Rong Xu had a bit of a cleanliness obsession and insisted on showering before eating. Worried he might catch a chill, Chi Han turned on the bathroom heater for a while before letting him in.
The bathroom was filled with hazy steam, and the faint sound of running water could be heard.
Chi Han sat in a small armchair in the hospital room, comfortably squinting under the sunlight, completely relaxed and lazy.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. When he opened it, a tall, blonde foreign girl stood outside.
She was Rong Xu’s personal nutritionist.
Speaking fluent Chinese, the girl efficiently laid out Rong Xu’s lunch in proper order.
Since she hadn’t seen Chi Han before, she assumed he was a newly hired assistant. So, she proceeded to explain all the usual precautions once more.
“Mr. Rong must avoid spicy, greasy foods, and anything overly stimulating. They’re not good for his recovery. Also, one more thing. Although I don’t think Mr. Rong would engage in it, I still need to remind you: during the rehabilitation period, it’s best to avoid overly intense activities, like sex.”
Her expression was calm, as if she hadn’t said anything unusual at all. She looked curiously at Chi Han, whose lips were slightly parted and whose ears were turning red, and smiled, “You’re so cute. Shy boys are always adorable.”
Chi Han: “……”
Game over. He wasn’t sure he could handle this foreign sister.
But he still insisted on listening carefully to all the precautions.
After Chi Han asked several questions related to “intense activities”, the girl’s gaze toward him subtly changed. She discreetly glanced toward the bathroom, and an indescribable smile appeared on her face.
The kind of expression shared worldwide, when watching gossip unfold.
She had thought they’d just changed assistants. Who would’ve guessed that this time, Rong Xu had actually brought his little boyfriend back with him?
So even this cold and aloof pretty man could have someone he liked.
The girl gave Chi Han a once-over, and the corners of her red lips curled up.
He was quite cute. No wonder.
Chi Han felt prickly under her gaze. After finishing his questions, he politely escorted her out.
Just before stepping through the door, a trace of teasing flashed in the girl’s eyes. She deliberately raised her voice and said, “Don’t forget! For these twenty-one days, Mr. Rong must remain abstinent!”
The sound of water in the bathroom instantly stopped.
Chi Han: “…………”
His face turned bright red. He was sure the girl had figured something out. “Okay, okay, got it! I’ll supervise him!”
The girl laughed out loud and slipped away with a triumphant air.
It was a rare chance to mess with this usually cold and abstinent-looking man. Just thinking about it made her feel happy!
Although she hadn’t exactly lied. During rehabilitation, it really wasn’t recommended to get too worked up. Even though the official guidelines only said to try to avoid it.
……
Chi Han stared at the dishes on the table, trying his best to steady his breathing. That foreign girl was way too open. He was almost certain Rong Xu had heard something from inside the bathroom.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, Rong Xu came out, still wreathed in steam and carrying a faintly dangerous aura.
His dark eyes swept across the table. His tone was flat, without much emotion: “Lina was here just now?”
Lina—that was the name of the girl just now.
Chi Han nodded and said as naturally as he could, “Yeah. Come on, let’s eat before it gets cold.”
Rong Xu approached. His water-washed fingers, pale from the heat, curled around the back of Chi Han’s neck. He looked down at him, his smile carrying a hint of danger. “What did she say to you just now?”
Chi Han’s eyes darted away. The hand at the back of his neck loosened, only to shift and gently pinch his chin. The pad of Rong Xu’s thumb pressed at the corner of his lips, then traced along the slight parting, brushing lightly against the soft inside of his tongue.
The sensation made Chi Han shiver instinctively. He snapped at Rong Xu’s thumb in annoyance, giving it a quick bite and scolding, “Let’s cool it for these twenty-one days, alright? Have a pure relationship for once, cleanse our souls a bit!”
Rong Xu: “……”
He chuckled, eyes gleaming. “I’ll step out for a bit. Something came up.”
Chi Han: “?”
“You better not!” Chi Han grabbed him and pulled him back into the seat, knocking his fingers on the table. “Don’t you dare go looking for Lina. Twenty-one days will fly by. Be good. Eat your food.”
Rong Xu looked gloomy, his gaze dark as ink.
Chi Han felt a headache coming on. It seemed that the familiar rebellious streak was back again.
He rested his chin on one hand and thought for a moment. When he looked up, he saw Rong Xu silently starting to eat. Though his face was expressionless, there was somehow an unmistakable air of grievance about him.
Especially since he kept sneaking glances at Chi Han every few bites.
“Aiya, alright, don’t be mad,” Chi Han’s heart softened under that look in Rong Xu’s eyes. He reached out and took Rong Xu’s hand from the table, interlacing their fingers and giving them a shake. “Once this period is over, I’ll make it up to you.”
At those words, Rong Xu’s expression eased slightly. He turned his hand over to hold Chi Han’s in return, fingertips lightly brushing across Chi Han’s palm, sending little jolts of electricity up his arm.
Chi Han’s face flushed red. With tears in his eyes, he told the assistant to order three large bags of kuding tea.
…
The training that began at three in the afternoon focused mainly on the upper body. Chi Han sat nearby holding a cup, watching closely, and couldn’t help but swallow hard.
No wonder Rong Xu’s abs were more defined than his own. With this level of intensity, he was practically on par with the guys lifting heavy at the gym!
With Chi Han’s presence, the training room finally lost its usual icy chill. The frost in Rong Xu’s eyes seemed to melt on its own, causing the nearby doctor to click his tongue in amazement again and again.
No wonder the old Chinese saying goes: “Even the strongest steel can be tempered into gentle threads wrapped around a finger.”
By the time the final set of training was done, the sky outside had already turned dark.
Chi Han waited until Rong Xu’s sweat had cooled before tugging him along to head back.
Rong Xu turned to look at Chi Han and couldn’t help leaning down to kiss him.
What had once been dull and tedious training suddenly became sweet.
Their shadows stretched long in the hallway, standing so close they almost overlapped.
Chi Han licked his lower lip, grabbed Rong Xu’s collar, and tugged at it downward, snickering as he leaned in to return the kiss. His eyes sparkled. When Rong Xu moved in again, he quickly blocked his lips with the back of his hand and stifled a laugh. “Stop, stop! Put it on the tab. I’ll repay it later!”
Rong Xu: “……”
He ground his teeth in frustration, then couldn’t hold back a soft, indulgent smile as he lowered his gaze. “You’d better include interest when the time comes.”
Chi Han let out a cheeky laugh and tugged Rong Xu back into the room.
It was rare for the two of them to be together without any desire or tension. Chi Han fiddled with the wall-mounted TV for a while before finally managing to turn it on.
Rong Xu hadn’t touched the television once in the entire year he’d been here.
“Eh? There’s actually a pay-per-view movie on here,” Chi Han said, half-reclining against Rong Xu. With the mindset that expensive meant high quality, he started navigating with the remote. “Hm? Someone already paid for this?”
Chi Han’s eyes lit up, filled with the joy of snagging a freebie.
Rong Xu had only intended to keep him company. Seeing his reaction, he let out a soft chuckle.
Little money-grubber.
The movie title was overly poetic, and it turned out to be a foreign film. Chi Han slouched like a boneless cat, resting his head sideways and letting out a small yawn.
The next second, his yawn got stuck in his throat. He nearly choked on it and died on the spot.
The two male leads, who had been having a normal conversation just a moment ago, suddenly lunged at each other in a passionate kiss. Then the scene shifted straight to the bedroom.
It was clear where their hands were headed.
The surround sound system did its job with unwavering dedication, making it feel all too real.
Chi Han: “Cough cough cough!!!”
He scrambled up in a panic, fumbling to shut off the TV, his heart rate shooting straight past 180.
Rong Xu’s collar had been tugged open in the chaos, revealing a faintly visible swell on his pale, glowing skin.
Rong Xu propped his forehead up with one hand, lying on his side on the bed. His other hand gripped Chi Han’s ankle, thumb gently rubbing along the inner side. With a sudden tug, he dragged Chi Han over and called out in a low, husky voice:
“Baby…”
Chi Han trembled and frantically recited in his heart: Desire is emptiness, emptiness is desire. The word ‘lust’ has a knife on top.
Why did he have to go through this trial every single day?!
Rong Xu looked exactly like a seductive spirit, tempting mortals into sin. His thin lips pressed against Chi Han’s calf, then slowly began to trail upward.
A thousand times more enticing than that movie earlier.
Chi Han realized that he was starting to waver. Starting to want to defect to the enemy.
With a heroic resolve, he grabbed the kuding tea from the nightstand and downed it in one go. The intensely bitter taste spread from the tip of his tongue to the depths of his soul.
Chi Han smiled serenely like a monk holding a flower, instantly free of all worldly desire.
“Here, this one’s for you.”
The expression on his face was no different from someone saying, “Darling, time for your medicine.”
Rong Xu: “……”
He closed his eyes, the corner of his lips tugging up slightly, though the smile never reached his eyes.
As expected.
Lina can’t stay.
