ICAWZ Chapter 147

ARC 4: Meeting

Since coming to the Zerg Race, Ah Sui felt that some of his good qualities, such as kindness, tolerance, and magnanimity, even his soul, were beginning to be destroyed.

Forty undercover agents! Forty undercover agents! From beginning to end, he was the only one kept in the dark!

That night, when it was time to sleep, Ah Sui was so angry that he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Xu Cenfeng heard the creaking of the bedframe and quietly opened his eyes in the dark. “Ah Sui, stop moving around and sleep properly.”

Ah Sui regretted it so much that he felt his insides turning cold. He lowered his voice and said to Xu Cenfeng, “We should’ve run north today. If we had gone north, we wouldn’t have been caught.”

Xu Cenfeng thought to himself, How foolish. If we hadn’t run west, how would you have encountered Blairand? He turned over in the dark and looked at Ah Sui, his expression calm as he said, “Actually, the northern forest exit also has pursuers. No matter which direction we run, we’ll still be caught.”

The difference is that the west is where the main army is, under the command of General Aks, and it’s closer to Blairand. On the other hand, the northern forest exit is under the control of the northern leader, Faeus, and those captured by the interstellar pirates are directly sent to Blackstone Prison.

In his past life, Xu Cenfeng and Ah Sui had been accidentally separated in the midst of war, and neither of them had the company of Quike and the others. By a twist of fate, Ah Sui ran toward the west, while Xu Cenfeng ended up in the north. One could only say it was all destined.

Xu Cenfeng should have gone north with the other fleeing interstellar pirates the previous night, but he was worried that Ah Sui might take the wrong path and miss the person he was destined to meet. Hesitating for a moment, he decided to stay in the forest.

As it turned out, his decision was the right one, because Quake and the others would indeed take Ah Sui north.

Ah Sui thought to himself, the west is already guarded by troops, not to mention the north. The cold night was silent, and he hugged the blanket tightly, once again feeling the long-lost loneliness. Just when Xu Cenfeng thought he would say, “I’m afraid of the dark,” Ah Sui remained silent for a long time, only to finally speak a single sentence:

“Brother Cenfeng, it’s getting late. Let’s sleep.”

Some people’s growth takes twenty years, a lifetime, while others grow in just one night. Ah Sui’s character is too pure, and his luck has been too good; he has never encountered any bad people from childhood to now. The events that have happened recently have undoubtedly dealt him quite a blow.

But Xu Cenfeng didn’t think it was a bad thing, because he could never follow Ah Sui for a lifetime.

This kind of benevolent blow was just the right degree—not too deep, nor too shallow. It could teach Ah Sui that one must always be cautious of others, while still preserving his original pure and sincere heart.

It was rare.

Because setbacks cannot be controlled in terms of intensity. Some lessons are too shallow, leaving people unaffected, causing them to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Others are too deep, leaving a person shattered after just one experience, their bones broken and their spirit crushed, unable to stand again for the rest of their life.

In a daze, Xu Cenfeng seemed to sigh, his voice barely audible as he said:

“Ah Sui, we’ve already left home far, far behind. One day, you’ll understand that this world isn’t what you think it is…”

Hearing this, Ah Sui quietly opened his eyes in the dark, but soon closed them again, saying nothing.

At that moment, he suddenly longed for a warm embrace, like a little dog missing its soft nest, where even in the dark, there was no fear. As long as it curled up, it could find shelter and a sense of security.

The night quietly passed, and soon, dawn arrived.

At seven in the morning, the fat cook pushed the cart again to deliver breakfast. The other interstellar pirates still had compressed biscuits and drinking water, but Ah Sui and Xu Cenfeng’s meal boxes contained fried eggs, sausages, and a bowl of hot porridge.

The fat cook had almost been strangled by Ah Sui yesterday, so he couldn’t help but feel uneasy. He hid behind the side of the prison door, trying to stay as far from the bars as possible, making sure Ah Sui couldn’t reach his collar. Only then did he stretch out his arm cautiously and pass the meal box through the window.

“Grand Leader, your breakfast.”

Ah Sui hadn’t slept all night, and there was now a faint shadow of dark circles under his eyes. With a neutral expression, he stood by the prison door, reached out to take the meal box, and handed it to Xu Cenfeng. Then he waved at the fat cook. “Come here.”

The fat cook trembled in fear at the command. “Huh? You want me to come over?”

Ah Sui thought to himself, Who else would be outside except the fat cook? He frowned and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t strangle you.”

Ah Sui’s reputation in the alliance was still solid, so when the fat cook heard his words, he cautiously approached the prison door, ready to flee at the slightest provocation. However, Ah Sui suddenly asked in a low voice, “Do you know where Blairand is?”

“Major General Blairand?”

The fat cook finally came to his senses upon hearing this. That’s right, Major General Blairand had always been somewhat ambiguous with their Grand Leader. They might have already been together. It was only natural to inquire about the situation. “I heard that Major General Blairand was rescued by a search team from the wilderness yesterday. He’s been settled in the starship next door to recover, but he hasn’t woken up yet.”

Ah Sui: “Are his injuries serious?”

The fat cook said, “Don’t worry, military females have strong self-healing abilities. Major General Blairand is an A-class female zerg, so he shouldn’t have any major issues.”

Ah Sui relaxed slightly upon hearing this. After a moment, as if remembering something, he suddenly spoke up and asked, “What about Heim and the others?”

Although those male zergs had been following him to learn martial arts, they hadn’t amounted to much, and during the battle, he didn’t even know where they scattered off to. Now, there was no sign of them.

The fat cook glanced around, then lowered his voice and secretly revealed some insider information to Ah Sui. “Actually, the army only caught part of the interstellar pirates last night. A small group is still out there. His Excellency Heim was probably taken by those interstellar pirates, and General Aks is worried about it.”

“Quike and the others said that the army won’t be returning to the capital anytime soon. Over the next few days, they plan to find a way to steal the prison keys, and as soon as there’s a chance, they’ll let you go.”

Ah Sui, still angry that they had deceived him, found it hard to stay mad after hearing this. He gripped the cold iron bars, then slammed his head against the prison door. He never imagined he would end up locked up with a group of star pirates. “Brother Cenfeng and I never wanted to be interstellar pirates. We had no choice.”

The fat cook shushed him. “Grand Leader, Black Fang and Carlos are also locked up in the prison. It’s not enough for us to clear your name. Those hundreds of interstellar pirates will turn on you to save their own skins. When it comes to the military tribunal, who knows what will happen? In my opinion, running away halfway would be the simplest solution.”

Ah Sui froze for a moment upon hearing this, then instinctively looked up at him. “But then I’d become a fugitive, wouldn’t I?”

The fat cook replied, “A fugitive is still better than a prisoner. Just wait a few more days, and don’t worry.”

He didn’t dare speak much more to Ah Sui, fearing the other interstellar pirates would notice. After saying this, he nervously glanced around, then began distributing breakfast, pushing the cart forward amidst a chorus of curses.

Ah Sui couldn’t help but feel a headache. He could only lie back down on the bed. Xu Cenfeng, on the other hand, turned over and sat up on the bed, opened the meal box, and began eating breakfast. He handed Ah Sui a grilled sausage. “Want to eat something?”

Ah Sui shook his head. “I can’t eat.”

Xu Cenfeng had no choice but to retract his hand and slowly begin eating his own meal. Just as he was lost in thought, a low voice suddenly sounded in his ear. “Brother Cenfeng, if there’s a chance in the next few days, you should escape.”

Xu Cenfeng took a sip of porridge, his keen senses catching the underlying meaning in Ah Sui’s words. “What about you?”

Ah Sui shook his head. “I’m not running away. I want to go to the city and look for Grandpa San.”

Xu Cenfeng asked, “Aren’t you afraid to go alone?”

In fact, if it weren’t for his concern about leaving Ah Sui alone in the prison, he would have left yesterday.

Ah Sui was silent for a moment after hearing this, then turned over and looked at Xu Cenfeng. His tone remained simple, like the soft clouds drifting in the sky, but now there was a hint of calm that had settled within him. “Brother Cenfeng, we both have people to wait for. You want to go find your friends in the north, and I want to wait for Blairand to wake up, then go with him to find Grandpa San.”

Ah Sui continued, “I can’t hold you back any longer. As soon as I get the chance, I’ll go to the north to find you.”

Blairand should save him, right?

Even if he can’t be saved, Ah Sui wasn’t afraid. The Salaranfa law didn’t have the death penalty, and he hadn’t done anything wrong. If he was really caught, he wouldn’t be locked up for long.

Ah Sui had been lost in thought, filled with uncertainty and worry about the future, but at least he no longer felt as lost and helpless as before. He remembered what the fat cook had said about Blairand being in the next starship, recovering from his injuries. He quietly measured the distance with his hand at the edge of the bed.

So they’ve always been so close…

Blairand’s injuries were too severe, and it took him three days to slowly wake from his deep slumber. He only felt as if he had been through a strange, surreal dream, one where the only clear image was of Ah Sui, frightened by his zerg form, hurriedly running away. Yet, in the end, it seemed like the other had stumbled back…

The memory was too chaotic, and he couldn’t be sure if it had really happened.

The military doctor, who was in charge of tending to him, saw the female zerg lying in the bed suddenly begin to breathe rapidly, his chest rising and falling violently for a moment. Before the doctor could approach to check on him, Blairand’s eyes snapped open, and in the next second, he sat up abruptly from the bed.

“Ah Sui—!”

The doctor was startled and jumped back. “Major General Blairand?!”

Blairand gasped for air, his shallow blue pupils originally in the shape of tiny needles, radiating the cold and viciousness unique to a beast. It wasn’t until he heard the military doctor’s shout that he finally came to his senses, albeit slowly. His pupils gradually dilated to normal, and he scanned the surroundings before looking down at the bandages wrapped around him. Stunned, he spoke, “…Where am I?”

His voice was hoarse and broken, as if it had been scorched by intense flames.

The military doctor checked the zerg markings on the back of Blairand’s neck, then reached out to check his temperature. Only then did he speak in a low voice to explain, “Major General Blairand, this is a temporary military camp. A search team rescued you from the wilderness a few days ago. General Aks ordered us to take good care of you.”

The wilderness?

A search team?

Blairand tried to recall the events of that night, but a sharp, needle-like pain shot through his brain. He suddenly grabbed the military doctor’s wrist, his voice cold as he asked, “Did they only save me? Did they find a black-haired, black-eyed male zerg in the wilderness?”

The military doctor was taken aback. “A black-haired, black-eyed male zerg? Was he an interstellar pirate? General Aks captured a group of inte pirates a few days ago, and among them, there were two black-haired, black-eyed male zergs…”

Before the military doctor could finish speaking, Blairand threw off the blanket and staggered to his feet. The doctor quickly stepped forward to support him. “Major General, where are you going?!”

Blairand, fearing something might have happened to Ah Sui, frowned as he pressed his hand to his shoulder wound and asked, “Where are the two male zergs being held? Take me there.”

Although this fleet was under Aks’ command, Blairand was of equal rank and had certain command authority. The military doctor didn’t dare to disobey and could only help Blairand change into clean clothes before leading him to the starship where the star pirates were being held.

Ah Sui and Xu Cenfeng were male zergs, so their treatment was inevitably somewhat special. While other interstellar pirates were cramped together in a small cell, the two of them had individual rooms.

Ah Sui used to be restless, but the past couple of days, he had been unusually quiet, lying on the bed, pondering life with nothing to do. His hearing was sharp, and he suddenly heard a flurry of footsteps coming from the corridor. He muttered in confusion, “Hmm? Someone’s coming?”

This starship was a high-security prison, and besides the plump cook who occasionally came to deliver meals, ordinary soldiers weren’t allowed to get close. The footsteps this time were chaotic and light, unlike those of the cook.

Ah Sui peered through the bars and saw a guard suddenly unlock the door. The iron sliding door creaked open, revealing the figure of a “visitor” outside.

Standing outside was a young female general. He had a tall, slender figure, dressed in a white military uniform and black boots, exuding an inexplicable aura of cold detachment. As Ah Sui’s gaze moved upward, what came into view was a pale face, drained of blood. His golden hair and blue eyes carried a striking contrast to the cold, rigid military attire, with a youthful, gentle warmth that was unmistakably Blairand.

“Blairand?!”

Ah Sui was surprised and quickly sat up on the bed, clearly not expecting the other party to suddenly appear here. During the days he had been imprisoned, Ah Sui had hoped Blairand would wake up and rescue him as soon as possible. But now that they were face-to-face, he found himself at a loss for words.

Blairand turned his head and looked at the guards. “Leave.”

The guards hesitated. “General…”

Blairand’s voice turned colder. “Leave!”

The guards, thinking that the two fragile male zergs inside wouldn’t pose any threat to Blairand, hesitated for a moment but eventually withdrew. “I’ll be right outside. You can call for me if anything comes up.”

Once the guards left, Blairand finally stepped into the cell. From the moment he entered, his gaze was fixed on Ah Sui. It was a look filled with surprise, worry, and uncertainty, all of which gradually melted into a complex mix of emotions.

“Ah Sui…?”

Blairand stepped closer to Ah Sui, his brow furrowing slightly as he spoke softly, his voice carrying a hint of unspoken unease. He raised his hand tentatively, as if he wanted to touch Ah Sui’s cheek, but for some reason, he hesitated, his hand suspended in the air.

He wasn’t sure if Ah Sui would be afraid of him…
