Min Zhi threw the thick document in his hand aside and stood up, pinching his nose.
It rained heavily all night yesterday, and it hasn’t stopped yet. Raindrops fell straight down, and the windows seemed to be dripping with water. Through the blurred glass, he saw a man holding a gray-blue umbrella standing by the flowerbed at the entrance of the company.
He’s been standing there for some time now, his trousers and feet are mostly soaked, as though he’s waiting for someone.
“Knock, knock…”
He retracted his gaze. “Come in.”
A tall man walked into the office from outside. “President Min, are you looking for me?”
When he saw that it was Fu Baiqi, Min Zhi relaxed completely. Using his own skills, he filtered out the other scents around him and focused on the pheromones emanating from the man that fascinated him.
It wouldn’t be entirely right to say it smelled like chamomile. It was more like the subtle scent left after showering with chamomile-scented body wash, then pressing your face into your clothes to capture that lingering warmth—it was a soft, calming fragrance. But for some reason, lately, the scent had become almost unbearably faint, nearly vanishing altogether.
He reached out and took the document Fu Baiqi had submitted earlier that morning. “There are a few sections in your proposal that aren’t very clear. Take it back and make revisions.”
“Which parts are the problem?”
As the distance shortened, the chamomile pheromone grew stronger. Along with it, there was a strange, almost aggressive woody scent. The two fragrances combined, creating a slightly distorted aroma.
This is not surprising, Fu Baiqi is a high-quality Alpha, and such pheromones are normal.
Generally speaking, Alpha’s pheromones are not as mild as Omega’s, and most of them are heavy and aggressive.
But Min Zhi truly enjoyed the scent of Fu Baiqi’s pheromones; no, it would be more accurate to say he was obsessed with it. Nearly every time he caught a whiff of it, even unintentionally, he would completely relax. Even when he was alone at home, he would always think about it.
Of course, he also likes Fu Baiqi, an Alpha who is capable, handsome, and perceptive, and has always been his ideal partner.
That’s right, Alpha partner.
But Min Zhi is not an Omega; he is a super A-gender individual from this era. His two fathers are Alphas, so he was born different from ordinary Alphas. He possesses abilities stronger than those of S-level Alphas and has exceptionally aggressive pheromones.
He is not the first human of this kind. Researchers refer to this group as Enigmas. They dominate all genders, with their aggressive pheromones capable of even transforming an Alpha into an Omega. In addition to their pheromones, their IQ and physical abilities far exceed those of ordinary people. Enigmas can be found in almost every upper class around the world.
For all Enigmas, an Alpha partner is considered the ideal choice, a long-standing tradition. Omegas are too weak for them and can be easily hurt. There are also other reasons—Alphas are more capable of arousing an Enigma’s desires than Omegas. As a result, most Enigmas prioritize choosing Alphas with stronger physiques when selecting a partner.
However, there are still a considerable number of Enigmas who will choose Omega. Min Zhi is obviously not one of them. He is not interested in Omega at all.
Fu Baiqi, an S-level Alpha, has a cold and strikingly handsome face. His personality mirrors his appearance—cold and distant, like a proud swan always looking down upon others. However, he has the means to back up his demeanor: a family of scholars, a solid education from a young age, and an intelligence and capability that set him apart.
Almost no one would dislike this beautiful person.
Min Zhi is no exception.
Unfortunately, Fu Baiqi’s sexual orientation is omega, and everyone knew it soon after he joined the company.
And he seemed to have an Omega partner as well. Yesterday he saw the petite and lovely Omega pick him up at the company gate.
Min Zhi put down his pen. “You did well. Just fix these parts, and it should be good enough.”
Fu Baiqi nodded. “Got it, President Min.” With that, he picked up the document and walked out without looking back.
He stared at the closed door for a while, then shifted his gaze to the window. The rain had eased up quite a bit. He got up and looked outside—downstairs, the man holding a gray-blue umbrella was still standing there. Min Zhi let out a deep breath through his nose.
The next day, the rain had stopped, and the sunlight outside was so bright it almost hurt his eyes. Just as he was about to lower the blinds, he spotted the man standing by the flowerbed again. He wasn’t holding an umbrella today—just standing there in the full heat of the sun. From Min Zhi’s vantage point, he appeared as a tiny black dot.
Who exactly was he waiting for, to stand there unmoving, regardless of rain or wind, with no sign of leaving?
Min Zhi closed the blinds.
When he went out for lunch in the afternoon, as soon as he exited the elevator, he saw some people whispering outside the company.
Min Zhi glanced over in that direction and saw Fu Baiqi talking to a man, his face showing clear irritation. The man appeared anxious, his mouth moving as if he was saying something, his face flushed with urgency.
“What are they doing?”
The gossiping employees were startled when they noticed Min Zhi behind them. “P-President Min…!”
Min Zhi nodded, his gaze fixed on the two people outside. He asked, “Who is that person?”
The employees shook their heads in confusion, indicating they didn’t know.
“That man has been standing here since yesterday. It seems like he’s specifically waiting for Fu Baiqi.”
So it was the man standing by the flowerbed. Perhaps he was one of Fu Baiqi’s admirers. He looked so thin and frail, probably an Omega or Beta. His appearance was quite ordinary—just a plain kind of handsome. He was far less striking than the Omega who had been with Fu Baiqi last time, let alone compared to Fu Baiqi himself.
Min Zhi glanced at his watch, ready to leave, when he overheard someone say, “I heard… that’s probably Fu Baiqi’s wife…”
“What?!”
Everyone present, including Min Zhi, was stunned. They had never heard Fu Baiqi mention that he was married.
“Who told you that? Stop joking around.”
The person who spoke was known for gossiping around the office. Hearing Min Zhi’s response, she glanced at him, looking hesitant, as if she was unsure about speaking in front of the boss.
Min Zhi smiled at her. “It’s fine, I actually enjoy gossip too.”
That person felt a bit awkward and said vaguely, “When he first arrived yesterday, the security stopped him and wouldn’t let him in. The security asked who he was looking for, and he said he was looking for Fu Baiqi.”
“They asked him what his relationship with Fu Baiqi was. I happened to walk by at that moment and overheard him say he was Fu Baiqi’s wife.”
“Ah? It can’t be, right?”
“Then what about the Omega Xiao Fu was with a few days ago…”
“Is he also an Omega?”
“I don’t know. When I passed by, I didn’t smell any scent on him. He’s probably a Beta.”
Min Zhi frowned, not engaging in their conversation anymore. He gave them a brief nod and then left.
As he was leaving, he intentionally stepped a little closer to them, deciding it was better to find out the truth for himself rather than relying on baseless rumors from others.
When he was just a few meters away from the two of them, his footsteps clearly faltered.
He caught the familiar scent of pheromones—the warm, chamomile fragrance.
It was different from the usual faint, mixed scent—this time, it was much stronger, hitting him like a wave, almost overwhelming his senses. Filtering out everything else instinctively, the fragrance stood out sharply. Min Zhi’s breath quickened, his fingertips warming faintly. He raised his gaze to locate the source of the scent.
Fu Baiqi.
No, it wasn’t him. It was the man standing across from him.
The man wasn’t a Beta, but an Omega. For some reason, he was different from ordinary Omegas. His pheromones were so faint they were almost nonexistent, yet Min Zhi could still clearly smell the subtle fragrance emanating from his body.
Min Zhi quickened his pace.
This enticing scent would make him go into heat.
So Fu Baiqi was merely the carrier of that scent; the true source of the fragrance was actually that Omega.
In that case, it seemed that the Omega and Fu Baiqi indeed shared a special bond—at the very least, they must be living together. Otherwise, how could he be surrounded by that warm, chamomile scent?
The thought of that scent resurfaced, and Min Zhi furrowed his brow, feeling a surge of irritation.
How could it be an Omega?
