Yan Yu looked at He Wan with disgust in his eyes. He stepped closer, and He Wan struggled even more violently. After He Yue’s accident, Yan Yu had come to her, intending to kill her to avenge He Yue. It was only because her mother burst in that she and the child in her womb managed to survive.
But soon after, news of Yan Yu’s plane crash came, and while she felt a sense of loss, she also breathed a sigh of relief. No matter how much she had once been infatuated with Yan Yu, the fact that he wanted to kill her had cooled that infatuation. By occupying the identity of Yan Yu’s wife, she felt she had won over He Yue.
“What ghost? I’m alive, and Ah Yue is alive too.”
“Hah… hah…” He Wan opened her mouth wide, but it wasn’t a laugh; she was gasping for breath. The expression on her face was extremely complicated. “How is that possible, how is that possible… Clearly… Second Brother clearly said he was pushed off…”
“Slap!” He Wan’s face was slapped to the side. Yan Yu might not have initially intended to hit her, but He Wan’s words had enraged him. “Just as expected, it’s you guys…”
From He Yue’s departure abroad to his mountain climbing accident, everything had been orchestrated by someone behind the scenes. It wasn’t a simple accident. He Yue was experienced in wilderness survival; that snowy mountain was nothing to him. Yan Yu had never believed it was an accident from the very beginning.
“Ahhh…” He Wan didn’t seem to care about Yan Yu’s slap. She started screaming wildly, even though her voice was hoarse and unpleasant. “Not dead, not dead… All these years, you’ve been together?”
He Wan’s gritted teeth look was quite terrifying; even now, she still wished for He Yue’s death, still wanted He Yue to die.
He Wan’s gnashing teeth made her look terrifying. Even now, she wished for He Yue’s death, still wanting him dead.
“Why isn’t he dead? Why isn’t he dead? He should die, he should die!”
He was obviously no longer part of the He family, so why did he still have to come back? Why did he still have to take everything she had?
Yan Yu raised his hand, seemingly ready to strike again, but he knew that He Wan would never repent in this lifetime. He took a step back in disgust. “We will live, and live well. And you… will wish you were dead.”
It wasn’t that Yan Yu didn’t want to settle the accounts; he was just waiting for He Yue’s condition to improve before he had the energy to deal with them.
“Gag her.”
Yan Sui frowned slightly and then spoke. His men stepped forward and sealed He Wan’s mouth with tape, instantly silencing the noisy warehouse.
Yan Sui’s gaze shifted away from He Wan, and he glanced at his watch. He was somewhat worried about Meng Ting, afraid that he might wake up too early and find him gone.
Fortunately, he and Yan Yu didn’t have to wait too long. Ten minutes later, a car stopped in front of the warehouse, and Xiao Zi, who had secretly come to Haicheng to pick up He Wan, was brought in with a sack over his head.
“Beat him up!”
Yan Sui commanded. Only Yan Yu remained still by his side, while the others rushed forward to beat Xiao Zi mercilessly.
The previous beating hadn’t frightened Xiao Zi; instead, it had fueled his resentment, leading him to devise an even more sinister plan.
This time, Yan Sui was determined to make it an unforgettable experience for him.
Xiao Zi could only manage to scream in agony, unable to even form a single coherent question.
“Wuwuwu…” He Wan, still caught up in her frenzied emotions, was also frightened, but all she could do was whimper, unable to make any other sound.
Yan Sui raised his hand, and his men dispersed. He stood up, pulling a fruit knife from his pocket.
He walked over to Xiao Zi, who had just had the sack removed from his head.
Xiao Zi’s hands were tied behind his back, several of his teeth had been knocked out, and his face was bruised and swollen, making him look utterly miserable.
Yet, as Yan Sui approached step by step, Xiao Zi was still scared to the point of trembling. Xiao Zi was cruel and vicious, but his cruelty and malice could only hide behind women, scheming with underhanded tricks. While he himself had never truly suffered, and when it came to a real confrontation, he didn’t even have the strength to fight back.
“You used this knife to hurt Meng Ting,”
Yan Sui said, smiling at Xiao Zi. But then, in the next moment, he plunged the fruit knife into Xiao Zi’s stomach.
“Ahhh!” Xiao Zi screamed in agony, his body drenched in cold sweat, his lips trembling. “Yan… Yan Sui, I was wrong… please spare me, I don’t want to die… I…”
“Don’t worry, one stab won’t kill you.”
With those words, Yan Sui pulled the knife out of Xiao Zi’s flesh with a sickening squelch. Before Xiao Zi could even scream again, Yan Sui stabbed him twice more in quick succession. Xiao Zi’s face turned pale with terror, his entire body shaking uncontrollably, as if he truly believed Yan Sui was going to kill him.
But Yan Sui wasn’t going to dirty his hands over someone like Xiao Zi. He stood up and handed the knife to Yan Yu.
“Don’t kill him…”
Yan Yu nodded and stepped forward. Xiao Zi stared at him for a while before realizing that the person in front of him was now Yan Yu. “You, you…”
However, Yan Yu had no intention of talking to him. His gaze fell on Xiao Zi’s legs, and with two swift strikes, he crippled them.
Both Yan Sui and Yan Yu were ruthless, one more brutal than the other, treating human life as if it were nothing. But in truth, it was He Wan and Xiao Zi who had first disregarded human life. They were the ones who had harbored malicious intentions, and now they were simply reaping what they had sown.
As Yan Yu dealt with Xiao Zi, Yan Sui turned his attention to He Wan. He suddenly smiled, his lips curling. “You sent your other lover away. Don’t worry, I’ll send you to reunite with him.”
He Wan’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Yan Sui, but Yan Sui didn’t say anything more to her. He continued walking toward the door.
“Once he’s bled enough, strip him naked and dump him at the hospital entrance.”
Yan Sui wasn’t afraid of letting the people of the Xiao family in Beicheng know that he was the one who had crippled Xiao Zi. The conflict between two top-tier wealthy families, even a single misstep, could cause significant upheaval.
But Yan Sui didn’t care. Even if it temporarily put the Yan family at a disadvantage, he was confident that the Yan family would rise again in the shortest time possible. If the Yan family couldn’t be of use to him at a time like this, then what was the point of him being the patriarch of the family?
As for He Wan, her other lover was merely a thirty-year-old man she had kept around to alleviate her loneliness over the years. He Wan had treated him quite well, even buying him a house and a car. Despite everything that had happened, she showed no intention of involving him. In fact, she even going as far as buying him a plane ticket to leave Haicheng.
But it wasn’t up to her to decide whether he would be involved or not.
Moreover, that lover didn’t love He Wan as much as she thought he did. Three years ago, he had secretly married and had children back in his hometown. After learning about He Wan’s current situation, how could that lover possibly fear her or have any lingering feelings for her?
It is impossible for Yan Sui to just let He Wan off so easily. While he wouldn’t personally do anything to her, he wouldn’t stop others from taking action either. She was burdened with a massive debt, and once any money appeared in her account, it would be immediately seized.
Unless her lover was still willing to support her, or unless Xiao Zi, out of lingering affection, could find her and take her away.
But for He Wan, whether it’s the former or the latter, both possibilities were equally remote. Whether she could ever return to Haicheng in her lifetime was uncertain, and if she did, she would be sent to an even more desperate place.

Yan Sui and Yan Yu returned to the Yan Residence. Around eleven o’clock at night, Yan Sui went back to his room. Meng Ting was still asleep. He didn’t approach immediately but went to the bathroom to take a shower, paying special attention to washing his hands. He had witnessed many times just how sensitive Meng Ting’s nose was.
After finishing his shower, he brought warm water and a towel, sat by the bed, and told Nanny Wang to go rest.
He gently wiped Meng Ting’s forehead and cheeks, then his neck, and finally his hands.
Meng Ting had been sleeping almost continuously since yesterday, except for the time he was awake in the afternoon. As Yan Sui wiped his face, Meng Ting began to stir.
His eyes were still closed, but his nose twitched first. “Did you take a shower?”
“Mm,” Yan Sui replied, leaning down to kiss the tip of Meng Ting’s nose, “You have to endure a few more days. You can’t shower until you’re fully healed.”
Yan Sui knew how much Meng Ting valued cleanliness. Seeing his slightly furrowed brows, Yan Sui moved his kisses upward, kissing away the lingering discomfort of waking up before finally pulling his lips away from Meng Ting’s face.
Meng Ting was fully awake now. His eyes were wide open, his long lashes fluttering. He reached up to wrap his arms around Yan Sui’s neck, nuzzling his cheek before asking, “Where did you go?”
If Yan Sui hadn’t gone out, he probably wouldn’t have showered so deliberately. By his count, he had already showered twice today.
Meng Ting continued sniffing around until Yan Sui gently took his earlobe into his mouth and skillfully licked it. Only then did Meng Ting completely give up the idea of getting to the bottom of things.
“I went out for a while while you were asleep. Do you want to know?”
Yan Sui shifted his body lower, carefully avoiding Meng Ting’s wounds as he pulled him into a full embrace.
Meng Ting didn’t seem uncomfortable with the embrace. He tilted his head to kiss Yan Sui’s cheek before answering, “Not really. I’m just glad you’re back. You said you’d sleep with me tonight.”
“I remember,” Yan Sui replied as he slowly sat up.
“If you have things to do during the day, go ahead. I’ll be fine at home.”
Meng Ting gave Yan Sui a soft smile, the gloom from taking the medicine earlier gone, his eyes clear and his smile bright.
“I’m already done. I’ll stay with you until you’re completely better.”
Meng Ting still had his doubts. He knew how busy Yan Sui usually was, but as Yan Sui’s hand, which had been gently caressing his cheek, suddenly moved to his lips, pressing lightly with his index finger, Meng Ting forgot what he was about to say.
He stuck out his tongue to lick Yan Sui’s fingertip, and when he noticed Yan Sui’s ears turning slightly red, his smile curved even more.
“Come here, I want another kiss.”
Meng Ting tilted his chin slightly, looking at Yan Sui with eager eyes. How could Yan Sui possibly refuse such a request from Meng Ting?
At first, Yan Sui would deliberately tried to control himself, ensuring Meng Ting could breathe smoothly. However, he likely overestimated his own restraint and underestimated Meng Ting’s clinginess. Every time Yan Sui pulled back, Meng Ting would press forward, his tongue exploring Yan Sui’s mouth with abandon. Sensing Yan Sui’s physical reaction, Meng Ting’s eyes curved with satisfaction, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
“Do you like it?” Meng Ting’s cheeks were slightly flushed, and his gaze carried a hint of shyness, yet his words remained as straightforward as ever.
