MTY chapter 12

When Rivals Meet

When Lin Yu woke up the next morning, the sun was bright, the air conditioner was set to 27 degrees, and a thick blanket covered him.

Fragments of last night’s memory lingered in his mind, intermittent but still clear.

He lifted the blanket and saw the empty packaging of the suppressant on the bedside table, habitually reaching inside for a tube.

The box was empty, and he remembered it was the eighth day—his heat period had ended.

His heat period was quite regular, usually lasting about seven days. By the seventh day, it would already start to wane, and by the eighth day, he barely felt anything. So, he typically bought a box with seven tubes of suppressants, enough for the whole cycle.

He liked organizing every aspect of his life as meticulously as a set meal, considering all possible scenarios in advance. This helped avoid unexpected situations.

Unexpected situations caused trouble, and he disliked trouble.

He got up and went downstairs and saw Lu Ziqing drinking porridge at the dining table: “Morning.”

Lu Ziqing looked up, “Didn’t sleep well. My head’s killing me. Didn’t feel like making breakfast, so I ordered takeout. Sit.”

Lin Yu sat down. “Thank you for last night.”

“No need,” Lu Ziqing snorted, “Had I known you weren’t drunk at all, I wouldn’t have bothered to find you.”

Lin Yu: “Last night, I didn’t expect my phone to run out of battery… Did you look for me for a long time?”

Lu Ziqing didn’t want to admit it.

Lin Yu didn’t seem to need him at all and hadn’t planned to inform him in advance. Yet, he had run around all night, anxiously trying to find him. Not even a simp would go this far.

And he wasn’t a simp.

He was just a warm-hearted and kind-hearted good citizen.

Lu Ziqing acted nonchalant: “No, not at all. When you didn’t answer your phone, I didn’t have much to do anyway, so I just happened to take a walk. It was purely by chance that I ran into you.”

Lin Yu: “When you kicked the door open last night, you seemed to use quite a bit of force.”

Lu Ziqing: “…”

Lin Yu: “You were sweating, and the veins on your forehead were bulging.”

Lu Ziqing: “…”

Lin Yu: “I’ve never seen someone ‘taking a walk’ right into a private room at a bar before.”

Lu Ziqing: “…Shut your mouth and eat your breakfast.”

“Oh,” Lin Yu took a few bites, then said earnestly, “Anyway, thank you. When you get married to someone you truly love, you will definitely make a wonderful husband.”

Lu Ziqing: “…You really talk too much.”

Lin Yu closed his mouth and focused on eating breakfast: “Sorry.”

That day was Saturday, no need to go to work, so there was actually no need to get up this early.

However, Lin Yu often handled work even on weekends. He was used to getting up early and couldn’t really sleep in.

Lu Ziqing on the other hand, had an appointment to play tennis with Xu Yunye. He was putting on his shoes at the entrance when he heard a thud from the study.

Lu Ziqing: “What happened?”

A muffled voice came from the study: “Nothing… Just knocked over a water cup.”

Lu Ziqing glanced at his watch but still took off his shoes and walked back in. He saw Lin Yu holding a cloth, squatting on the floor, wiping up water, with glass shards scattered everywhere.

Lu Ziqing frowned and fetched a broom to sweep up the glass: “What’s going on?”

Lin Yu didn’t seem right.

His face was flushed, his steps unsteady, and his hand clung to the edge of the desk as if he might collapse at any moment.

Lin Yu: “I don’t know… My heat period should have ended, but…”

Before he finished, Lu Ziqing understood.

Because he could already smell the faint scent of fir in the study.

It was emanating from Lin Yu, not too strong yet, but with a rapidly intensifying undertone, like a tidal wave surging forward.

Lu Ziqing decisively said: “Stop cleaning, we’re going to the hospital.”

….

Lu Ziqing played three rounds of a mobile game at the door before Lin Yu finally came out.

His face was still a bit red, but after an emergency injection of suppressants, he looked much more stable.

Lu Ziqing: “What did the doctor say?”

Lin Yu: “Too much work pressure, irregular lifestyle, hormonal imbalance, leading to fluctuations in the heat period… They prescribed some medicine and told me to get more rest.”

Lu Ziqing clicked his tongue: “I told you not to work so hard.”

Lin Yu: “I think it’s okay…”

He spoke while still fiddling with his phone, ready to dive back into work.

Lu Ziqing snatched the phone, slipping it into his own pocket: “Go home and rest properly. If I catch you on your phone again, I’ll throw it down the drain.”

As they walked toward the elevator, a petite, wheat-skinned elderly woman looked around hesitantly. Seemingly out of options, she stopped Lin Yu and whispered: “Young man… Do you know where I can go for a dental check-up?”

Lin Yu let out an “ah” and earnestly guided her: “Go down this corridor, turn right at the front, and you’ll see the sign for the dental department.”

The elderly woman nervously rubbed her clothes: “I can’t read… My tooth has hurt for a month. My son was supposed to come with me today, but something came up, and I had to come alone…”

Lin Yu didn’t hesitate much: “No problem, I’ll take you there.”

The elderly woman: “Thank you, thank you!”

Lin Yu turned to Lu Ziqing: “You go get the car first, I’ll be right there.”

Lu Ziqing: “I’ll come with you.”

Lin Yu waved his hand: “No need, you go to the parking lot. It’s rush hour right now; the road will get blocked soon.”

The elderly woman moved slowly, her back hunched. Lin Yu patiently supported her, guiding her along.

As they approached the dental department sign, Lin Yu suddenly remembered something.

This hospital… was where Dr. Xie Shaoyang worked.

City First People’s Hospital, Dental Department, Dr. Xie.

Earlier, during his pheromone flare-up, he hadn’t been thinking straight. Lu Ziqing had probably chosen this hospital because it was the closest to home.

Lin Yu stopped and said to the elderly woman: “From here, go straight in, and the dental department is right inside.”

The elderly woman was deeply grateful: “Ah, thank you, thank you!”

Lin Yu turned to leave, only to see a tall, handsome male doctor approaching from the opposite direction. Who else could it be but Dr. Xie?

Lin Yu couldn’t believe his luck; of all times, he had to run into him now.

He held his breath.

Dr. Xie’s gaze landed on him, paused for a moment, and then coldly brushed past his shoulder.

Lin Yu let out a sigh of relief, though his expression dimmed.

He pressed his lips together, forcing himself not to dwell on it, and moved toward the elevator.

Just as the elevator doors were closing, a slender hand shot in, forcing them back open.

Dr. Xie looked down at him: “Since you came all the way here, what’s the meaning of trying to leave without saying a word?”

Lin Yu stared at him: “Huh?”

“Don’t play dumb,” Dr. Xie sneered. “You specifically came to the hospital just to find me, didn’t you?”

Lin Yu: “I didn’t…”

Dr. Xie: “I’ll give you three seconds. If you want to apologize, you still have time.”

Lin Yu: “I…”

Dr. Xie: “If you want to reconcile, now’s your chance too.”

Lin Yu: “…”

To avoid blocking the elevator, Lin Yu stepped out.

Dr. Xie continued to press aggressively, “Go on, I’m giving you a chance now. You can say whatever you want.”

He subtly released a bit of his pheromones—a rich and intense musk scent that almost no omega could resist.

Lin Yu opened his mouth but hadn’t had time to speak when the elevator behind him chimed open.

Lu Ziqing stepped out of the elevator, and the moment he caught the scent of pheromones, he immediately pulled Lin Yu behind him.

Then, he saw the name tag on the man’s chest.

Oh.

So, it’s you, kid.

Dr. Xie frowned at him, “Who are you?”

“As you can see,” Lu Ziqing said, “Your dad’s here.”
