Chen Yu sat on the second floor of Lin Sheng’s house, rubbing his temples on the couch. “Are these really the places he frequents?” He turned to look at Lin Sheng, who was sinking into the opposite sofa, sipping a cup of hot coffee.
For months, they had staked out the gym, Lao Yue’s stall, and even a ramen restaurant on a remote street. Yet, there was no sign of Li Yan.
Lin Sheng’s expression was dispirited. He took a sip of coffee and said, “Maybe he’s just too comfortable at home now. Last time I saw him, he’d put on some weight.”
Chen Yu replied, “That’s impossible.” He stood up, feeling a bit impatient. “School is starting soon. I can’t stay here any longer. I need to see him.”
Lin Sheng quickly shot down the idea. “It’s not going to happen. Lu Lianning’s security team has the house surrounded inside and out. Unless Li Yan comes out willingly, there’s no way we can get in.”
“Surrounded inside and out!?” Chen Yu’s expression turned ugly. He suddenly recalled Lu Lianning’s words from their first meeting at the hospital.
Staring at Lin Sheng, Chen Yu said, “I’ve waited here for so long. I have to see him. If things are really as bad as you say, then I have to pull him out. Lu Lianning is no different from a lunatic.”
–
The first month after the Spring Festival still held a lingering chill in the air.
At 4:30 PM, Li Yan lay in his bedroom, eyes closed but unable to sleep. The air conditioner was set to a high temperature, and the room was completely silent.
Lu Lianning had left at noon, only after watching him finish lunch.
Suddenly, there was a soft sound—faint at first but growing louder, with an urgency to it.
At the same time, unusual noises came from downstairs. Li Yan frowned and slowly opened his eyes, turning toward the source of the sound inside the room.
Time seemed to freeze when his eyes locked with Chen Yu’s through the window.
Confusion flashed across Chen Yu’s face. His action of knocking on the window came to a halt as he stared at Li Yan, who was half-sitting up, his bulging belly clearly visible.
Li Yan quickly came to his senses, shifting his bloated body toward the window. He tried to open it, but after two failed attempts, he remembered that Lu Lianning had sealed the window shut.
Seeing this, Chen Yu clenched his teeth, eyes reddening. He muttered something under his breath and began pounding on the window like crazy. However, it was clear that a fragile Omega like Chen Yu couldn’t break through.
Realizing what had to be done, Li Yan grabbed the lamp from his bedside table. He swung the metal base against the window. Chen Yu quickly moved aside. It took seven or eight strikes before the window finally shattered.
Chen Yu’s voice came through, seething with hatred. Looking at the pregnant Li Yan, he could no longer control his emotions and cursed, “That beast! I’ll kill him for sure!” Tears streamed down his face as he finished.
Li Yan blinked, thinking it was all a dream. He reached out, touching the warmth of the tears on Chen Yu’s face, finally understanding it was real. His voice trembled, “Xiao Yu… why are you here?”
Chen Yu took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm. He steadied his voice. “Come on, I’m getting you out of here…”
His original plan had been for Li Yan to climb out the window with him, but he hadn’t expected Li Yan to be in such a condition. Lin Sheng hadn’t brought enough people. He wasn’t sure if they could escape through the front yard.
Lin Sheng and Du Lin sat in a car across the street from the Lu household’s backyard. Lin Sheng turned to Du Lin, who was constantly glancing outside, and said, “Can you stop acting like a thief? I told you not to come, but you just had to join the fun.”
Du Lin replied, “How could I let you handle this alone, bro?” The nineteen-year-old boy seemed almost excited. “I never thought we’d be part of an actual rescue mission.”
He patted Lin Sheng’s shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry. They won’t trace this back to us. I hired a group from out of town through a complex route. Plus…” He gestured behind them. Outside the car window, Du Feifei, in high heels, was just finishing tying a string of helium balloons over the security cameras in the Lu house’s backyard, completely obstructing the view.
Lin Sheng shot him a glare. “This is ridiculous! Do you think this is a game? And you even brought her along.”
Du Feifei walked over, the sharp clicks of her high heels echoing as she greeted the two Alphas in the car. “Ge, what are you guys up to?”
Her face was adorned with delicate makeup, and her voice was sweet. As expected from Du Lin’s sister, she sounded just like him. “Is this some cheesy novel we’re acting out?” She leaned against the car window. “Lin Sheng-ge! I really admire you. So, what’s the plan? Are you running off with the lover of the guy named Lu?”
Lin Sheng felt a headache coming on. He noticed Chen Yu had been stuck at the window for over ten minutes and still hadn’t come down. Something wasn’t right.
Just as Chen Yu took off his coat to cover the sharp edges of the broken glass, the bedroom door suddenly swung open.
Li Yan was startled and quickly tried to climb through the window. But with his belly close to full-term, he lacked the flexibility. Even a simple action like this took enormous effort.
He glanced over at the butler, who had entered the room, his face as emotionless as ever.
Li Yan broke out in a cold sweat, while Chen Yu’s face paled. He had no idea what was happening downstairs, but he could tell that they had dragged this out for too long.
The butler’s voice shattered the tense silence that hung in the room.
“Go through the front door,” he said calmly, his hand still on the doorknob.
Lin Sheng and the others waited in the car for nearly 20 minutes before finally spotting Li Yan and Chen Yu approaching.
Everyone was startled at the sight of Li Yan. He looked unusually haggard, and his belly was swollen. The moment Lin Sheng laid eyes on him, it was as if he’d been scalded. He sat up straight, doing his best to suppress his emotions, but after a few moments, he couldn’t help cursing through clenched teeth, “Son of a bitch…”
He truly hadn’t imagined Lu Lianning could be so inhuman.
What the hell did he do to get a Beta pregnant!
Lin Sheng managed to keep his composure, but Du Lin and Du Feifei were so shocked that their eyes nearly popped out of their heads. Du Feifei blurted out, “Oh my god…” before quickly covering her mouth, realizing how inappropriate her reaction was.
By then, sweat was already beading on Li Yan’s forehead. Even after just a few steps, he was out of breath, and the thing inside his stomach was starting to stir.
Li Yan looked at Lin Sheng, then at the others, before his gaze returned to Lin Sheng.
“Thank you.”
“I’m sorry.”
Li Yan’s voice of gratitude overlapped with Lin Sheng’s tense apology.
“We’re running out of time. Let’s get moving,” Chen Yu reminded them, aware this wasn’t the place for a conversation.
Holding onto the car door, Li Yan said, “No, Lu Lianning will figure it out soon and come after us.” He took a breath, then continued, “Lin Sheng, you guys should leave. Chen Yu and I will go on our own.”
He thanked them again. “Thank you.”
Lin Sheng was silent for a moment before stepping out of the driver’s seat. “Don’t come back after this.”
He turned to Chen Yu and asked, “Can you drive?”
After getting into the car, Li Yan struggled to fasten his seatbelt. Even as they sped off, everything felt unreal to him.
Li Yan wasn’t usually like this, but from the moment Chen Yu gripped the steering wheel, he urged him to go faster three times. “Xiao Yu, hurry.”
Chen Yu was just as tense. He didn’t know what Li Yan had been through or how much pain he had endured to make him look so panicked, like he was escaping from hell.
Chen Yu rarely drove, and his knuckles turned white from gripping the steering wheel too tightly.
Just as Li Yan predicted, a black luxury car soon appeared in the rearview mirror. It trailed them closely, weaving through traffic and closing in fast.
Chen Yu’s breathing quickened, and he pressed harder on the gas pedal. Li Yan glanced into the rearview mirror, and his face fell the moment he recognized the car.
But it wasn’t just behind them. A black Bentley appeared ahead, partially blocking the road.
The Bentley’s nose angled across the lane. Li Yan shut his eyes briefly, then opened them, speaking to Chen Yu, whose speed had slowed. “Go! Don’t stop!”
Chen Yu, panicking, gritted his teeth and asked, “How do we get past!?”
Li Yan’s emotions broke through, his eyes reddening. “Just go! He’ll move out of the way!” His voice rose, nearing a breaking point.
At that moment, Chen Yu floored the gas pedal, surging forward on a collision course.
Ahhhhh! 😱😱😱😱 more cliffhangers!
Lin Sheng still pissing me off with the “Don’t come back after this.”
Shut up.
!!!! Mission breakout!! How bold. I’m so happy for LY that he got to see Chen Yu paying back the favors he’s done for him, that he isn’t as dismissive as he sounded on the phone a few months ago. I’m sure that was weighing on him even though he didn’t show it.
LY’s “Thank you” exchange with Lin Sheng’s “I’m sorry” was so sweet… it shows how forgiving and easygoing LY really is, and how Lin Sheng has probably been feeling guilty all this time.
And Omg!!! The butler let LY out!! Was it more for LY or for LL. I bet he knows that LL is honestly sabotaging himself and any chance of a happy future they could have together.
LY is such a badass telling CY to floor it on the gas pedal. I agree with him that LL is going to move out of the way in this game of chicken. LY’s resilience really makes this story special! He isn’t just putting up a token resistance then rolling over like a lot of the other shous in similar dog blood stories I read. Ahhh can’t wait to see what happens next after this cliffhanger!!
I forgot to mention that Du Lin and Du Feifei were hilarious in this chapter! Love their cameo!
