The withered corpse crawled along the wall of Huang Sansheng’s house, scanning the room but finding no one hiding outside. After quickly traversing the entire outer area, her murky eyes fixed on the half-closed door of the inner room.
With sharp nails, she gently pushed the door open.
The air was thick with the scent of living humans, yet no one was visible.
The corpse was not in a hurry; she crawled into the room leisurely, even knowing to close the door behind her.
“Are you here…” The woman’s voice was haunting.
Under the bed, Huang Sansheng tightly wrapped himself in his small blanket, trying to make himself smaller. To be honest, it was a bit difficult; the space under the bed was cramped for him, and he had to breathe in deeply to ensure his belly wouldn’t get stuck against the bed board.
He heard someone enter but never saw any feet walking on the floor; the experience felt almost ghostly.
As the sound drew closer, Huang Sansheng suddenly realized that it sounded like someone was banging their hand against the wall— that thing was on the wall!
At that moment, the corpse had already entered the center of the room, hanging upside down on the wall, and suddenly flung open the wardrobe.
A heap of disorganized clothes burst forth, a chaotic mix of shirts, pants, underwear tangled with socks, and even plastic bags and drink bottles, all embodying a disheveled lifestyle.
With such a full appearance, how could a person possibly fit in there?
The corpse on the wall continued to scan the room. Although it was messy, there were only so many places to hide. If not in the wardrobe, then it must be—
Her gaze landed on the only bed in the room.
Huang Sansheng closed his eyes, praying that the entity was too dim-witted to see him, or that Brother Lu would miraculously return and eliminate this thing.
He didn’t know how long had passed, but the room fell silent.
Could it be that the thing didn’t find him and left? Huang Sansheng felt a surge of joy and planned to open his eyes to take a look.
Suddenly, he realized something was off.
Wasn’t his door closed? If that thing had left, there should have been a sound of the door opening…
It was still in the room.
“I’ve—found—you—” The woman’s voice echoed in his ear, cold and reeking of decay.
Huang Sansheng was startled by the voice, jolting awake and unable to suppress his eyes from opening.
“Ghost—” Huang Sansheng screamed, his voice booming over the woman’s eerie whisper.
The scene he feared most had appeared—face to face!!! My God!!!
While screaming, he tried to move his body away from the corpse, but in his panic, his proud belly wouldn’t budge, firmly trapping him under the bed.
Huang Sansheng watched as the “female ghost” reached out with her terrifying ghostly claws towards him.
It’s over, it’s over, it’s over, I’m going to die.
He didn’t wait for Brother Lu to come home, and after all the trouble he had been through these days, he still didn’t know what that supernatural ability was, nor did he want to die after eating so many of Brother Lu’s special cursed noodles. His life could only be described with one word: tragic.
Why was he such a useless person?
He also wanted to suddenly transform into a great hero and save others!
“Wooah—” Huang Sansheng began to cry, waving his hands wildly at the “female ghost,” trying to make a final struggle.
Perhaps he couldn’t withstand a single claw from the female ghost, but he didn’t want to die, especially not in such a pathetic manner. Brother Lu had put so much effort into saving him; if he came back to find his corpse, he would be heartbroken, right?
The anticipated pain never came.
As his rationality returned slightly, Huang Sansheng looked towards the position of the “female ghost” and was surprised to find that there was no one there.
However, it seemed like something had increased in his hand?
Looking down, Huang Sansheng let out another scream: “Ghost!!!!”
A miniature version of the “female ghost” was being pinched in his palm, gnawing at his hand, but Huang Sansheng’s tough skin felt no pain at all.
Huang Sansheng was both frightened and curious; he moved his hand away while unable to stop examining it.
After several back-and-forths, he confirmed that he had awakened his ability.
But it wasn’t the cool ability he had imagined; the color of the star pattern was not as dazzling as Xiao Lu’s, just a light khaki that could easily be overlooked if not looked at closely.
Huang Sansheng took a deep breath, clutching the “female ghost” tightly as he struggled to crawl out from under the bed. He didn’t want to be holding a ghost, but he didn’t know what to do with it, so he could only wait for Brother Lu to return.
He wondered if Brother Lu had encountered some danger; why hadn’t he come back yet even though it was dark?
Just as he thought of this, footsteps sounded at the door.
Huang Sansheng looked up joyfully: “Lu—”
The voice caught in his throat; the person who entered was not Xiao Lu, but three strange men. The one leading them was dressed in leather, with multiple piercings in a punk style, while the other two looked very much like the “female ghost” in his hand.
The punk guy leaned against the door, playing with his rings: “You’ve taken my lead singer; can you let her go?”
“Lead singer…” Huang Sansheng looked at the snarling “female ghost” in his hand. What kind of lead singer was this?
The punk guy smiled: “Her voice is beautiful, ethereal and pure, with a natural reverb. It would be a shame not to have her as a lead singer, right?”
“But your lead singer… seems to want to eat people…” Huang Sansheng felt uneasy, not daring to let go.
“She is our most important lead singer; what’s wrong with eating a person?” The punk guy’s smile faded.
His gaze sharpened as he stared at Huang Sansheng: “A dead fatso like you will never make it to the stage. Being eaten by her would make you a part of her; your mediocre life would at least have some value.”
Huang Sansheng sensed the malice in the other’s tone and took a step back.
There were two “ghosts,” but he only had one free hand left.
The punk guy’s star pattern glowed, and he clapped his hands twice. The two “ghosts” beside him simultaneously lunged at Huang Sansheng.
The “female ghost” in his palm became even more agitated, biting at him.
“Hiss—” Huang Sansheng felt a bite break the skin, almost dropping the “female ghost,” but thinking that if he let go, it might turn into a three-on-one situation, he gritted his teeth and held on.
“Go on, eat him. We don’t need another ability user on our turf.” The punk guy’s tone was cold.
The two “ghosts,” one tall and one short, charged at Huang Sansheng. The shorter one was incredibly fast, reaching him in an instant. He didn’t have sharp nails but had muscular arms, perhaps he was an athlete in life.
And Huang Sansheng was just a couch potato who loved chips and binge-watching shows. Before he could control his muscles to throw a punch, the short “ghost” had already firmly grabbed his arm and twisted it painfully.
Huang Sansheng immediately felt cold sweat on his forehead; his entire arm went numb, and he couldn’t exert any strength. The “female ghost” fell from his hand to the ground.
As soon as the “female ghost” hit the ground, she returned to her previous form.
She let out a sharp scream, angrily lunging at Huang Sansheng, her nails scratching the floor and leaving deep marks.
In front of him, the “tall ghost” had also reached Huang Sansheng’s opposite side, baring its sharp teeth, ready to bite down.
This time it was really over, Huang Sansheng thought in despair.
“Thud—”
Three heavy thuds hit the ground almost simultaneously.
Huang Sansheng felt a flash of light before his eyes; the massive mouth that had almost filled his vision was gone, the crushing grip on his wrist disappeared, and the long nails that had almost poked his neck were nowhere to be seen.
Although he couldn’t see anyone, Huang Sansheng was already grinning like a child who had just received a big red envelope for the New Year: “Brother Lu!!!”
The punk guy had no idea what had happened, but seeing the dead fatso’s happy expression, he knew it must be something unfavorable for him.
Following Huang Sansheng’s gaze, the punk guy immediately turned to look behind him.
“Don’t move.” A hand quietly gripped his neck, the sleeve stained with a hint of chill from rushing through the cool night.
Breathing heavily, the person behind seemed to be in a hurry.
Huang Sansheng saw a figure standing in the moonlight behind the punk guy, the cold white light outlining his tall silhouette.
In that moment, he couldn’t help but give a thumbs up: My Brother Lu is so cool again!
Xiao Lu locked the punk guy’s neck, a faint glow flickering in his palm: “I just killed an ability user; I wouldn’t mind taking another one.”
The two were close enough that the punk guy could clearly smell the rich scent of blood that lingered on Xiao Lu, and even though he couldn’t see it, he could feel the icy gaze piercing through him.
This person was not lying; he was genuinely considering whether to kill him.
A drop of cold sweat trickled down the punk guy’s forehead.
Xiao Lu spoke in a calm tone: “You just said you were in a band?”
“Yes…”
“The most important thing for a team is to be together. They’ve all left; you must be feeling lonely, right?”
“No, no, not at all!!” The punk guy, driven by his survival instinct, immediately denied it, “We’re not familiar at all! I just suddenly discovered I could control these things, so I wanted to learn from others and take a piece of turf to play with.”
“Big brother, if I knew this dead fat… fat guy was under your protection, I definitely wouldn’t dare to cause trouble here.”
The punk guy was regretting it immensely; some soft persimmons in this world were not to be squeezed. Who knew what fierce gods were connected behind this? This person had resolved all three of his “teammates” in less than a second; crushing him would be like squashing an ant.
“Big brother, I promise I won’t show up here again from now on. Look at me, I’m just a clueless, weak little chicken; I won’t bother your eyes, right?”
Saying the most cowardly words in the most punk style, this was the wisdom of the new generation of rockers.
Xiao Lu looked at Huang Sansheng: “How do you want to deal with him?”
Huang Sansheng was initially very angry, but now he felt quite pleased. However, when asked how to deal with him, he hesitated for a moment.
The punk guy, being the adaptable new-age rock youth, immediately said: “I have stockpiled a batch of supplies nearby, with water, food, and plenty of clean clothes. The place is bigger than where you’re living now. Since I have the fortune to meet you two brothers today, I’ll give it to you as a gesture of friendship!”
“The keys are in my left pocket.” He said this with his heart bleeding.
He had put in a lot of effort, hoping to redeem his life.
Huang Sansheng’s eyes lit up instantly.
Water and food! With food, he wouldn’t have to endure Brother Lu’s indescribable cursed cooking anymore!
Seeing this, Xiao Lu maintained his grip, signaling Huang Sansheng to come over and grab the keys.
After checking that the supplies were fine, the two released the punk guy.
This guy kept his word, immediately leaving in an orderly manner, even cleaning up his three “teammates” without any unnecessary actions, making it impossible to find fault if someone wanted to silence him.
Once they confirmed that the punk guy had completely left the slums, Huang Sansheng was assigned by Xiao Lu to count the supplies.
He looked at the now much tidier room and the neatly stacked supplies, unable to help but exclaim: “What a rich harvest; I almost want to go rob someone.”
At that moment, Xiao Lu, who had said he needed to go back to get something, returned.
“Ah Huang, I have another harvest I want to introduce to you.” Xiao Lu set down his bag, pointing at the person he had brought back and placed on the sofa, “Limited edition merchandise from ‘Double-Sided Mirror.'”
The person looked at Huang Sansheng.
Huang Sansheng looked at the person.
Three seconds later, Huang Sansheng gasped: “Ye Qi!!!”
I have to say, my Brother Lu is really impressive; he just watched the show last night and managed to snatch the main character tonight.
