Her Rose – Chapter 38

Everything Was Fine a Moment Ago

A tall, handsome male Alpha appeared in the dining room, carrying a suitcase and flashing a grin of white teeth. He raised a hand in greeting to the other two Alphas. “Good morning, you two. I’m Lang Wenxing. I look forward to working with you.”

His tone was filled with a matter-of-fact confidence, as if the moment he announced his name, the two people before him should gasp in amazement and immediately bow in admiration.

Unfortunately, the outcome was not what he expected.

One of these two was currently in a state of utter despair, as if her heart were dead ashes and she was ready to renounce the world. The other was looking at him with a very peculiar expression.

It was a mix of disdain, speechlessness, and disbelief.

Cheng Ying felt that her previous assessment of Zhang Zeyun might have been slightly off. At the very least, she now really wanted to rush back to Yunjing City, grab Qin Guanyu by the collar, and ask her just what she had done to this guy to make him torment her like this.

Not getting the reaction he wanted, Lang Wenxing wasn’t angry. After all, plenty of people liked him; he couldn’t care less about the opinions of these two Alphas.

He scanned his surroundings, a passable expression on his face, then looked at the two of them and asked the question he cared about, “Where’s Sister Jiang? Why isn’t she here for breakfast?”

A wooden-faced Xie Chengcheng subconsciously glanced at Cheng Ying, only to see her give a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Hanguang sprained her ankle yesterday and is still resting. Is there something you need her for?”

Xie Chengcheng’s emotional intelligence had grown by leaps and bounds since the blow she’d suffered last night. At this moment, she clearly heard two messages in that sentence.

1. Jiang Hanguang is resting, you’d better not disturb her. 2. If you have something to say, just say it here.

But it seemed there was destined to be someone with negative emotional intelligence on this little farm. Of Cheng Ying’s three sentences, Lang Wenxing only heard the very first part. He immediately knitted his two well-defined, thick eyebrows and said anxiously, “Ah, how did she sprain it? Is it serious? I’ll go see her.”

With that, he headed straight for Cheng Ying and Jiang Hanguang’s bedroom.

Cheng Ying: “…”

As expected, this guy really didn’t understand plain language.

She abandoned her half-eaten breakfast, got up, and followed him. If this moron was still the same as before and didn’t even know how to knock, she wouldn’t mind throwing him out right now.

Lang Wenxing didn’t give her the chance. The tall Alpha walked to the door and knocked twice, heavily. “Sister Jiang, it’s Wenxing. Can I come in and see you?”

Inside the room, Jiang Hanguang had long known of Lang Wenxing’s arrival thanks to Zhang Zeyun’s loudspeaker announcement.

She had a bit of a headache as well. Her impression of Lang Wenxing was tied to Hua Ran. Back on the set of 《White Robe》, it was precisely Lang Wenxing’s zealous attention that had led to Hua Ran’s senseless persecution. So, when she thought of him, Jiang Hanguang’s mind was filled with unpleasant memories.

But it wasn’t to the point where she disliked him enough to refuse to see him. After all, the one who had hurt her was Hua Ran; Lang Wenxing had always been trying to protect her.

Though it wasn’t very effective, and sometimes it was even counterproductive.

Jiang Hanguang composed herself, putting on a calm and distant expression.

“Please come in.”

Before the last syllable had completely faded, the door was pushed open with a bang by the impatient Alpha.

Jiang Hanguang couldn’t help but lean back as her hand was grabbed with an unyielding grip.

Lang Wenxing was like a big dog that hadn’t seen its owner in a long time, pouncing to Jiang Hanguang’s bedside. He spoke with a mix of anxiety and happiness, “Sister Jiang, I heard that person say you sprained your ankle. Is it serious? How are you now?”

“Yes, it’s nothing serious.” The moment her hand was grabbed, the scent of Lang Wenxing’s pheromones made Jiang Hanguang jolt. Her brows furrowed slightly, and she uncomfortably tried to pull her hand back, but failed.

“That’s good. I was so scared just now.” Lang Wenxing flashed a bright, sunny smile. If this smile appeared at one of his concerts, the fans’ screams alone could pierce the heavens.

But unfortunately, the sole audience member at this moment didn’t have the luxury of admiring his smile. Jiang Hanguang saw Cheng Ying walk in and saw those light blue eyes fall on their clasped hands.

The beautiful Alpha’s thick brows were knitted in a very displeased manner. Jiang Hanguang’s heart trembled. She applied force, almost roughly yanking her hand out of Lang Wenxing’s, and then gave him a polite smile. “I’m fine, thank you.”

“Why are you thanking me?” Lang Wenxing looked dissatisfied, then said with a hint of grievance, “《White Robe》 suddenly stopped filming, and you barely replied to my messages. Did you forget all about me?”

Jiang Hanguang: “…No, I was just busy with a lot of things during that time.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t reply, it was that she didn’t know how. Lang Wenxing had just turned twenty this year, his head full of conquering the world and the universe. Jiang Hanguang found it truly difficult to offer any in-depth commentary from an adult’s perspective on statements like, “One day, I will stand at the pinnacle of the world.”

“Mr. Lang, you’ve seen her now. Can you leave? Don’t disturb my artist’s rest.” Seeing Lang Wenxing about to open his mouth and spout more nonsense and Jiang Hanguang looking helpless but unable to directly kick him out, Cheng Ying decisively played her agent card to remind this guy not to push his luck.

In response, Lang Wenxing shot her a dissatisfied look. “I’m talking to Sister Jiang. What’s it to you?”

Cheng Ying froze for a moment, then let out a laugh of exasperation. She discovered that Zhang Zeyun had a real gift for finding idiots who would get on her nerves. If Cheng Liang had this level of skill, she might have been unable to resist doing away with him long ago. “I’m her agent. Don’t you know that a patient needs to rest quietly?”

Lang Wenxing didn’t yield an inch. “Resting quietly doesn’t mean she can’t see people. Besides, what’s so great about being an agent? You even have to manage a simple chat?”

Cheng Ying paused. For a moment, she really couldn’t think of a comeback.

That was right. An agent had no reason to interfere with normal interactions between artists. A girlfriend, on the other hand, would.

But Cheng Ying had no intention of backing down. She gave a cold smile and prepared to launch a personal attack.

Words like, You have so much to say now, so how come you just let Jiang Hanguang get bullied on set back then? were already on the tip of her tongue.

“I am a little tired. Mr. Lang, why don’t you go unpack first,” Jiang Hanguang interrupted.

The woman’s gaze flickered past Cheng Ying’s face.

“Sister Jiang, why do you still call me that? Just call me Wenxing,” Lang Wenxing squirmed in his seat, looking like he wouldn’t leave unless she did.

Jiang Hanguang could only say helplessly and stiffly, “I know… Wenxing.”

Having gotten what he wanted, Lang Wenxing reluctantly got up and walked toward the door. Cheng Ying followed behind him, deciding that if he dared to turn back, she would push him straight out.

“Xiao Ying.”

“Hm?” Cheng Ying turned half her face to look at Jiang Hanguang.

“Could you please help me take the tray back?” Jiang Hanguang pointed at the tray on the table.

“Okay.”

“I’ll do it…”

Before Lang Wenxing could finish his sentence, the Alpha behind him shoved him out the door with a very impolite amount of force. Bundled out along with him was the cameraman who had been filming.

“No one asked you. Why are you always so presumptuous?”

Cheng Ying slammed the door shut. Instead of getting the tray, she walked to the bedside. “You have something to say to me?”

From what she knew of Jiang Hanguang, unless she was bedridden, she wouldn’t have specifically asked for her help with such a small matter.

The woman didn’t reply, only scanned her face with a searching gaze, as if confirming something.

After a moment, she finally said, “You’re not angry, are you?”

Cheng Ying was baffled. “Why would I be angry?”

Jiang Hanguang’s gaze was serious. “Aren’t we supposed to be promoting our CP? In that case, I should keep my distance from others.”

Cheng Ying: “…So you made him leave just because we have to promote our CP?”

Not because you saw him talking back to me and wanted to stand up for me?

Cheng Ying’s face hardened.

Jiang Hanguang: “…”

Everything was fine a moment ago. Why was she suddenly angry?
