ICAWZ Chapter 157

ARC 4: Old Friend

In Salaranfa, male zergs are esteemed based on the purity of their blood; the higher the blood purity, the stronger their reproductive abilities. Previously, the male zerg with the highest blood purity in the empire had only reached 56%, yet he was still granted a royal title by the Zerg Emperor and honored as a distinguished guest.

Later, a pureblooded male zerg with black hair and black eyes appeared in Salaranfa, causing a major upheaval at the time. Though the situation has finally settled down, no one expected another anomaly like Ah Sui to emerge.

Dean Dalle rushed Ah Sui to the hospital for emergency treatment and conducted a thorough physical examination on the male zerg. To ensure the accuracy of the data, he even personally drew a blood sample and sent it to the lab for testing. Yet the result remained unequivocally the same—100%, without error.

“A pureblooded male zerg… It really is a pureblooded male zerg…”

Dean Dalle’s hands trembled as he clutched the lab report, his joy teetering on the edge of madness. He specifically instructed the attending physician to meticulously record all of the male zerg’s physical data. Then, without wasting a moment, he hurried off to report the findings, leaving behind a group of police officers who had just arrived, staring blankly at one another outside the hospital room.

Chief Officer Marlow was utterly stunned. Stammering, he asked, “H-he… what did he just say? That male zerg’s blood purity is one hundred percent?! Then… then what do we do about this wanted list?!”

Blairand frowned as he paced restlessly outside the hospital room, his expression tinged with unease. Noticing that Chief Officer Marlow was still fixated on the issue of the wanted list, he shot him a cold glance and said, “What do you mean, what do we do? He’s lying right there in the hospital bed. Why don’t you go ahead and throw him in jail right now?”

“I… I…” Marlow faltered, rendered speechless.

Chief Officer Marlow was left speechless by Blairand’s sharp retort. Setting aside the fact that Ah Sui was currently burning with a high fever, Marlow didn’t dare lock up someone with a 100% pure bloodline—not unless he had a death wish.

This was truly baffling. How could a pureblooded male zerg suddenly turn up as an interstellar pirate?!

Chief Officer Marlow flipped through the wanted notice in his hand, utterly perplexed. The previous pureblooded Lord was also described as having black hair and black eyes, and the portrait on Ah Sui’s wanted poster showed the same features. Could it be that the defining trait of pureblooded male zergs was black hair and black eyes?

This thought suddenly flashed through his mind, and Marlow was struck by an incredible suspicion. He quickly scanned the other wanted posters and discovered something shocking—not only Ah Sui, but another male interstellar pirate on the list also had black hair and black eyes.

Could that zerg also be a pureblooded male zerg?!

The thought sent a jolt through Chief Officer Marlow. He could no longer justify lingering at the hospital room door. Hastily bidding farewell to Chief Harrington and Blairand with a quick “Excuse me,” he rushed back to the police station to report this astonishing revelation to his superiors.

There were never any secrets in the Imperial Capital—especially not when the incident took place in the heart of the aristocratic district. Within a day, news of the “appearance of a second pureblooded male zerg” had spread across most of the capital. By evening, the local jurisdiction even dispatched a special team to guard the hospital floor, stationing personnel at every entrance and exit to ensure tight security.

“Chief Harrington, I am here under the Zerg Emperor’s orders to ensure the safety of His Highness. I heard you traveled all the way from the southern regions to the capital just yesterday. Why are you still keeping watch here through the night? It’s getting late—why don’t you head back and get some rest?”

Anyone who holds a high position in the Imperial Capital is shrewd, and the Director of the Imperial Guards was no exception—he was a crafty old fox. With a smile, he took Chief Harrington’s hand, speaking in a tone full of concern, all the while subtly pushing him away. What his true intentions were, only he knew in his heart.

Chief Harrington, however, sneered inwardly and wasn’t fooled. In all of Salaranfa, there were far more females than males, and almost every noble family had a few unmarried females. While pureblooded male zergs were rare and valuable, they were hardly precious enough to warrant the Director of the Imperial Guards personally keeping watch overnight. The old zerg’s intentions were clear—he was hoping to get close to Ah Sui, wanting to claim this golden opportunity for himself.

Chief Harrington merely smiled, keeping his true feelings hidden beneath a facade of politeness. “Director Lawson, what are you saying? His Highness Ah Sui is about to bond with Blairand soon. We are, after all, one family of zergs. Since he’s unwell, of course, I must stay here to watch over him.”

Director Lawson’s smile faltered, and a hint of disbelief flashed across his face. What was this nonsense? This pureblooded male zerg was about to bond with Blairand? Was the old fox Harrington trying to pull one over on him?

Director Lawson instinctively glanced at Blairand, who had been silently standing by the hospital room door, before hesitantly asking, “When did Blairand get engaged? I didn’t hear anything about this.”

Chief Harrington continued to smile, holding his hand warmly. “It was only settled yesterday, of course you wouldn’t know. Oh, and by the way, if you’re free, do come to the wedding. After all, we’ve been friends for over twenty years.”

Director Lawson couldn’t manage a smile anymore. He awkwardly pulled his hand back, forcing out, “Of course, of course.”

But inwardly, he cursed Chief Harrington for taking advantage of the situation while pretending to be all friendly.

When the previous pureblooded male zerg appeared, the entire aristocratic circle of the Imperial Capital was shaken to its core. Those ministers didn’t care whether they had eligible females at home—they all rushed to get close to him. But in the end, the royal family reaped the benefits, snatching him up.

His Highness ended up marrying the Seventh Prince, Yusto, and refused to take any female attendants. After the wedding, he immediately ran off to travel to another star, successfully avoiding the frenzy of attention that had followed him.

This time, a pureblooded male zerg had appeared again, and as soon as Director Lawson heard news of Ah Sui, he rushed over, thinking he might seize the opportunity. However, he never expected Chief Harrington to be faster than him—he had already begun discussing marriage.

What bad luck!

Director Lawson, no longer willing to waste time in this ungrateful place, instructed his subordinates to maintain tight security at the nearby entrances and exits before turning on his heel and leaving the hospital without a backward glance.

Throughout the entire exchange, Blairand had been the most silent of all. Only after Director Lawson had left did he lift his gaze to look at Chief Harrington. “Didn’t you say this morning that you didn’t approve of our marriage?”

Chief Harrington looked at Blairand with a mixture of disbelief and exasperation, as if he were speaking to a fool. “What I said in the morning was the morning, and this is the afternoon. This is a pureblooded male zerg! There’s no one more suitable in the entire Imperial Capital. If you don’t marry him, who else are you going to marry?”

He then stepped closer to Blairand, lowering his voice to remind him, “In just a few days, news of the second pureblooded male zerg will spread all over the capital. Once Ah Sui wakes up, you must seize the opportunity to finalize the marriage. Even the Director of the Imperial Guards came by just now. There will only be more zergs showing up in the next few days.”

Blairand wasn’t in the mood to think about those matters now. His gaze remained fixed on the hospital room door, his brow furrowing as he muttered, “We’ll talk about it once Ah Sui wakes up.”

This illness had come so suddenly and mysteriously, with no discernible cause. Blairand couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that gnawed at him, a sense of foreboding he couldn’t quite explain.

Ah Sui had burned with a high fever for two full days, and it wasn’t until the third day that his temperature finally started to return to normal. Whether it was because he had never been sick in his life, the fever came on particularly fiercely, almost as if he had brushed against the edge of death itself.

Lying in the hospital bed, Ah Sui struggled to open his eyes. His memory was still frozen in the moment at Blairand’s home, but when he finally opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was an IV drip hanging from a stand. The pure white ceiling blurred, making it hard to distinguish the edges, and the dizziness from the sudden change was overwhelming.

Where was he?

Ah Sui furrowed his brow and shut his eyes for a moment, gathering the strength to sit up from the bed. There were at least four attending physicians in the room, originally gathered together to analyze his physical data. When they suddenly heard a noise from the bed, they hurried over:

“Your Highness, you’re still receiving an IV, please don’t move around!”

“Your Highness, how are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?”

“Is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?”

Ah Sui didn’t understand why so many doctors in white coats were suddenly surrounding his bed. He cautiously pulled back, pressing his back against the wall, and scanned the room. However, he didn’t see Blairand anywhere, which caused an inexplicable sense of unease in his heart.

Furrowing his brow, Ah Sui asked, “Who are you? Where is Blairand?”

One of the attending physicians, noticing Ah Sui’s wariness and unease, quickly signaled for his colleagues to step back and tried to soften his tone. “Your Highness, you’re currently being treated at the Interstellar Hospital. We are all your attending physicians.”

Ah Sui, however, realized he hadn’t answered his most important question. “Where is Blairand? Have you seen Blairand?”

The attending physician explained, “You were unconscious for three whole days. Major General Blairand has been guarding outside this entire time. This morning, the military suddenly called him in to assist with an investigation, and he hasn’t returned yet.”

Ah Sui suddenly remembered his identity as an interstellar pirate, and his heart immediately tensed. Could it be that Blairand was taken for questioning because he had been hiding him?

“Did the military say what it was about when they called him in?”

The attending physician shook his head, clearly uncertain. “It’s probably related to official matters. Is there anywhere you’re still feeling unwell?”

Logically, someone recovering from a major illness should feel weak, but Ah Sui felt nothing of the sort. He lowered his head and clenched his fingertips, then focused on the inner energy in his dantian. To his surprise, not only had it not weakened, but it had actually grown significantly stronger.

To put it in an exaggerated way, he almost felt as if his marrow had been cleansed and his veins had been purged. His physical condition now felt far superior to what it had been before, much stronger than just a little bit.

But Ah Sui didn’t want to reveal the abnormality in his body, so he vaguely shook his head. “I don’t feel unwell anywhere.”

After saying that, something seemed to cross his mind. He reached up to touch his hair, only to discover that the strands he pulled out had changed from light brown to pure black. His body stiffened instantly.

Oh no! His hair had changed color!

The attending physician, however, seemed unaware of Ah Sui’s tension. He spoke gently, “Your Highness, may we take you to the washroom for a simple clean-up, and then conduct a full body check to make sure there are no lingering side effects?”

The physicians’ attitude toward Ah Sui was so respectful, it almost felt as if they were serving an emperor. Some even wanted to help him bathe, only to be promptly chased out.

“Thank you, I can wash up myself,” Ah Sui replied.

He had never felt so uneasy about a hospital before. He slammed the bathroom door shut, cutting off the doctors’ eager gazes. Facing the mirror, he looked at his reflection, only to discover that his hair was already as black as it could be, with no trace of brown left at all.

Ah Sui had been in Salaranfa for two days now and was aware that male zergs with black hair were extremely rare. That’s why, after being wanted, he had to dye his hair. Yet, the doctors seemed completely oblivious to his unusual appearance, all smiling warmly at him from start to finish.

Ah Sui couldn’t figure out why this was happening, so he simply turned on the shower and took a bath, then changed into the clean clothes provided by the hospital. Afterward, he joined the doctors for the body examination.

At that moment, Blairand was sitting in the military’s conference room, with General Saphir sitting across from him. Ever since Ah Sui’s blood purity was revealed, his identity as an interstellar pirate was no longer a secret, and the military quickly began an investigation into Blairand.

However, the situation wasn’t too bad yet. At least he was sitting in the conference room and not the interrogation room.

General Saphir, after several days of investigation, finally understood the entire sequence of events. For a moment, he wasn’t sure whether to scold Blairand for his foolishness or to acknowledge his luck. “Blairand, regardless of whether His Highness Ah Sui committed any illegal acts during his time as an interstellar pirate leader, this is no excuse for you to hide the truth from the Empire.”

Harboring a criminal was a serious offense, one that could range from demotion to imprisonment. Blairand, upon hearing this, slightly nodded but calmly accepted the situation. “I apologize for concealing the truth from you and the military. I am willing to accept any punishment.”

Behind Blairand stood the entire southern region, and even if the military issued a punishment, it would likely be no more than a suspension or a demerit. But clearly, Blairand was unconcerned with these external matters. His calm attitude gave the feeling of a punch landing on cotton—ineffectual and powerless.

General Saphir sighed, pulling a wanted poster from the corner of the desk and handing it to Blairand. “After further investigation, we found that another black-haired, black-eyed male zerg who was traveling with His Highness Ah Sui is likely also of pure blood. Blairand, if you can provide information on the whereabouts of this zerg, the offense will be forgiven, and you won’t face any punishment.”

Blairand raised his eyes at the mention of the portrait and immediately recognized the zerg depicted—Xu Cengfeng. In that instant, he understood everything.

It made sense. Xu Cengfeng and Ah Sui came from the same place, both had black hair and black eyes, and the likelihood of them being pure-blood males was very high.

Blairand regretted not stopping Xu Cengfeng from escaping back then. If he had come to the West, perhaps he would have been treated like Ah Sui now, cherished and protected by the Empire, instead of being exiled.

For a brief moment, Blairand’s conscience hurt: “I’m sorry, I don’t know the exact whereabouts of that male. I only know that when he fled, he headed toward the northern direction. He might be in Hossburgh now, perhaps.”

Hossburgh?

General Saphir couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated upon hearing this. The northern and western regions had always been at odds with each other. If that pureblood male really ended up in the north, it would be a miracle to bring him back.

General Saphir pressed further, “Are you sure? There’s no chance you’ve communicated in private at all?”

Blairand shook his head, his voice steady, “I’m sorry, but no.”

Blairand felt a brief sense of relief as he heard that Ah Sui had awakened. The weight that had settled on his chest since the military investigation seemed to lighten slightly. Though the ordeal was over and his status was secure, he couldn’t help but feel a lingering unease, knowing that Ah Sui’s true identity still posed a potential danger to both of them.

He hurried to the hospital, his thoughts racing. Now that Ah Sui was awake, there would be plenty to discuss, but first, he needed to make sure the younger male was alright after everything he had been through.

The attending doctor appeared somewhat worried: “His Highness woke up this morning. He’s been sitting in his hospital room, refusing to eat or drink, saying he’s waiting for you to come back. No matter how we tried to persuade him, he wouldn’t listen. Major General Blairand, please go check on him.”

The hospital had finally received such a rare pureblood male, and what would happen if he starved to death?

Hearing this, Blairand’s heart tightened. He quickly opened the door and entered the room. He saw Ah Sui sitting alone on the hospital bed, not speaking to anyone. Around him were three or four nurses holding trays of food, trying to feed him, but he ignored them and shrank even further into the corner of the bed.

“Ah Sui!” Blairand couldn’t help but call his name.

Ah Sui heard the familiar voice and finally lifted his head from his sluggish state, instinctively looking toward the door. “Blairand?!”

Blairand quickly walked to the bedside and sat down. He reached out to touch Ah Sui’s forehead and found that his temperature had returned to normal. The weight on his heart finally lifted. “You’re awake at last. Do you feel any discomfort?”

Ah Sui frowned and shook his head, leaning toward Blairand like a little animal seeking comfort. “I’m not feeling unwell, but those doctors wouldn’t leave. They insisted on feeding me and making me drink water, and I couldn’t find you no matter how hard I looked.”

Blairand thought to himself that Ah Sui probably still didn’t know about his identity. He raised his hand to gently push aside the stray strands of hair in front of Ah Sui’s face, letting out an involuntary sigh. “Your blood purity is now 100%. Of course, they have to take extra care of you.”

Ah Sui didn’t understand what that data meant, and even if he did, he wouldn’t pay much attention to it. Frowning, he muttered, “But I don’t want them taking care of me.”

Blairand paused for a moment upon hearing this. He turned to the doctors behind him and said, “I’ll take care of him here. You can leave for now.”

The female doctors, originally hoping for some close contact with Ah Sui, were inevitably disappointed upon hearing this. However, they didn’t dare contradict Blairand and reluctantly left the room.

Ah Sui watched them leave and, feeling a bit uneasy, nervously touched his hair. “My hair has turned completely black now. Do you think they’ll notice that I’m a wanted criminal? Maybe we should leave the hospital today?”

Blairand thought to himself how clueless Ah Sui still was, not realizing that his identity had already been exposed. He shook his head slightly and said, “The day you had your fever, someone already noticed you were a wanted criminal and called the police to report you.”

Ah Sui froze at the words, as if a suspicion had formed in his mind. “Who reported me?”

That red-haired guy?

Blairand confirmed his suspicion with a simple nod. “Yes, the red-haired male zerg you almost bumped into at the hospital that day. He lives across from our house.”

Ah Sui fell silent, feeling a surge of frustration.

Blairand was about to comfort Ah Sui, telling him that the empire had already rescinded the bounty on him. However, before he could speak, a knock on the door interrupted them. “Major, His Highness the Eighth Prince, Gaien, has come to visit His Highness Ah Sui. May I let him in?”

Harrington, fearing that someone else might steal away this prized catch, had left several Southern military females guarding the door outside the room. Not long after Blairand arrived, the Eighth Prince, Gaien, unexpectedly came to visit.

To be precise, it wasn’t just the Eighth Prince Gaien—his male lord Ashya, and the one who had made the false report, Johnny, were also with him.

Yes, that’s right. The one who had made the false report, Johnny.

The Eighth Prince Gaien stood outside the room, glancing at Johnny, who was being scolded thoroughly by his male lord, Ashya. He spoke up to offer some advice: “Johnny, next time if you encounter a situation like this, make sure to investigate thoroughly before calling the police. You were too hasty this time.”

Johnny, looking utterly aggrieved, replied, “But he’s an interstellar pirate! He looks exactly like the one on the wanted poster!”

Ashya had remained silent throughout the exchange, his attention focused on absentmindedly twirling the silver ring on his unnamed finger. The golden-rimmed glasses perched on his nose flashed with a glint of light, his emotions unreadable. Upon hearing Johnny’s words, he didn’t even look at him, but coldly responded, “If you’re still so fond of arguing, then you won’t be going inside.”

Johnny immediately dropped to his knees, pleading, “Brother, I was wrong.”
