HS Chapter 50

He Can Pay Me Instead

Before officially getting together with Yan Chen, Ye Wenyu never imagined there could be someone in the world so obsessed with kissing.

And Yan Chen had all kinds of illogical but legitimate reasons for it.

For example, they hadn’t seen each other for two hours and he missed him…so a kiss. Or, he was tired from training…so a kiss to recharge. Or, Wenyu had been good doing homework…so a kiss as a reward. Or, for no particular reason, he just felt like kissing his little boyfriend…

Sometimes he wouldn’t say anything at all, they’d just be walking along and suddenly he’d lift him up for a kiss, then let go. By the time Ye Wenyu reacted, only the lingering sensation on his face remained.

He even pulled him into a dizzying kiss three minutes before class ended, right in the first-floor lobby of the teaching building.

Three minutes later, the bell rang.

Yan Chen let go of him the second before the bell, and the next, students swarmed into the lobby from all directions.

Ye Wenyu had never done something so bold and out-there. The thrill was real, but so were the nervousness and guilt.

His palms went numb and his legs felt weak. He climbed the stairs in a fluster, not daring to look back, racking his brain to recall if there were any security cameras in the lobby.

Meanwhile, the culprit leisurely strolled behind him like a walk in the park.

Things got to a point where Ye Wenyu began to wonder which of the two of them had the lip-con problem.

In every intimate moment, Yan Chen always had absolute control, and Ye Wenyu was perpetually on the receiving end.

It’s not that it was a bad thing, he just liked him too much and even after so many times, he has never got used to it.

Having a lip-con toward someone you liked was basically icing on the cake…or a recipe for disaster. Whenever Yan Chen kissed him, his brain crashed instantly. He became soft to the bone and his soul was dragged along like he’d lost his armor and was completely at his mercy.

Whenever he replayed the moment in his head afterwards, he always regretted not taking the upper hand. His performance was really terrible.

Despite being together for so long and kissing countless times, the only time he could count as actually responding was that time in the swimming pool locker room, when the door suddenly opened and he bit Yan Chen out of shock.

And even then, he bit his tongue until it was numb.

This couldn’t go on. His lifelong habit of active learning meant he couldn’t just ignore a problem, he had to find a solution.

That day after class, he didn’t go looking for Yan Chen. Instead, he went straight back to the dorm and turned on his computer.

Yang Liang came back midway to grab his student ID and opened the door to see Ye Wenyu watching a drama with deep concentration.

“Hey, Wenyu.” Yang Liang greeted him while flipping through his stuff for his student ID. “No class this afternoon?”

Ye Wenyu: “Mm.”

Yang Liang: “Perfect, then after our training, let’s go out for dinner together? Old Dong said there’s a new Cinnamon Kitchen on the back street behind the South Gate. The tom yum soup is very good.”

Ye Wenyu: “Mm.”

“Alright, I’ll go tell the others later.”

Yang Liang grabbed his student ID and was about to leave. As he passed behind Ye Wenyu, he happened to catch a glimpse of the drama on the screen, where the male and female leads were kissing passionately by the seaside.

“This year’s final exams are being held earlier. I heard many majors are already done with classes. The rest won’t go past New Year’s Day at most.”

During a break in training, a few boys floated by the pool edge paddling lazily and chatting.

“Isn’t tomorrow New Year’s Day?”

“Really, so early? How much earlier are the exams then?”

“Just half a month. Classes ended early, and self-study time got extended.”

“Anyway, I just know the Water Supply and Auditing departments are done. A few of my friends have been staying up all night playing games lately.”

“Then I feel like the Foreign Languages department is wrapping up too,” Yang Liang said. “At least the French major is almost done.”

Dong Xi looked at him. “How do you know? Wenyu told you?”

Yang Liang waved his hand. “No. I figured it out myself. Wenyu’s been very free lately. When I went back just now, I even saw him seriously watching a prime-time idol drama.”

Yan Chen happened to walk past with a towel in hand. When he heard that, he raised an eyebrow, “Idol drama?”

Yang Liang: “Yeah, the kind where no one can talk properly and they have to push and pull and kiss back and forth. Even my mom wouldn’t watch that stuff. You have to be so bored to watch that.”

Yan Chen thought about it. He’d been training intensely lately and hadn’t had much time to accompany Ye Wenyu. If his boyfriend got so bored that he started watching brainless idol dramas, he probably needed some self-reflection.

With that in mind, he pulled out his phone and ordered a Switch. His boyfriend probably didn’t play many games, but this was perfect, he could personally teach him step by step.

Yang Liang mentioned that Ye Wenyu would be joining them for dinner that evening. After training, Yan Chen returned to the dorm to pick up Ye Wenyu, then met up with the group at the South Gate and headed out.

Any topic worked for dinner chat. By the time all the dishes were on the table, the group had moved on to discussing future plans after graduation.

“I haven’t thought about it. I’ll deal with it after I graduate.”

“I want to join a club, but I don’t know if I can.”

“My parents want me to go home. I’ll probably find a school in our county to be a PE teacher. Or maybe try the civil service exam like Old Dong.”

“I’ve got no hope with the provincial team, so I might just become a swim coach or gym instructor. What do you think?”

“It sounds good. You can talk people’s ears off every day, which is perfect for you!”

“By the way, Yan-ge, what about you? You’re not like us. You could join a professional team and bring glory to the nation with zero effort.”

The conversation shifted to Yan Chen, and even Ye Wenyu turned his head, curious about his answer.

But before Yan Chen could speak, someone else answered for him.

“Yan-ge will obviously go back and inherit the family business after graduation. Winning a couple awards just adds some sparkle to his life path. There’s no way he’s actually planning to rely on swimming to make a living. Come on.”

“Oh right, Yan-ge’s doing a double major in management too.”

“I’m jealous. Why didn’t my dad leave me a throne to inherit?”

“Would you even dare manage a company if he did?”

“Ah, well… probably not. I’ll just happily stick to gym training then, hahaha.”

Yan Chen filled Ye Wenyu’s empty soup bowl with more soup and didn’t refute the claims, which was basically a tacit agreement.

“What about Wenyu? I heard from my sister that it’s easy to find a job with a minor in foreign languages. Many companies are begging for them.”

Everyone at the table got their turn to be discussed, and of course Ye Wenyu wasn’t going to be left out.

Ye Wenyu thought for a moment. “Maybe I will take the postgraduate entrance examination, or maybe I will apply for a job in a foreign company. I haven’t decided yet.”

“If you pass, maybe you can stay and teach at the university? Being a teacher at our alma mater sounds quite good.”

“Why bother with a foreign company? Yan-ge’s family has such a huge group. They must have many international projects. It would be perfect if you just join Yan-ge’s company.”

“Exactly, Yan-ge. Come on, you’re classmates and dormmates. Won’t you offer a high salary?”

“I will.” Yan Chen chuckled. “I’ll even give him mine. He can pay me instead.”

Ye Wenyu’s eyelashes trembled. He gave a soft cough and quietly withdrew his hand from Yan Chen’s palm under the table, then lowered his head to sip his soup.

“Hahahahaha, as expected of Yan-ge!”

“We heard it, Wenyu. We’re all witnesses. There’s no backing out now or you’re not a brother.”

“What kind of group just hands out CEO salaries so casually? If it were me, I’d just take the cash and flee overnight!”

The group laughed brainlessly. Only Yang Liang, who considered himself rational, silently opened his mouth in shock, leaned toward Dong Xi and whispered, “Fuck! Yan-ge is pulling out all the stops chasing his man.”

Dong Xi: “?”

Dong Xi looked at him in confusion. “Chasing?”

Yang Liang answered matter-of-factly with a naive face: “Isn’t Yan-ge chasing Wenyu?”

Dong Xi: “…”

Dong Xi: “Eat your food. Your fried rice is getting cold.”

Just as they were about to head back after dinner, Yan Chen got a call and his destination changed from the dorm to his villa outside campus, and he dragged Ye Wenyu along.

Ye Wenyu asked him, “What’s the matter?”

The night wind was strong, and Yan Chen carefully helped pull his collar closer. “My uncle sent over a file but it can only be received on the home computer. He asked me to help convert it to a domestic format.”

Ye Wenyu nodded, and once Yan Chen lowered his arm, he took the initiative to slip his hand into his palm.

They strolled through the campus on their way back. When they reached the villa and opened the door, a wave of warm air hit their faces.

The air conditioner had been turned on via app before they arrived. The place was cozy and wearing jackets felt too hot, so Yan Chen took off his and Ye Wenyu’s jackets and hung them on the separate coat rack by the door.

Yan Chen took out the new pair of slippers he had specially bought for Ye Wenyu last time from the shoe cabinet and unwrapped them. They were white plush slippers shaped like rabbits, which looked very cute.

Ye Wenyu was wearing a loose white round-neck sweater, and with those fluffy rabbit slippers on his feet, Yan Chen’s heart just melted. He wanted to scoop the other party up in a bear hug, carry him on his back, and take him everywhere.

He looked up and was about to act on his thoughts when he saw his boyfriend staring at him with big, round eyes. The corners of Ye Wenyu’s eyes were drooped slightly, and he looked more like a puppy than a cat, one of those obedient pups asking their owner for a treat.

Yan Chen leaned down and gently bumped foreheads with the puppy. “What is it, guaiguai?”

**Guaiguai is a term of endearment, meaning “good boy/girl”.

“Aren’t you going to kiss me?” Ye Wenyu’s ears turned red right after he asked, and his neck followed suit.

He hadn’t meant to be so straightforward, but there was no helping it. He’d spent half the day trying to phrase it differently but still couldn’t come up with a better way to say it.

‘Hmm, unusual.’

A glimmer flashed in Yan Chen’s eyes. Then he bent down and gave Ye Wenyu a “very polite” peck on the lips before pulling back slightly to meet his gaze.

Ye Wenyu: “…”

He could manage a direct line like “aren’t you going to kiss me”, but something like “why don’t you give me a deep French kiss” was out of his range.

After a moment of silence, he mimicked Yan Chen and gave him a little peck too.

He had wanted to use body language to invite more, but it seemed Yan Chen didn’t get the message.

Ye Wenyu quickly ran through his mental notes, then reached up, tugged Yan Chen down by the neck, and kissed him again, this time forcefully prying open his lips to go deeper. While doing so, he silently recited the “Ode To Righteousness” in his mind to stay clear-headed and clumsily tried to find the right angle to hook Yan Chen’s tongue.

Unfortunately, he worked so hard for so long and still got no reaction.

His heart sank halfway. He pulled back, frowning slightly. “Was it not like that…?”

Yan Chen’s Adam’s apple moved. “Wenyu, where did you learn that?”

Ye Wenyu’s eyes drifted away. He pursed his lips and said nothing.

Yan Chen considered a possibility. “TV drama?”

Ye Wenyu’s eyes drifted even further.

He tried hard to come up with a very legitimate reason, but before he could explain it, his words were interrupted by a sudden kiss, and not just a kiss…his lip was bitten.

It stung just enough to surprise him, and he gasped softly.

“Why did you bite me?”

He was held in Yan Chen’s arms and heard a low chuckle rumble from his chest, but didn’t quite understand what was going on.

“Sorry, my boyfriend is too cute,” Yan Chen muttered into his shoulder. “If I didn’t bite you to balance it out, I might die from the cuteness.”
