SDVPP Chapter 68

Painting Festival

The university campus was always full of energy. Even during mealtime, you could see boys and girls everywhere holding up sunshades, handing out flyers.

Chi Han held Rong Xu’s hand as they slowly walked along the pebble path; at this moment, the sunlight was just warm.

“This is Kangqiao. Up ahead on the lake is Queqiao. I heard that during the Qixi Festival, people come here in droves to take photos and post them on their social circles…”

Chi Han chatted on and on, as if trying to make up for the time they had missed over the past year.

Rong Xu listened quietly, following the direction of his finger to look at every place.

When he was alone in the hospital, he always thought about Chi Han.

All kinds of thoughts would rush to his mind.

At that time, what he feared most was discovering that Chi Han might be happier without him. Every time he thought of it, his chest would ache intensely.

The physical pain combined with psychological pressure caused Rong Xu to fall seriously ill. For days and nights, his fever would not subside. In a daze, he loosened all his strength, and only one thought remained in his mind.

If this time he didn’t wake up, would Chi Han be sad?

Half awake and half asleep, a tear slipped down Rong Xu’s cheek.

His cracked lips, dry and peeling from the fever, moved slightly. The assistant, eyes red from emotion, leaned in close, and the only sound that could be heard was the name “Chi Han.”

These two words had long been engraved into his flesh and blood, deep into his bones.

When a person is sick and suffering, they often unconsciously call out to the one closest to them.

The assistant knew that Chi Han had already become an obsession that Rong Xu couldn’t speak of.

When going to get the phone, they realized Rong Xu’s phone had been off for some unknown time. After plugging it in and turning it on, over thirty missed calls popped up—all from Chi Han.

A single phone call was worth more than the hospital’s most precious medicine; that very night, Rong Xu was taken out of critical condition.

The assistant let out a long sigh, realizing that the two of them were truly inseparable.

Rong Xu squeezed Chi Han’s fingers. His own hands were usually cold, but now they were even warmer than Chi Han’s by a couple of degrees.

He clenched the other’s hand tightly and slipped it into the pocket of his coat. To anyone looking, they appeared like a couple deeply in love.

Chi Han moved his fingers slightly, then calmly leaned closer to Rong Xu. The two walked side by side.

“Hey, everyone! Don’t miss it as you walk by! The Art Club’s annual Painting Arts Festival has begun. Just sign up and you can win prizes! Paint your most beautiful person from your heart!”

A loud voice came from the loudspeaker, carrying a crackling static noise.

Chi Han glanced sideways and saw a girl holding a megaphone, energetically promoting the event.

Several large promotional screens were set up outside the sunshade, covered with all sorts of encouraging phrases.

The core message was simple: Come join the Painting Arts Festival! Not only can you showcase your work, but you can also win prizes!

“The first prize is a Bluetooth speaker, the second prize is the latest lipstick… Wow, they’re really going all out this time!”

Chi Han read aloud with interest, though he wasn’t particularly enthusiastic—he just found it amusing.

“Want to join?” Rong Xu turned his face toward Chi Han and looked at him for a moment, then suddenly grabbed him and started walking toward the sunshade. “If you want to join, just sign up.”

Chi Han was startled, quickly grabbing Rong Xu’s hand back, his light brown eyes wide. “When did I ever say I wanted to join? Although I have learned carving before, it was mostly flowers, birds, fish, insects, or various-shaped objects. As for portraits, I really don’t do well at all…”

Rong Xu stopped where he was and looked back at him. “Then…”

Before he could finish speaking, a sudden gust of wind blew from ahead, and the girl dashed over at lightning speed, her eyes shining brightly. “Are you two here to sign up for the Arts Festival? Come, come, the registration forms are right here—sign up!”

Chi Han sighed a little helplessly. “No, I don’t know how to paint portraits.”

He had just heard the announcement about painting the most beautiful person and had instinctively thought of Rong Xu.

But if he really had to pick up a brush and paint… Chi Han couldn’t help but shiver; just thinking about it made him scared.

Who knows what kind of alien creature would come out?

The girl looked at Chi Han, then at Rong Xu. The guy standing next to the school heartthrob was absolutely stunning!

Especially with their hands held together!

The girl discreetly pinched the area between her nose and upper lip.

No, she still had a career to pursue—she couldn’t get lost in beauty!

Chi Han hesitated a little, afraid that his hand might sully Rong Xu’s, but now that he thought about it, the idea of personally painting a picture for Rong Xu was also quite tempting…

While Chi Han was battling these thoughts in his mind, the girl keenly spotted the key issue. She quietly leaned toward Rong Xu and, before he could frown, whispered quickly:

“Hey, handsome, don’t you want your boyfriend to be looking at you all day long? Painting is an activity that really demands attention to detail, you know.”

With that, the girl smoothly stepped back.

As it turned out, she had guessed right.

After hearing this, Rong Xu couldn’t help but think of Chi Han’s eyes.

Clear and pure.

If those eyes were filled with himself all day long, nothing would be able to steal his attention away.

Rong Xu had to admit, his heart was moved.

“Where’s the registration form?” His thin lips parted slightly, and a voice clear and refreshing like a spring flowed out.

Chi Han: “???”

It was rare for Rong Xu to be so interested in something, so Chi Han smiled and took him into the sunshade.

It was just a painting festival; whatever Rong Xu liked, he would give.

Rong Xu lowered his gaze to watch Chi Han filling out the registration form, his throat moving slightly, eyes deep and intense.

The girl beside them held back the urge to take out her phone, feeling overwhelmed by the pink bubbles of sweetness.

Oh my god! The school heartthrob’s boyfriend’s gaze was enough to make one’s legs weak and face blush. Ugh, to hell with career—she just wanted to fangirl over this sweetness!!

After submitting the registration form, Chi Han received a set of painting supplies. He glanced at the submission deadline — next Monday.

Five or six days, that should be enough.

Rong Xu pulled him toward the campus exit, his thumb brushing over the slender wrist in his palm.

“It’s okay, I’m here.”

Chi Han was momentarily stunned, then said in surprise, “Huh? You can paint, too? Why have I never seen you paint before?”

Rong Xu looked down at him with a meaningful gaze, but in the end, said nothing.

“Hey, are you hungry? What do you want to eat?”

Chi Han didn’t pay much attention to the topic; his thoughts drifted away easily. He rubbed his stomach and did feel a bit hungry.

“Let’s go have hotpot. It’s been a long time since I last ate it. I’m really craving it.”

“Okay.”

Rong Xu smiled indulgently and took him to a famous hotpot restaurant nearby.

The two of them fought through the meal for two whole hours before finishing.

The afternoon was packed with classes again. Yin Hao thoughtfully saved seats for the two of them, even picking a very secluded spot. Rong Xu appreciated this kindness and called his assistant to bring some gifts to Chi Han’s roommates.

Of course, the gifts weren’t given for free.

That night’s ward rounds check-in was the price to pay for the gifts.

After showering, Chi Han turned on the humidifier. The autumn dryness was unbearable.

Just as he returned to bed, he saw Rong Xu leaning against the headboard pillow, flipping a black pen in his hand.

It looked quite expensive.

Suddenly, he remembered the whispered words Rong Xu had said to him during class earlier that day, and a flush of red spread across the pale skin around his ears.

Rong Xu paused his pen-twirling, gripping the pen as if holding the back of someone’s neck. He looked up at Chi Han and smiled—a smile filled with an indescribable intimacy.

“Did you wash up properly?”

Chi Han suddenly felt an impulse to turn around and run away.
