Jiang Yuan needed to get his act together!
Jiang Yuan silently rolled onto his side, pushing all thoughts out of his mind. He’d deal with everything else later.
When Jiang Yuan opened his eyes, there was nothing around him except for a faint trace of pheromones lingering in the air, remnants from what had unconsciously leaked out last night.
Jiang Yuan woke up feeling hot. He wanted to get up, but his body felt weak.
Fuck.
Again?
Weren’t heat cycles supposed to have intervals between them?
Jiang Yuan frowned. Why so soon?
As Jiang Yuan was gritting his teeth through it, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Outside the door.
The doorbell had been ringing for a while, but the door remained closed.
The handsome man’s brows furrowed slightly as he pressed the bell again.
His striking looks made everyone passing through the hallway turn their heads to look at him.
Why hadn’t Jiang Yuan come out yet?
As usual, Ji Rong had gotten up early to wait for Jiang Yuan to eat. He took out his communicator and dialed a number. After waiting for a moment, the owner of the number answered. Before Ji Rong could speak, he heard a hoarse voice say, “I don’t have much appetite. Just go ahead without me. Don’t worry about me.”
“What’s wrong?” Ji Rong immediately sensed something was off when he heard Jiang Yuan’s voice and asked urgently.
“It’s nothing. I just didn’t sleep well last night.” Jiang Yuan lied, closing his eyes. He felt awful, and hearing Ji Rong’s voice only made it worse.
Ji Rong said in a deep voice, “Open the door. Let me check on you.”
“I’m… fine,” Jiang Yuan replied, his voice trembling slightly at the end.
Ji Rong’s heart clenched at the tremor in Jiang Yuan’s voice. “Are you in heat again?”
Jiang Yuan closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. “No.”
Ji Rong immediately replied, “Then open the door and let me in to make sure.”
“Really, I’m not—”
Before Jiang Yuan could finish, Ji Rong cut him off, his tone firm, “Open the door.”
Jiang Yuan lay in bed, thought for a moment, and sent the command to open the door. The housekeeping system quickly opened it.
Hearing the sounds of the door opening and closing, Jiang Yuan closed his eyes, staying in bed.
A handsome face appeared at his bedside.
The man’s striking features were etched with concern, clearly worried about him.
“I can smell pheromones,” Ji Rong’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke.
So it was a heat after all.
Ji Rong lowered his gaze to look at Jiang Yuan. His Adam’s apple bobbed again. “Let me help you.”
Ji Rong felt he was being truly shameless.
How could he say “let me help you” so easily?
When he was actually dying with anticipation inside!
Seeing Ji Rong reach to undo his collar buttons, Jiang Yuan quickly grabbed his hand and said, “I’m really not in heat!”
Ji Rong thought Jiang Yuan was resisting and bit his lip, his thin lips moving as he spoke, “You’ll suffer like this. Don’t reject me.”
“Well, if that’s the case…” Jiang Yuan looked at Ji Rong, gritted his teeth, and hugged him directly. “Then… release some of your pheromones.”
Ji Rong was stunned for a moment, then his pheromones instantly enveloped Jiang Yuan.
Sure enough…
It wasn’t a heat.
He really wasn’t in heat. He initially thought he was, but after waiting half an hour, while his body felt somewhat uncomfortable, it was completely manageable. It was nothing like the suffering he experienced during his heat the day before.
Half an hour later, Jiang Yuan finally felt better. Ji Rong sat beside him looking dejected as he watched Jiang Yuan search for information, trying not to show his disappointment.
His ulterior motives had failed.
When Jiang Yuan asked him to release his pheromones, he got carried away and started undressing while releasing them. But after taking a few sniffs, Jiang Yuan told him to stop releasing pheromones and put his clothes back on!
“My symptoms are similar to… pheromone dependency syndrome.” Jiang Yuan said gravely, turning to look at Ji Rong.
“Pheromone dependency syndrome?!”
Ji Rong stiffly raised his head, meeting Jiang Yuan’s gaze.
The symptoms of pheromone dependency syndrome included Omegas experiencing periods of extreme anxiety and restlessness, which could only be soothed by an Alpha’s pheromones.
However, these symptoms mainly appeared in pregnant Omegas!
Of course, these symptoms could appear in other situations too.
Ji Rong unconsciously looked down at Jiang Yuan’s belly.
Jiang Yuan blocked Ji Rong’s line of sight and said, “Why are you staring at my stomach?”
Ji Rong said softly, “Do you think… could you be pregnant…”
“Thump.”
Ji Rong’s head got a light smack from Jiang Yuan.
“Pregnant my ass! What are you thinking?” Jiang Yuan rolled his eyes at Ji Rong. “We used condoms, okay!”
Ji Rong said seriously, “Condom isn’t 100% reliable. Let’s go get married right away!”
Jiang Yuan rubbed his eyes. Why did it seem like Ji Rong’s eyes were sparkling? He glared at Ji Rong and said calmly and rationally, “I think you’ve been scared stupid. This definitely isn’t pregnancy.
“Even if it were pregnancy, pheromone dependency syndrome wouldn’t show up until at least a month later. It’s probably because of gland development.”
After Jiang Yuan’s analysis, Ji Rong calmed down. Jiang Yuan’s reasoning made sense. He’d just gotten too excited earlier. When he heard “pheromone dependency syndrome,” his mind had already planned out marriage, having children, and even naming them, causing his brain to short-circuit.
Jiang Yuan glanced at Ji Rong. This guy must be tormented by all this, probably thinking about their situation every day.
He needed to find a chance to properly explain things to Ji Rong again, to spare him from all this worry.
…
“Hmm…” The female doctor in the white coat frowned, staring for a moment before saying, “It’s nothing serious, just regular pheromone dependency syndrome.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the strikingly handsome man beside her anxiously asked, “What exactly caused it? Is it pregnancy?”
The doctor glanced at the man, her initial amazement at his looks instantly forgotten. “My facilities here are limited. For the specific cause, you’ll need to go to a hospital for more detailed examinations. However, I’ve already checked with the machine, and he’s not pregnant.
“Actually, there are many possible causes for pheromone dependency syndrome. From what you’ve told me, it’s likely related to gland development.”
It matched his own guess. Jiang Yuan sighed in relief and asked, “How long might this dependency last?”
The doctor replied, “I don’t expect it to last too long, maximum two to three months, mainly depending on the trigger.
“If you want to know the specific cause, you can get an examination at North Mali’s hospital when the spaceship arrives there tomorrow. Usually, results come back within an hour.”
Jiang Yuan nodded, “Okay, thank you, doctor. I’ll do that.”
After Jiang Yuan spoke, the doctor added a warning, “Remember, don’t wander around in North Mali. Stay within North Rio, don’t cross the boundary line.”
Jiang Yuan knew the doctor meant well.
North Mali was different from other interstellar nations. It had only joined the Interstellar Alliance after being discovered by other interstellar nations.
After joining, North Mali heavily imported advanced mechanical technology from various interstellar nations, leading to widespread unemployment and hardship among ordinary citizens.
North Mali possessed the most advantageous jump point wormhole, whose special location and proximity to other nations made it a crucial hub for interstellar travel.
Despite the considerable annual income from the jump point, which should have translated to excellent social welfare, the reality was quite the opposite.
North Mali was roughly divided into two distinct regions: North Rio and the slums.
While North Rio maintained good public security, the slums were extremely chaotic, filled with garbage discarded from the wealthy districts, along with poverty and hunger.
Additionally, North Mali was plagued by pirates who frequently raided passing merchant ships. Despite numerous attempts by various nations to capture them, all efforts ended in failure.
The North Mali government lacked the capability to apprehend them, and even when other nations helped, these pirates seemed to know their movements in advance. The pirates always seemed to vanish without a trace.
Of course, the North Mali pirates’ continued existence was partly due to other nations not being fully committed to eliminating them.
Compared to pirates elsewhere, North Mali pirates operated on strict principles. They robbed but never killed.
They were known as the Gentlemen Pirates, pirates with class.
Naturally, Jiang Yuan wouldn’t be bored enough to venture into the slums outside North Rio. After searching the map, he found a hospital not far from the spaceport and decided to go straight there for examination after landing.
The doctor from Hoyt had also advised him to get a full examination after his first heat.
…
The deep vastness of space stretched before them as the Princess of the Night sped through it.
The captain of the Princess of the Night let out an imperceptible sigh as he caught sight of the now-visible outline of planet North Mali.
From space, one part of North Mali was dotted with lights, a blue-green tapestry visible even from afar. The rest was shrouded in darkness.
The captain of the Princess of the Night shook his head at the stark contrast.
As someone who frequently traveled between Hoyt and Fashilan, North Mali was a regular stop for him. This nation thrived due to its jump point. Everyone only saw the prosperity within North Rio.
He had also been warned not to venture into the slum areas outside North Rio. But after so many years of travel, two years ago, he couldn’t resist his curiosity. Although he went just once, the impact was beyond words.
The middle-aged captain’s lips twitched as he pulled himself from his memories, forcing himself not to think about what he had seen.
His eyes grew heavier with melancholy. Taking a deep breath, he ordered the ship’s system to start broadcasting.
“Dear passengers, the Princess of the Night will arrive at North Mali’s jump point in five minutes. We will rest here for half a day. You may choose to stay aboard or visit North Rio to enjoy North Mali’s local cuisine. For your safety, please do not enter the slum areas.”
