Her Rose – Chapter 56

Sleeping Together

Cheng Ying noticed the hand gripping hers was growing weaker. Her heartache for Jiang Hanguang finally overcame her aggressive desire. She propped herself up slightly, released the woman’s lips, and transformed her unexpressed affection into a series of soft kisses on the woman’s cheeks.

The moment she was released, the woman beneath her let out a moan of relief, then began to pant rapidly, like an exhausted little kitten.

Her warm breaths brushed against Cheng Ying’s face. If Boss Cheng’s conscience hadn’t prevailed, she probably would have kissed her again right then and there.

Cheng Ying lovingly caressed Jiang Hanguang’s crimson, moist lips. The woman’s eyes were tinged with a beautiful red from the kissing, and her previously smooth pajamas were now wrinkled from their contact. She was staring blankly at Cheng Ying, looking completely dazed from the kiss.

Sensing her stillness, the woman blinked, and two tears slid down from the corners of her eyes.

Cheng Ying was both heartbroken and amused. She gently wiped away the tears from her face, stroking her cheek as she teased, “Why do you always end up crying every time we kiss?”

Jiang Hanguang, having recovered a little, weakly retorted, “I’m not used to it…”

Before the words were even out of her mouth, she saw Cheng Ying looking at her with a teasing expression. Having spent the last few days together, Jiang Hanguang immediately guessed what she was going to say next.

If you’re not used to it, you just have to practice more.

She gave Cheng Ying a light push before she could speak. “I’m sleepy…”

The omega beneath her looked at her pitifully, as if terrified she wouldn’t let her go.

Cheng Ying’s heart melted at her gaze, and she couldn’t help but sit up, getting off her.

Jiang Hanguang immediately scrambled off the sofa like a cat that had finally escaped the clutches of a cat-huffing addict, stopping only when she reached her bedroom door.

She turned back to smile at Cheng Ying, leaving behind a light, airy, “Good night.”

Then she quickly shut the bedroom door.

Cheng Ying: “…”

Why did she feel like she’d just fallen for a honey trap?

She shook her head helplessly. All she could do was finish the movie all by her lonesome and go back to her room to sleep.

Both surprisingly and unsurprisingly, she had insomnia again.

After a full day of packing and traveling, Cheng Ying was actually very tired. Plus, she was back in her own bedroom, which was completely soundproof and had every index perfectly calibrated for human sleep standards. She had thought she would be able to get a good night’s rest.

But even after tossing and turning until the blanket was a tangled mess, she still couldn’t fall asleep.

“Sigh.” After lying on her back once again, Cheng Ying sighed.

She remembered why she couldn’t sleep. It was because Jiang Hanguang wasn’t here.

During their days at Little Little Farm, she had grown accustomed to the presence of another person beside her.

But now, this residence, which had once felt incredibly safe in its silence and darkness, only made her feel cold and lonely.

She suddenly understood why a normal person could never sleep peacefully in a house like this.

They had people willing to lean against the headboard with them and talk about the interesting things that happened that day. They had people to hold as they fell asleep.

She had that now, too, but that person had been… kissed away by her.

Cheng Ying hesitated for a moment, feeling that going to bother Jiang Hanguang now would seem a bit like she had ulterior motives, a hint of indecent haste.

So she hugged her blanket again, determined to try one more time. She would start by trying to count a thousand sheep.

“One, two, three…”

When she reached the 100th sheep, Cheng Ying threw the blanket from her arms, turned on the room’s lights, and rolled out of bed.

This blanket is hard as a rock, how could anyone possibly sleep?

The top-grade silk blanket, roughly tossed aside, only wished it had a mouth, or else it would have definitely given its unreasonable owner a piece of its mind.

Cheng Ying rang Jiang Hanguang’s doorbell with righteous indignation. After a moment, the door opened from the inside.

“Xiao Ying?”

Jiang Hanguang looked at her with sleepy eyes, her expression a little dazed. It seemed her sleep quality was much better than her own.

Cheng Ying instantly felt even more wronged. She took Jiang Hanguang’s hand, fiddling with the woman’s slender fingers, and said sullenly, “I can’t sleep.”

Jiang Hanguang struggled to get her not-yet-fully-awake brain to understand the hidden meaning in her words. “Then…”

Before she could figure anything out, the alpha leaned down and hugged her.

The other woman mumbled in her ear like a wronged child, “Sleep with me.”

Jiang Hanguang was once again both amused and heartbroken. “You woke me up in the middle of the night just for this?”

Hearing that she didn’t agree immediately, Cheng Ying became even more unhappy. “If I don’t sleep well, I can’t work properly tomorrow. If I don’t work properly, I can’t pick a good script for you. This is official business…”

Jiang Hanguang really hadn’t expected the other woman to come up with such a high-sounding reason for wanting someone to sleep with her. She hadn’t planned on refusing anyway, but now she was at a loss for whether to laugh or cry. She could only pat the alpha’s shoulder. “Alright, alright, I know. It’s all for my sake. Let’s go.”

She closed her bedroom door and was about to go to the master bedroom with Cheng Ying when her body suddenly felt light. Cheng Ying had scooped her up, one arm under her thighs.

Jiang Hanguang, who was just over 1.7 meters tall, was held like a child, making her feel instantly unsteady. She frantically wrapped her arms around the alpha’s shoulders for support, barely managing to stabilize herself.

“What are you doing?” She was startled, and most of her sleepiness vanished. She pinched the alpha’s cheek reproachfully.

“Carrying you to bed,” Cheng Ying said as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Relying on the fact that the woman was now holding onto her, she supported her and strode towards her own bedroom.

Jiang Hanguang was worried that struggling would strain Cheng Ying’s arms, but also worried about falling, so she could only tighten her grip around Cheng Ying’s neck and shoulders, letting the other woman carry her to the bedroom.

Only now did she truly appreciate how strong Cheng Ying was. Although she was far from fat, her height meant she wasn’t light, especially since she exercised regularly.

But Cheng Ying had easily lifted her with just one arm, holding her steadily all the way to the bedside before gently setting her down, showing no signs of exhaustion.

The master bedroom’s decor was as unremarkable as the guest room’s, with no extra decorations besides the necessary furniture. However, it was much larger than the guest room, especially Cheng Ying’s bed, which was twice as large as the one in the guest room. If one were so inclined, they could probably do a street dance routine on it.

But at this moment, the large, soft bed was covered in wrinkles from someone tossing and turning, and the blanket had been pitifully tossed aside nearby.

Just by looking, Jiang Hanguang could imagine what an infuriating bout of insomnia the alpha had endured.

Before she could get a closer look, the room plunged into darkness at Cheng Ying’s command.

Jiang Hanguang felt Cheng Ying’s warm body draw near, enveloping her completely like a warm blanket.

The alpha’s body wasn’t exactly soft, but it was hot and firm. In this pitch-black space, it gave one an indescribable sense of security.

Deprived of her sight by the darkness and enveloped by the alpha’s scent, Jiang Hanguang felt a sudden, inexplicable nervousness.

That was the downside of being held so tightly; even the slightest tensing of her body would be noticed by the other person.

The alpha’s fluffy head nuzzled against her neck and shoulder, and a hand comfortingly rubbed the nape of her neck.

Jiang Hanguang shivered, but then she heard Cheng Ying’s sleepy voice.

“Don’t be afraid. Go to sleep. Good night.”

Cheng Ying was truly exhausted. Now, buried in Jiang Hanguang’s fragrant, soft embrace, sleepiness washed over her like an unstoppable tsunami.

This time, she truly fell asleep without a second thought.

Listening to the even, deep breaths of the person beside her, Jiang Hanguang felt a pang of heartache.

She was clearly so sleepy, so why couldn’t she fall asleep?

She remembered her first night here, the image of Cheng Ying sitting alone on the sofa, drinking.

If it were just simple insomnia, it would never drive a person to ignore the wound in their mouth and drink such strong liquor.

Jiang Hanguang gently stroked the hair of the person in her arms, feeling for the first time that she knew too little about Cheng Ying.

There were many rumors about Cheng Ying out there, enough to piece together the alpha’s life story.

But for some reason, Jiang Hanguang always felt that the Cheng Ying from the rumors was very different from the Cheng Ying she knew.

Although her Cheng Ying also liked to tease, enjoyed drinking, and was occasionally improper, there were moments when the sensitive Jiang Hanguang would feel a sudden shift in the other woman’s aura.

It was like a calm, gentle sea suddenly being struck by a storm, and a man-eating leviathan from the depths rising to the surface amidst the churning, roaring waters.

It didn’t do anything, just quietly watched everything. Once its master calmed down, it would silently sink back to the bottom of the sea and continue to lie dormant.

Jiang Hanguang had once feared Cheng Ying because of this feeling, but now, all that remained was heartache.

What have you been through to have a side like that?

She pondered this unsolvable question until sleepiness consumed her.

The day after filming for Little Little Farm wrapped up, Qin Guanyu secretly arrived alone in front of a villa in the new district.

She hesitated, her hand on the doorknob, unsure if she should push the door open. Cheng Ying had called her yesterday and abruptly told her to come to this place at ten o’clock today, without explaining why.

Although Qin Guanyu didn’t think Cheng Ying was crazy enough to kill her to silence her, the caution honed by years in business still made her suspicious of this nonsensical command.

She wanted to ask Cheng Ying more, but their communication had always been one-way. The other woman would give her an order and then hang up, giving her no opportunity to ask questions.

Since she was already here, she couldn’t just stand around. Qin Guanyu finally turned the doorknob.

“Fingerprint correct. Unlocking successful.” The heavy main door slowly opened. Qin Guanyu stood at the entrance and looked around, discovering that the interior decor was normal—the kind of normal that looked very expensive.

She walked in slowly, and the main door closed behind her.

Passing through the entryway, she walked into the living room and was surprised to find someone sitting on the sofa.

The person was wearing a simple white long dress, with a cup of steaming coffee on the table in front of her.

She had a pair of round, bright eyes that always sparkled with a cunning light.

Qin Guanyu felt the blood in her entire body run cold.

Never mind the face that often appeared in her dreams; just the red wine-scented pheromones that had mingled with hers countless times before were enough to make her freeze up and turn to flee.

The impeccably dressed President Qin dashed to the door at the speed of a hundred-meter sprint, fumbling twice before she managed to grab the doorknob.

But the door, which had been so obedient just moments ago, had now become a wall with a handle. No matter how she pushed or pulled, it wouldn’t budge an inch.

Her phone chimed with a new message. As if remembering something, Qin Guanyu hurriedly took it out to look.

“I was a bit curious why that person in the villa was always causing trouble for me, so I looked into her past. You’re really something, aren’t you? A scumbag, plain and simple. It’s true that those who achieve great things must sever their emotions, but you’re just someone who works for me, so your level of enlightenment doesn’t need to be that high. She still pines for you and can’t forget your past love, so you should show some kind of response, right? Whether you two make up or continue to be at odds, don’t mention me to her. She has evidence of us meeting, but it’s irrelevant. I can photoshop eight hundred pictures like that in an hour. So I suggest you don’t have any psychological burden and just happily enjoy these three days. P.S. All the exits in this house are now locked. They will unlock automatically in three days. There’s food and wine, so help yourselves. Wishing you a rekindled romance?”

The message had no signature and self-destructed the moment Qin Guanyu finished reading it. It was self-evident who had sent it.

Qin Guanyu felt like killing Cheng Ying, but her hands still refused to give up, pulling at the doorknob in a futile struggle.

The sound of a woman’s footsteps came from behind her, unhurried, as if she knew there was no escape.

“Sister, where are you planning to go now?”

Zhang Zeyun’s voice, which usually carried a hint of a smile, sounded very calm at this moment.

But Qin Guanyu knew her all too well. Usually, when Zhang Zeyun spoke like this, it meant she was furious to the extreme.

If she couldn’t be coaxed, she would immediately get a vicious bite.

But this time, Qin Guanyu knew she couldn’t possibly coax her, no matter what. So she could only brace herself and turn around, pressing herself tightly against the solid door to try and appear less guilty.

“L-long time no see, Ze-Zeyun.”
