Chapter 5: The Mission Ends on a Positive Note
When Mo Ming put me down, we were right outside the Mission Bureau. It’s usually empty here.
“Sorry.” He lowered his head, his ears drooping as if he had done something wrong.
I looked at him with confusion. “Why are you apologizing?”
He furrowed his brow and took out his phone. “Because of this.” He turned the phone towards me, and it was a photo of him and me in the mall, where he had forced CPR on me. It was also photoshopped with Fu Su pretending to kiss me.
“I can explain!” He said anxiously.
I sighed deeply. “Stop talking. The more you explain, the more confusing it gets. It’s better not to explain at all, and besides, your ability to explain… I seriously doubt it.” I didn’t say the second half of the sentence.
“I’ll explain!”
“Absolutely not!” I immediately shouted. He was taken aback, and I softened my tone, raising a gentle smile. “Anyway, I will handle this matter myself. I have already figured out how to solve it. So, please don’t say anything, don’t look for Fu Su, don’t do anything. Just stay by my side.” I had already come up with a plan. First, stabilize the short-circuited wolf, and then deal with everything. It’s been dark enough lately, I don’t want any more surprises.
His emerald eyes immediately lit up with excitement. “It’s great that you’re willing to let me stay by your side! I won’t take my eyes off you for a second!”
“Beds are off-limits!” I warned him seriously!
He blinked awkwardly, lowered his head again, and fell silent. He didn’t say anything or recite his classic line: “This is absolutely impossible.”
Now I realize that keeping him by my side is the safest option, not for my own safety, but for his. I can keep an eye on him to prevent him from doing anything strange and giving others the opportunity to blame me.
As I turned and looked at the Mission Bureau, since I was here, I wanted to ask about the final outcome of my commissioned mission. It was also not yet time for class.
I walked in and saw a pair of legs resting on the windowsill behind the desk. The person was wearing ancient boots.
“I wanted to ask…”
“Hey! The popular one has arrived!” He excitedly stood up and took a photo with his phone. “Click!” Then he looked at it and shook his head. “No smile, let’s cooperate, give me a smile.” With that, he raised his phone high again, and I grinned, putting on a zombie smile.
“Click!”
“I wanted to ask…”
“Stop!” He raised his hand, looking at his phone. “Let me post to my social media first. Not many people can ignite conversations in the Immortal Domain, you will definitely be the headline celebrity of the Immortal Domain this year. Let me tell you…” He turned his face, which looked like a Peking opera actor. “The prize money is not bad, you know~~~”
I heard the words “prize money” and my eyes lit up involuntarily, but then I quickly regained my composure. Money is important, but I can’t trample on my own dignity for it! Especially not for that scum, Fu Su!
After the divine official finished posting on his social media, he finally sat down and put on a fake smile.
You know the kind of smile I’m talking about, the one that makes you feel like you owe him a lifetime’s worth of debt. It’s a half-dead, half-ignoring expression.
“What’s the matter?” he asked lazily, dragging his voice like a eunuch. Just now he was energetic while posting on social media, but now he looked completely lifeless.
I leaned in closer. “I wanted to ask how things are with Ye Jiajia.”
“Oh… your commissioned mission… let me see…” He lazily flipped through his tablet and then raised an eyebrow. “If it weren’t for your uproar…”
“What do you mean by uproar? That was purely accidental!”
“Hmm?” he squinted one eye.
I immediately shut my mouth. It’s best for civilians not to argue with government officials, otherwise they’ll make you run, tire you out, and make you sick.
He looked at his tablet again. “If it wasn’t for the uproar, your mission would have been considered quite good.”
“Gu Mingde and Chen Jing have repented?” I was surprised because their crying and begging seemed to be a result of being scared by Ye Jiajia’s ghost, not genuine remorse. Genuine remorse shouldn’t be frightened out of someone.
“Yeah… it was after you told them about how Ye Jiajia sacrificed herself to protect their daughter. They sincerely apologized then.”
“Oh…” Warmth filled my heart all of a sudden. I no longer felt angry at Gu Mingde and Chen Jing. Sometimes, “I’m sorry” is more heartwarming than “I love you.”
“So, Ye Jiajia can be reincarnated now!” I was happy for her!
“Yeah, yeah…” The divine official shook his head. I looked at him in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
The divine official looked up at me, and his gaze suddenly became serious. “She voluntarily gave up the chance to be reincarnated to extend her mother’s life.”
I was stunned, but I felt happy for Ye Jiajia deep down. This means she has truly let go, let go of the hatred in her heart, let go of her feelings for Gu Mingde, and let go of all the regret in this lifetime, even though it was after her death.
“You can rest assured now,” the divine official once again became nonchalant, putting his feet back up on the table and starting to look at his tablet.
Ye Jiajia’s matter has finally been settled. I hope the next mission won’t involve Fu Su again.
On the way to school, I asked Mo Ming why the commissioned missions aren’t livestreamed on-site. He said it’s because commissioned missions have a certain level of privacy, so they aren’t live streamed. Instead, a supervisor is assigned to accompany us.
And my supervisor, unfortunately, is the despicable Fu Su.
When we arrived at school, Jiang Yan, Qing Ming, Xiao Nuo, and Mao Mao had already saved seats for us. It seemed like they were considering me and didn’t want me to attract too much attention, so they chose seats in the back.
There are two types of coveted seats in school, the front row and the back row. The front row is for the top students, and the back row is for… us, the underachievers…
The advantage of the back row is that you can sleep, read inappropriate books, text, play games…
I didn’t expect that it would be the same in the Academy. I always thought that the children of gods and demons were good students.
I lowered my head and hugged the wall as I made my way to the back row when suddenly, a dark figure appeared in front of me. It was Hei Mei, standing with her hands on her hips. I looked up at her and she raised an eyebrow at me. “Are you okay?”
I stood next to Mo Ming, and he looked at Hei Mei’s zombie. The zombie’s arms had already been reattached, and then it turned to us and said, “Uh…”
“Don’t worry, I know you were forcefully kissed by Fu Su.” Hei Mei reached out and patted my shoulder. I looked at her, moved by her gesture. Although she misunderstood the situation a bit, she was still much better than others!
“Hei Mei…”
Hei Mei looked disgusted. “Who doesn’t know about Fu Su’s personality? Only his brain cancer fans are infatuated with him. This incident will pass.”
“Yeah, yeah!”
I hugged Hei Mei, touched by her words. She lightly patted my back. “Let’s sit together.”
“Okay!” I pulled her towards the back row, and the zombie behind her hopped along, following us. Mo Ming frowned at him, and he looked at Mo Ming and then said, “Uh…”
Hei Mei and I sat together in the back row, and everyone looked at her. Hei Mei, as casual as ever, said, “Hey! I’m back again. This time, you can’t get rid of me even if you try.”
Everyone looked at Jiang Yan, who was holding a blood bag and seemed to be avoiding me, lost in thought. I didn’t look at him either. The more I thought about today’s events, the more embarrassing it became.
Hei Mei didn’t care about everyone’s reactions and started playing with her phone.
