Chapter 6: Separate Bedrooms

Yu Haozhou never imagined that his relationship with Zhou Zizheng would change after they got married. So, living under the same roof was one thing, but sharing a room and a bed? Impossible!

When they reached the top floor, a worker carrying a box asked which room to put it in. Zhou Zizheng pointed toward the master bedroom, but Yu Haozhou immediately grabbed their attention by saying, “Hey, hey!” He then pointed to the guest room on the other side of the second-floor hallway. “Take it to that room. Don’t go to the wrong one.”

“Take it to the master bedroom,” Zhou Zizheng insisted.

“The guest room!” Yu Haozhou retorted, not backing down.

The workers were confused and set the box on the floor. “Sirs, which room should we take this to? Maybe you should decide first?”

Before Zhou Zizheng could speak, Yu Haozhou wrapped his arm around his neck and covered his mouth. He smiled at the workers and said, “Take it to the guest room. Thank you for your hard work.”

Zhou Zizheng mumbled in protest but nodded his head. The workers proceeded to the second floor.

Just as Yu Haozhou was about to let go, Zhou Zizheng wrapped his arms around his waist. Caught off guard, their bodies were once again pressed close. Yu Haozhou jumped, pushing against his chest. “Zhou Zizheng, are you done or not? Haven’t you taken enough advantage of me?”

“I think I’ve been too lenient with you; that’s why you’re so out of control! Come on, let me go; let’s fight.”

Yu Haozhou rolled up his sleeves, ready for a brawl.

Zhou Zizheng raised an eyebrow and, like a gentleman, let go, deciding to give him a fair duel so that he would be thoroughly convinced and agree to live with him peacefully.

And then—

Yu Haozhou gave him a light, meaningless slap and then, poof, disappeared from his sight.

“What a joke,” he thought. “Only a fool would fight him.”

With Zhou Zizheng’s abnormal stamina and strength, there was no way he could win.

Zhou Zizheng: “….”

After a few seconds, he let out a soft laugh, watching the person on the second floor making faces at him. He parted his lips and said in a voice only he could hear, “Zhouzhou, tonight is our wedding night. You can’t escape.”

Boxes were scattered all over, and storage racks were piled up, filling the guest room to the point where it was difficult to even walk through. The door was wide open, and Yu Haozhou sat on the floor, unboxing things one by one as if they were blind boxes.

Zhou Zizheng had been helping him, but then he got a call from his parents to talk about work. Not long after being found by his biological family, he was appointed as the new CEO and parachuted into the Xie Group.

On the surface, it was a new job, but in reality, a bunch of teachers and senior colleagues were teaching him financial knowledge and company management in his office. He hadn’t been to the company for two days because of their marriage license and moving.

His task was urgent, and he had to learn everything before the family reunion banquet. Otherwise, his father alone couldn’t control the old board members, and without a direct descendant, he would soon be forced to step down.

After a boring discussion about work, the phone was passed to Mrs. Xie, who asked about the young couple. “Yangyang, what do you think? Is eight nannies enough for your new home?”

Yangyang was Zhou Zizheng’s childhood nickname. His old name was Xie Jingyang, but he didn’t want to change it back. Mrs. Xie loved calling him by his nickname, as if her son had never left her.

Yu Haozhou, with his sharp hearing, caught the question. He naturally thought, “Eight is definitely enough.” He knew the richest family would be generous with everything. But then Zhou Zizheng said, “No, Mom, we don’t need a single one. Don’t worry about it.”

Mrs. Xie gasped in surprise on the other end of the line. Yu Haozhou, meanwhile, was getting frantic. He pushed Zhou Zizheng’s arm and mouthed, “You don’t want them, but I do!”

Zhou Zizheng hesitated and then pointed to his lips.

Yu Haozhou continued to whisper, “What do you want?”

Zhou Zizheng moved the phone away from his ear and whispered back, “Kiss me, and I’ll agree.”

“….” Yu Haozhou rolled his eyes. “Get lost.”

Mrs. Xie, realizing she couldn’t convince her son, turned her attention to Yu Haozhou. “Where’s Xiao Zhou? Let him take the phone. I’ll ask for his opinion.”

Yu Haozhou’s eyes lit up, and he was about to shout, “Aunt—,” but Zhou Zizheng’s large hand squeezed his mouth shut, preventing him from speaking. There was a glimmer of a smile in his eyes as he calmly said, “Mom, he’s not with me right now. I’ll ask him later and call you back once I know.”

“Alright then, go ask him.”

After he hung up, Yu Haozhou’s face was flushed red from being held back. He kicked him with his hands and feet, and Zhou Zizheng mercifully let go. Yu Haozhou finally caught his breath, taking a few deep gasps before pouncing on him like a hungry tiger. “You bastard, Zhou Zizheng, you’re doing this on purpose to torment me!”

“If you don’t let the nannies come, who’s going to clean, cook, and do the laundry? You don’t expect me to do it, do you?”

“Why not?” Zhou Zizheng teased. “We can be self-sufficient.”

“Then don’t stop me from going back home.”

Yu Haozhou tried to leave, but Zhou Zizheng grabbed his hand and pulled him back into his arms. His slightly rough thumb caressed the tender skin of Yu Haozhou’s lips. “I’m giving you a choice. Kiss me, and I’ll agree.”

The tips of Yu Haozhou’s ears began to feel hot. “Zhou Zizheng, how can you be so disgusting? Why? Are you going to torment me by bringing yourself down with me?”

Zhou Zizheng’s expression was serious. “It’s not torment. I’m enjoying this.” He stared at the face he had seen in his dreams countless times. “I like you, but you don’t believe me.”

“Who are you trying to fool?” Almost instantly, Yu Haozhou remembered the night of his high school graduation party. “If you liked me, then why did you—”

Zhou Zizheng was confused. “What?”

He truly didn’t remember a single thing. Yu Haozhou instantly lost the desire to talk. “Never mind. It’s nothing.”

Seeing the visible disappointment on his face, Zhou Zizheng’s heart panicked. He hugged him more tightly. “Zhouzhou, can’t you just tell me what’s on your mind? When I think about it, we didn’t have any major conflicts before.”

No major conflicts?! That incident tormented him so much he couldn’t sleep all night. Yet, when he woke up, Zhou Zizheng acted as if nothing had happened, and he was the only one who had cared.

“Yes, we did. There was a huge conflict, and I won’t forgive you!”

“…”

At 11:00 PM, Yu Haozhou’s room was still a mess. He was too lazy to deal with it, so he took a shower and lay down in bed, thinking he’d just hire a few nannies to clean it up tomorrow.

As soon as he closed his eyes, Zhou Zizheng knocked on the door. To prevent him from barging in, Yu Haozhou had locked it. After enduring the knocking for ten or so seconds, he couldn’t take it anymore and shouted, “Get lost!”

It was quiet for a while, and just as Yu Haozhou was about to fall back asleep, music drifted through the door. It was so loud and so noisy. Yu Haozhou rolled over and covered his ears with a pillow, but the sound still got through.

He sat up with a jolt and called Zhou Zizheng. The music stopped, but the ringing continued to annoy him.

Zhou Zizheng answered. “Zhouzhou, can’t sleep alone?”

“…”

“Stop playing dumb,” Yu Haozhou said weakly. “Now, immediately, get lost.”

“Zhouzhou, we’re married. It doesn’t make sense for us to sleep in separate rooms,” Zhou Zizheng stated matter-of-factly.

“So what?” Yu Haozhou said with his eyes closed. “If it weren’t for my family forcing me, do you think I’d be willing to marry you? And sleep in the same bed? You’re dreaming. Aren’t you afraid I’ll strangle you in your sleep?”

“Zhou Zizheng, if you bother me again, I’ll take you down with me.”

“I’m serious, not kidding.”

After saying that, Yu Haozhou hung up without giving him a chance to object. This time, the hallway was quiet for at least ten minutes, though there were faint rustling noises that could be ignored. Just as Yu Haozhou was about to meet the Sandman in his dreams, suddenly—

“*The vast sky is my love…*”

A thunderous sound system started blaring music outside. Yu Haozhou’s body trembled in shock, and his heart raced. When he realized Zhou Zizheng was messing with him again, he lay flat on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. “What a disaster. This is a total disaster.”

Yu Haozhou sprang from the bed, shuffling in his slippers to open the door. Zhou Zizheng was sitting on the floor with the sound system playing. An ashtray was at his feet, and a half-smoked cigarette dangled from his mouth. He looked desolate and lonely, as if he had been abandoned.

The curse words Yu Haozhou was about to say got stuck in his throat. He turned off the music, and the hallway was instantly quiet. No one spoke for a moment. After a while, Yu Haozhou couldn’t take it anymore and nudged his leg with his foot. “Go back to your room and sleep.”

His ankle was grabbed as he pulled his foot back. The hand holding the remaining cigarette flickered near his foot, making Yu Haozhou flinch.

“Zhouzhou, I like you. Why won’t you ever believe me?”

“…Don’t be crazy.”

Zhou Zizheng put out the cigarette in the ashtray and stood up, repeating like a robot, “We’re married. Can we not sleep in separate beds?”

Yu Haozhou remained unyielding. “Impossible.”

He wouldn’t give him a chance to bewitch him.

Zhou Zizheng stared at him in silence for a moment, then grabbed his hand and pushed him against the wall. Yu Haozhou couldn’t break free. He frowned and glared at him. “Let go of me.”

Zhou Zizheng seemed a little hurt. “You’re not obedient at all.”

“Nonsense. You’re not my—”

Zhou Zizheng took the opportunity to kiss him. It was too late for Yu Haozhou to close his lips, and his mouth was invaded. The strong smell of cigarette smoke was unbearable. Yu Haozhou struggled, even biting the tip of his tongue, but Zhou Zizheng, as if possessed, held him tightly. The cigarette smell mixed with the taste of blood, making the kiss a terrible experience.

Not until all the oxygen was squeezed from his lungs and his legs felt weak and his head spun did Zhou Zizheng pull away. A trace of blood spread to the corner of his lips, adding a demonic charm to them.

Yu Haozhou leaned against the wall, his cheeks flushed, breathing softly, his pink tongue peeking out. Zhou Zizheng’s eyes darkened with desire. He swallowed, feeling as though Yu Haozhou was a demon meant to consume his soul. Before Yu Haozhou could react, he picked him up and carried him toward the master bedroom.

“You bastard, Zhou Zizheng!”
