Cheng Ying’s heart trembled. Taking advantage of the faint moonlight filtering in through the window, she stood up and quickly fumbled her way to the bathroom door from memory, almost pushing it open directly.
As one of the bathroom’s users, she knew very well that the rickety lock was just for show; she probably wouldn’t even need to use her full strength to push it open.
But…
Jiang Hanguang’s conflicted face flashed before Cheng Ying’s eyes, and the hand that was about to push the bathroom door stopped abruptly.
She took two deep breaths to calm her anxious emotions before knocking on the door.
“Hanguang, do you need me to come in?”
A sound came from the bathroom, followed by Jiang Hanguang’s voice. “I’m fine… Just a moment.”
Hearing that the woman’s voice was as calm as usual and that she really didn’t sound like anything was wrong, Cheng Ying finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Mm, that’s good.”
Just then, there was a knock on the bedroom door, and a staff member’s voice came from outside. “Miss Cheng, Miss Jiang, are you two okay?”
Cheng Ying, who had just broken out in a cold sweat from the commotion in the bathroom, was very annoyed and replied sarcastically, “Almost broke my neck. What? Is this another one of the production team’s tests?”
“No, no, no,” the staff member hurriedly denied. “During the barbecue earlier, the person watching the power generator drank too much, came back, and threw up all over it… Now the entire crew only has two emergency power units left.”
“Tsk…” Cheng Ying felt disgusted just imagining the scene. “So when can it be fixed?”
“The director has already sent the maintenance team to look at it, but the earliest it can be fixed is tomorrow morning…” The staff member, likely embarrassed that such an accident had occurred during filming, spoke more and more quietly. “I’m truly very sorry. The director asked me to bring you an emergency lamp.”
Hearing his pitiful tone, Cheng Ying couldn’t bring herself to argue with this underling any further and just opened the door to take the emergency lamp.
The lamp was bright enough, even a little brighter than the bedroom’s original light. However, since it could only be placed on the low table, the light it cast was unavoidably a bit unsteady, making the already untidy bedroom look eerie and haunted.
Cheng Ying turned back to the bathroom and relayed the reason for the power outage. “They gave us a lamp. If you still want to wash up, I can pass it in to you.”
Jiang Hanguang was probably also disgusted by the bizarre reason for the power outage. After a moment, she replied, “No need, I’ve already gotten dressed.”
If she’s dressed, why isn’t she coming out?
Cheng Ying thought for a moment and understood. The bathroom was a true no-light zone; it was already quite an accomplishment for Jiang Hanguang to have managed to get dressed by feel.
“Then I’ll hold the light for you. You can come out.”
Cheng Ying walked over and slowly, gently pushed open the bathroom door.
Then she was nearly knocked over by the scent of roses wafting out from inside.
The scent was, of course, quite wonderful, but for Cheng Ying, who was currently trying hard to appear harmless so as not to destroy Jiang Hanguang’s sense of security, it was the most terrifying poison.
The poison traveled down her windpipe and into her body, and every one of her cells cried out in joyous celebration.
Her body, in turn, pressured her brain, forcing her to seek the source of the scent and then seize more of it.
Cheng Ying’s head instinctively craned forward. She took a deep, greedy breath, her throat bobbing.
But then, as if tearing out her own flesh, she squeezed her eyes shut, turned her head, and held her breath.
Cheng Ying had always been confident in her self-control. She felt that her ability to restrain herself from directly wringing the necks of those two guys, Cheng Bai and Cheng Liang, and then blowing up the Cheng’s building with a Blazing Crystal bomb, was the best proof of it.
But Jiang Hanguang always managed to prove how naive she was.
As it turned out, you could temporarily delay revenge against a dead person, but you couldn’t escape the desire for someone you coveted.
For some reason, Cheng Ying felt she was being more and more deeply affected by Jiang Hanguang’s pheromones. Normally, she could easily suppress the thoughts of touching Jiang Hanguang, but now, she had to use almost all her mental energy to restrain herself just to avoid doing something improper.
Jiang Hanguang saw the bathroom door being pushed open and bright light shining in, but the person holding it stopped there, motionless.
Puzzled, she followed the light source to the bathroom doorway, only to see Cheng Ying standing there ramrod straight, her arm extended stiffly, looking just like a human candlestick.
Jiang Hanguang laughed out loud on the spot, but at the same time, she felt a faint sweetness in her heart.
Cheng Ying was very seriously upholding their agreement. Cheng Ying… had taken her words to heart.
Hearing the woman’s soft laughter, Cheng Ying slightly opened her eyes to see a damp Miss Jiang standing before her.
It was a wonder she had managed to get dressed so neatly in the pitch-black bathroom; her buttons were done up to the very top one. It was just that she probably hadn’t had time to dry her hair properly, as it looked a bit damp.
The longer Cheng Ying looked, the thirstier she became.
With a faint smile on her face, the woman walked up, took the lamp from her hand, and moved closer to her.
“I thought you would come into the bathroom.”
Cheng Ying smelled the scent of roses mixed with faint water vapor on the woman’s body. Under the white glow of the lamp, Jiang Hanguang’s face appeared a vivid white.
If I licked her, I wonder if she would taste like milk.
If you’re so afraid of Alphas, then don’t get so close.
Cheng Ying grumbled inwardly, her body tensing even more, but she still forced a calm tone. “I was afraid you’d be scared.”
She didn’t dare to look at Jiang Hanguang, and therefore didn’t notice the woman’s face instantly turning red.
Cheng Ying’s words reminded Jiang Hanguang, and she realized her current behavior was a bit like “playing hard to get.” Miss Jiang, who was easily embarrassed to begin with, immediately took two steps back and casually replied, “Mm, thank you.”
She practically fled to dry her hair.
She was getting stranger and stranger. When Cheng Ying got close, her heart pounded, but when she just stood there so obediently, she wanted to go and tease her a little.
As Jiang Hanguang dried her hair, the heat on her face refused to dissipate, yet the corners of her mouth curved upward.
Perhaps it was because Cheng Ying’s expression was too cute, or perhaps it was because she believed that no matter what, Cheng Ying would not hurt her.
Boss Cheng, who had practically been teased, wasn’t able to tease back in time due to her own guilty conscience. Instead, she took the lamp and went to take a shower.
Since the generator wasn’t supplying power, the water heater had also stopped working. She didn’t dare to shower for too long. When she came out, Jiang Hanguang was still air-drying her hair.
Cheng Ying’s hair was much shorter than Jiang Hanguang’s, so they got into their beds at around the same time.
The emergency lamp was on the low cabinet between the two beds. Cheng Ying turned her head and, not surprisingly, saw that Jiang Hanguang was also looking at her.
The woman’s eyes were sparkling, and she looked both sweet and beautiful.
Struck by her cuteness, Cheng Ying involuntarily squeezed out, “Good night.”
Jiang Hanguang smiled slightly. “Good night.”
She reached out and turned off the lamp.
That smile kept Cheng Ying awake for a long time. When she finally felt sleepy, she found the room had become too hot to sleep in at all.
With the power out, the air conditioner naturally wasn’t working either. The slight breeze blowing in from the window was woefully inadequate.
Cheng Ying lay still like a corpse for a while, then began to toss and turn in bed.
The more she tossed, the hotter she got, and the hotter she got, the harder it was to sleep.
Just as she was getting extremely frustrated, she heard Jiang Hanguang’s sleepy question from the next bed.
“Xiao Ying?”
In the middle of turning over, she froze on the spot.
But the person she had woken up was clearly not going to be so easily fooled.
Jiang Hanguang asked again, “Can’t you sleep?”
Cheng Ying didn’t have the heart to ignore her, so she could only answer, “It’s a little hot. Did I wake you?”
“It’s okay.” Jiang Hanguang showed no sign of grumpiness from being woken up. She sat up and turned on the lamp.
Cheng Ying watched as Jiang Hanguang put on her slippers, walked to the cabinet, and rummaged for something. Finally, she couldn’t resist asking.
“What are you doing?”
But she saw Jiang Hanguang pull out a large cattail leaf fan from somewhere, move a small stool to her bedside, and then turn off the lamp.
A cool breeze wafted over her face, carrying away the tormenting heat. The Omega’s voice was soft and gentle, as if coaxing her to sleep. “Go to sleep. It won’t feel so hot once you’re asleep.”
Cheng Ying: “…”
She really didn’t know what to make of Miss Jiang’s behavior of doting on her—an Alpha who was half a head taller—as if she were a child. But her body had already acted, and she grabbed the woman’s slender wrist.
“You go to sleep. I’m fine. It’ll cool down in a bit.”
She saw Jiang Hanguang’s silhouette, illuminated by the moonlight, shake her head. The woman took her hand, placed it back on the bed, and continued fanning.
Cheng Ying said helplessly, “How could I possibly fall asleep with you like this?”
Her sitting there while I sleep… I’m not a three-year-old child.
“It’s alright,” Jiang Hanguang comforted her. “I slept for a while just now, so I’m not very sleepy.”
What nonsense, Cheng Ying thought. If I hadn’t woken you up, you could have slept until dawn.
Cheng Ying thought to herself and suddenly came up with an idea.
She adopted an almost unreasonable tone. “I can’t sleep with you sitting in front of me. You can either go back to your own bed, or lie down and fan.”
As she spoke, she cleared a large space beside her, looking at Jiang Hanguang in the darkness with a smug expression, fully expecting that this time, Jiang Hanguang would definitely go back to her own bed.
She can’t even handle a kiss. Surely she wouldn’t lie down next to me.
Jiang Hanguang’s figure paused for a moment, then she stood up.
She’s going back.
Satisfied, Cheng Ying turned back around, resolving that even if she died from the heat, she would absolutely not toss and turn again.
The mattress beside her suddenly dipped.
Cheng Ying: “?”
With difficulty, she turned her stiff neck and saw, right there, close enough to touch, Jiang Hanguang’s beautiful profile.
The woman was lying in the space she had cleared, gently fanning.
A warm body, alluring pheromones, close enough to touch, within easy reach.
Alarms blared in Cheng Ying’s mind, but her body remained frozen, and she was unable to say a word.
Yet the very person who had set off the alarms was fanning away nonchalantly, looking completely at ease.
Seemingly noticing her gaze, the woman turned on her side, placed a hand on her shoulder, and began to pat it rhythmically.
“Hurry up and sleep. Aren’t you sleepy?”
Sleep? My ass.
