CEG Chapter 5

Can't you see that professor Jiang is not interested in me?

Cheng Yan saw Jiang Muping walking towards them. Although he froze for a while, out of subconscious politeness, he nodded to Jiang Muping, but his movements were a little stiff.

Most university professors can’t remember all the names of their students, let alone professors like Jiang Muping who not only supervise master’s and doctoral students but also teach undergraduate students. He had an impression of Lin Weijing’s appearance, but he couldn’t remember his name before, so he asked for confirmation, “Lin Weijing?”

Lin Weijing nodded,” Professor Jiang.”

“Do you have asthma?” Jiang Muping asked.

“Yes.”

“How do you feel now?”

“I’m much better now. I’m sorry to bother you with this.”

“I’m glad you’re okay.” Jiang Muping turned to look at Cheng Yan, but Cheng Yan had already stepped aside.

Lin Weijing also looked at Cheng Yan, “Ge… Do you know the professor?”

Cheng Yan nodded.

Lin Weijing looked surprised, “How did you two know each other?”

“Why would a kid ask so many questions?” Cheng Yan avoided his question.

“…I’m already twenty-one.”

Jiang Muping glanced at Cheng Yan and revealed their latest connection in front of everyone present, “We met through a blind date.”

Cheng Yan’s breath stopped for a moment, and he turned his head slightly away, not wanting to look at the shocked faces of Lin Weijing and his classmates. He didn’t know why Jiang Muping skipped over the fact that they were old classmates and directly brought up the blind date.

With Lin Weijing’s personality he would probably chase after him later, and ask all sorts of questions.

Jiang Muping had only come to check on Lin Weijing’s condition. He had to go back to teach his students, so it was inconvenient for him to stay for long. He looked at Lin Weijing and said, “I have to go back to teach, so I won’t stay any longer. You’re not feeling well, so it’s best for you to go home and rest.”

“Okay, Professor. I’ll ask my brother to take me home.” Lin Weijing took advantage of the opportunity and leaned on his brother. “Take me home please.”

Jiang Muping nodded “Okay, I’ll go first.”

Jiang Muping paused as he passed Cheng Yan, as if to say goodbye to him, “I’m leaving now.”

Cheng Yan still didn’t say the word “goodbye”. He moved his lips and nodded silently.

Kang Ming returned to the classroom for class, and Lin Weijing went home with his brother as he wished.

As soon as Lin Weijing got in the car, he couldn’t help but ask, “Ge, are you and Professor Jiang in a relationship?”

Cheng Yan didn’t answer him, and suddenly asked, “Why didn’t you give the doctor your parents’ phone number?”

Lin Weijing’s excitement was half extinguished, and he said unhappily, “You’re my brother, can’t I give yours ?”

“It just so happens that I don’t have any work today. What if I was busy with work?”

Lin Weijing was silent for a while, then whispered, “You just don’t want to come.”

“Yes, I just don’t want to come.” Cheng Yan said something hurtful in his low, hoarse voice, “It wasn’t me who grew up with you and raised you for more than ten years. It was your parents now. If you have any problems, you should tell them first—”

Lin Weijing interrupted him, “I don’t want to talk to you about this.”

Cheng Yan stopped talking and tightened his grip on the steering wheel slightly.

Lin Weijing noticed Cheng Yan was driving towards his home and said, “I want to go to your studio.”

Cheng Yan didn’t want to make the atmosphere more solemn, so he softened his tone and said, “I’ll take you home to rest.”

“I can rest in the studio. I feel fine. There’s nothing wrong with me.”

“There are a lot of people there.”

“Ge……”

Cheng Yan felt helpless and compromised, “Do whatever you want.”

Lin Weijing immediately smiled. He was a stubborn person and Cheng Yan’s weak spot. Cheng Yan could never do anything to him.

Once the atmosphere was relaxed, Lin Weijing picked up the previous topic again, “Brother, are you dating our professor?”

“No.” Cheng Yan felt that his question was stupid. How could they be in a relationship in the state they were in just now? He was so embarrassed that he almost wanted to dig a hole and hide.

Cheng Yan drove the car with his eyes fixed on the road ahead, and asked nonchalantly, “Is he a professor?”

“Yeah, the youngest full professor in our school.”

Cheng Yan only knew that Jiang Muping was a teacher, and did not know that he was a university professor. Jiang Muping himself never mentioned this.

“What does he… teach?”

“Ge…” Lin Weijing’s tone actually contained a hint of disappointment, “What kind of relationship are you having? How come you don’t even know what major he teaches?”

Cheng Yan was speechless.

Lin Weijing turned his head and asked tentatively, “You should know what my major is, right?”

Cheng Yan said indifferently, “I don’t know.”

Lin Weijing laughed quietly, knowing that Cheng Yan did it on purpose, and he was not angry.

“I’m studying law. What do you think Professor Jiang teaches us?” Lin Weijing said, “Criminal law. He teaches criminal law.”

“I have always wanted to apply to be his graduate student.” Lin Weijing said again.

Cheng Yan hummed, “Keep working hard.”

“Ge, how did you two meet? Who introduced you to each other?”

“My former art teacher is Professor Jiang’s cousin.”

“Professor Jiang’s cousin has good taste.” Lin Weijing said sweetly, praising Cheng Yan in various ways. “Ge, do you two have a chance?”

“No.” Cheng Yan said simply.

“Ah?” Lin Weijing’s face fell. “Are you sure? Don’t you like Professor Jiang?”

Cheng Yan suddenly felt that there was a generation gap between him and Lin Weijing. Lin Weijing was young and seemed to have never been in love. Perhaps because of this, his doubts at this moment were childish and silly.

Cheng Yan laughed dumbly, “Is it so easy to like someone?”

“That’s not what I meant…it’s just that,” Lin Weijing didn’t know how to express himself, “There are many students in our school who like Professor Jiang. I mean the kind of like, you know, the kind that wants to have a romantic relationship with him, both male and female. I thought you would at least admire him.”

“I admire him very much.”

“Relationships can be developed, Ge. You’re already thirty-five, you should try to find someone to be with.”

“He and I are not compatible.”

Before he knew it, they had arrived at the studio.

Lin Weijing got out of the car and looked across at Cheng Yan. “How do you know it’s not suitable if you don’t try? I think you two are a perfect match. A perfect match. Brother, you’re just so lazy, that’s why you can’t find a partner.”

Lin Weijing seemed to have overlooked an important point, and Cheng Yan tried to make him aware of it.

“Can’t you see that Professor Jiang is not interested in me?”

Lin Weijing was stunned for a moment.

“I went on a blind date with him half a month ago. Before today, we had never been in touch or met.”

Cheng Yan closed the car door and walked towards the studio, teasing Lin Weijing, “You’ve been in love a few times, and now you think you’re an expert in love.”

“I had a relationship when I was underage, okay? It was puppy love.” Lin Weijing followed, eager to clear his name, “I lost my first kiss in kindergarten.”

Cheng Yan chuckled softly, “When you were in kindergarten, you looked like a burnt potato. Who would want to kiss you?”

Cheng Yan rarely smiled in front of Lin Weijing, but whenever he did, Lin Weijing would laugh too. “Stop talking nonsense! I looked fine when I was in kindergarten. Do you know why I had a seizure today? It’s because someone sent me flowers. Do you know what that means? It’s obvious.”

Zhu Yu came out from the inner room, “Laoshi.”

The smile on Lin Weijing’s face disappeared instantly, and Zhu Yu greeted him, “Lin ge.”

Lin Weijing nodded stiffly.

Zhu Yu smiled sweetly, “It’s been a long time since we last met. Why are you here today?”

“I just wanted to come.”

Zhu Yu said “Oh” and looked at Cheng Yan, “Laoshi, there is a client coming from Jin City. He said he has an appointment with you today at three o’clock.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Stay by yourself.” Cheng Yan instructed Lin Weijing, “If you’re tired, go to my room and rest. Remember to take off your clothes. You are not allowed to wear outwear on the bed.”

“I know.”

“Lin ge, do you want some water?” Zhu Yu asked Lin Weijing.

“No, thank you.”

Zhu Yu was watering the potted plants on the counter with a cartoon-style kettle. Lin Weijing folded his arms and looked at him, saying calmly, “Aren’t you an apprentice? Why do you do assistant chores all day long?”

“These flowers are raised by the teacher. They are very delicate and need to be taken good care of.”

Lin Weijing walked up behind him and asked, “Is this how you please my brother?”

Zhu Yu was stunned. He turned around and stared at Lin Weijing for a few seconds before suddenly bursting into laughter. “I was wondering why you were giving me such a sour face. I thought I had offended you somewhere.”

Lin Weijing turned down the corner of his mouth and frowned slightly.

Zhu Yu turned around and muttered to himself, “How can someone who has good education be so stupid?”

Lin Weijing put his arm around Zhu Yu’s waist a

nd slapped the counter with his palm, “What are you mumbling about?”

“Lin ge,” Zhu Yu continued watering the flowers with his back to Lin Weijing, “Laoshi, is your brother, not mine.”
