Cen Lingqiu’s anger and shame, and prepared herself for the impending violence.

But Cen Lingqiu just thought for a few seconds and murmured in a low voice, “Is that so?”

So the female lead’s aversion to the original owner has reached this level.

Cen Lingqiu stood up. “That’s an objective fact, I won’t deny your words. Well, since you’re repulsed by my touch, you can treat the wound yourself.”

After speaking, afraid that she wouldn’t be good at treating wounds, she even carefully explained the application order for each type of medicine, as well as the precautions.

Her voice was unhurried, her eyes calm, and her whole person showed no emotion, surrounded by a very cool and detached aura.

Yu Mingjiao had almost never seen her with this kind of attitude, nor had she ever heard her speak in such a calm tone.

Lin Qiu was always arrogant and haughty, her words always harsh and selfish. In front of her, she always had a condescending, self-centered, and domineering demeanor.

After Cen Lingqiu finished explaining, she continued, “Come down to eat after you’re done. I’ll take you downstairs later. Or I can bring it up to you, you choose. If you’re not out of the room in fifteen minutes, I’ll bring the food up.”

Yu Mingjiao’s expression was gloomy, not wanting to talk to her.

“You must eat.” Cen Lingqiu’s lips curved slightly. “If you don’t eat, you’ll feel hungry, and an empty stomach is very painful.”

Cen Lingqiu left the room.

Yu Mingjiao couldn’t understand why this woman would suddenly say such weak, child-like words to her, and even less why she didn’t get angry at all, but instead respected her words and left without doing anything.

Of course, she didn’t believe this woman had realized her mistakes. On the contrary, Yu Mingjiao only found her even more hypocritical.

The moment Cen Lingqiu left, Yu Mingjiao felt her breathing become much smoother.

Being in the same room with that woman made her feel suffocated.

Yu Mingjiao looked at the medicine on the bedside table and remembered Cen Lingqiu’s instructions just now, a wave of nausea rising in her stomach.

She expressionlessly threw all the medicine into the trash can by the bed.

Yu Mingjiao unwrapped the gauze on her palm and found that the wound had already healed a lot. It wasn’t as serious as it had been that day; most of it had already started to scab over. It was just that the edge had been scratched open by her just now, bleeding a little.

She didn’t think Cen Lingqiu had done this; she would absolutely never do such a thing.

It was probably the maid at home who, fearing she would be fired if the wound became serious, had “kindly” treated her wound.
