CAADTB Chapter 22

Purity

A dreamless night.

Shi Qi fluttered his eyelids, only then realizing that an entire night had passed.

A sliver of light filtered through the small gap in the curtains. After a night of torrential rain, the sunlight cast a faint halo into the room.

In this hazy moment, Shi Qi didn’t want to open his eyes. He was completely indulging in the cloud-like comfort that wrapped around him.

Since his differentiation, he hadn’t slept this well. Even though he was tightly confined in someone’s embrace, without the freedom to move, Shi Qi didn’t mind at all.

But after a while, being held so closely made him feel hot.

He tried to push back a little, but the person hugging him held firm, not budging an inch. Shi Qi’s hand slid downward, searching for a weaker spot, but all he touched were solid muscles.

Growing impatient, his hand slipped even lower.

Huh?

Something didn’t feel right.

He seemed to have touched the other person’s…!

Half-awake, Shi Qi had a vague sense that he’d done something wrong. His eyes snapped open.

He meant to pull his hand back, but in his panic, he accidentally gave it a squeeze.

Fuck…?!

Shi Qi cursed silently in despair.

With a faint grunt, the Alpha who had been sound asleep finally stirred.

Shang Sui’s eyelashes trembled, and his light-colored eyes opened slightly, gazing at him groggily.

That one glance sent a chill down Shi Qi’s spine, jolting him fully awake. He blurted out an apology, “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to! My hand moved faster than my brain!”

Shang Sui didn’t seem fully awake either, but being touched in such a sensitive spot clearly darkened his expression. A flicker of aggression passed through his brows and eyes.

“What are you doing…”

His voice was low. He met Shi Qi’s eyes for a brief moment, then suddenly flipped him over.

Now lying on his side with his back to Shang Sui, Shi Qi felt the Alpha’s hand pin down his slender waist with ease.

What’s going on?

Was he going to pinch him back? But this posture didn’t make sense…

Before Shi Qi could react, there was a sharp smack as a firm slap landed on his butt.

It didn’t exactly hurt, but the psychological impact was enormous. Half of Shi Qi’s body went numb; he was stunned for a full half minute.

H-he just got spanked by Shang Sui?

What the hell! Even Shi An had never hit him before!

Shi Qi kicked at the bed in frustration, caught between shame and fury, feeling like he was about to combust.

But remembering the sin he had just committed, he could only grit his teeth and mutter, “That should make us even, right?”

He twisted his body away from Shang Sui, but no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t escape. His body trembled slightly.

Shi Qi couldn’t believe it—was Shang Sui really going to hit him again?

But Shang Sui didn’t go in for another smack. Instead, he flipped Shi Qi over once more, pressing him face down into the bed.

Again, Shi Qi was reminded of the vast difference in strength between them. Worse still, he could feel Shang Sui gently sniffing along his neck, as if confirming whether the scent met his preferences.

The Alpha’s breath brushed over his sensitive glands, and a flash of sharp teeth crossed Shi Qi’s mind. If he wasn’t careful, those white teeth might pierce his skin, tasting him without restraint.

Shi Qi’s whole body tensed. Without thinking, he said, “Don’t touch my neck.”

Shang Sui hadn’t slept well during the first half of the night. He’d only just fallen asleep when he was abruptly woken and thought he was still dreaming.

Hearing Shi Qi’s resistance, Shang Sui ran a fingernail across his glands and, using the excuse of still being in a dream, said shamelessly, “Then where do you want me to touch?”

Rather than humbly seeking guidance, both his tone and actions were unusually forceful, carrying a veiled implication.

The words sounded strange at first, but Shi Qi didn’t have time to dwell on them. “Nowhere! Get off me!”

Shi Qi hadn’t expected Shang Sui’s morning temper to be this bad. Not only was he cranky, but he also…

Feeling something hard pressing against him, Shi Qi’s face turned bright red.

To make matters worse, with all the rubbing early in the morning, he had inevitably been affected too.

Out of nervousness, Shi Qi released a bit of pheromones, like a silent cry for help.

Shang Sui caught the familiar scent. His fingers paused, and he finally snapped out of the dream.

He tentatively wrapped his hand around the Omega’s slender neck. The sensation under his palm felt far too real.

“Hmm…?” Shang Sui mumbled sluggishly. “So it’s not a dream.”

“Of course it’s not! Let me go right now!” Shi Qi’s voice came from beneath his hand as he struggled.

Shang Sui quickly let go and stopped pressing down on him. Shi Qi shot him a glare over his shoulder and quickly moved to the side.

The pearly white pajamas had been tugged loose during the struggle, revealing a small section of his smooth, slim back. Under the morning light, the Omega’s tofu-like skin looked especially delicate.

Shang Sui’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly. As his memory gradually returned, he recalled everything he had just done while holding Shi Qi down, and for once, he felt he might have gone too far.

He quickly averted his eyes and stopped looking at Shi Qi.

But the memory still pricked at his nerves. Shang Sui clenched his palm, forcing himself to stop.

The two of them lay in bed, tacitly maintaining a bit of distance between them.

Shi Qi gradually calmed down. Shang Sui seemed to be going through the same. Neither of them said a word.

After a while, Shang Sui collected himself and broke the silence. “Actually, this is normal, right?”

His voice was still slightly hoarse, but he acted especially frank, making everything that had just happened seem justified. “It’d be weird if there was no reaction.”

Shi Qi had originally been extremely embarrassed by his own reaction, but with Shang Sui’s lead, it didn’t seem like such a big deal anymore.

If he made too much of a fuss, it would seem like he was overreacting and put him at a loss.

Shi Qi kept his gaze straight ahead. “I don’t need you to tell me. I know it’s normal.”

“Good.”

There was another brief silence. Then Shang Sui suddenly said, “But why did you pinch me first thing in the morning? Were you taking advantage of me?”

Shi Qi nearly choked on his own breath. In disbelief, he repeated, “I took advantage of you?”

Shang Sui deliberately twisted his words and pretended to be troubled. “That’s not okay, Xiao Qi.”

“?”

“Even though our compatibility is high and it’s natural for you to have some thoughts about me, we Alphas still value purity. Especially someone like me who is still unmarried—”

In a burst of anger, Shi Qi grabbed a pillow and slammed it over Shang Sui’s head.

Shang Sui played along, letting himself be knocked over with a groan, showing none of the dominance he’d displayed earlier when he’d pinned Shi Qi down with one hand. Now, he looked completely weak and easy to bully.

“Can you stop talking so much? Even a ghost wouldn’t be able to outtalk you. Why don’t you just say that holding your hand means I have to marry you?”

In the middle of their scuffle, Shi Qi didn’t think twice and directly straddled Shang Sui.

His pajamas hadn’t been properly fastened to begin with; his clothes and hair were a mess, and his face was still flushed from anger.

Busy dealing with Shang Sui, Shi Qi didn’t notice someone knocking at the door.

For safety reasons, Lin Yan and Shi Qi had always gotten an extra key card and exchanged copies with each other.

They had planned to go skiing that morning. When Lin Yan hadn’t heard from Shi Qi and got no response after knocking, he simply swiped the card and came in.

Lin Yan saw him sitting on the bed. “Baby, you’re awake, why didn’t you—huh?!”

Noticing who else was in the bed, his voice cracked mid-sentence.

Shi Qi was the type to care about appearances. Flustered, he tossed aside the pillow covering Shang Sui. Shang Sui, still pinned under Shi Qi, revealed his face and even greeted Lin Yan with a bright smile. “Hi, we’ve been awake for a while.”

What Shang Sui said sounded way too much like something a partner would say, and paired with the current scene, the damage doubled instantly.

Lin Yan could no longer tell if the two were fake dating or genuinely together, and in his confusion, he blurted out what he was thinking.

“Are you two… riding horses this early in the morning?”

Chu Tao and Su Zhou happened to be walking by. Chu Tao asked excitedly, “What horses? There are no horses in the hotel… Whoa!! OH MY GOD!!!!”

Chu Tao immediately covered Su Zhou’s eyes. “Susu, don’t look! They’ve gone too far!”

Su Zhou was frantic. “Xiao Tao-jie, let go of me! Why are you covering my eyes and not your own? I really wanna see!”

Amid the chaos, Shi Qi surprisingly became calm under immense pressure and signaled to Lin Yan. “Close the door first.”

Lin Yan: “Close the door so you two can carry on? Go right ahead.”

Just before the door shut, Chu Tao offered a heartfelt compliment, “Sweetheart, you’re the boldest Omega I’ve ever seen.”

“…”

“We’re in trouble now.” Shang Sui looked up at Shi Qi, who was trying hard to stay composed on top of him, and added fuel to the fire. “Will they think you’re abusing me?”

Shang Sui’s eyes carried a smile, and the look in them was especially tender. The words didn’t sound very nice, but coming from his mouth, they somehow felt like flirting.

This guy clearly enjoyed stirring up trouble. It was only then that Shi Qi realized he had been sitting on the Alpha’s firm waist and abdomen the whole time.

His butt instantly felt like it was on fire. Shi Qi practically jumped three feet in the air, scrambling to put some distance between them.

Shang Sui laughed even more happily. “Oh, Xiao Qi, you care about your reputation that much?”

“You better leave,” Shi Qi said stiffly, feeling like he was burning all over. “Or I might make that accusation come true.”

“Really?” Shang Sui replied. “Then go ahead.”

“…” Crazy.

After fooling around enough, Shang Sui slowly got up from the bed and pulled a jacket over his pajamas.

Before leaving, he seemed to remember something. He turned back to look at Shi Qi.

“Thanks for sleeping with me,” he said naturally. “I’d like to come again next time.”

As chaotic as the morning had been, it was the first time in years Shi Qi had woken up feeling so refreshed. Otherwise, there was no way he’d have had the energy to wrestle with Shang Sui straight out of bed.

If not for that unexpected mess earlier, the sleep would’ve been perfect.

In the end, Shi Qi replied with a reserved, “I’ll think about it.”

After washing up, he went downstairs to meet Lin Yan.

It’s important to eat before skiing, and Shi Qi, still soaking in the bliss of good sleep, found everything around him unusually pleasant. He even had an extra slice of strawberry chocolate cake.

“So what’s really going on between you and Shang Sui?” Lin Yan caught up to the situation quickly. “Are you two actually together now? I had a vague feeling this day might come, but I didn’t think it’d be this soon.”

“No, it’s not like that.”

Shi Qi had intended to say that Shang Sui was afraid of thunderstorms, and that’s why they’d slept together. But then he thought—maybe Shang Sui didn’t want others to know.

So he changed his story. “I asked him to sleep with me. You said before that sleeping next to a highly compatible Alpha would be comfortable, right? I haven’t been sleeping well lately, so I wanted to give it a try.”

Lin Yan remembered that too and gave a knowing look. “What a pity.”

Shi Qi: “?” What are you pitying exactly?

But Lin Yan realized something didn’t add up. “Then what were you two doing this morning…?”

Shi Qi simplified things, “When we woke up, I pinched him, so he smacked me back. And that was it.”

Thinking back on that scene, Shi Qi’s fingers twitched slightly.

Why did it feel like it didn’t even fit in one hand…

Shit, are all Alphas this perverted? Or is it just Shang Sui?

From Shi Qi’s description, it sounded like elementary school kids fighting. Lin Yan felt something wasn’t quite right, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. In the end, he just asked, “So did it work? Did you sleep well?”

Shi Qi pushed away the chaotic thoughts. “If only Shang Sui weren’t a real person, but something like a scented body pillow.”

Lin Yan was stunned. “Why?”

Facing Lin Yan, Shi Qi dropped all pretense and spoke his true feelings. “I’d definitely hug him to sleep every day.”
