Flash marriage Chapter 11

Zhang Dai is such a strange person

Originally, they had scheduled the prenatal checkup for the weekend when Zhang Dai was free to accompany Chen Shuangshuang. However, the doctor they usually saw was off that day, so Chen Shuangshuang had to reschedule for a weekday.

Zhang Dai wanted to take time off work to go with her, but after a stern lecture from Chen Shuangshuang, he reluctantly went to work.

In the morning, before he left for work, he reminded her to be safe.

Before the wedding, the Zhang had family wanted to buy Chen Shuangshuang a car for commuting, but she used her persuasive skills to convince them to abandon this extravagant idea!

City A had too many cars and traffic restrictions, making it impossible to drive every day, she reasoned. Traffic jams during peak hours were terrible, and with yearly insurance, maintenance, and rising fuel costs, taking the subway was much more convenient!

In the afternoon, she happily held a sun umbrella and went to ride the multi-billion-dollar luxury subway.

As a special passenger, after registering on the subway app, she could confidently skip the queues, avoid security checks, and even had priority seating for pregnant women, making it extremely comfortable!

However, after the prenatal checkup, on her way back, it was evening rush hour and the situation looked much different!

During peak hours, the crowd was overwhelming, and whether you were elderly, a child, or pregnant, if there were no seats, everyone was treated equally, and you had to stand.

Moreover, with people constantly getting on and off, pushing and shoving, she clutched her belly tightly and tried her best to hold onto the handrail and stay steady.

Finally, she reached her stop, feeling a sense of accomplishment like winning a battle. Proudly, she sent a message to Zhang Dai to boast about her victory.

Zhang Dai felt a headache coming on. This person was so frugal, only thinking about saving money and not about safety.

He called her directly, “Chen Shuangshuang, didn’t I tell you to take a taxi? You’re heavily pregnant, squeezing into the subway during rush hour—do you have a death wish?”

Originally, she was happily sharing her victory, but his yelling instantly ruined her good mood, making her feel a bit aggrieved.

“You spendthrift! The money for a taxi could cover many subway rides! I went through all that trouble to save on taxi fare, and you scold me! You have no idea how terrifying the rush hour on Line 3 is, it’s impossible for ordinary people to get on! I stood for nine stops, my legs are sore, and I had to protect my belly with all my might to get out unscathed…”

On the other end of the phone, he cried pitifully, making Zhang Dai feel bad about his harsh tone.

Softening his tone, he asked, “Didn’t anyone notice you were pregnant and offer you a seat?”

Feeling his concern, her sadness eased a bit: “My belly isn’t that big yet, so people can’t tell I’m pregnant!”

He gently advised, “Next time, don’t save money in such a risky way! It’s very dangerous, and I’ll worry a lot!”

She obediently nodded, “Got it~ I’ve learned my lesson this time, I won’t make the same mistake again!”

“And the child is also my responsibility. I have an obligation to cover all expenses for you and the child! Stop calculating everything so meticulously! Don’t shortchange yourself!” He just wanted to take good care of her and the baby and hoped that she would give him a chance.

“Alright~” After enduring hardship for some time, Chen Shuangshuang realized that there was no point in saving every penny and trying to raise the child alone. It only made things harder. She needed to get used to Zhang Dai’s presence and let him share the burden, as he was the child’s father.

Because of the International Workers` Day, they had five days off. Chen Shuangshuang and Zhang Dai definitely had to go back home.

Chen Shuangshuang was over six months pregnant, with a noticeably big belly. With her changed mindset, she began to command Zhang Dai without any mental burden, and it became increasingly natural.

At noon, the two families had lunch at the Chen family home.

After lunch, Chen Shuangshuang lounged lazily on the sofa playing games. Suddenly feeling thirsty, she snapped her fingers at Zhang Dai, who was working on his laptop nearby, and lazily said, “Hey! Get your kid a glass of water!”

Zhang Dai obediently got up and went to the kitchen to get her some water.

Chen’s mother, who was watching TV, noticed the commotion and scolded her daughter, “You’re getting lazier by the day, like a pig! You can’t even get yourself a glass of water!”

“Mom, don’t think being a pig is easy. It takes skill to be a pig. You can’t be too fat, or you’ll get slaughtered!” she retorted seriously, taking the water Zhang Dai handed her and gulping it down before continuing her game.

“You’re so cheeky!” Chen’s mother said, giving her a light smack on the butt.

“Ouch, Mom! Be careful, there’s a baby in here!” she said, shamelessly using her pregnancy as a shield.

Seeing that she couldn’t discipline her daughter, Chen’s mother turned to her son-in-law, “Zhang Dai, you can’t spoil her! She’ll only get worse if you do…”

Chen’s mother went on and on, and Zhang Dai smiled and accepted the lecture.

In the evening, Chen Shuangshuang had a sudden urge to watch a movie, and the two managed to escape their parents’ watchful eyes and enjoy some freedom.

The commercial district was bustling with people, with various signboards and advertisements vying for attention. As night fell, the colorful neon lights illuminated the area. Although it wasn’t as bustling and prosperous as City A, it had its own unique small town charm.

“The movie starts in an hour. Let’s walk around first! It’s been a long time since I’ve wandered here!” Chen Shuangshuang led the way into the mall.

A mother and baby products store caught her attention. Her eyes lit up, and despite her big belly, she quickly dashed in, picking up the adorable toys and playing with them. Zhang Dai hurriedly tried to catch up.

Seeing that the customers were soon-to-be parents, the sales assistant enthusiastically approached them, “This sleep aid doll mimics the white noise of the womb, helping babies fall asleep quickly. It has a long battery life and can play continuously for three days and nights…”

Chen Shuangshuang listened intently, but then her indecisiveness kicked in, leaving her standing there, unable to choose.

Suddenly, she had a bright idea, turned to Zhang Dai, and asked with a mischievous smile, “Which of these two sleep aid dolls do you think is better?”

Based on the sales assistant’s introduction, Zhang Dai seriously compared and analyzed them, finally giving his suggestion, “This one is handmade, made of pure wool, feels more comfortable, and has multiple functions like reading out loud and playing music. It’s quite good!”

Chen Shuangshuang slyly smiled and then told the sales assistant, “We’ll take the one he didn’t choose!”

The sales assistant couldn’t help but twitch at the corners of her mouth, finding the couple’s interaction to be quite strange.

Zhang Dai helplessly smiled and silently followed the sales assistant to the counter to pay.

Chen Shuangshuang walked out of the store, holding a bag of stuffed toys, feeling particularly happy! It turned out that this spendthrift’s choices always hit the wrong mark. By excluding his selections, she wouldn’t make a mistake! She was so clever!

The movie they watched was about two sisters in a remote village who helped each other, fought against feudal oppression, ultimately achieved female enlightenment, and escaped to the mountains.

However, halfway through the movie, sobbing sounds came from the seat next to Zhang Dai. He instinctively turned to look and saw that she was already crying her heart out.

The faint light reflected from the screen cast a soft glow on her face, which was pale with a rosy tint. Her eyes were red and teary, with tears streaming down like they were free, and she used tissues to wipe her eyes messily. Her rosy lips moved as she murmured softly, “Waaah~ The sister broke her leg! Waaah~ How could she be so unlucky!…”

Zhang Dai had seen her low tear threshold before and wisely extended his hand, gently patting her back to help her cry more comfortably.

When the movie ended, Chen Shuangshuang was still staring intently at the screen, reluctant to move from her seat.

As people around them started leaving, Zhang Dai stood up and reminded her, “Let’s go! The movie is over!”

She gazed longingly at the screen and firmly said, “There must be an end-credit scene! I want to wait for it!”

Finally, after the end credits rolled, and her hoped-for end-credit scene didn’t appear, the staff came in to start cleaning up.

Reluctantly, she got up and followed Zhang Dai out of the cinema, complaining to him about the lack of an end-credit scene. He listened patiently, smiling helplessly.

On the way home, they passed a bubble tea shop, and feeling a bit thirsty, she happily ran in to place an order.

“What do you want to drink?” She handed her phone to Zhang Dai, letting him choose.

Without hesitation, Zhang Dai picked his favorite taro bubble tea and promptly placed the order.

“What are you doing? I haven’t ordered yet!” Chen Shuangshuang was furious and snatched her phone back to place her own order.

Zhang Dai calmly explained, “Pregnant women shouldn’t drink bubble tea!”

Chen Shuangshuang glared at him, feeling aggrieved. Indeed, only he could do something so infuriating!

Soon, Zhang Dai’s bubble tea arrived. He inserted the straw deeply and took a heavy sip, exclaiming with satisfaction, “Ah~ So delicious!”

In the scorching summer, Chen Shuangshuang’s cravings were hard to resist. She lowered her head, touching her belly, and mournfully said, “Oh, my poor baby~ Your dad is already treating you like this before you’re even born!”

Zhang Dai felt a bit embarrassed hearing this but remained firm for the sake of the baby. With a seemingly kind intention, he asked, “Do you really want to drink it?”

“Yes, yes!” Chen Shuangshuang nodded vigorously, her eyes full of longing.

To her surprise, he replied with a sly smile, “I can’t get you milk bubble tea, but I can surely make you a cup of milk when we get home! Haha!”
