Lu Nanyang was woken up by the chatter in the dorm room.
He hadn’t even opened his eyes yet, and the moment his consciousness started to return, a splitting headache hit him like a wave.
Frowning, he turned over and shoved his head under the pillow, trying to block out the noise and drift back to sleep.
But his temples throbbed painfully, and as his headache worsened, the voices got even louder—especially that certain Wen-surnamed drama queen, whose pitch rose yet another octave.
“…You guys just haven’t seen him in person! If you had, you wouldn’t say that!”
At that, Lu Nanyang was completely done with sleeping. He sat up in bed with a scowl on his face.
Wen Fei turned around excitedly and greeted him with enthusiasm, “Lu-ge, you’re up!”
Lu Nanyang responded by throwing a pillow at his face.
Wen Fei didn’t seem to care, catching the pillow and tossing it back, “It’s so late already! The sun’s up and shining on your butt, gege!”
Lu Nanyang’s hair was a mess, like a bird’s nest, and his voice was thick with congestion. “What time is it?”
“9:30,” Da Ze replied. “It’s about time you get up.”
“…” Lu Nanyang muttered weakly, “Do you guys even know what time I got back to the dorm?”
Before anyone could answer, he held up a middle finger. “7:30. You were all sleeping like pigs.”
Wen Fei still had that unconcerned expression. “Who told you to be out all night partying? I didn’t even think you’d make it back this morning. Besides, we don’t have class today.”
Lu Nanyang pressed his fingers against his throbbing temples, and a wave of terrible memories flooded back.
Did he want to stay up all night and rush back early in the morning? Didn’t he want to sleep in comfortably at the hotel until noon and then head back to school?
Seeing that Lu Nanyang wasn’t responding, Da Ze gave him a sympathetic look. “If you can’t hold your liquor, drink less. We have an exam coming up in a couple of days, remember?”
His alcohol tolerance wasn’t the problem—he hadn’t even drunk that much last night.
He was just pissed off.
But Lu Nanyang didn’t explain any further. He sighed and sat up in bed.
Now, even if Wen Fei and the others stopped talking, he wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep. Just thinking about last night made his headache worse.
Going to the bar had been a terrible decision. Instead of releasing stress, it had doubled it.
The dorm room was hot. Lu Nanyang was only wearing a tank top and a pair of flip-flops as he shuffled over to the sink and turned on the faucet.
Sunlight streamed through the window, heating the tiles around the sink. Someone had opened the window, and sparrows could be heard chirping on the treetops. A light breeze drifted in, finally bringing a bit of coolness.
Lu Nanyang splashed a handful of cold water onto his face. Water dripped down his hair, and his head finally started to clear a little.
When he came back from washing up, he heard Wen Fei still excitedly discussing the same topic with two others.
“I’m serious! You guys don’t have to believe me, but you can’t doubt my gaydar!”
Lu Nanyang wiped his face with a towel and casually asked, “What gaydar?”
Wen Fei immediately bounced off the bed. “That hot guy on campus I was into a while ago! I’m thinking of confessing to him, but these two jerks keep insisting he might not be gay!”
“He probably isn’t,” Jia Rong rolled his eyes. “Every hot guy you see, you think he’s gay.”
“Bullshit.” Wen Fei grabbed Lu Nanyang and practically jabbed a finger in his face. “Look at our Lu-ge. He’s handsome, right? Does he look gay? He’s obviously straight.”
“…” Lu Nanyang calmly pushed his finger away. “Go for it. Good luck with your 36th confession.”
Wen Fei was somewhat of a celebrity in their school. He loved dressing up, crossdressing, and confessing to handsome guys. The only thing he hadn’t done yet was tattoo “I’m gay” on his forehead. But he rarely succeeded in his confessions, and even when he did, they were short-lived. Lu Nanyang couldn’t understand where his enthusiasm for trying again came from.
That said, Wen Fei had a great personality and got along well with his roommates. For some reason, though, he was dead set on the belief that Lu Nanyang was definitely straight—and Lu Nanyang couldn’t be bothered to correct him.
What surprised him was Wen Fei’s next line, which came out a little deflated, “But… I’m kind of scared. Lu-ge, can you go with me?”
Lu Nanyang was genuinely shocked. “Scared?”
He thought Wen Fei had confessed to every hot guy within a hundred-mile radius. Was there actually someone out there he didn’t dare confess to?
Da Ze echoed his thoughts. “Who is this person? I didn’t think there was anyone on this planet you, oh Great Wen, were afraid to confess to.”
Wen Fei rolled his eyes in a beautiful arc, took a sip from the cup on the table, and said, “Lu-ge, you’ve seen him before. Last time we went out for a late-night snack, he was the handsome guy standing in front of the cold drink fridge at the small convenience store next to the barbecue shop.”
Lu Nanyang: ?
How the hell does anyone remember that?
“I later asked around with the photo, and found out that he’s from our school, but…” Wen Fei rested his chin in his hand, sighing sadly, “I heard he’s the heartthrob of the neighboring dorm, handsome with a great personality. So many people like him, they could fill two dining halls. Do you think I’ll have a chance?”
Lu Nanyang: …
So he really thought he had a chance before?
……
Lu Nanyang didn’t want to go with Wen Fei to confess his feelings.
He hadn’t slept all night, his head was about to explode from the pain, and he was holding in a lot of anger. Plus, from what he understood, Wen Fei was about to fail at confessing anyway.
But he couldn’t stop Wen Fei from whining in his ear at lunch, “Lu-ge, aren’t we brothers?”
“No,” Lu Nanyang replied.
Wen Fei paused for a moment, then continued his lament, “As brothers, are you really going to watch me stay single like this? It’s been a month and six days since my last breakup. If this keeps up, I’ll grow old and no one will want me…”
Lu Nanyang sighed, “But you already know your confession has no chance. Do you really think bringing me along will help?”
“Come on, Lu-ge, you’ve got to help me all the way!” Wen Fei pestered. “You’ve done it before, right? You’ve helped me with several successful ones! This time it will work too! Trust in your charm, Lu-ge!”
“Are you confessing or am I?” Lu Nanyang countered.
Wen Fei moved closer to Lu Nanyang, seriously saying, “Have you heard of a term called ‘the fox borrowing the tiger’s power’?”
Lu Nanyang: …
Crazy.
Fine, it’s just another confession that will obviously be rejected, probably won’t even take ten minutes.
After the confession, they could head back to the dorm and nap.
“Treat me to a meal,” Lu Nanyang finally said, throwing the last dumpling into his mouth.
Wen Fei cheered and threw his arms around Lu Nanyang’s neck. “Lu-ge! I knew you were the best!”
Lu Nanyang immediately felt a surge of anger, “Damn, let go!”
Wen Fei smiled and patted his arm, “Relax, I won’t lay a hand on a straight guy like you—”
Halfway through his words, Wen Fei suddenly stopped, loosening his grip around Lu Nanyang’s neck. Only then did Lu Nanyang manage to swallow the dumpling.
“Damn, the handsome guy’s here for lunch! I see him!” Wen Fei slapped Lu Nanyang’s back. “He’s at Window 2!”
Lu Nanyang had zero interest in the handsome guy Wen Fei was talking about, and didn’t even bother to look up. “Oh.”
After thinking for a while, Wen Fei suggested, “Maybe I should confess now?”
Lu Nanyang choked on his food and coughed twice, “Now?”
The cafeteria was crowded, he had just finished his dumpling, and now he was supposed to accompany Wen Fei for a public confession, knowing it would be rejected?
“It’s fine, I wrote a love letter. I’ll just walk over and hand it to him,” Wen Fei stood up, looking determined.
Oh, well then…
Before Lu Nanyang could even think the word “okay,” he saw Wen Fei take out an envelope that was pink and covered in little hearts and sparkling stars.
…
Who would accept a letter like this?
At least pick something normal! Don’t embarrass yourself!
Before Lu Nanyang could open his mouth, Wen Fei grabbed his arm and dragged him firmly toward Window 2.
Throughout the whole ordeal, Lu Nanyang only had time to wipe his mouth and felt like his life was doomed.
At least, it would all be over soon, and he could go back to the dorm and sleep.
As they got closer, Lu Nanyang saw the handsome guy Wen Fei had mentioned.
There were quite a few people near Window 2, but Lu Nanyang immediately locked onto the target.
The “heartthrob” was clearly different from the others. Just from his back, Lu Nanyang could tell.
His body proportions were perfect, with a slim waist and long legs, and he was at least half a head taller than the guy standing next to him. Lu Nanyang estimated he was about the same height as himself.
He was 1.85 meters barefoot and rarely found anyone who could look him in the eye when walking.
“Oh no, what should I do? I’m so nervous,” Wen Fei patted his chest.
“…If you’re nervous, maybe wipe your mouth first.” Lu Nanyang said flatly, “You’ve got chives stuck between your teeth.”
“Huh? Really?” Wen Fei was startled, quickly pulling out his phone to check.
Lu Nanyang looked up again, briefly glancing over in that direction.
The handsome guy, who Wen Fei had been eyeing, was getting his food. He was wearing a clean short-sleeved shirt, his arm was pale enough to shine, holding a metal tray. Lu Nanyang heard a soft and magnetic voice coming from his direction.
“More chili, please, thank you.”
The voice made Lu Nanyang momentarily dazed, and memories of the absurd night before flashed in his mind.
No way.
Lu Nanyang reassured himself that there were many people who sounded similar, and that person definitely wouldn’t speak in that tone. There’s no way such a ridiculous coincidence could happen…
The next second, the person they were staring at seemed to sense something and turned around.
Lu Nanyang’s gaze was unguarded, and their eyes met directly.
