Wealthy Woof Chapter 96

First time receiving a love letter

Lu Chenghe came out after his shower and saw Little Pudding lying on the bed. Right in front of him was his own bank card. Lu Chenghe chuckled as he towel-dried his hair and said, “What, still not giving up on the idea of buying a luxury car?”

Zuo Ning let out a humph, turned over, and lay on his back on the bed. “Do I seem like someone that shallow?”

Who was it that came back all fuming from school, talking about buying a luxury car? Lu Chenghe glanced at him and walked past without a word.

Seeing Lu Chenghe head to the desk and completely ignore him, Zuo Ning touched the card that held all his savings and called out, “Chenghe.”

Lu Chenghe’s hand on the mouse paused slightly, then he looked up at him.

Zuo Ning looked straight at him and said, “I’ve made up my mind. From now on, half of the money I earn will be for you to spend, and the other half will go to charity, to help those kids in the mountains. I want more people to be able to come out and see the world. What do you think?”

Lu Chenghe raised an eyebrow slightly. “And what about you?”

Zuo Ning answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, “Of course, I’ll be spending the money you earn! If you don’t let me spend your money, are you planning to raise a second little demon or something?!”

At those words, Lu Chenghe gave a short laugh. “Quite the little schemer, aren’t you?”

That meant he didn’t object—so it was a yes. Zuo Ning immediately ran over to Lu Chenghe’s desk and handed him the card. “Then you better take this. From now on, all the money I earn will go into this card. You can use half of it to help those mountain kids. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know which charities actually do real work. I don’t want my hard-earned money falling into the hands of some heartless scammers.”

Lu Chenghe picked up the card and looked at Little Pudding. “You sure you’re really giving this to me? You don’t mind parting with it?”

Zuo Ning nodded without hesitation. “Take it, take it. Don’t worry, I’ll earn even more in the future. I’ll make sure you live the good life—feasting and drinking with me!”

Lu Chenghe reached out and pinched that smug little face of his, saying whatever nonsense came to mind without a care.

“So, Second Brother just gave you that card?” Lu Nianqi looked at the black card in Lu Ning’s hand, the one engraved with their second brother’s name. He couldn’t help twitching at the corners of his mouth as he asked.

Zuo Ning grinned and nodded, eyes squinting from the smile. “Mhm! I asked Chenghe how much money was in the card, and he said it was enough to buy a whole row of luxury cars just to display at home. That means it must have a lot of money in it. Based on Chenghe’s standards for luxury cars, who knows how many houses just one car’s worth could buy.”

After saying that, Zuo Ning hooked an arm around Lu Nianqi’s neck and added, “From now on, if there’s anything you want to buy, just tell me—I’ll swipe the card for you! I’ve never tried buying things without looking at the price, just buying and swiping without thinking. You know how in dramas, those people walk into a mall, point at a few things, and say, ‘This, this, not that one, the rest—wrap them all up for me’? I’m not really into clothes, though. I want to go buy game consoles. Next time I’m going, too, and I’ll be like, ‘This one, not that one, everything else—wrap it all up for me!’ Hahahahaha!”

Lu Nianqi burst out laughing. “But you can wear new clothes every day. Are you planning to rotate through game consoles daily, too?”

Mentioning game consoles reminded Zuo Ning of something. “Did you know there’s a game room at home? Your Fourth Brother had it set up. It’s super fun. Next time you come home, we’ll play together. Watching stuff in there feels amazing. The only pity is that there aren’t many resources yet. After all, this kind of equipment isn’t widespread yet.”

Lu Nianqi asked, “I heard Fourth Brother is getting married. Is that true?”

Zuo Ning paused, surprised. “I haven’t heard that. Who told you? I only know he’s in a relationship. Too bad the girl’s studying overseas—he flies out to see her every week, always all lovey-dovey. Sometimes he comes over for meals and practically showers everyone with public displays of affection for free. Maybe Chenghe finally got fed up with all that clinginess and banned him from visiting, so we haven’t seen him around lately.”

Lu Nianqi shook his head. “Some girl I didn’t recognize suddenly ran up to me crying and asked if Fourth Brother was getting married. I said I didn’t know, hadn’t heard anything, and she just ran off crying again.”

Zuo Ning leaned in, full of gossip. “Was she pretty?”

Lu Nianqi nodded. “Yeah, pretty. Even though she was crying, she still had a kind of elegance about her.”

Zuo Ning clicked his tongue softly. “Tch, those Lu family guys—always messing around and stirring up trouble. Hmph.”

Lu Nianqi chuckled. “But Second Brother is really self-disciplined.”

Zuo Ning rolled his eyes outright. That was only because he kept a close watch. Otherwise, who knew how many eager bees and butterflies would be throwing themselves at him?

As it turned out, that very morning he had been complaining about how the men of the Lu family always attracted attention—and by the afternoon, he himself had received a confession and been handed a love letter.

Looking at the box of cookies and the pink envelope in his hand, then at the shy figure who had dashed off, Zuo Ning turned to Lu Nianqi and asked, “So, was that a confession?”

Lu Nianqi silently nodded. He was suddenly very curious to gossip about what Second Brother would think of all this.

Lu Chenghe was staring at a box of handmade cookies in pink packaging sitting on his desk, along with a pink envelope. Meanwhile, Little Pudding was cheerfully opening the cookie box, revealing rows of heart-shaped cookies inside. Just as he reached out to grab one, Lu Chenghe knocked on the desk.

Zuo Ning looked up at him and asked, “You want one?”

Lu Chenghe gave him a level look. “How many times have I told you not to eat or accept things from strangers? If you really can’t remember, I don’t mind helping you remember a little more deeply.”

Zuo Ning quickly put the cookies back in the box. “I was just picking them up to look! I wasn’t going to eat them. If I wanted to eat them, I would’ve done it on the way here. And it’s not like I accepted them willingly—the girl shoved them at me and ran off. I didn’t even get a good look at what she looked like.”

Lu Chenghe raised an eyebrow. “So you wanted a good look? What, planning to return the favor?”

“It’s my first time getting a love letter, I should at least know what the person looks like, right?”

Although it wasn’t the first time a girl had confessed to him—he’d been given all sorts of gifts in the past, from origami cranes to scarves, gloves, and other random stuff—this was the first time someone had baked him cookies and written a love letter in a pink envelope. It definitely counted as a first in life. Whether or not Zuo Ning had “bent”, being liked by someone was still a form of affirmation—it boosted his confidence.

Lu Chenghe let out a quiet laugh. “You’re that sure she really likes you?”

Zuo Ning patted the unopened love letter on the desk. “She even wrote me a love letter. If that’s not a confession, then what is it?!” Lu Chenghe really underestimated his charm! It had to be because he’d acted silly too many times in front of him, which led to a totally skewed impression of him in Chenghe’s mind!

Lu Chenghe replied coolly, “Then did it never cross your mind, after you’ve been attending classes for months, why she waited until now, right after the seminar, to give it to you?”

Zuo Ning thought for a moment. “Maybe because my classes are ending soon. If she doesn’t give it now, she won’t get another chance?”

Lu Chenghe just stared at him without replying. After meeting his gaze for a few seconds, Zuo Ning suddenly collapsed onto the desk like he’d lost all his bones, idly peeling at a sticker on the cookie box. The office went quiet for a bit. Eventually, Zuo Ning couldn’t hold it in and asked Lu Chenghe again, seeking confirmation: “Is it really like that? That she wrote me a love letter because she thinks I’m rich, just because we’re close and she thinks my family’s loaded?”

Looking at those pitiful, puppy-dog eyes, Lu Chenghe paused for a moment. What he had originally intended to say didn’t come out. Instead, he said, “If you’re interested in that girl, you can try getting to know her. Whether she genuinely likes you or just sees you as something rare and valuable—it’s something you’ll only understand through real interaction. What I’m trying to say is, you don’t have to assume the worst of people, but don’t blindly trust everything either.”

After saying that, Lu Chenghe sighed. “Forget it. With that brain of yours, there’s no way you’ll figure out something this complicated. Just go with your gut.”

Zuo Ning kept scratching at the cookie box sticker and gazed up at Lu Chenghe with those big, shiny black eyes. Lu Chenghe snorted coldly. “Go play somewhere else. Don’t bother me while I’m working.”

Suddenly, Zuo Ning burst out laughing. “I get it now. You’re jealous. You’re afraid I’ll fall for that girl and won’t like you anymore.”

Lu Chenghe could feel the vein in his forehead twitching.

Zuo Ning walked around the desk and threw himself onto Lu Chenghe, squeezing into his lap with a beaming smile. “I’m just really happy someone likes me. I wasn’t even planning to open the letter, and I’m not going to get involved with that girl.”

Lu Chenghe tried to push him off. “That’s your business.”

Zuo Ning clung tightly to him. Seeing that Lu Chenghe was trying to push him away, he hugged his neck even more tightly and rubbed against him, saying, “Don’t worry, I only like you. I won’t change my heart and like someone else.”

Lu Chenghe smacked his thigh. “Get down.”

Zuo Ning grinned and leaned his face over. “Then give me a kiss. Just one kiss and I’ll get down.”

Lu Chenghe pinched his ear. “Looks like life’s been a little too easy for you lately. You’re getting itchy, huh?”

Zuo Ning looked at him pitifully. “You haven’t kissed me in so long. I feel like you’re neglecting me. If you keep treating me like this, I’ll get depressed.”

Lu Chenghe smacked him again. “Nonsense!”

Zuo Ning stared at him with wide eyes and didn’t say a word. If it weren’t for the fact that he could barely hold back his laughter, those eyes might’ve actually looked genuinely aggrieved. Unfortunately, that barely-suppressed smile completely ruined the act.

Just then, someone knocked on the door. Lu Chenghe reached out and tugged at him. “Get down, I need to work.”

Zuo Ning leaned in closer and made a few whining sounds. He was determined. If he didn’t get a kiss this time, he wasn’t giving in.

The door was knocked on twice more. Lu Chenghe had no choice but to call out toward the door, “Just a moment!” Then he looked at the little rascal in front of him. Zuo Ning turned his face toward him, scooting in even closer. Lu Chenghe didn’t dodge this time—just let him come as close as he wanted. In the end, that little face successfully touched his lips. The little brat then cupped his face and gave him a loud smooch on the cheek before jumping off him and scampering off into the small room, happy as could be.

Lu Chenghe touched his face and, in the end, couldn’t help but smile helplessly.
