JR Chapter 25

"Her sin"

After chatting with Jiang Yuanmu that night, Mo Lin did not feel anxious before going to bed. She just felt that she should be more motivated to work tomorrow.

Because no matter what decision Jiang Yuanmu made in the end, whether she was going to pay Jiang Yuanmu , she needed money, and raising children in the future would only require more and more money.

She spent the entire night dreaming about designing, but what Mo Lin didn’t expect was to see a very exhausted Cheng Lulu the next morning after an all-nighter.

“I think I messed up,” Cheng Lulu told Mo Lin.

“What happened?” Mo Lin asked, “You didn’t go home last night?”

Cheng Lulu sighed and opened her account, showing Mo Lin the comments.

There were many comments, some were just meaningless insults, while others seemed to be well-reasoned and lengthy. Mo Lin patiently read through a few and finally understood that it was He Ye’s fans who were attacking Cheng Lulu.

“Everyone, beware! This streamer maliciously injured someone, broke their leg, and then kept showing up in their live stream to gain attention. After stealing the big streamer’s fans, she turned around and started selling her own products.”

“Some people still have broken legs, while others are profiting off their misfortune.”

“Can a store run by someone like this really sell jewelry that will bring lasting love? I don’t believe it. Even if it’s free, I’d only consider taking the most expensive one.”

“To the person wanting the most expensive one, remember, cheap people sell cheap goods. There is nothing expensive, only the cheapest.”

These comments made Mo Lin’s brows furrow, feeling as if she had been slapped in the face. She was filled with humiliation and anger.

She wanted to help Cheng Lulu fight back, but she had never encountered such unreasonable insults in her life. Her mind kept repeating one sentence:

“How can you say that?”

But such a sentence seemed weak and ridiculous among all the vicious comments.

Feeling speechless for a long time, Mo Lin looked at Cheng Lulu, “Lulu, you…”

“I’m sorry…” Cheng Lulu’s eyes were red, “I think I messed up, but it’s not like they say. I did gain followers from He Ye’s live stream, but it was only a thousand, just enough to start my own stream, and I never went back. I even gave out red envelopes as rewards in his stream. You know my relationship with He Ye, we made it clear. I paid him, and he helped me promote… we agreed on everything.”

“Lulu.” Mo Lin took a tissue, squatted down, and gently wiped Cheng Lulu’s tears, “I believe you.”

At that moment, it seemed Mo Lin didn’t just catch Cheng Lulu’s tears but opened the floodgates.

Her grievances turned into more tears, soaking all the tissues in Mo Lin’s hand:

“I did push He Ye, and he hit an electric bike and hurt his leg. That was my fault. I took him to the hospital, covered the medical expenses, apologized, and stayed with him in the hospital. You know that…”

“I know.”

“But I can’t take care of him forever. I’ve done my best to stay with him for a long time, and I even found a caregiver at the hospital for him. The extra money I spent… I didn’t abandon him.”

Mo Lin watched Cheng Lulu sadly, just looking at her until her grievances and sadness were washed away by her tears, until her emotions gradually calmed down. Only then did Mo Lin speak:

“Let’s write an announcement, explaining the whole story. What about He Ye? I can contact him too, so he can join us in issuing a joint statement.”

“I contacted him last night.” After crying, Cheng Lulu was still sniffling, “He said some of his previous fans were deliberately stirring things up, and he had already hired a lawyer to write a statement.”

Mo Lin nodded, thought for a moment, and insisted, “We still need to speak up and write out the whole story. We can’t let others dictate the truth.”

Cheng Lulu shook her head, “No one will believe it.”

She sniffled and scrolled down to more comments with trembling hands.

Mo Lin saw that from 1 AM to 8 AM, Cheng Lulu had replied to every single comment.

She argued back against the insults and refuted the slanders. She wrote and explained the story countless times.

One comment had 200 replies, with half of them being Cheng Lulu’s counter-arguments.

And this was just one of many comments. Her replies were countless, measured only by time.

She had been arguing for seven hours.

Then she had a breakdown.

Because no matter what she commented or replied, the responses were more crazy accusations and insults.

From 8 AM until now, two hours had passed. During these two hours, she didn’t reply anymore and didn’t sleep, just sat there, lost in thought.

Mo Lin looked at her tear-stained eyes and exhausted expression, patting her arm sympathetically.

Cheng Lulu’s mind was so quick and active that two hours were enough for her thoughts to wander far and wide.

Cheng Lulu’s phone buzzed with a message. Mo Lin accidentally saw it was a text from He Ye: “The statement has been issued. Don’t worry, things will calm down soon.”

Mo Lin handed the phone back to Cheng Lulu. Cheng Lulu opened the message and started reading the attached statement seriously. Mo Lin didn’t disturb her and began tidying up around the table, intending to persuade Cheng Lulu to take a nap.

But as she turned around, she suddenly saw someone standing outside the store.

It was He Ye, leaning on a crutch, holding his phone, standing there with concern, watching Cheng Lulu, but not daring to come in.

Mo Lin was momentarily stunned and then reminded Cheng Lulu, “Lulu.”

Cheng Lulu looked up, her gaze falling on the person outside the store. Their eyes met, and He Ye looked as if he had been punched, his first reaction was to lower his head.

After a while, he seemed to make up his mind, walked to the door, opened it, but didn’t dare to come in.

“Lulu.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I… wanted to see you.”

A familiar phrase, Mo Lin inexplicably thought of Jiang Yuanmu from yesterday.

But today’s He Ye and yesterday’s Jiang Yuanmu were in completely different situations.

He cautiously asked Cheng Lulu, “Can I see you?”

“If I say no, will you leave?” Cheng Lulu replied stiffly.

He Ye stood at the door for a moment, then lowered his head and really started to leave, leaning on his crutch.

Cheng Lulu thought for a moment, “Wait.”

He Ye turned back to look at her, a hint of hope in his eyes.

“Who are those fans of yours? Why did they suddenly start spreading rumors?”

He Ye fell silent. After thinking for a while, he seemed to make a decision. He looked at Cheng Lulu with determination, “There aren’t many, just one—my ex-girlfriend.”

The store fell silent.

Mo Lin suddenly felt a sense of awkwardness.

After a while, Cheng Lulu moved like lightning, stepping up to He Ye and giving him a loud slap.

He Ye’s face immediately turned red and swollen. He lowered his head, saying nothing.

Cheng Lulu, with red eyes, glared at him, “Why should I suffer because of your past relationships?”

“I’m sorry…”

Cheng Lulu ignored him, grabbed her bag from the sofa, and left the store, “I streamed enough yesterday, no streaming today. I’m leaving.”

Mo Lin didn’t intervene, watching Cheng Lulu walk away and then seeing He Ye hobble after her on his crutch. She sighed, reflecting on how complicated and entangled love always seemed to be.

She sat down, opened her computer, and planned to finish her previous designs. She thought things would calm down as He Ye said, with the statement revealing the truth. But she never expected the fire to grow even bigger…

“Jewelry store owner maliciously injures someone to boost sales.” This incident, along with He Ye’s statement, turned into “Famous game streamer’s ex-girlfriend maliciously slanders out of jealousy.”

People came to watch the drama, and someone casually posted a video: “I know this store, there was a fight there a few days ago.”

The video showed Mo Lin’s argument with Zhang Yuhua.

Zhang Yuhua’s heart-wrenching cries were very clear in the video: “No matter what, I’m still your mother! How can you treat me like this!” The “mother’s” cries were heartbreaking. Her simple clothing, her face and hands worn by life’s hardships, tugged at the viewers’ consciences.

Thus, “kindness” arrived as expected, and so did “judgment.”

The situation reversed once again.

The flood of traffic came pouring in, but the headlines were no longer “Wearing jewelry from this store will bring you a beautiful relationship.”

Instead, they said, “The female owner of this jewelry store abandoned her biological mother.”

And the emotions stirred by this headline far exceeded all previous ones.

Without any change on her part, Mo Lin became a “criminal” on the internet, condemned by everyone.

She was cold, inhumane, and had committed an unforgivable sin. Some even said she deserved to die.
