That night, Min Zhi remembered that he had left something in the study. After stepping out, he glanced toward the guest room but quickly diverted his gaze.

When he returned with the item, he intended to head straight to his bedroom, but his hand rested on the doorknob without turning it. Throughout the night, his mind kept drifting back to the image of Fang Fengzhi he had seen earlier.

Perhaps it was because he was still young, with all his emotions clearly written on his face. When Min Zhi looked over, he could see that Fang Fengzhi seemed listless, his eyelids drooping with little energy. Normally, even if their relationship wasn’t that close, out of politeness, he should have at least asked what was wrong.

But Min Zhi only glanced at him, and after eating, he quietly returned to his bedroom alone.

Their relationship was in a delicate state now. A step forward would be too much; a step back would be just right. Unfortunately, they’d come too far to retreat, and the only option left was to avoid getting any closer. They are just strangers living in the same house. They don’t know which words or actions will cross the safety line and cause waves in the other party. Saying nothing and doing nothing is the best way.

Min Zhi lowered his eyes and took a deep breath. Just as he was about to enter, he heard the sound of a door opening behind him. He turned his head and saw Fang Fengzhi opening his room door at that exact moment. Spotting Min Zhi standing across from him, Fang Fengzhi was clearly caught off guard. He looked like he was about to smile, but something seemed to cross his mind, and the smile faded halfway. With excessive politeness, he asked, “Not going to sleep yet, Sir?”

It wasn’t hard to guess, Fang Fengzhi was thinking the same thing as he was.

“Just came to grab something. I’m getting ready to sleep.”

“Oh…”

After that, neither of them said anything more. Silence fell between them, and the atmosphere grew a little awkward. Min Zhi’s hand was still on the doorknob, but he hadn’t gone in yet.

“And you?” Min Zhi looked at him and asked, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

Fang Fengzhi cast an unsteady glance at Min Zhi before quickly looking away. He scratched the side of his neck awkwardly and lowered his gaze. “Can’t really fall asleep.”

For some reason, looking at Fang Fengzhi standing across from him, Min Zhi suddenly felt he looked like a little puppy just pulled out of water with his ears drooping and all.

His hand suddenly left the doorknob. “Something bothering you?”

Fang Fengzhi watched as Min Zhi suddenly walked toward him, his heart skipping a beat. “N-No, it’s not that…” As Min Zhi got closer, the Enigma’s pheromones grew stronger. Flustered, Fang Fengzhi instinctively held his breath and unconsciously took a step back.

Min Zhi frowned slightly.

He walked up to him, step by step, and by the time he reached him, Fang Fengzhi’s face was completely flushed.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

The two were not too close, but Fang Fengzhi always felt that he was wrapped in Min Zhi’s pheromones and couldn’t breathe. He didn’t dare to look at Min Zhi’s face. “No, I’m just a little, a little hot…”

Min Zhi’s expression didn’t change as he looked at the Omega calmly. “Hot?” His gaze drifted to Fang Fengzhi’s chest, one of the buttons had been undone, revealing part of his collarbone. He did seem overheated, and it felt like the warmth was seeping out from that loosened collar, carrying with it the gentle scent of chamomile.

Fang Fengzhi felt a wave of dizziness. The sensation of being surrounded by Min Zhi’s pheromones was so comforting that he felt he might lose himself in it.

His body weakened without him realizing, and his breathing became more rapid.

There was nowhere left to retreat. His body weakly leaned against the door. Why wasn’t Min Zhi leaving? If this went on, he couldn’t guarantee he’d retain any sense of reason. “Mr. Min…” He lifted his head, trying to find an excuse to return to his room, but his gaze accidentally met Min Zhi’s.

His words were swallowed back down.

Min Zhi was staring intently at him, his gaze briefly drifting over the small mole on Fang Fengzhi’s eyelid before settling on his damp, longing eyes. An uncontrollable urge stirred within him.

Fang Fengzhi stood frozen, his head tilted back, holding his breath. Once again, a sense of fear rose in his heart, wanting to escape, but his feet wouldn’t move. He couldn’t even bring himself to blink. The two of them just stood there, locked in silence, their gazes fixed on each other. The air between them grew thin and tense, unbearably hot.

From earlier, Fang Fengzhi knew that two people who had no feelings for each other would never look at each other like this.

So, when Min Zhi leaned down, Fang Fengzhi wasn’t surprised. But when Min Zhi’s lips met his, a wave of panic and unease surged within him. He didn’t part his lips, his body stiffened, and his mind went blank, unsure of what to do next.

Now, they were both fully aware, and neither of them needed the pheromones. It was a kiss that held no purpose whatsoever.

But Min Zhi kissed him anyway. Not only that, he even reached out and tightly wrapped his arms around Fang Fengzhi’s body, pressing them closely together. Yet, there was no further movement—just their lips pressed together.

Fang Fengzhi didn’t understand why Min Zhi was doing this, nor could he comprehend why he hadn’t pushed him away. He stared with his eyes wided, frozen in place.

Soon, Min Zhi pulled away slightly, separating his lips from Fang Fengzhi’s. He bent down, resting his forehead against Fang Fengzhi’s. As he was once again being watched by Min Zhi, Fang Fengzhi felt his heart beating so fiercely it seemed it might burst out of his chest. Min Zhi looked like he was on the verge of speaking; Fang Fengzhi could sense it, even catching the subtle sounds rising in his throat moments before the words came. But Min Zhi didn’t say a word, only continued staring at him. There was something complex and unfathomable in his eyes, and Fang Fengzhi didn’t dare attempt to decipher it. Instead, a surge of emotion welled up inside him, it was a deep, aching bitterness that filled his chest.

He blinked, and in the moment his eyes closed, Min Zhi’s kiss was on him again.

This time was different. Min Zhi held him tightly, pressing his body closer, using more force with his kiss. Fang Fengzhi’s lips tingled from the intensity of it.

It was too close, their chests pressed tightly together. Fang Fengzhi seemed to feel Min Zhi’s heartbeat, but it also felt like his own. He couldn’t tell whose it was, he only knew it was fast and frantic, thumping loudly, the rhythm shaking his chest.

The tingling sensation spread throughout his body like an electric current. Fang Fengzhi felt powerless, and his legs were bent limply, relying entirely on Min Zhi’s arms for support. He felt Min Zhi bending down along his body again, using the tip of his tongue to pry open Fang Fengzhi’s teeth.

Fang Fengzhi no longer kept his mouth closed, obediently parting his lips. The moment their tongues met, they intertwined like two lonely fish that had been apart for years, twisting together, unable to separate. Without realizing it, Fang Fengzhi’s arms wrapped around Min Zhi’s neck, pressing them even closer together.

The Enigma took a step forward, pressing Fang Fengzhi against the door with a soft sound. Min Zhi suddenly pulled him up, standing straight. Due to their height difference, Fang Fengzhi’s legs dangled, his feet barely grazing the floor. He had to tilt his head back with effort to meet Min Zhi’s kiss.

A broad, firm hand landed on his lower back. Before Fang Fengzhi could react, Min Zhi lifted him by his hips, holding him up effortlessly.

!

Fang Fengzhi was startled, a soft gasp escaping his lips, only to be silenced again as Min Zhi’s lips and tongue pressed firmly against his.

Min Zhi held him firmly, one arm around his waist, the other beneath his hips, lifting Fang Fengzhi until he stood half a head taller than the towering Enigma. There was no need to crane his neck anymore. Instead, he clasped Min Zhi’s shoulders with both hands and lowered his head to kiss him.

But deep down, he was still afraid. He had never been held like this before—suspended in mid-air, the ground feeling dangerously far beneath him. Instinctively, his legs wrapped around Min Zhi’s waist, searching for a sense of security.

They became even closer.

Their bodies were pressed tightly together, and they could feel the heat from each other’s skin even through the thin cloth. Min Zhi kissed harder and harder, and Fang Fengzhi felt that his lips and tongue were numb and engorged. But neither of them stopped, as if they were extremely thirsty for each other, their hot breaths hitting each other’s faces, entwined, with no gap between their lips and teeth, flesh against flesh, lips against lips, chamomile and gunpowder entangled, and they completely fell into each other’s hot and humid secret place.

At some point, Min Zhi opened the door. Min Zhi carried him into the room, and the sound of saliva entangled between their lips continued. The two fell on the bed together, and their lips separated for only a second before Min Zhi pressed on again. Fang Fengzhi was completely buried in his shadow, and the smoke trapped him in place, it was extremely oppressive.

All the patience of so many days was released in such an instant. The pheromones of the marked person pushed him into heaven. He could not see anything clearly. There was bright light all around. He lived happily in the smell of gunpowder and never wanted to be sober.
