The two stepped into the elevator together.
“Want me to hold your hand?”
“I’m fine.”
Perhaps because he found it amusing to tease him on that first day, Director Yeon had made a habit of asking this every time they got into an elevator. Not just at home but also at the office. And today alone, Jeong Heeyeon had refused him the same way four times.
Today, it was the fourth time he’d asked, and Jung Heeyeon declined with the same polite sincerity as before. Even though it might’ve annoyed someone else, Jung Heeyeon didn’t seem the least bit irritated, giving another gentle refusal. Amused, Director Yeon chuckled softly. Just 30 minutes ago, the exact same situation had played out as they left the office.
The elevator began to ascend with a soft chime. Jung Heeyeon fidgeted with his cardigan sleeve instead of holding Director Yeon’s hand, waiting quietly until they reached their destination. The elevator didn’t stop until it reached the top. Looking closer, Jung Heeyeon noticed there was only one button.
“Come on.”
The doors opened, and Jung Heeyeon followed Director Yeon out of the elevator. The quiet hallway exuded a warm atmosphere instead of feeling desolate. He noticed trees similar to the potted plants he had seen on the way here. Pretty, sparkling lights adorned the fresh, pointed leaves, adding to the charm.
While Jung Heeyeon was distracted by the lights, someone suddenly appeared in front of them.
“Director. You’ve arrived.”
Startled by the unexpected appearance, Jung Heeyeon instinctively stepped back. Director Yeon extended a hand, resting it lightly near his waist as if to steady him.
“Ah, you seem quite lively today.”
“Apologies, sir. It’s been a while since I last saw you.”
The man, wearing a sleek black suit, had a name tag reading Choi Yoon. As Director Yeon’s personal shopper, he quickly composed himself when he noticed the Omega standing close to his employer.
“I was curious about your unusual request. I see now it was a gift for this gentleman.”
Jung Heeyeon followed Director Yeon’s lead, moving his steps as guided. When they turned toward the direction Choi Yoon had come from, a room connected to the hallway came into view. The room had a long sofa placed alongside a table, and the hangers were packed with clothes. On the glass table, a tray was filled with colorful round objects whose purpose he couldn’t quite figure out.
“Director.”
“Yeah.”
Jung Heeyeon asked as he sat down beside Director Yeon on the sofa.
“What are those?”
Director Yeon tilted his head, following Jung Heeyeon’s gaze to the tray on the table. Jung Heeyeon’s cardigan sleeve, half-covering his hand, pointed toward the objects. The tray contained vibrantly colored macarons, along with tarts and slices of cake arranged beneath them.
“Want to try one?”
”…Are they edible?”
“Of course.”
Jung Heeyeon squinted at the macarons skeptically. They didn’t look like food—too beautiful, too hard. The vivid yellows, blues, and reds seemed unnatural for desserts.
“They’re real.”
Director Yeon, reading Jung Heeyeon’s thoughts, smirked and picked one up. He bit into it deliberately, his expression scrunching as the sweet flavor hit his tongue.
Seeing Director Yeon’s reaction, Jung Heeyeon let out a small noise of concern. He felt guilty, realizing Director Yeon didn’t like sweet things and had only taken a bite to reassure him.
“You didn’t have to eat it…”
“Heeyeon wouldn’t believe me otherwise.”
Director Yeon teased, deliberately feigning guilt-tripping. Jung Heeyeon, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the man was teasing him, fidgeted nervously and tapped his foot lightly against the floor.
“I’ll eat the rest of it.”
After a moment of hesitation, Jung Heeyeon suddenly grabbed Director Yeon’s hand. Then, opening his lips, he moved to eat the macaron from the man’s hand. His soft lips brushed against the Alpha’s fingertips. The tip of his tongue hovered tantalizingly close to contact, creating a tension-filled moment At that exact moment, Director Yeon’s gaze sharpened. Soon, the macaron in the Alpha’s hand disappeared between the Omega’s lips.
“How is it?”
Director Yeon’s voice sounded restrained, as if suppressing something inexplicable.
“It’s sweet.”
Jung Heeyeon replied, his brows frowning. He didn’t seem to enjoy the macaron much. To Director Yeon, macarons and soft, chewy jellies were all the same kind of sweetness, but to Jung Heeyeon, it seemed like there was a distinct difference.
“Is he your partner? I don’t think I’ve ever met your partner before.”
Choi Yoon, tidying up the clothing rack, smiled with professional ease.
“My partner?”
Director Yeon glanced briefly in the direction of Choi Yoon’s gaze. Jung Heeyeon, wearing a gentle expression, was sipping bitter green tea as if trying to wash away the sweetness.
Partner, huh? He wasn’t sure if Jung Heeyeon fit that description. While some people paraded around with much younger Alphas or Omegas as partners, Director Yeon had no such tendencies.
“Who knows.”
Instead of denying it, Director Yeon leaned back against the sofa and offered an ambiguous answer.
He didn’t bother denying it, as it was all part of his plan to create rumors about Jung Heeyeon and himself. From this point forward, he intended to let the rumors spread—the rumor that there was an Omega by his side. No one would know that the Omega in question was Chairman Jung’s grandson. After all, Chairman Jung had gone to great lengths to keep him hidden, making it nearly impossible for anyone to uncover the truth.
As a result, any rumors about Jung Heeyeon would spread slowly, especially since the intended target of those rumors—Chairman Jung, who was overseas—would be even harder to reach. The aging Alpha was currently absent from Korea and completely unaware that his grandson had been whisked away. This was all thanks to Lee Yootae, the butler responsible for managing Jung Heeyeon, who had fallen under Chief Nam’s control.
That Beta man, in order to repay a debt he owed to Chief Nam, fabricated an alibi for Jung Heeyeon and reported it to Chairman Jung. At this rate, the chairman wouldn’t learn the full truth until next year at the earliest.
Director Yeon tapped his foot lightly, recalling the bruises that had marked Jung Heeyeon’s body.
Jung Heeyeon stepped out wearing the clothes Choi Yoon had picked for him—a clean-cut coat, dark jeans, and a soft ivory sweater. Director Yeon, still leaning against the sofa, shifted his gaze, scanning Jung Heeyeon from head to toe. For a moment, he felt like he understood why Chief Nam, who was rumored to enjoy playing dress-up with her lovers, indulged in such a hobby.
“Is something wrong?”
When Jung Heeyeon noticed the silent stare, he seemed to assume there was something to be said and parted his lips hesitantly.
“You’re pretty.”
“Oh… thank you.”
Despite being called pretty, Jung Heeyeon didn’t blush but simply lowered his head in gratitude. His subdued reaction made Director Yeon chuckle softly.
“Try on another one.”
“Right away. Would you like to try this one next?”
For the next hour, Director Yeon played dress-up with Jung Heeyeon, putting him in one outfit after another. Though it must have been exhausting, Jung Heeyeon moved diligently, following instructions without complaint. His expressionless face showed no preference for or against any outfit, but that somehow only added to Director Yeon’s amusement.
“Take all of them.”
“Yes, sir! Thank you, Director!”
Choi Yoon beamed as he began packing up the clothes. While placing them into shopping bags, he subtly glanced at Jung Heeyeon. It was clear they were close, given how much care Director Yeon pampered him, yet it was the first time Choi Yoon had seen him. Judging by his appearance, there was a high probability he was an Omega, though there were rare Betas with looks that rivaled those of Omegas, so it wasn’t certain. Though, Choi Yoon was sure that amusing rumors about Director Yeon would soon be circulating.
“Would you like to leave wearing what you have on now?”
“Ah.”
At the kind suggestion, Jung Heeyeon hesitated. He didn’t particularly mind what he wore, but the cardigan he had worn earlier came to mind.
The truth was, Jung Heeyeon liked wearing Director Yeon’s clothes. He had even sought advice from Kim Jiwon, worried that his preference might be strange. Kim Jiwon had laughed heartily and reassured him, saying, “It’s just because you’ve never been exposed to an Alpha before. Alpha pheromones have a calming effect on Omegas.”
“Heeyeon.”
Noticing his trivial dilemma, Director Yeon called out to him in a low voice.
Director Yeon was well aware that Jung Heeyeon liked wearing his clothes. After all, he had sought advice on the matter right in front of him. A socially unaware Omega, Jung Heeyeon had directly asked Kim Jiwon, “Do you think there’s something strange with me?” while Director Yeon himself was present.
From that day on, Director Yeon realized that his clothes served as a kind of comfort blanket for Jung Heeyeon.
“Yes?”
“If you don’t want to, you should say no.”
“Ah, but…”
“Do what you want. Do you want to change back into what you were wearing?”
“Yes. I’ll go change.”
“Of course! Please do.”
Quick to pick up on the situation, Choi Yoon replied brightly. While Jung Heeyeon changed, Choi Yoon packed the remaining clothes into the car and tactfully left.
