DCISBS chapter 58

Woof

Lu Nanyang lowered his head and bit hard at the corner of Xie Quan’s lips.

The tender skin broke immediately, and a small drop of blood slowly oozed from the wound.

Xie Quan winced and pulled back, shoving Lu Nanyang. “Are you a dog or what?!”

Unbelievable.

He had no idea how many bites Lu Nanyang had already stolen in the elevator—and if it had been him doing it, he’d be cursed out.

“I bit you on purpose, you heartless brat,” Lu Nanyang looked down at him arrogantly, raising his chin. “Woof.”

Xie Quan couldn’t hold back his laughter, which tugged at the corner of his injured lip, twisting his expression into a grimace.

Lu Nanyang propped himself up, about to get off of him. Just as he was about to sit up, Xie Quan suddenly grabbed his wrist, his long, pale fingers climbing upward like a dance.

Lu Nanyang looked down to see Xie Quan squinting his eyes, messy hair falling over his forehead, glasses tilted awkwardly on his nose, a sharp and cunning smile on his face.

Xie Quan bent one leg, his knee slowly sliding onto Lu Nanyang’s thigh, snaking inward from the outside, lifting his foot—his nimble toes gave a playful squeeze to a certain hot, hard organ.

“When my body recovers, you can fuck me however you want,” Xie Quan’s voice was hoarse, seductive. “Whatever I did to you that day, you can give it all back to me… double if you like. I’ll be waiting.”

Lu Nanyang gasped, springing up from Xie Quan’s body. “You’re doing this on purpose!”

Xie Quan gave an innocent smile, his eyes curving like crescent moons, face clearly saying: What else did you think?

…This bastard.

Lu Nanyang rudely threw the blanket over Xie Quan’s head. “Lie down and behave! Don’t think I won’t do anything to you.”

Xie Quan chuckled under the covers. “Oh no~ I’m so scared~”

After a while, not hearing any reply, Xie Quan peeked his eyes out from the blanket and saw Lu Nanyang putting on his jacket.

“You’re heading out?” he asked.

“Going to get you some medicine,” Lu Nanyang replied.

“This early?” Xie Quan frowned.

He could tell Lu Nanyang clearly didn’t sleep much last night. The dark circles under his eyes were obvious, and he looked pale.

It was only just 7 a.m. Wasn’t he going to get a bit more rest?

“It’s not early. The pharmacy’s open,” Lu Nanyang zipped his jacket briskly. “Can’t delay medicine. The sooner the better.”

“But…” Xie Quan still looked displeased, but before he could say more, Lu Nanyang cut him off.

He bent down naturally and gave Xie Quan a light kiss on the cheek, like a dragonfly skimming the water. “Just lie down and rest. Wait for me to come back, okay? Be good.”

Xie Quan froze, his brain short-circuiting completely. Only after Lu Nanyang had walked out of the bedroom and the door closed did he slowly come back to his senses, his cheeks flushing red layer by layer.

…Fuck.

Since when did this dumb dog get so smooth?

Xie Quan buried his face in his palm, the spot where he’d been kissed burning hot, his heart pounding wildly.

……

The late summer morning held a hint of chill. Cold wind rustled through the branches, making the leaves rustle. As soon as Lu Nanyang stepped downstairs, he sneezed three times in a row, each louder than the last.

An auntie from the neighborhood was walking a curly-haired little poodle. The dog was startled by the sneezes and began barking madly at him.

“Oh dear, did you catch a chill?” the auntie asked, concerned. “It’s been getting cold fast these days—you better take care of yourself.”

Lu Nanyang rubbed his itchy nose. “Maybe.”

“You young folks these days are all delicate, like Lin Daiyu,” the auntie scolded lightly. “No exercise. Back in our day, we still had to work even if it was pouring rain!”

“Yeah, I should work out more,” Lu Nanyang smiled at her. “I’ll be off then.”

The little poodle quickly stopped barking after being left behind. Lu Nanyang pulled his jacket tighter and walked briskly toward the pharmacy.

It was still early, so there weren’t many pedestrians. Most were high schoolers hurrying to early classes, their faces serious and focused, some walking while eating breakfast.

Time really flew by—it was already the last day of the holiday.

So much had happened over this break that he could barely remember what life was like before meeting Xie Quan.

Back to school, turning in reports, attending classes—on the surface, nothing had changed, yet everything felt drastically different.

Xie Quan was his boyfriend now.

Calling it the most unbelievable thing to ever happen in his life wouldn’t even be an exaggeration.

If someone had told him three months ago that Xie Quan would become his boyfriend, he’d have broken that person’s nose.

But somehow, it had all felt so natural.

Xie Quan was so different from him, yet somehow, they were the same. Lu Nanyang even felt that maybe there wasn’t another person in the world who could be so unlike him, yet understand him so completely.

Like they were mirrors reflecting each other’s truest selves.

And all the things Xie Quan feared—hadn’t he feared them too?

Lu Nanyang closed his eyes and shook his heavy head, trying to shake off the messy thoughts.

Now wasn’t the time for all this nonsense. He was just tired from last night.

The morning wind wasn’t helping him wake up, and after just a few steps, his phone started vibrating in his pocket.

Almost like he had a sixth sense, he stopped walking before pulling it out. The screen displayed bold characters: “Lu Zhanlei.”

“Hello?”

“Hello your fucking ass,” the voice on the other end snapped, spewing curses immediately.

Lu Nanyang shut his eyes and forced himself to tamp down his emotions.

“You really think you’re something, huh, Lu Nanyang? Who’s the young master here, you or me?” Lu Zhanlei sneered. “Nothing gets through to you, huh? What, do the Lu family need to crawl to your front door and kneel before you’ll even look at us again?”

Lu Nanyang took a deep breath, trying his best to keep his tone calm. “Zhanlei, I told you before—this summer we’re doing social practice work. It’s been pretty busy…”

“Cut the crap,” Lu Zhanlei sneered. “Save that story for Mom. I go to Yuncheng university too, you know—I’m not clueless. Didn’t Mom call you a while back?”

Lu Nanyang stayed silent.

“You fucking bastard, does it really take a goddamn royal procession to get you to come back home?” Lu Zhanlei’s voice rose. “Do you even have a conscience? It’s been so long—has she ever called you like that before? Didn’t you think about why?”

Lu Nanyang frowned. “What happened to her?”

“She’s in the hospital! Heart problems! It’s been two fucking weeks already!” Lu Zhanlei shouted.

Lu Nanyang felt a jolt in his chest, like the air had been sucked out of his lungs.

“…Is she okay now?”

“She’s hanging in there, not dead yet. But if you keep dragging your feet, she might be discharged before you even bother to show your face,” Lu Zhanlei said sarcastically.

Only then did Lu Nanyang let out a breath, tightening his grip on the phone.

“Zhanlei, you know school starts tomorrow.” He lowered his voice. “Once the semester starts, the schedule gets packed. We’ve got classes and exams—I might not have time to—”

Lu Zhanlei laughed coldly on the other end.

“So when exactly are you planning to come back? When she’s dead and being cremated?”

“Lu Zhanlei!” Lu Nanyang snapped. “Who the hell taught you to talk like that?”

“Oh, so now you remember how to act like a big brother?” Lu Zhanlei roared. “But where the fuck were you when we actually needed you, huh?!”

Here we go again.

Lu Nanyang’s sleep-deprived head throbbed at his temples. Over the years, every single conversation with Lu Zhanlei ended up like this—no exceptions.

Didn’t Lu Zhanlei get tired of this? Because Lu Nanyang sure as hell did. He was too exhausted to fight anymore.

He tried again, calmly, “Zhanlei, you’re their biological son. I’m not. When Madam Lu was hospitalized, who do you think she’d want by her side? You, not me.”

Lu Zhanlei was silent for a moment… then let out a bitter laugh.

“So you want to say you’re not part of the Lu family, is that it?” he said, laughing. “Fine. Then pay them back every cent they spent raising you. Return every ounce of love and effort they gave you over the last decade. Cut it out of yourself and hand it back to the Lu family!”

He nearly screamed that last sentence, his voice cracking with emotion.

“When I got kidnapped, they raised you for thirteen years! Treated you like the Lu family’s only heir! Groomed you to inherit everything! If you’ve got the guts, return it all—return everything Mom and Dad ever hoped for you! Would you still be so high and mighty then, huh?!”

A suffocating sense of heaviness crashed over Lu Nanyang, leaving him breathless. Every inhale felt like tiny needles stabbing into his lungs—sharp, chaotic, and overwhelming.

When he came back to his senses, he realized he had already hung up the call.

Silence surrounded him. Then gradually, morning birdsong and the distant hum of traffic reached his ears again.

Lu Zhanlei was probably ready to explode from rage.

Lu Nanyang took two deep breaths, slapped his cheeks lightly, and forced a smile onto his face.

No more thinking about this—not now.

Xie Quan was still waiting at home for the medicine. He had to pull himself together.
