ISWMQ – Chapter 38

The hospital was brightly lit all night. Rong Guang’s car had just arrived when the doctors and nurses who had been waiting in the emergency room lobby were already pushing a gurney out.

While asking questions, they checked Chacha’s vital signs and carefully inquired about her condition from Rong Guang.

Rong Guang explained everything in detail, following them as they pushed the gurney inside.

Rong Guang couldn’t help, not even daring to lift the stretcher, afraid that she might use her strength incorrectly and make Chacha more uncomfortable.

Chacha’s hand gripped hers tightly, unwilling to let go. Faced with a group of strangers touching her all over, Chacha felt even more nervous. Several times, she couldn’t hold back and almost jumped off the gurney.

Rong Guang was in an uncomfortable position, but she said nothing, just softly comforting Chacha, running around with a sweaty head, taking the forms from the doctor to various departments to queue up for examinations.

When the final test results came out, everyone, including Rong Guang, breathed a sigh of relief.

A mild concussion, accompanied by a small amount of subcutaneous bleeding.

It wasn’t serious, but no matter the illness, once you had it, it was uncomfortable.

The doctor was also quite exhausted. When he first received the call, he had thought it was something very serious.

Wiping away his sweat, he said outside the hospital room door, “It’s nothing major. Just let her rest quietly for the next few days. Don’t give her anything to eat on the first day, just observe. She can eat tomorrow morning. Children recover quickly.”

Rong Guang nodded outside the door, carefully noting down all the precautions.

Chacha had already fallen asleep.

Rong Guang adjusted the IV drip, slowing the flow of the liquid. She then pinched Chacha’s arm and found it a bit cold. She only left the wrist exposed, tucking the rest of her tightly into the quilt.

She hadn’t opened her phone during that long period. It was only now that Rong Guang slumped into the hospital chair, her body filled with unconcealable exhaustion.

A red dot had been on her WeChat icon for a long time, with messages coming one after another.

Rong Guang briefly skimmed through the pinned messages from the production crew group chats. There wasn’t much content, mostly work-related.

Even though tonight’s events were destined to cause a small stir, no one dared to send messages in a public group chat in front of so many people.

Just as she was about to exit, her phone vibrated twice, and a new message popped up.

【Chu: Mm.】

Rong Guang’s hand brushed over the word ‘Mm’, and a relieved smile slowly appeared on her face.

Although it was just a simple ‘Mm’, in this hospital room, so quiet that only the sound of the monitoring equipment could be heard, it was unexpectedly comforting.

The next morning, Rong Guang took a taxi back to the set.

Because she had managed to sleep for nearly half an hour in the car, when Rong Guang arrived at the set, her spirits were quite good. There was no trace of having stayed up almost all night yesterday.

Zhang Nanchuan didn’t say much about Rong Guang’s arrival, just told her to rest well and prepare for the afternoon shoot.

Rong Guang breathed a sigh of relief, thanked him again, and lowered her head as she entered the makeup room.

Chu Feiliang had more scenes, and she was still flying around on wires early in the morning. Rong Guang watched for a while but didn’t dare to go up to her, afraid of delaying the progress.

There was no one in the makeup room at the moment. It was empty after pushing the door open, with nothing but a pile of costumes and props.

Rong Guang looked around and felt it was a bit too deserted.

“Ahhh, Sister Guangguang!” Ye Zi’s voice came from the end of the corridor, through the closed door. Rong Guang was startled, almost dropping the fried dough stick in her hand.

She smiled, her eyes curving, and as she turned her head, she saw Ye Zi rushing in.

Ye Zi rushed up to her and said, “How’s Chacha! How’s our precious Chacha—I saw from the surveillance that her head is wrapped in a thick layer. Did she bleed a lot? A broken head must hurt like hell!”

Ye Zi was extremely anxious, but she didn’t dare to call Chacha, afraid of disturbing her rest, so she could only endure it.

She had been waiting upstairs, and as soon as she saw Rong Guang’s figure, she immediately rushed down.

“Chacha is fine.” Rong Guang patted her head. “Have you eaten?”

Ye Zi shook her head and randomly grabbed a tea egg that Rong Guang had brought back, starting to gnaw on it. While eating, she said, “What did the doctor say? Last night I saw Sister Chu calling a doctor she knows to arrange a room. Is it serious? How long does she have to stay in the hospital?”

Rong Guang’s heart warmed, and she said with a smile, “A mild concussion. After the IV drip, Chacha is much better this morning. She needs to be hospitalized for a few days for observation. The doctor said if things go well, she can be discharged in three days. She needs to rest quietly after that.”

Ye Zi breathed a sigh of relief. “Resting is good, resting is fine—when Chacha comes back, I’ll give her half of my lounge. She can sleep there. Let Yuanyuan be your temporary assistant. Anyway, she has nothing else to do besides tutoring me.”

Rong Guang said with a smile, “No need. There aren’t many outdoor scenes during this period. It’s all filmed in the studio. I can take care of myself.”

Ye Zi then nodded, counting on her fingers, looking dejected at not being able to see her little friend. “Three more days.”

“You can go visit her at the hospital,” Rong Guang said. “And while you’re at it, make sure she doesn’t sneak any ice cream while I’m not there.”

When a child finds a playmate she gets along with particularly well, she no longer wants to face the film crew, which she doesn’t fit into, alone.

Rong Guang understood this feeling.

Ye Zi’s eyes lit up as expected. “Good idea!”

Her scenes were scheduled for the afternoon. Rong Guang glanced at her own schedule, put it aside, and planned to study the script. Maybe she could even catch up on some sleep later.

Ye Zi looked around and went to lock the door from the inside.

Rong Guang was taken aback and looked up from the makeup table.

Rong Guang said, “What’s wrong?”

There was actually a surveillance camera in the room. If they were to do anything, the camera would capture it all. Besides, there were only the two of them in the room. What could be so important that they needed to lock the door?

Ye Zi mysteriously moved a chair and sat in front of Rong Guang, saying, “Something happened.”

A bad feeling rose in Rong Guang’s heart. “What happened?”

“Jiang Ruyi is disfigured.” Ye Zi said with a grin. “She had a scene this morning in a small grove, a tryst scene. There were a few shots that needed to be close-ups on her face, but she couldn’t even come. Her assistant said that when Jiang Ruyi woke up this morning, her face was all messed up, and she was sent directly to the hospital.”

Rong Guang remembered seeing Jiang Ruyi last night, and her face had seemed abnormally red.

She squinted her eyes. Rong Guang thought for a moment and said, “Have they found out the reason?”

“No, the doctor couldn’t give a conclusive result either. They just said it was an allergic reaction, prescribed some ointment, and said she can’t wear makeup for a short period—and many parts of her face are broken out, with lots of red pimples, swollen and red. It’ll probably leave scars.”

Rong Guang noticed something was off with Ye Zi.

She raised an eyebrow, looking at Ye Zi’s ‘come on, ask me’ expression, and indulged the little girl, saying, “What else do you have that could be called a ‘secret’?”

Ye Zi’s eyes lit up. She clapped her hands and said, “Look at this!”

She took out an old-fashioned MP4 player, the kind that required a memory card.

The screen was a touchscreen. Rong Guang tapped play and discovered that it was the surveillance footage from last night.

And the location of the recording was the corridor right outside their room at that time.

There was a long, coffee-colored carpet in the corridor, in a darker shade. Because of this, when a bright white letter was tucked into the doorframe, it became even more conspicuous.

Someone came out of Jiang Ruyi’s room, walked around in front of her door, dropped a white object at the entrance, and then left.

“The person who tucked the note…” Rong Guang paused, recognizing the person’s appearance. It was the assistant who was always with Jiang Ruyi.

“What was written on that paper?” Ye Zi asked eagerly, her curiosity almost bursting.

“Chacha and I were planning to dig into the whole story—but we never thought of Jiang Ruyi. Is there some connection between them?!” Ye Zi’s eyes were sparkling. Having discovered something fun, she even started rubbing her hands together, looking eager.

Rong Guang was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

She thought for a moment and said, “I think I know… what’s going on.”

The person who had scared Chacha earlier, after last night’s events, it wasn’t hard to guess it was undoubtedly Mao Xiaosong.

But what was strange was, what was the connection between Mao Xiaosong and Jiang Ruyi?

Rong Guang couldn’t figure this out, but she could guess that Jiang Ruyi’s face was probably related to the cosmetics Mao Xiaosong said he was going to use to harm her.

As for the person who gave her the note as a hint…

Rong Guang touched her chin and said, “On that paper, it just said to be careful of Mao Xiaosong and Jiang Ruyi, that the cosmetics had been tampered with by Mao Xiaosong, and they were going to team up to harm me.”

Ye Zi was stunned, her mouth agape. After a long moment, she said, “Those two… are so evil.”

Rong Guang nodded without speaking.

Things like this were never lacking in this circle. The only difference was whether they got discovered or not.

Using tampered cosmetics to harm someone, on one hand, the success rate wasn’t very high, as few people used the same palette for a long time and had to wear makeup for more than ten hours, or even longer. On the other hand, it was because it was easily discovered, leading to joint liability where no one could escape.

As for this time… Rong Guang felt that some people might have been too clever for their own good.

“I’ll go to the front desk downstairs to get the key!” Ye Zi clapped her hands and got up to go.

Rong Guang quickly grabbed her, at a loss whether to laugh or cry. “What are you getting the key for?”

Ye Zi looked innocent. “To search the room, of course. Find out what Mao Xiaosong tampered with, and then get my brother to deal with him!”

Rong Guang shook her head. “It’s not the key you should be looking for, it’s Jiang Ruyi’s assistant.”

Ye Zi was stunned.

Rong Guang said, “Jiang Ruyi wouldn’t go get cosmetics she’s never used herself. Her assistant must have gotten them. It’s too late to go to their room now; it’s definitely been cleaned up.”

“You have a point.” Ye Zi scratched her head and turned to leave.

Rong Guang called out to her.

Ye Zi’s eyes were sparkling, filled with the excitement of being about to do something big. “What is it, Sister Guangguang?”

“You shouldn’t go.” Rong Guang frowned, took two steps forward to open the door, and said, “I’ll handle this. You and Chacha should focus on your studies. Don’t get too involved in other things.”

Ye Zi pouted. “Why? I want to get revenge for Chacha too.”

“Getting revenge for Chacha is easy. Go to where Mao Xiaosong is being held, kick him a couple of times, take a picture and send it to Chacha, then tell her about Mao Xiaosong’s miserable state to make her happy too.” Rong Guang said with a smile, “Kicking someone a few times isn’t illegal.”

Ye Zi paused. “That makes sense!”

Rong Guang watched Ye Zi rush out eagerly, her eyes curving in amusement.

It was one thing for Ye Zi to know about these things, but to have them face such blatant malice at their age… it was really a bit too early.

The relationship between Zhao Xiaole, Jiang Ruyi, Jiang Yuan, and Mao Xiaosong was unknown to her.

But for an assistant like Zhao Xiaole to harm her boss who paid her salary, Rong Guang wouldn’t believe there was no reason behind it.

But as for the specific reason, she would investigate it herself. It had nothing to do with the kids.

She thought for a moment, checked the time, and prepared to leave.

However, the moment the door closed, she saw Chu Feiliang at the corner, who had been waiting there for who knows how long.

She froze, her heart thumping heavily in her chest, and her face instantly turned pale.
