ISWMQ – Chapter 22

Sun Yuzhi was the chief producer, after all. In no time at all, the car to pick up Chu Feiliang arrived.

It was a dedicated RV, very well-equipped, spacious and bright, with air conditioning and a bathroom inside.

Rong Guang had seen it long ago, but she still couldn’t help but feel pleasantly surprised when she got in.

“Sit wherever you like.” After getting in the car, Chu Feiliang relaxed and leaned back in her seat. She seemed a bit tired and, after a few words, she leaned against the window and fell asleep.

While Chu Feiliang was asleep, Rong Guang held her breath almost greedily, her gaze lingering on her face, unrestrained and fervent.

It was still the look she loved the most.

When those eyes focused on someone, the nearly unconcealable deep affection would pour out wantonly, completely drowning the person she was looking at.

If one’s resolve was even a little weak… they would be devoured by her deep affection.

Rong Guang thought dazedly, and she too fell asleep without realizing it.

When they arrived at the meeting point, there was hardly anyone around besides the cars.

“Sister Chu.” Chu Feiliang’s assistant came up to greet them. Her expression didn’t change when she saw Chu Feiliang.

Rong Guang watched as Chu Feiliang took the thermos from her assistant’s hand. It was still steaming. It seemed the assistant was already quite proficient at her job… something that couldn’t be said for the previous one.

Chacha also tilted her head, staring at the thermos in the assistant’s hand. Then she held up her own hands and pouted aggrievedly.

She had nothing.

Ye Zi quietly leaned in and whispered in her ear, “You can go to the crew’s little store next door later—my brother might be stingy, but he’s quite generous to his own people. The store has everything, and it’s all at wholesale prices.”

Chacha’s eyes lit up. “Can we resell them?”

Ye Zi was taken aback.

Then her eyes lit up too. “Good idea!”

Rong Guang had already followed Chu Feiliang inside.

Chacha glanced back. The van with a license plate ending in 5438 was approaching at what looked like a struggling, tortoise-like speed.

“She’s so slow.” Chacha linked arms with Ye Zi. The two kids walked hand-in-hand towards the small store, planning to go sell their loot.

“She has a guilty conscience, after all,” Ye Zi said with a sigh. “My brother is pretty lenient with the people under him, and while Uncle Chuan is strict, he usually doesn’t bother with these things. Who would have thought these little demons would get so used to throwing their weight around that they’d dare to bully anyone.”

“Anyone?” Chacha blinked, hesitantly picking up an ice cream, unsure if she dared to eat it.

Ye Zi puffed out her chest. “The person I’m protecting!”

Chacha immediately gave her a thumbs-up and tossed the ice cream into their shopping basket—with someone protecting her, she dared to eat it!

The drama was to be filmed in three parts. Because it spanned a long period, besides the sets that could be built at the studio, they often had to move to shoot on location.

Historical dramas were always grueling to film, but they were also the easiest way to build an actor’s foundation and were more likely to become massive hits.

If she were nominated in the future, she would have a presentable work to her name.

For the current Rong Guang, this drama was an excellent stepping stone and a perfect springboard.

The script was a thick stack, about as high as a water bottle cap, and this was only the first part.

When Rong Guang saw the sheer volume, she couldn’t help but grimace—although she had read the script, it was impossible to memorize all the lines in such a short amount of time.

And if her lines as a supporting character were already this numerous, what about Chu Feiliang’s as the protagonist?

Her script was filled with red markings.

Rong Guang swallowed and glanced at her with pleading eyes.

Chu Feiliang’s expression was serene, as if she paid no mind to all these lines. She just lowered her gaze, nestled in her seat, and slowly flipped through the pages.

However, judging from the way she occasionally flexed her right hand, it seemed she wasn’t entirely comfortable.

Seeing this, Rong Guang’s gaze grew even more pitiful, like a small, helpless puppy.

“The script is mostly set, but details might change at any time.” Zhang Nanchuan tapped the script in his hand, signaling for everyone to be quiet.

With a creak, the door was pushed open.

Zhang Nanchuan’s words were instantly forgotten. As if by agreement, no one paid him any mind as all eyes turned towards the doorway.

Rong Guang fell into a strange silence as she watched Chacha and Ye Zi walk in openly, under everyone’s stares.

When she caught sight of the mung bean popsicles in Chacha and Ye Zi’s hands, her eyelid twitched violently.

Chacha grinned in her direction, the green smear on her lips seeming to glow.

Everyone: “…”

They were late!

And they were eating!

And they were being provocative right in front of the chief director, chief producer, and all the other bigwigs!!

A crowd of people watched as the two openly broke the rules—who didn’t know that the thing Zhang Nanchuan and Sun Yuzhi hated most was actors doing other things during a table read, like eating and drinking?!

It was early in the morning, and many people weren’t fully awake yet. After waiting for so long, they were all listless, their souls having drifted far away.

Seeing this scene, they all woke up about eighty or ninety percent.

Some even widened their eyes, waiting for the good show to begin.

However.

They waited until Chacha and Ye Zi had each grabbed a small stool and sat in a corner, but Sun Yuzhi and Zhang Nanchuan remained completely quiet.

If it weren’t for the veins on the back of Zhang Nanchuan’s hand, which was gripping the script, looking like they were about to burst, they would have really thought—

—that these two prehistoric dinosaurs, whose tempers were equally explosive, had gone blind.

Those who knew Ye Zi’s identity smiled kindly at her and Chacha, but their estimation of Rong Guang’s status rose another level.

Don’t try to curry favor, but it’s best not to offend her either.

Sitting across from Rong Guang was Jiang Ruyi.

When enemies meet, their eyes burn with exceptional rage.

Jiang Ruyi probably still had no idea what had happened outside.

She only saw Rong Guang follow Chu Feiliang in, looking dejected, with a red mark on her face and even a hint of tears in the corners of her eyes.

The moment she saw this, Jiang Ruyi could hardly contain her delight. Looking like this, Rong Guang must have been scolded—perhaps even hit.

She was feeling quite smug right now.

Little did she know that Rong Guang was embarrassed because of what happened in front of Chu Feiliang—

Let’s rewind time to a dozen or so minutes ago.

Perhaps it was the wind from outside, combined with waking up so incredibly early—before five—that Rong Guang got into Tang Yuan’s car and was driven here as if in a bumper car.

The car had no air conditioning and was in disrepair. Even for someone like Rong Guang, who didn’t get carsick easily, the ride was quite jarring.

When she suddenly got into Chu Feiliang’s car, perhaps the ventilation system was too comfortable and the seats too soft, because Rong Guang soon became too sleepy to keep her eyes open and actually fell asleep just like that.

The driver was considerate, too. A trip that should have taken a dozen minutes was stretched into a thirty-minute affair, giving her ample space to fall into a deep sleep.

The result was that Rong Guang slept so soundly that she mistook Chu Feiliang’s hand for a pillow and rested on it comfortably for the entire ride—even drooling all over it.

When Rong Guang woke up, the sun was shining brightly outside.

She squinted and let out a yawn, so comfortable that for a moment she didn’t even realize where she was.

Just as she was rubbing her eyes, about to push herself up from the table, she heard Chu Feiliang speak in an extremely slow and enchanting tone, almost right next to her ear, “Was it comfortable?”

Rong Guang’s yawn was scared right back down her throat.

The tears brought on by the yawn were also perfectly timed, rolling down from the corners of her eyes and landing precisely on Chu Feiliang’s arm.

Chu Feiliang chuckled then, retracting the hand that had been pinned down, and stared for a couple of seconds at the two teardrops reflecting the sunlight.

Then, looking at Rong Guang’s dazed expression, she deliberately teased her, “Can’t even take a little joke? Why are you crying?”
