“Jung Heeyeon…”

Calling out the dear name, the man shifted slightly. A shadow formed, and the pale face illuminated by moonlight was swallowed by darkness. Yeon Woobeom gazed silently at the face now consumed by the shadow, holding his breath. Jung Heeyeon was constantly bathed in light, and each time, he felt an urge to pull the small omega into his own world—an impulse he couldn’t quite name.

“I might be dangerous for you, Heeyeon.”

Yeon Woobeom murmured toward the sleeping omega in a surprisingly tender tone. After staring at Jung Heeyeon intently, he slowly stepped back. At that moment, blue light seeped over the pale, bare body. Unlike him, who slept in suffocating darkness, Jung Heeyeon always drifted off under bright, pouring light.

That’s why the man, uncharacteristically, had opened the bedroom curtains. So Jung Heeyeon could sleep comfortably.

With the habit of moving without a sound, he left the bedroom without so much as a whisper of noise. In the room, perpetually steeped in darkness, only the sleeping omega remained, bathed in the white glow of dawn.

This was Yeon Woobeom’s domain, but the one occupying the bed was Jung Heeyeon.

Stepping into the living room, Director Yeon paused before heading to the balcony. A low chuckle escaped his lips as he noticed something. Reaching out, he picked up a cardigan that had fallen onto the sofa. It was his own clothing, which was practically Jung Heeyeon’s comfort blanket.

When he buried his nose in it, a pheromone scent wafted up. Not his own, but the rich fragrance of gardenias, a scent impossible to encounter in winter. Thinking of the omega who was practically drenched in his pheromones, he slipped the cardigan on. With his pheromones fully unleashed for once, wearing it would let the scent seep into the clothing. And then Jung Heeyeon would wear it again.

Stepping outside, the cold wind tousled his hair. Director Yeon pulled out a cigarette with an impassive face, as if the chill didn’t faze him.

He planned to substitute his barely suppressed lust with the urge to smoke. The metallic clink of a lighter followed, and a white cigarette settled between his well-defined lips. Red embers flared, taking over the dark night sky. The acrid smoke seeping into his body wasn’t half bad.

Thinking about Jung Heeyeon who was sleeping in his bedroom naturally reminded him of his meeting with Kang Seoui. He’d met the illegitimate son of the Sunha Group, Managing Director Kang, to discuss matters related to Chairman Jung. Director Yeon mulled over their conversation.

‘I’ve prepared something I think you’ll like, Director Yeon. Take a look.’

That expression had been brimming with confidence. Director Yeon scanned the documents Kang Seoui handed over, lazily lifting the corner of his mouth.

‘Interesting.’

‘Glad you find it entertaining.’

‘To be honest, I didn’t think you’d pull it off, Managing Director Kang.’

Instead of taking offense, Kang Seoui grinned.

‘Well, I figured you’d think that.’

‘You must really want to take over Sunha, huh?’

’Is there anything wrong with having big ambitions? Who knows, maybe I’ll climb to the president’s seat and then become the chairman? Isn’t the living proof of that standing right in front of me, Director Yeon?’

Director Yeon, flipping through the papers, shifted only his eyes to meet Kang Seoui’s gaze across from him. Seeing the rare sight of the other flinch, Director Yeon smiled thinly. His lips stretched into a sharp, chilling line.

‘Our situation is not the same, Managing Director Kang.’

‘…’

‘I had just wanted to rip and kill that bastard apart. I didn’t care about climbing to this position.’

His voice was totally gentle, a stark contrast to the icy menace in his eyes.

‘The current Jiwoo is just the result of that. Purpose and outcome are distinctly different, aren’t they?’

‘Well…’

‘Anyway, since you’ve shown your sincerity, Managing Director Kang, I’ll return the favor.’

The conversation had dragged on longer than expected, but the outcome was quite satisfying.

Director Yeon stubbed out his cigarette, staring into the pitch-black darkness. The final puff of his smoke swirled through the air like moonlight.

It was hunting time.

After a moment of contemplation, the man brushed off the cigarette smell and stepped back inside with quiet strides. Since it was Jung Heeyeon’s first heat, he figured it’d be best to stay by his side. Uncharacteristically dressed on the bed, he didn’t lie down next to Jung Heeyeon but instead leaned against the headboard. His outstretched arm gently stroked the sleeping omega’s hair.

“Mmph…”

Perhaps finding the touch pleasant, Jung Heeyeon squirmed closer. Just then, his phone vibrated. Normally, he’d have answered it right away, but the sleeping omega beside him weighed on his mind. Director Yeon tousled Jung Heeyeon’s hair, his fingers slowly tracing the soft curve of his ear. The omega let out a faint whimper but showed no sign of waking, his deeply shut eyelids guarding his eyes.

Confirming that he was sound asleep, the man reached out slowly and answered the call.

“Yeah.”

Director, we got a call from Chief Nam.

It was still early morning, so Director Yeon had assumed it’d be urgent. Sure enough, it was the news he’d been waiting for.

She says they found the goods.

“Got it.”

What will be the next plan? There is no issue moving it straight away right now.

The man’s gaze remained fixed on Jung Heeyeon. Perhaps the sound leaking out disturbed his sleep, as his smooth brow furrowed slightly. Director Yeon patted the sleeping omega gently, keeping his voice low as he cut the call short.

“Send the details by text.”

Pardon? Did you say text?

Kim Chulwoo sounded puzzled. And understandably so—Director Yeon wasn’t fond of handling business inefficiently. That included dealing with urgent matters through anything other than a phone call.

“The baby is sleeping.”

It was a rather shameless response. After a long silence, Kim Chulwoo stammered out his reply before ending the call.

…Yes, understood.

After hanging up, the man responded to the incoming messages one by one. The light from his phone illuminated his cold, composed face. His fingers lingered briefly on the screen before gliding smoothly to complete the final sentence.

[Rough up Lee Yootae a bit more and dig into the baby’s past.]

Jung Heeyeon had said he’d started living with Chairman Jung at age five. That meant he must’ve been with his parents before then. Lowering his gaze to look at Jung Heeyeon, he unexpectedly met the omega’s eyes. Long lashes fluttered delicately as Jung Heeyeon stared up at him.

“D-Director…”

A voice, slurred and heavy with sleep, called out to him.

“Yeah, Heeyeon.”

“Let’s sleep together…”

Sleeping beside him might become a problem. Whether Jung Heeyeon knew what was on Director Yeon’s mind or not, he flashed a faint smile.

“Haaa…”

In the end, Director Yeon let out a sigh akin to a hollow laugh and lay down on the bed. As if asking to be held, Jung Heeyeon naturally nestled into his arms. Lying on his side and pulling the small omega close, Director Yeon felt soft, fluffy hair brush against his chest.

“Heeyeon.”

Jung Heeyeon didn’t respond. He was already asleep, breathing evenly.

“Sleep tight.”

Director Yeon lowered his head and pressed a kiss to the round crown of Jung Heeyeon’s head. The dawn light streaming through the window bathed Jung Heeyeon before spilling onto him.

It was an unfamiliar light. And, an unfamiliar moment.
